Measurement of $CP$ asymmetries in $B^0 \to K^0_S π^0 γ$ decays at Belle II

Abstract: We report measurements of time-dependent $CP$ asymmetries in $B^0 \to K^0_S π^0 γ$ decays based on a data sample of $(388\pm6)\times10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle II detector. The Belle II experiment operates at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We measure decay-time distributions to determine $CP$-violating parameters $S$ and $C$. Measurement of branching fractions, CP asymmetry, and isospin asymmetry for $\boldsymbol{B\rightarrowργ}$ decays using Belle and Belle II data

Abstract: We present measurements of $B^{+}\rightarrowρ^{+}γ$ and $B^{0}\rightarrowρ^{0}γ$ decays using a combined data sample of $772 \times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and $387\times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle II experiment in $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance. After an optimized selection, a simultaneous fit to the Belle and Belle I… ▽ More We present measurements of $B^{+}\rightarrowρ^{+}γ$ and $B^{0}\rightarrowρ^{0}γ$ decays using a combined data sample of $772 \times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and $387\times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle II experiment in $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance. After an optimized selection, a simultaneous fit to the Belle and Belle II data sets yields $114\pm 12$ $B^{+}\rightarrowρ^{+}γ$ and $99\pm 12$ $B^{0}\rightarrowρ^{0}γ$ decays. The measured branching fractions are $(13.1^{+2.0 +1.3}_{-1.9 -1.2})\times 10^{-7}$ and $(7.5\pm 1.3^{+1.0}_{-0.8})\times 10^{-7}$ for $B^{+}\rightarrowρ^{+}γ$ and $B^{0}\rightarrowρ^{0}γ$ decays, respectively, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Evidence of $h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})η$ decay and search for $h_{b}(\text{1P,2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})π^0$ with the Belle detector

Abstract: We report the first evidence for the $h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})η$ transition with a significance of $3.5$ standard deviations. The decay branching fraction is measured to be $\mathcal{B}[h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})η]=(7.1 ~^{+3.7} _{-3.2}\pm 0.8)\times10^{-3}$, which is noticeably smaller than expected. Measurement of the integrated luminosity of data samples collected during 2019-2022 by the Belle II experiment

Abstract: A series of data samples was collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider from March 2019 to June 2022. We determine the integrated luminosities of these data samples using three distinct methodologies involving Bhabha ($e^+e^- \to e^+e^-(nγ)$), digamma ($e^+e^- \to γγ(nγ)$), and dimuon ($e^+e^- \to μ^+ μ^- (nγ)$) events. Abstract: We search for excited charmed baryons in the $Λ_c^+η$ system using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980 $\rm fb^{-1}$. The data were collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}$$e^{-}$ asymmetric-energy collider. No significant signals are found in the $Λ_c^+η$ mass spectrum, including the known $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$. We set upper limits at 90\% credibility level on ratios of branching fractions of $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$ decaying to $Λ_c^+η$ relative to $Σ_c(2455)π$ of $<0.13$ for the $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $<1.11$ for the $Λ_c(2940)^+$. The results are based on data from SuperKEKB electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $362~\text{fb}^{-1}$. The event yields are extracted… ▽ More We present measurements of the branching fractions of eight $\overline B{}^0\to D^{(*)+} K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$, $B^{-}\to D^{(*)0} K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$ decay channels. The results are based on data from SuperKEKB electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $362~\text{fb}^{-1}$. The event yields are extracted from fits to the distributions of the difference between expected and observed $B$ meson energy, and are efficiency-corrected as a function of $m(K^-K^{(*)0}_{(S)})$ and $m(D^{(*)}K^{(*)0}_{(S)})$ in order to avoid dependence on the decay model. These results include the first observation of $\overline B{}^0\to D^+K^-K_S^0$, $B^-\to D^{*0}K^-K_S^0$, and $\overline B{}^0\to D^{*+}K^-K_S^0$ decays and a significant improvement in the precision of the other channels compared to previous measurements. The helicity-angle distributions and the invariant mass distributions of the $K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$ systems are compatible with quasi-two-body decays via a resonant transition with spin-parity $J^P=1^-$ for the $K^-K_S^0$ systems and $J^P= 1^+$ for the $K^-K^{*0}$ systems. By multiplying by the branching fraction of the normalization mode, ${\mathcal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+})$, we obtain the following absolute branching fraction results $(6.9 \pm 0.3 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.5 ({\rm syst}) \pm 1.3 ({\rm norm})) \times 10^{-3}$, $(1.6 \pm 0.2 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.2 ({\rm syst}) \pm 0.3 ({\rm norm})) \times 10^{-3}$, and $(1.2 \pm 0.3 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.1 ({\rm syst}) \pm 0.2 ({\rm norm})) \times 10^{-3}$, for $Ξ_{c}^{0}$ decays to $Ξ^{0}π^{0}$, $Ξ^{0}η$, and $Ξ^{0}η^{\prime}$ final states, respectively. The third errors are from the uncertainty on ${\mathcal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+})$. Abstract: We present a measurement of the ratio $R_μ= \mathcal{B}(τ^-\to μ^-\barν_μν_τ) / \mathcal{B}(τ^-\to e^-\barν_eν_τ)$ of branching fractions $\mathcal{B}$ of the $τ$ lepton decaying to muons or electrons using data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The sample has an integrated luminosity of 362 fb$^{-1}$ at a centre-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. The sample has an integrated luminosity of 362 fb$^{-1}$ at a centre-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. Using an optimised event selection, a binned maximum likelihood fit is performed using the momentum spectra of the electron and muon candidates. The result, $R_μ= 0.9675 \pm 0.0007 \pm 0.0036$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, is the most precise to date. It provides a stringent test of the light-lepton universality, translating to a ratio of the couplings of the muon and electron to the $W$ boson in $τ$ decays of $0.9974 \pm 0.0019$, in agreement with the standard model expectation of unity. △ Less

The selection of $e^{-}e^{+}\toτ^+τ^-$ events is based on an inclusive reconstruction of the non-signal tau decay, and on a boosted decision tree to suppress background. We use an $e^+e^-$ data sample corresponding to 191 $\text{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, collected at a center-of-mass energy at or near the $Υ{(4S)}$ resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. Signal yields are extracted by fitting the two-photon mass distribution in $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0γ$ events, which involve a $π^0 \to γγ$ decay and an energetic photon radiated from the initial state. Signal efficiency corrections with an accuracy of 1.6% are obtained from several control data samples. The uncertainty on the cross section at the $ω$ and $φ$ resonances is dominated by the systematic uncertainty of 2.2%. The resulting cross sections in the 0.62-1.80 GeV energy range yield $ a_μ^{3π} = [48.91 \pm 0.23~(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 1.07~(\mathrm{syst})] \times 10^{-10} $ for the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. This result differs by $2.5$ standard deviations from the most precise current determination. △ Less

We also measure the cross section of inclusive $pJ/ψ$ production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation to be $σ(e^+e^- \to pJ/ψ+ anything) = [57.5 \pm 2.1 (stat.) \pm 2.5(syst.)]$~fb at $\sqrt{s} = 10.52~\hbox{GeV}$ using an 89.5~fb$^{-1}$ continuum data sample. There is no significant $P_c(4312)^+$, $P_c(4440)^+$ or $P_c(4457)^+$ signal found in the $pJ/ψ$ final states in $Υ(1,2S)$ inclusive decays. We determine the upper limits of $\mathcal{B}[Υ(1,2S)\to P_c^{+} + anything] \cdot \mathcal{B}(P_c^{+}\to pJ/ψ)$ to be at the $10^{-6}$ level. △ Less

For masses below 6 GeV/$c^{2}$, the corresponding constraints on the couplings of these processes to the standard model range from 0.0008 to 0.039 for the $L_μ-L_τ$ model and from 0.0018 to 0.040 for the muonphilic scalar model. Abstract: We describe a measurement of charge-parity ($CP$) violation asymmetries in $B^0\toη'K^0_S$ decays using Belle II data. We consider $η'\toη(\toγγ)π^+π^-$ and $η'\toρ(\toπ^+π^-)γ$ decays. The data were collected at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider between the years 2019 and 2022, and contain $(387\pm 6) \times 10^6$ bottom-antibottom meson pairs. The measured direct and mixing-induced $CP$ asymmetries are $\text{C}_{η'K^0_S} = -0.19 \pm 0.08 \pm 0.03 $ and $\text{S}_{η'K^0_S} = +0.67 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.04 $, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Consistent with the expected background yield, one event is observed in the data sample after application of all the event-selection criteria. Possible intermediate states in the $π^+π^-Υ(1S,2S)$ transitions are also investigated, and no evidence for decays proceeding via the $π^\mp Z_b^\pm$ or $f_0(980)Υ(nS)$ intermediate states is found. We measure Born cross sections for the $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}Υ(nS)$ process that, combined with results from Belle, improve the precision of measurements of the $Υ(10753)$ mass and width by nearly a factor of two to $(10756.3\pm2.7\pm0.6)$ MeV/$c^2$ and $(29.7\pm8.5\pm1.1)$ MeV, respectively. The relative ratios of the Born cross sections at the $Υ(10753)$ resonance peak are also reported for the first time. △ Less

Abstract: We report the results of the first search for $B^-$ decays to the $\barΞ_{c}^{0} \barΛ_{c}^{-}$ final state using 711~${\rm fb^{-1}}$ of data collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95\% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and Standard Model branching fractions ${\mathcal{B}(B^- \rightarrow \barΞ_{c}^{0} \barΛ_{c}^{-})}/{\mathcal{B}(B^- \rightarrow Ξ_{c}^{0} \barΛ_{c}^{-})}$ to be $< 2.7\%$ and on the $Ξ_{c}^{0} - \barΞ_{c}^{0}$ oscillation angular frequency $ω$ to be $< 0.76\ \mathrm{ps}^{-1}$ (equivalent to $τ_{\rm mix} > 1.3$~ps). △ Less

Abstract: We present a measurement of $B^{0} \rightarrow ωω$, a charmless decay into two vector mesons, using 772 $\times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The decay is observed with a significance of 7.9 standard deviations. The normalization decay, $\overline{B}\rightarrow D^{*} \ell^{-} \overlineν_{\ell}$, where $\ell$ is an electron or muon, produces the same observable final state particles. The ratio of branching fractions is extracted in a simultaneous fit to two signal-discriminating variables in both channels and yields $R(D^{*}) = 0.262~_{-0.039}^{+0.041}(\mathrm{stat})~_{-0.032}^{+0.035}(\mathrm{syst})$. Evidence for $B^{+}\to K^{+}ν\barν$ decays

Abstract: We search for the rare decay $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}ν\barν$ in a $362\ \rm{fb}^{-1}$ sample of electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We use the inclusive properties of the accompanying $B$ meson in $Υ(4S) \to B\kern 0.18em\overline{\kern -0.18em B}{}$ events to suppress background from other decays of the signal $B$ ca… ▽ More We search for the rare decay $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}ν\barν$ in a $362\ \rm{fb}^{-1}$ sample of electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We use the inclusive properties of the accompanying $B$ meson in $Υ(4S) \to B\kern 0.18em\overline{\kern -0.18em B}{}$ events to suppress background from other decays of the signal $B$ candidate and light-quark pair production. We validate the measurement with an auxiliary analysis based on a conventional hadronic reconstruction of the accompanying $B$ meson. For background suppression, we exploit distinct signal features using machine learning methods tuned with simulated data. The signal-reconstruction efficiency and background suppression are validated through various control channels. The branching fraction is extracted in a maximum likelihood fit. Our inclusive and hadronic analyses yield consistent results for the $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}ν\barν$ branching fraction of $\left[2.7\pm 0.5(\mathrm{stat})\pm 0.5(\mathrm{syst})\right] \times 10^{-5}$ and $\left[1.1^{+0.9}_{-0.8}(\mathrm{stat}){}^{+0.8}_{-0.5}(\mathrm{syst})\right] \times 10^{-5}$, respectively. Combining the results, we determine the branching fraction of the decay $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}ν\barν$ to be $\left[2.3 \pm 0.5(\mathrm{stat})^{+0.5}_{-0.4}(\mathrm{syst})\right]\times 10^{-5}$, providing the first evidence for this decay at $3.5$ standard deviations. In addition, we measure the branching fraction and direct $\it{CP}$ asymmetry of the decay $B^+ \to π^+π^0$ and the branching fraction of the decay $B^0 \to π^+π^-$. The data are collected with the Belle II detector from $e^+e^-$ collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance produced by the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy collider and contain $387\times 10^6$ bottom-antibottom meson pairs. Signal yields are determined in two-dimensional fits to background-discriminating variables, and range from 500 to 3900 decays, depending on the channel. We obtain $-0.03 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.04$ for the sum rule, in agreement with the standard model expectation of zero and with a precision comparable to the best existing determinations. △ Less

Abstract: We report the first search for a non-standard-model resonance decaying into $τ$ pairs in $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow μ^{+}μ^{-} τ^+τ^-$ events in the 3.6-10 GeV/$c^{2}$ mass range. We use a 62.8 fb$^{-1}$ sample of $e^+e^-$ collisions collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at 90% confidence level on the product of cross section and branching fraction into $τ$ pairs, ranging from 0.7 fb to 24 fb, and on the couplings of these processes. We obtain world-leading constraints on the couplings for the leptophilic scalar model for masses above 6.5 GeV/$c^2$ and for the axion-like particle model over the entire mass range. △ Less

These results include the first observation of $\overline B{}^0\to D^+K^-K_S^0$, $B^-\to D^{*0}K^-K_S^0$, and $\overline B{}^0\to D^{*+}K^-K_S^0$ decays and a significant improvement in the precision of $\text{B}(B^-\to D^0K^-K_S^0)$ compared to previous measurements. △ Less

Novel method for the identification of the production flavor of neutral charmed mesons

Abstract: We propose a new algorithm for the identification of the production flavor of neutral $D$ mesons in the Belle II experiment. The algorithm exploits the correlation between the flavor of a reconstructed neutral $D$ meson (signal $D$ meson) and the electric charges of particles reconstructed in the rest of the $e^+e^-\to c \bar{c}$ event. These include those originating from the decay of the other c… ▽ More We propose a new algorithm for the identification of the production flavor of neutral $D$ mesons in the Belle II experiment. The algorithm exploits the correlation between the flavor of a reconstructed neutral $D$ meson (signal $D$ meson) and the electric charges of particles reconstructed in the rest of the $e^+e^-\to c \bar{c}$ event. These include those originating from the decay of the other charm hadron produced in the event, as well as those possibly produced in association with the signal $D$ meson. We develop the algorithm using simulation and calibrate it in data using decay modes that identify the flavor of the decaying neutral $D$ meson. We use a data sample of $e^+e^-$ collisions, corresponding to $362\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, collected by Belle II at center-of-mass energies near the $Υ(4S)$ mass. The effective tagging efficiency in data is $(47.91 \pm 0.07 \mathrm{(stat)} \pm 0.51 \mathrm{(syst)})\%$, independent of the neutral-$D$-meson decay mode. This charm flavor tagger will approximately double the effective sample size of many $CP$-violation and charm-mixing measurements that so far have exclusively relied on neutral $D$ mesons originating from $D^{*\pm}$ decays. While developed for Belle II, the basic principles underlying the charm flavor tagger can be used in other experiments, including those at hadron colliders. △ Less

First Simultaneous Determination of Inclusive and Exclusive $\left|V_{ub}\right|$

This allows for the reconstruction of the hadronic $X_u$ system of the semileptonic $b \to u \ell \bar ν_\ell$ decay. We separate exclusive $B \to π\, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ decays from other inclusive $B \to X_u \, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ and backgrounds with a two-dimensional fit, that utilizes the number of charged pions in the $X_u$ system and the four-momentum transfer $q^2$ between the $B$ and $X_u$ system. Combining our measurement with information from lattice QCD and QCD calculations of the inclusive partial rate as well as external experimental information on the shape of the $B \to π\, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ form factor, we determine $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{excl.}} \right| = (3.78 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.16 \pm 0.14)\times 10^{-3}$ and $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{incl.}} \right| = (3.88 \pm 0.20 \pm 0.31 \pm 0.09)\times 10^{-3}$, respectively, with the uncertainties being the statistical error, systematic errors, and theory errors. The ratio of $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{excl.}} \right| / \left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{incl.}} \right| = 0.97 \pm 0.12$ is compatible with unity. △ Less

The measurement is based on the reconstruction of the $τ^-\toμ^-\barν_μν_τ$ events with subsequent muon decay-in-flight in the Belle central drift chamber. The analyzed data sample of $988\,\text{fb}^{-1}$ collected by the Belle detector corresponds to approximately $912\times10^6$ $τ^+ τ^-$ pairs. We measure $ξ^\prime=0.22\pm0.94(\text{stat})\pm0.42(\text{syst})$, which is in agreement with the standard model prediction of $ξ^\prime=1$. Statistical uncertainty dominates in this study, being a limiting factor, while systematic uncertainty is well under control. Our analysis proved the practicability of this promising method and its prospects for further precise measurement in future experiments. △ Less

We determine the mass and width parameters to be $m = 3873.71 ^{+0.56}_{-0.50} ({\rm stat}) \pm0.13 ({\rm syst}) ~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ and $Γ_0 = 5.2 ^{+2.2}_{-1.5} ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.4 ({\rm syst})~{\rm MeV}$, respectively. The branching fraction is found to be ${\cal B} (B^+\to X(3872)K^+) \times {\cal{B}}(X(3872) \to D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}) = (0.97 ^{+0.21}_{-0.18} ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.10 ({\rm syst})) \times 10^{-4}$. The signal from $B^0$ decays is observed for the first time with $5.2σ$ significance, and the ratio of branching fractions between charged and neutral $B$ decays is measured to be ${\cal B}(B^0\to X(3872)K^0)/{\cal B}(B^+ \to X(3872)K^+) = 1.34^{+0.47}_{-0.40} ({\rm stat}) ^{+0.10}_{-0.12} ({\rm syst})$. The peak is also studied using a Flatté lineshape. We determine the lower limit on the $D\overline{D}{}^{*}$ coupling constant $g$ to be $0.075$ at 95% credibility in the parameter region where the ratio of $g$ to the mass difference from the $D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}$ threshold is equal to $-15.11~{\rm GeV}^{-1}$, as measured by LHCb. △ Less

The mass difference between $Λ_c(2625)^+$ and $Λ_c^+$ is measured to be $M(Λ_c(2625)^{+}) - M(Λ_c^{+}) = 341.518 \pm 0.006 \pm 0.049\ \mathrm{MeV}/\mathit{c}^2$. The upper limit on the width is measured to be $Γ(Λ_c(2625)^+) < 0.52\,\mathrm{MeV}/\textit{c}^2$ at 90\% credibility level. Based on a full Dalitz plot fit, branching ratios with respect to the mode $Λ_c(2625)^+ \to Λ_c^+ π^+ π^-$ are measured to be $\frac{\mathcal{B}(Λ_c(2625)^+ \to Σ_c^{0} π^{+})} {\mathcal{B}(Λ_c(2625)^+ \to Λ_c^+ π^{+} π^{-})} = (5.19 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.40) \%$ and $\frac{\mathcal{B}(Λ_c(2625)^+ \to Σ_c^{++} π^{-})} {\mathcal{B}(Λ_c(2625)^+ \to Λ_c^+ π^{+} π^{-})} = (5.13 \pm 0.26 \pm 0.32) \%$. These measurements can be used to further constrain the parameters of the underlying theoretical models. △ Less
