A simulation workflow is under development to interface particle data transfer and matching of geometry between the electromagnetic (EM) cavity simulation code ACE3P and radiation code Geant4. The target is to simulate dark current (DC) radiation effects for the KEK 56-cell S-band accelerating structure using ACE3P and Geant4, and benchmark against KEK experiment data. As a first step, ACE3P DC simulations using a 7-cell structure have been performed by first calculating the operating mode in the structure and then tracking field-emitted electrons under the influence of the EM fields of the mode. The ACE3P simulation results agree well with the EM software CST for an accelerating gradient of 21.8 MV/m. The reader/writer I/O in ACE3P and the transfer of particle data from Track3P to Geant4 for DC radiation effects studies have been implemented. The simulation workflow between the two codes will be demonstrated with the goal of performing large-scale simulations for the KEK 56-cell structure. In addition to modeling DC effects in linacs, the integrated simulation workflow will be applicable to studying positron source and capture structure for future lepton colliders.

As part of the Snowmass'21 community planning excercise, the Advanced Accelerator Concepts (AAC) community proposed future linear colliders with center-of-mass energies up to 15 TeV and luminosities up to 50$\times10^{34}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$ in a compact footprint. In addition to being compact, these machines must also be energy efficient. We identify two challenges that must be addressed in the design of these machines. First, the Beam Delivery System (BDS) must not add significant length to the accelerator complex. Second, beam parameters must be chosen to mitigate beamstrahlung effects and maximize the luminosity-per-power of the machine. In this paper, we review advances in plasma lens technology that will help to reduce the length of the BDS system and we detail new Particle-in-Cell simulation studies that will provide insight into beamstrahlung mitigation techniques. We apply our analysis to both $e^+e^-$ and $γγ$ colliders.

The specific activity of the beta decay of $^{39}$Ar in atmospheric argon is measured using the DEAP-3600 detector. DEAP-3600, located 2 km underground at SNOLAB, uses a total of (3269 $\pm$ 24) kg of liquid argon distilled from the atmosphere to search for dark matter. This detector with very low background uses pulseshape discrimination to differentiate between nuclear recoils and electron recoils and is well-suited to measure the decay of $^{39}$Ar. With 167 live-days of data, the measured specific activity at the time of atmospheric extraction is [0.964 $\pm$ 0.001 (stat) $\pm$ 0.024 (sys)] Bq/kg$_{\rm atmAr}$ which is consistent with results from other experiments. A cross-check analysis using different event selection criteria provides a consistent result.

We report the first detection of a TeV gamma-ray flux from the solar disk (6.3$σ$), based on 6.1 years of data from the High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) observatory. The 0.5--2.6 TeV spectrum is well fit by a power law, dN/dE = $A (E/1 \text{ TeV})^{-γ}$, with $A = (1.6 \pm 0.3) \times 10^{-12}$ TeV$^{-1}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ and $γ= -3.62 \pm 0.14$. The flux shows a strong indication of anticorrelation with solar activity. These results extend the bright, hard GeV emission from the disk observed with Fermi-LAT, seemingly due to hadronic Galactic cosmic rays showering on nuclei in the solar atmosphere. However, current theoretical models are unable to explain the details of how solar magnetic fields shape these interactions. HAWC's TeV detection thus deepens the mysteries of the solar-disk emission.

C$^3$ is based on a fundamentally new approach to normal conducting linear accelerators that achieves both high gradient and high efficiency at relatively low cost. Given the advanced state of linear collider designs, the key system that requires technical maturation for C$^3$ is the main linac. This white paper presents the staged approach towards a facility to demonstrate C$^3$ technology with both Direct (source and main linac) and Parallel (beam delivery, dam** ring, ancillary component) R&D. The white paper also includes discussion on the approach for technology industrialization, related HEP R&D activities that are enabled by C$^3$ R&D, infrastructure requirements and siting options.

In the Standard Model (SM) charmless hadronic decays $B_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η$ proceed via tree-level $b\to u$ and penguin $b\to s$ transitions. Penguin transitions are sensitive to Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics scenarios and could affect the branching fractions and {\it CP} asymmetries in such decays. Once branching fractions for two-body decays $B_s \to ηη, ηη^{\prime}, η^{\prime}η^{\prime} $ are measured, and the theoretical uncertainties are reduced, it would be possible to extract {\it CP} violating parameters from the data using the formalism based on SU(3)/U(3) symmetry. To achieve this goal, at least four of these six branching fractions need to be measured. Only the branching fraction for $B_s^0 \to η^{\prime}η^{\prime}$ has been measured so far.

The enhancement of charged-particle pairs with large pseudorapidity difference and small azimuthal angle difference, often referred to as the ``ridge signal'', is a phenomenon widely observed in high multiplicity proton-proton, proton-ion and deutron-ion collisions, which is not yet fully understood. In heavy-ion collisions, the hydrodynamic expansion of the Quark-Gluon Plasma is one of the possible explanations of the origin of the ridge signal. Measurements in the $e^+e^-$ collision system, without the complexities introduced by hadron structure in the initial state, can serve as a complementary probe to examine the formation of a ridge signal. The first measurement of two-particle angular correlation functions in high multiplicity $e^+e^-$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=10.52$ GeV is reported. The hadronic $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected by the Belle detector at KEKB are used in this study. Two-particle angular correlation functions are measured over the full azimuth and large pseudorapidity intervals which are defined by either the electron beam axis or the event thrust as a function of charged particle multiplicity. The measurement in the event thrust analysis, with mostly outgoing quark pairs determining the reference axis, is sensitive to the region of additional soft gluon emissions. No significant ridge signal is observed with either coordinates analyses. Near side jet correlations appear to be absent in the thrust axis analysis. The measurements are compared to predictions from various event generators and expected to provide new constraints to the phenomenological models in the low energy regime.

If dark matter forms a "spike" due to the growth of the massive black hole, it will induce a gravitational drag on the inspiraling object, changing its orbit and gravitational-wave signal. We show that detection of even a single dark matter spike from the EMRIs will severely constrain several popular dark matter candidates, such as ultralight bosons, keV fermions, MeV--TeV self-annihilating dark matter, and sub-solar mass primordial black holes, as these candidates would flatten the spikes through various mechanisms. Future space gravitational wave experiments could thus have a significant impact on the particle identification of dark matter.

The results are based on a data sample containing $772\times10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events recorded at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. The analysis utilizes a method where the tag-side $B$ meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode, and the signal-side $τ$ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The measured values are $\mathcal{R}(D)= 0.307 \pm 0.037 \pm 0.016$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast})= 0.283 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.014$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions within $0.2$ and $1.1$ standard deviations, respectively, while their combination agrees with the Standard Model predictions within $1.2$ standard deviations.

Our result, $F_L^{D^\ast} = 0.60 \pm 0.08 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.04 ({\rm sys})$, where $F_L^{D^\ast}$ denotes the $D^{\ast-}$ meson longitudinal polarization fraction, agrees within about $1.7$ standard deviations of the standard model prediction.

The detector consists of 3279 kg of LAr contained in a spherical acrylic vessel. This paper reports on the analysis of a 758 tonne\cdot day exposure taken over a period of 231 live-days during the first year of operation. No candidate signal events are observed in the WIMP-search region of interest, which results in the leading limit on the WIMP-nucleon spin-independent cross section on a LAr target of $3.9\times10^{-45}$ cm$^{2}$ ($1.5\times10^{-44}$ cm$^{2}$) for a 100 GeV/c$^{2}$ (1 TeV/c$^{2}$) WIMP mass at 90\% C. L. In addition to a detailed background model, this analysis demonstrates the best pulse-shape discrimination in LAr at threshold, employs a Bayesian photoelectron-counting technique to improve the energy resolution and discrimination efficiency, and utilizes two position reconstruction algorithms based on PMT charge and photon arrival times.

The measured values of the Michel parameters are $\barη = -1.3 \pm 1.5 \pm 0.8$ and $ξκ= 0.5 \pm 0.4 \pm 0.2$, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. This is the first measurement of these parameters. These results are consistent with the Standard Model predictions within their uncertainties and constrain the coupling constants of the generalized weak interaction.

The experiment was performed 2 km underground at SNOLAB (Sudbury, Canada) utilizing a large target mass, with the LAr target contained in a spherical acrylic vessel of 3600 kg capacity. The LAr is viewed by an array of PMTs, which would register scintillation light produced by rare nuclear recoil signals induced by dark matter particle scattering. An analysis of 4.44 live days (fiducial exposure of 9.87 tonne-days) of data taken with the nearly full detector during the initial filling phase demonstrates the detector performance and the best electronic recoil rejection using pulse-shape discrimination in argon, with leakage $<1.2\times 10^{-7}$ (90% C.L.) between 16 and 33 keV$_{ee}$. No candidate signal events are observed, which results in the leading limit on WIMP-nucleon spin-independent cross section on argon, $<1.2\times 10^{-44}$ cm$^2$ for a 100 GeV/c$^2$ WIMP mass (90% C.L.).

As is well known, dark matter direct detection experiments will ultimately be limited by a "neutrino floor," due to the scattering of nuclei by MeV neutrinos from, e.g., nuclear fusion in the Sun. Here we point out the existence of a new "neutrino floor" that will similarly limit indirect detection with the Sun, due to high-energy neutrinos from cosmic-ray interactions with the solar atmosphere. We have two key findings. First, solar atmospheric neutrinos $\lesssim 1$ TeV cause a sensitivity floor for standard WIMP scenarios, for which higher-energy neutrinos are absorbed in the Sun. This floor will be reached once the present sensitivity is improved by just one order of magnitude. Second, for neutrinos $\gtrsim 1$ TeV, which can be isolated by muon energy loss rate, solar atmospheric neutrinos should soon be detectable in IceCube. Discovery will help probe the complicated effects of solar magnetic fields on cosmic rays. These events will be backgrounds to WIMP scenarios with long-lived mediators, for which higher-energy neutrinos can escape from the Sun.

Dark matter capture and annihilation in the Sun can produce detectable high-energy neutrinos, providing a probe of the dark matter-proton scattering cross section. We consider the case when annihilation proceeds via long-lived dark mediators, which allows gamma rays to escape the Sun and reduces the attenuation of neutrinos. For gamma rays, there are exciting new opportunities, due to detailed measurements of GeV solar gamma rays with Fermi, and unprecedented sensitivities in the TeV range with HAWC and LHAASO. For neutrinos, the enhanced flux, particularly at higher energies ($\sim$TeV), allows a more sensitive dark matter search with IceCube and KM3NeT. We show that these search channels can be extremely powerful, potentially improving sensitivity to the dark matter spin-dependent scattering cross section by several orders of magnitude relative to present searches for high-energy solar neutrinos, as well as direct detection experiments.

The precise determination of the CKM matrix element $\left| V_{cb}\right|$ is important for carrying out tests of the flavour sector of the Standard Model. In this article we present a preliminary analysis of the $\bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell$ decay mode and its charge conjugate, selected in events that contain a fully reconstructed $B$-meson, using 772 million $e^+ \, e^- \to Υ(4S) \to B \bar B$ events recorded by the Belle detector at KEKB. Unfolded differential decay rates of four kinematic variables fully describing the $\bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell$ decay in the $B$-meson rest frame are presented. We measure the total branching fraction $\mathcal{B}( \bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell ) = \left(4.95 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.22 \right) \times 10^{-2}$, where the errors are statistical and systematic respectively. The value of $\left|V_{cb} \right|$ is determined to be $\left( 37.4 \pm 1.3 \right) \times 10^{-3}$. Both results are in good agreement with current world averages.

We report the first observation of the polarization of $Λ/\barΛ$ hyperons transverse to its production plane in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. We observe a significant polarization that rises with the fractional energy carried by the hyperon as well as its transverse momentum. To define the production plane, we use the direction of the hyperon momentum together with either the thrust axis in the event or the momentum vector of a hadron in the opposite hemisphere. Furthermore, we investigate the contributions to the hyperon polarization from the feed-down from $Σ^0/\barΣ^0$ and $Λ_c^{\pm}$ decays. This measurement uses a dataset of 800.4fb$^{-1}$ collected by the Belle experiment at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV.

Indirect detection of dark matter is a major avenue for discovery. However, baryonic backgrounds are diverse enough to mimic many possible signatures of dark matter. In this work, we study the newly proposed technique of dark matter velocity spectroscopy\,\cite{speckhard2016}. The non-rotating dark matter halo and the Solar motion produce a distinct longitudinal dependence of the signal which is opposite in direction to that produced by baryons. Using collisionless dark matter only simulations of Milky Way like halos, we show that this new signature is robust and holds great promise. We develop mock observations by high energy resolution X-ray spectrometer on a sounding rocket, the Micro-X experiment, to our test case, the 3.5 keV line. We show that by using six different pointings, Micro-X can exclude a constant line energy over various longitudes at $\geq$ 3$σ$. The halo triaxiality is an important effect and it will typically reduce the significance of this signal. We emphasize that this new {\it smoking gun in motion} signature of dark matter is general, and is applicable to any dark matter candidate which produces a sharp photon feature in annihilation or decay.

This latter uncertainty is dominated by the error of the normalisation channel. The result is consistent with Standard Model expectations and improves the uncertainty with respect to previous measurement of this quantity by more than a factor of three.

The large sample allows us to probe the total decay width of the χ_{b0}(1P). In the absence of a statistically significant result, a 90% confidence-level upper limit is set on the width at Γ_{total}< 2.4 MeV. Our results are based on 24.7 fb^{-1} of e+e- collision data recorded by the Belle detector at the Υ(2S) resonance, corresponding to (157.8\pm3.6)\times10^6 Υ(2S) decays.

This draft report summarizes and details the findings, results, and recommendations derived from the ASCR/HEP Exascale Requirements Review meeting held in June, 2015. The main conclusions are as follows. 1) Larger, more capable computing and data facilities are needed to support HEP science goals in all three frontiers: Energy, Intensity, and Cosmic. The expected scale of the demand at the 2025 timescale is at least two orders of magnitude -- and in some cases greater -- than that available currently. 2) The growth rate of data produced by simulations is overwhelming the current ability, of both facilities and researchers, to store and analyze it. Additional resources and new techniques for data analysis are urgently needed. 3) Data rates and volumes from HEP experimental facilities are also straining the ability to store and analyze large and complex data volumes. Appropriately configured leadership-class facilities can play a transformational role in enabling scientific discovery from these datasets. 4) A close integration of HPC simulation and data analysis will aid greatly in interpreting results from HEP experiments. Such an integration will minimize data movement and facilitate interdependent workflows. 5) Long-range planning between HEP and ASCR will be required to meet HEP's research needs. To best use ASCR HPC resources the experimental HEP program needs a) an established long-term plan for access to ASCR computational and data resources, b) an ability to map workflows onto HPC resources, c) the ability for ASCR facilities to accommodate workflows run by collaborations that can have thousands of individual members, d) to transition codes to the next-generation HPC platforms that will be available at ASCR facilities, e) to build up and train a workforce capable of develo** and using simulations and analysis to support HEP scientific research on next-generation systems.

Dark matter decays or annihilations that produce line-like spectra may be smoking-gun signals. However, even such distinctive signatures can be mimicked by astrophysical or instrumental causes. We show that velocity spectroscopy-the measurement of energy shifts induced by relative motion of source and observer-can separate these three causes with minimal theoretical uncertainties. The principal obstacle has been energy resolution, but upcoming experiments will reach the required 0.1% level. As an example, we show that the imminent Astro-H mission can use Milky Way observations to separate possible causes of the 3.5-keV line. We discuss other applications.

We present an extraction of azimuthal correlations between two pairs of charged pions detected in opposite jets from electron-positron annihilation. These correlations may arise from the dependence of the di-pion fragmentation on the polarization of the parent quark in the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow q \bar{q}$. Due to the correlation of the quark polarizations, the cross-section of di-pion pair production, in which the pion pairs are detected in opposite jets in a dijet event, exhibits a modulation in the azimuthal angles of the planes containing the hadron pairs with respect to the production plane. The measurement of this modulation allows access to combinations of fragmentation functions that are sensitive to the quark's transverse polarization and helicity. Within our uncertainties we do not observe a significant signal from the previously unmeasured helicity dependent fragmentation function $G_1^\perp$. This measurement uses a dataset of 938~fb$^{-1}$ collected by the Belle experiment at or near $\sqrt{s}\approx10.58$ GeV.

Using the full data sample of $772\times10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB accelerator the upper limit is $r_S < 0.87$ at the 68 % confidence level. This result is the first measurement of $r_S$ with a model-independent Dalitz analysis, and is consistent with results from other analyses. The value of $r_S$ indicates the sensitivity of the decay to $φ_3$ because the statistical uncertainty is proportional to $1/r_S$. The $r_S$ result is obtained from observables ($x_\pm$, $y_\pm$) \begin{eqnarray} x_- &=& +0.4 ^{+1.0 +0.0}_{-0.6 -0.1} \pm0.0 \\
y_- &=& -0.6 ^{+0.8 +0.1}_{-1.0 -0.0} \pm0.1
\\
x_+ &=& +0.1 ^{+0.7 +0.0}_{-0.4 -0.1} \pm0.1
\\
y_+ &=& +0.3 ^{+0.5 +0.0}_{-0.8 -0.1} \pm0.1
\\
, \end{eqnarray} where $x_\pm = r_S \cos(δ_S \pm φ_3)$, $y_\pm = r_S \sin(δ_S \pm φ_3)$ and $φ_3 (δ_S)$ are the weak (strong) phase difference between $B^0 \to D^0K^{*0}$ and $B^0 \to \bar{D^0}K^{*0}$. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic and the third is the systematic due to the uncertainties on $c_i$ and $s_i$ parameters measured by CLEO.

The DEAP-3600 experiment is located 2 km underground at SNOLAB, in Sudbury, Ontario. It is a single-phase detector that searches for dark matter particle interactions within a 1000-kg fiducial mass target of liquid argon. A first generation prototype detector (DEAP-1) with a 7-kg liquid argon target mass demonstrated a high level of pulse-shape discrimination (PSD) for reducing $β$/$γ$ backgrounds and helped to develop low radioactivity techniques to mitigate surface-related $α$ backgrounds. Construction of the DEAP-3600 detector is nearly complete and commissioning is starting in 2014. The target sensitivity to spin-independent scattering of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) on nucleons of 10$^{-46}$ cm$^2$ will allow one order of magnitude improvement in sensitivity over current searches at 100 GeV WIMP mass. This paper presents an overview and status of the DEAP-3600 project and discusses plans for a future multi-tonne experiment, DEAP-50T.

Abstract:
We report a measurement of the branching fraction of $B^+ \to τ^+ ν_τ$ decays using a data sample of $772 \times 10^6 B \bar{B}$ pairs, collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We reconstruct the accompanying $B$ meson in a semileptonic decay and detect the $B^+ \to τ^+ ν_τ$ candidate in the recoiling event. We obtain a branching fraction of ${\cal B}(B^+ \to τ^+ ν_τ) = [1.25 \pm 0.28 ({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.27({\rm syst.})] \times 10^{-4}$. This result is in good agreement with previous measurements and the expectation from calculations based on the Standard Model.

We search for doubly charmed baryons Xi_cc^+(+) with the Lambda_c^+K^-pi^+(pi^+) and Xi_c^0pi^+(pi^+) final states. No significant signal is observed. We also search for two excited charmed strange baryons, Xi_c(3055)^+ and Xi_c(3123)^+ with the Sigma_c^++(2455)K^- and Sigma_c^++(2520)K^- final states. The Xi_c(3055)^+ signal is observed with a significance of 6.6 standard deviations including systematic uncertainty, while no signature of the Xi_c(3123)^+ is seen. We also study properties of the Xi_c(2645)^+ and measure a width of 2.6 +- 0.2 (stat) +- 0.4 (syst) MeV/c^2, which is the first significant determination.

The results are obtained from the final data sample containing 772 x 10^(6) BBbar pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We obtain the branching fractions
B(B0 -> omega K0) = (4.5 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.3 (syst)) x 10^(-6),
B(B- -> omega K-) = (6.8 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.4 (syst)) x 10^(-6),
which are in agreement with their respective current world averages. For the CP violating parameters, we obtain
A(B0 -> omega KS) = -0.36 +/- 0.19 (stat) +/- 0.05 (syst),
S(B0 -> omega KS) = +0.91 +/- 0.32 (stat) +/- 0.05 (syst),
A(B- -> omega K-) = -0.03 +/- 0.04 (stat) +/- 0.01 syst),
where A and S represent the direct and mixing-induced CP asymmetry, respectively. We find no evidence of CP violation in the decay channel B-->omega K-; however, we obtain the first evidence of CP violation in the B0 -> omega KS decay channel at the level of 3.1 standard deviations.

We measure the direct CP asymmetry between the suppressed B^- and B^+ decays to be A_{DK} = 0.41 +/- 0.30 (stat.) +/- 0.05 (syst.). We also determine the $S$-wave contribution within the $φ(1020)$ mass region. The absolute branching fractions are $\mathcal{B}[B^0_s\to J/ψ\,φ(1020)]=(1.25 \pm 0.07\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.08\left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\pm 0.22\left(f_s\right))\times 10^{-3}$, $\mathcal{B}[B^0_s\to J/ψ\,f'_2(1525)]=(0.26\pm 0.06\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.02\left(\mathrm{syst}\right) \pm 0.05\left(f_s\right))\times 10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}[B^0_s\to J/ψ\,K^+K^-] = (1.01\pm 0.09\left(\mathrm{stat}\right) \pm 0.10\left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\pm 0.18\left(f_s\right))\times 10^{-3}$, where the last systematic error is due to the branching fraction of $b\bar{b}\to B^{(*)}_s B^{(*)}_s$. The branching fraction ratio is found to be $\mathcal{B}[B^0_s\to J/ψ\,f'_2(1525)]/\mathcal{B}[B^0_s\to J/ψ\,φ(1020)]=(21.5\pm 4.9\left(\mathrm{stat}\right) \pm2.6\left(\mathrm{syst}\right))%$.
