Abstract:
Very recently, the Belle~II Collaboration presented a measurement for the decays $B^+\to\bar{D}^{(*)0} K^+\bar{K}^0$ and $B^0\to D^{(*)-}K^+\bar{K}^0$, the bulk of observed $m(K^+ K_S^0)$ distributions showing low-mass structures in all four channels. In this work, we study the contributions of $ρ(770,1450)^+$, $a_2(1320)^+$ and $a_0(980,1450)^+$ resonances to these decay processes. The intermediate states $ρ(770,1450)^+$ are found to dominate the low-mass distribution of kaon pairs roughly contributing to half of the total branching fraction in each of the four decay channels. The contribution of the tensor $a_2(1320)^+$ meson is found to be negligible. Near the threshold of the kaon pair, the state $a_0(980)^+$ turns out to be much less important than expected, not being able to account for the enhancement of events in that energy region observed in the $B^+\to\bar{D}^{(*)0} K^+\bar{K}^0$ decays. Further studies both from the theoretical and experimental sides are needed to elucidate the role of the non-resonant contributions governing the formation of $K^+\bar{K}^0$ pairs near their threshold in these decay processes.

This paper presents a comprehensive review of both the theory and experimental successes of Quantum Chromodynamics, starting with its emergence as a well defined theory in 1972-73 and following developments and results up to the present day. Topics include a review of the earliest theoretical and experimental foundations; the fundamental constants of QCD; an introductory discussion of lattice QCD, the only known method for obtaining exact predictions from QCD; methods for approximating QCD, with special focus on effective field theories; QCD under extreme conditions; measurements and predictions of meson and baryon states; a special discussion of the structure of the nucleon; techniques for study of QCD at high energy, including treatment of jets and showers; measurements at colliders; weak decays and quark mixing; and a section on the future, which discusses new experimental facilities or upgrades currently funded. The paper is intended to provide a broad background for Ph.D. students and postdocs starting their career. Some contributions include personal accounts of how the ideas or experiments were developed.

This document provides a comprehensive summary of the state-of-the-art, challenges, and prospects in the experimental and theoretical study of the strong coupling $α_s$. The current status of the seven methods presently used to determine $α_s$ based on: (i) lattice QCD, (ii) hadronic $τ$ decays, (iii) deep-inelastic scattering and parton distribution functions fits, (iv) electroweak boson decays, hadronic final-states in (v) e+e-, (vi) e-p, and (vii) p-p collisions, and (viii) quarkonia decays and masses, are reviewed. Novel $α_s$ determinations are discussed, as well as the averaging method used to obtain the PDG world-average value at the reference Z boson mass scale, $α_s(m^2_Z)$. Each of the extraction methods proposed provides a "wish list" of experimental and theoretical developments required in order to achieve an ideal permille precision on $α_s(m^2_Z)$ within the next 10 years.

Abstract:
We present a lattice determination of the $Λ$ parameter in three-flavor QCD and the strong coupling at the Z pole mass. Computing the nonperturbative running of the coupling in the range from $0.2\,$GeV to $70\,$GeV, and using experimental input values for the masses and decay constants of the pion and the kaon, we obtain $Λ_{\overline{\rm MS}}^{(3)}=341(12)\,$MeV. The nonperturbative running up to very high energies guarantees that systematic effects associated with perturbation theory are well under control. Using the four-loop prediction for $Λ_{\overline{\rm MS}}^{(5)}/Λ_{\overline{\rm MS}}^{(3)}$ yields $α^{(5)}_{\overline{\rm MS}}(m_{\rm Z}) = 0.11852(84)$.

We report the final results of the Phase II SIMPLE measurements, comprising two run stages of 15 superheated droplet detectors each, the second stage including an improved neutron shielding. The analyses includes a refined signal analysis, and revised nucleation efficiency based on reanalysis of previously-reported monochromatic neutron irradiations. The combined results yield a contour minimum of σ_{p} = 4.2 x 10^-3 pb at 35 GeV/c^2 on the spin-dependent sector of WIMP-proton interactions, the most restrictive to date from a direct search experiment and overlap** for the first time results previously obtained only indirectly. In the spin-independent sector, a minimum of 3.6 x 10^-6 pb at 35 GeV/c^2 is achieved, with the exclusion contour challenging the recent CoGeNT region of current interest.

The properties of open charm mesons, $D$, $\bar D$, $D_s$ and $\bar D_s$ in nuclear matter at finite temperature are studied within a self-consistent coupled-channel approach. The interaction of the low lying pseudoscalar mesons with the ground state baryons in the charm sector is derived from a $t$-channel vector-exchange model. The in-medium scattering amplitudes are obtained by solving the Lippmann-Schwinger equation at finite temperature including Pauli blocking effects, as well as $D$, $\bar D$, $D_s$ and $\bar D_s$ self-energies taking their mutual influence into account. We find that the in-medium properties of the $D$ meson are affected by the $D_s$-meson self-energy through the intermediate $D_s Y$ loops coupled to $DN$ states. Similarly, dressing the $\bar{D}$ meson in the $\bar{D}Y$ loops has an influence over the properties of the $\bar{D}_s$ meson.

Abstract:
Charmed mesons in dense matter are studied within a unitary coupled-channel approach which takes into account Pauli-blocking effects and meson self-energies in a self-consistent manner. We obtain the open-charm meson spectral functions in this dense medium, and discuss their implications on hidden charm and charm scalar resonances and on the formation of D-mesic nuclei.

The SU(3) breaking produces the splitting of the two octets, resulting in the case of strangeness S=-1 in two poles of the scattering matrix close to the nominal Λ(1405) resonance. These poles are combinations of the singlet state and the octets. We show how actual experiments see just one effective resonance shape, but with properties which change from one reaction to another.
