New results are presented on a high-statistics measurement of Collins and Sivers asymmetries of charged hadrons produced in deep inelastic scattering of muons on a transversely polarised $^6$LiD target. The data were taken in 2022 with the COMPASS spectrometer using the 160 \gevv\ muon beam at CERN, balancing the existing data on transversely polarised proton targets. The first results from about two-thirds of the new data have total uncertainties smaller by up to a factor of three compared to the previous deuteron measurements. Using all the COMPASS proton and deuteron results, both the transversity and the Sivers distribution functions of the $u$ and $d$ quark, as well as the tensor charge in the measured $x$-range are extracted. In particular, the accuracy of the $d$ quark results is significantly improved.

The COMPASS Collaboration performed measurements of the Drell-Yan process in 2015 and 2018 using a 190 GeV/c $π^{-}$ beam im**ing on a transversely polarised ammonia target. Combining the data of both years, we present final results on the amplitudes of the five azimuthal modulations in the dimuon production cross section. Three of these transverse-spin-dependent azimuthal asymmetries (TSAs) probe the nucleon leading-twist Sivers, transversity, and pretzelosity transverse-momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDFs). The other two are induced by subleading effects. These TSAs provide unique new inputs for the study of the nucleon TMD PDFs and their universality properties. In particular, the Sivers TSA observed in this measurement is consistent with the fundamental QCD prediction of a sign change of naive time-reversal-odd TMD PDFs when comparing the Drell-Yan process with semi-inclusive measurements of deep inelastic scattering. Also, within the context of model predictions, the observed transversity TSA is consistent with the expectation of a sign change for the Boer-Mulders function.

The Belle II data set of electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance, corresponding to 189.3$\,$fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, is analyzed. With the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert form factor parameterization, the parameters $η_{\rm EW} F(1) |V_{cb}|$ and $ρ^{2}$ are extracted, where $η_{\rm EW}$ is an electroweak correction, $F(1)$ is a normalization factor and $ρ^{2}$ is a form factor shape parameter. We reconstruct 516 signal decays and thereby obtain $\mathcal{B} (B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} ) = \left(5.27 \pm 0.22~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.38~\rm{\left(syst\right)}\right) \%$, $η_{EW} F(1) |V_{cb}| \times 10^{3} = 34.6 \pm 1.8~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 1.7~\rm{\left(syst\right)}$, and $ρ^{2} = 0.94 \pm 0.18~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.11~\rm{\left(syst\right)}$.

The production of vector mesons in deep inelastic scattering is an interesting yet scarsely explored channel to study the transverse spin structure of the nucleon and the related phenomena. The COMPASS collaboration has performed the first measurement of the Collins and Sivers asymmetries for inclusively produced $ρ^0$ mesons. The analysis is based on the data set collected in deep inelastic scattering in $2010$ using a $160\,\,\rm{GeV}/c$ $μ^+$ beam im**ing on a transversely polarized $\rm{NH}_3$ target. The $ρ^{0}$ mesons are selected from oppositely charged hadron pairs, and the asymmetries are extracted as a function of the Bjorken-$x$ variable, the transverse momentum of the pair and the fraction of the energy $z$ carried by the pair. Indications for positive Collins and Sivers asymmetries are observed.

We report on a measurement of Spin Density Matrix Elements (SDMEs) in hard exclusive $ρ^0$ meson muoproduction at COMPASS using 160~GeV/$c$ polarised $ μ^{+}$ and $ μ^{-}$ beams im**ing on a liquid hydrogen target. The measurement covers the kinematic range 5.0~GeV/$c^2$ $< W <$ 17.0~GeV/$c^2$, 1.0 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ $< Q^2 <$ 10.0 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ and 0.01 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ $< p_{\rm{T}}^2 <$ 0.5 (GeV/$c$)$^2$. Here, $W$ denotes the mass of the final hadronic system, $Q^2$ the virtuality of the exchanged photon, and $p_{\rm{T}}$ the transverse momentum of the $ρ^0$ meson with respect to the virtual-photon direction. The measured non-zero SDMEs for the transitions of transversely polarised virtual photons to longitudinally polarised vector mesons ($γ^*_T \to V^{ }_L$) indicate a violation of $s$-channel helicity conservation. Additionally, we observe a dominant contribution of natural-parity-exchange transitions and a very small contribution of unnatural-parity-exchange transitions, which is compatible with zero within experimental uncertainties. The results provide important input for modelling Generalised Parton Distributions (GPDs). In particular, they may allow one to evaluate in a model-dependent way the role of parton helicity-flip GPDs in exclusive $ρ^0$ production.

The semileptonic decays $B^0\to D^-(\to K^+π^-π^-)\ell^+ν_\ell$ and $B^+\to\bar D^0(\to K^+π^-)\ell^+ν_\ell$ are reconstructed, where $\ell$ is either electron or a muon. The second $B$ meson in the $Υ(4S)$ event is not explicitly reconstructed. Using the diamond-frame method, we determine the $B$ meson four-momentum and thus the hadronic recoil. We extract the partial decay rates as functions of $w$ and perform a fit to the decay form-factor and the CKM parameter $|V_{cb}|$ using the BGL parameterization of the form factor and lattice QCD input from the FNAL/MILC and HPQCD collaborations. We obtain $η_{EW}|V_{cb}|=(38.53\pm 1.15)\times 10^{-3}$, where $η_{EW}$ is an electroweak correction, and the error accounts for theoretical and experimental sources of uncertainty.

We use SuperKEKB electron-positron collisions corresponding to $189~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance by the Belle II experiment. The partner $B$ candidates are fully reconstructed using a large number of hadronic channels. The $B \rightarrow X_s γ$ partial branching fractions are measured as a function of photon energy in the signal $B$ meson rest frame in eight bins above $1.8~\mathrm{GeV}$. The background-subtracted signal yield for this photon energy region is $343 \pm 122$ events. Integrated branching fractions for three photon energy thresholds of $1.8~\mathrm{GeV}$, $2.0~\mathrm{GeV}$, and $2.1~\mathrm{GeV}$ are also reported, and found to be in agreement with world averages.

The decay is reconstructed without identifying the partner $B$ meson. The partial branching fractions are measured independently for $B^0\toπ^- e^+ ν_{e}$ and $B^0\toπ^- μ^+ ν_μ$ as functions of $q^{2}$ (momentum transfer squared), using 3896 $B^0\toπ^- e^+ ν_{e}$ and 5466 $B^0\toπ^- μ^+ ν_μ$ decays. The total branching fraction is found to be $(1.426 \pm 0.056 \pm 0.125) \times 10^{-4}$ for $B^0\toπ^- \ell^+ ν_{\ell}$ decays, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. By fitting the measured partial branching fractions as functions of $q^{2}$, together with constraints on the nonperturbative hadronic contribution from lattice QCD calculations, the magnitude of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $V_{ub}$, $(3.55 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.17) \times 10^{-3}$, is extracted. Here, the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic and the third is theoretical.

Abstract:
We report on a Belle II measurement of the branching fraction ($\mathcal{B}$), longitudinal polarization fraction ($f_L$), and CP asymmetry ($\mathcal{A}_{CP}$) of $B^+\to ρ^+ρ^0$ decays. We fit the distributions of the difference between expected and observed $B$ candidate energy, continuum-suppression discriminant, dipion masses, and decay angles of the selected samples, to determine a signal yield of $345 \pm 31$ events. The signal yields are corrected for efficiencies determined from simulation and control data samples to obtain $\mathcal{B}(B^+ \to ρ^+ρ^0) = [23.2^{+\ 2.2}_{-\ 2.1} (\rm stat) \pm 2.7 (\rm syst)]\times 10^{-6}$, $f_L = 0.943 ^{+\ 0.035}_{-\ 0.033} (\rm stat)\pm 0.027(\rm syst)$, and $\mathcal{A}_{CP}=-0.069 \pm 0.068(\rm stat) \pm 0.060 (\rm syst)$. The results agree with previous measurements. This is the first measurement of $\mathcal{A}_{CP}$ in $B^+\to ρ^+ρ^0$ decays reported by Belle II.

The data was collected during 2019--2021 by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB $e^{+}e^{-}$ asymmetric-energy collider. We reconstruct $K^{\ast}(892)$ candidates in the $K^+π^-$, $K_{S}^{0}π^+$, and $K^+π^0$ final states. The signal yields with statistical uncertainties are $22\pm 6$, $18 \pm 6$, and $38 \pm 9$ for the decays $B \to K^{\ast}(892)μ^+μ^-$, $B \to K^{\ast}(892)e^+e^-$, and $B \to K^{\ast}(892)\ell^+\ell^-$, respectively. We measure the branching fractions of these decays for the entire range of the dilepton mass, excluding the very low mass region to suppress the $B \to K^{\ast}(892)γ(\to e^+e^-)$ background and regions compatible with decays of charmonium resonances, to be \begin{equation} {\cal B}(B \to K^{\ast}(892)μ^+μ^-) = (1.19 \pm 0.31 ^{+0.08}_{-0.07}) \times 10^{-6}, {\cal B}(B \to K^{\ast}(892)e^+e^-) = (1.42 \pm 0.48 \pm 0.09)\times 10^{-6}, {\cal B}(B \to K^{\ast}(892)\ell^+\ell^-) = (1.25 \pm 0.30 ^{+0.08}_{-0.07}) \times 10^{-6}, \end{equation} where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. These results, limited by sample size, are the first measurements of $B \to K^{\ast}(892)\ell^+\ell^-$ branching fractions from the Belle II experiment.

We present the study of the production of double $J/ψ$ mesons using COMPASS data collected with a 190 GeV/$c$ $π^-$ beam scattering off NH$_{3}$, Al and W targets. Kinematic distributions of the collected double $J/ψ$ events are analysed, and the double $J/ψ$ production cross section is estimated for each of the COMPASS targets. The results are compared to predictions from single- and double-parton scattering models as well as the pion intrinsic charm and the tetraquark exotic resonance hypotheses. It is demonstrated that the single parton scattering production mechanism gives the dominant contribution that is sufficient to describe the data. An upper limit on the double intrinsic charm content of pion is evaluated. No significant signatures that could be associated with exotic tetraquarks are found in the double $J/ψ$ mass spectrum.

In the framework of precision experiments, the search for electric dipole moments and the precise determination of magnetic dipole moments (g-2) have since long been of prime interest. Hadronic decays offer the best accuracy, since only the kinematic information carried by a single neutrino per decay is lost. Thus, they reveal more easily precious information on the helicity of the initial tau lepton. However, in contrast to one- or two-body hadronic final states, the description of hadronic multi-body final states depends on the model for the hadronic current. In this work, we determine how the choice of a hadronic model impacts the extraction of tau electric and magnetic dipole moments.

Many analyses in high energy physics are limited due to missing kinematic information of known invisible particles in the detector, for example neutrinos. The undetected particle carries away momentum and energy information, preventing the full reconstruction of such an event. In this paper, we present a method to handle this missing information, referred to as the Generalised Known Kinematics (GKK) approach. It is based on constructing event-by-event probability density distributions that describe the physically allowed kinematics of an event. For GKK we take into account the available kinematic information and constraints given by the assumed final state. Summing these event-wise distributions over large data sets allows the determination of parameters that influence the event kinematics, such as particle masses, which are otherwise obscured by the missing information on the invisible final-state particles. The method is demonstrated in simulation studies with $τ^+ τ^-$ events in $e^+ e^-$ collisions at the $Υ$(4S) resonance, presenting a new, promising approach for the measurement of the $τ$ lepton mass.

We report on measurements of branching fractions ($\mathcal{B}$) and CP-violating charge asymmetries ($\mathcal{A}_{\rm CP}$) of multibody charmless $B$ decays reconstructed by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider. We use a sample of collisions collected in 2019 and 2020 at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance and corresponding to $62.8$ fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. We use simulation to determine optimized event selections. The $ΔE$ and $M_{\rm bc}$ distributions of the resulting samples are fit to determine signal yields of approximately 690, 840, and 380 decays for the channels $B^+ \to K^+K^-K^+$, $B^+ \to K^+π^-π^+$, and $B^0 \to K^+π^-π^0$, respectively. These yields are corrected for efficiencies determined from simulation and control data samples to obtain $\mathcal{B}(B^+ \to K^+K^-K^+) = [35.8 \pm 1.6(\rm stat) \pm 1.4 (\rm syst)]\times 10^{-6}$, $\mathcal{B}(B^+ \to K^+π^-π^+) = [67.0 \pm 3.3 (\rm stat)\pm 2.3 (\rm syst)]\times 10^{-6}$, $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to K^+π^-π^0) = [38.1 \pm 3.5 (\rm stat)\pm 3.9 (\rm syst)]\times 10^{-6}$, $\mathcal{A}_{\rm CP}(B^+ \to K^+K^-K^+) = -0.103 \pm 0.042(\rm stat) \pm 0.020 (\rm syst)$, $\mathcal{A}_{\rm CP}(B^+ \to K^+π^-π^+) = -0.010 \pm 0.050 (\rm stat)\pm 0.021(\rm syst)$, and $\mathcal{A}_{\rm CP}(B^0 \to K^+π^-π^0) = 0.207 \pm 0.088 (\rm stat)\pm 0.011(\rm syst)$. We study the spin-exotic $J^{PC} = 1^{-+}$ amplitude in single-diffractive dissociation of 190 GeV$/c$ pions into $π^-π^-π^+$ using a hydrogen target and confirm the $π_1(1600) \to ρ(770) π$ amplitude, which interferes with a nonresonant $1^{-+}$ amplitude. We demonstrate that conflicting conclusions from previous studies on these amplitudes can be attributed to different analysis models and different treatment of the dependence of the amplitudes on the squared four-momentum transfer and we thus reconcile their experimental findings. We study the nonresonant contributions to the $π^-π^-π^+$ final state using pseudo-data generated on the basis of a Deck model. Subjecting pseudo-data and real data to the same partial-wave analysis, we find good agreement concerning the spectral shape and its dependence on the squared four-momentum transfer for the $J^{PC} = 1^{-+}$ amplitude and also for amplitudes with other $J^{PC}$ quantum numbers. We investigate for the first time the amplitude of the $π^-π^+$ subsystem with $J^{PC} = 1^{--}$ in the $3π$ amplitude with $J^{PC} = 1^{-+}$ employing the novel freed-isobar analysis scheme. We reveal this $π^-π^+$ amplitude to be dominated by the $ρ(770)$ for both the $π_1(1600)$ and the nonresonant contribution. We determine the $ρ(770)$ resonance parameters within the three-pion final state. These findings largely confirm the underlying assumptions for the isobar model used in all previous partial-wave analyses addressing the $J^{PC} = 1^{-+}$ amplitude.

Based on the observation of sizeable target-transverse-spin asymmetries in single-hadron and hadron-pair production in Semi-Inclusive measurements of Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS), the chiral-odd transversity quark distribution functions $h_1^q$ are nowadays well established. Several possible channels to access these functions were originally proposed. One candidate is the measurement of the polarisation of $Λ$ hyperons produced in SIDIS off transversely polarised nucleons, where the transverse polarisation of the struck quark might be transferred to the final-state hyperon. In this article, we present the COMPASS results on the transversity-induced polarisation of $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ hyperons produced in SIDIS off transversely polarised protons. Within the experimental uncertainties, no significant deviation from zero was observed. The results are discussed in the context of different models taking into account previous experimental results on $h_1^u$ and $h_1^d$.

A search for the flavor-changing neutral-current decay $B^{+}\to K^{+}ν\barν$ is performed at the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider. The results are based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $63\,\mbox{fb}^{-1}$ collected at the $Υ{(4S)}$ resonance and a sample of $9\,\mbox{fb}^{-1}$ collected at an energy $60\mathrm{\,Me\kern -0.1em V}$ below the resonance. A novel measurement method is employed, which exploits topological properties of the $B^{+}\to K^{+}ν\barν$ decay that differ from both generic bottom-meson decays and light-quark pair production. This inclusive tagging approach offers a higher signal efficiency compared to previous searches. No significant signal is observed. An upper limit on the branching fraction of $B^{+}\to K^{+}ν\barν$ of $4.1 \times 10^{-5}$ is set at the 90% confidence level.

The measurements reported are for the decay modes $B^-\to D^0 h^-$, $B^{-}\to D^{*0}h^-$, $\bar{B}^{0}\to D^{+} h^{-}$ and $\bar{B}^{0}\to D^{*+} h^{-}$, where $h=π$ or $K$. These modes are either signal or control channels for measurements related to the unitarity triangle angle $γ$ in direct or time-dependent $CP$-violation measurements. The reported observables are the ratios between the $B\to D^{(*)}K$ and $B\to D^{(*)}π$ decay rates, which are found to be in agreement with previous measurements.

We report on a measurement of Spin Density Matrix Elements (SDMEs) in hard exclusive $ω$ meson muoproduction on the proton at COMPASS using 160 GeV/$c$ polarised $ μ^{+}$ and $ μ^{-}$ beams im**ing on a liquid hydrogen target. The measurement covers the range 5.0 GeV/$c^2$ $< W <$ 17.0 GeV/$c^2$, with the average kinematics $\langle Q^{2} \rangle=$ 2.1 (GeV/$c$)$^2$, $\langle W \rangle= 7.6$ GeV/$c^2$, and $\langle p^{2}_{\rm T} \rangle = 0.16$ (GeV/$c$)$^2$. Here, $Q^2$ denotes the virtuality of the exchanged photon, $W$ the mass of the final hadronic system and $p_T$ the transverse momentum of the $ω$ meson with respect to the virtual-photon direction. The measured non-zero SDMEs for the transitions of transversely polarised virtual photons to longitudinally polarised vector mesons ($γ^*_T \to V_L$) indicate a violation of $s$-channel helicity conservation. Additionally, we observe a sizeable contribution of unnatural-parity-exchange (UPE) transitions that decreases with increasing $W$. The results provide important input for modelling Generalised Parton Distributions (GPDs). In particular, they may allow to evaluate in a model-dependent way the contribution of UPE transitions and assess the role of parton helicity-flip GPDs in exclusive $ω$ production.

The COMPASS experiment recently discovered a new isovector resonance-like signal with axial-vector quantum numbers, the $a_1(1420)$, decaying to $f_0(980)π$. With a mass too close to and a width smaller than the axial-vector ground state $a_1(1260)$, it was immediately interpreted as a new light exotic meson, similar to the $X$, $Y$, $Z$ states in the hidden-charm sector. We show that a resonance-like signal fully matching the experimental data is produced by the decay of the $a_1(1260)$ resonance into $K^\ast(\to Kπ)\bar{K}$ and subsequent rescattering through a triangle singularity into the coupled $f_0(980)π$ channel. The amplitude for this process is calculated using a new approach based on dispersion relations. The triangle-singularity model is fitted to the partial-wave data of the COMPASS experiment. Despite having less parameters, this fit shows a slightly better quality than the one using a resonance hypothesis and thus eliminates the need for an additional resonance in order to describe the data. We thereby demonstrate for the first time in the light-meson sector that a resonance-like structure in the experimental data can be described by rescattering through a triangle singularity, providing evidence for a genuine three-body effect.

The data were obtained by the COMPASS Collaboration using a 160 GeV muon beam im**ing on an isoscalar $^6$LiD target. The regime of deep-inelastic scattering is ensured by requiring $Q^2$ > 1 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ for the photon virtuality and $W > 5$ GeV/$c^2$ for the invariant mass of the produced hadronic system. The range in Bjorken-$x$ is restricted to $0.01 < x < 0.40$. Protons and antiprotons are identified in the momentum range $20 ÷60$ GeV/$c$. In the whole studied $z$-region, the $\bar{\rm p}$ over p multiplicity ratio is found to be below the lower limit expected from calculations based on leading-order perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (pQCD). Extending our earlier analysis of the K$^-$ over K$^+$ multiplicity ratio by including now events with larger virtual-photon energies, this ratio becomes closer to the expectation of next-to-leading order pQCD. The results of both analyses strengthen our earlier conclusion that the phase space available for hadronisation should be taken into account in the pQCD formalism.

Hadron leptoproduction in Semi-Inclusive measurements of Deep-Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) on unpolarised nucleons allows one to get information on the intrinsic transverse momentum of quarks in a nucleon and on the Boer-Mulders function through the measurement of azimuthal modulations in the cross section. These modulations were recently measured by the HERMES experiment at DESY on proton and deuteron targets, and by the COMPASS experiment using the CERN SPS muon beam and a $^6$LiD target. In both cases, the amplitudes of the $\cosφ_h$ and $\cos 2φ_h$ modulations show strong kinematic dependences for both positive and negative hadrons. It has been known since some time that the measured final-state hadrons in those SIDIS experiments receive a contribution from exclusive diffractive production of vector mesons, particularly important at large values of $z$, the fraction of the virtual photon energy carried by the hadron. In previous measurements of azimuthal asymmetries this contribution was not taken into account, because it was not known that it could distort the azimuthal modulations. Presently, a method to evaluate the contribution of the exclusive reactions to the azimuthal asymmetries measured by COMPASS has been developed. The subtraction of this contribution results in a better understanding of the kinematic effects, and the remaining non-zero $\cos 2φ_h$ modulation gives indication for a non-zero Boer-Mulders effect.

The light-meson spectrum can be studied by analyzing data from diffractive dissociation of pion or kaon beams. The contributions of the various states that are produced in these reactions are disentangled by the means of partial-wave analysis. A challenge in these analyses is that the partial-wave expansion has to be truncated, i.e. that only a finite subset of the infinitely many partial-wave amplitudes can be inferred from the data. In recent years, different groups have applied regularization techniques in order to determine the contributing waves from the data. However, to obtain meaningful results the choice of the regularization term is crucial. We present our recent developments of wave-selection methods for partial-wave analyses based on simulated data for diffractively produced three-pion events.

Modern hadron-spectroscopy experiments such as COMPASS collect data samples of unprecedented size, so that novel analysis techniques become possible and necessary. One such technique is the freed-isobar partial-wave analysis (PWA). In this approach, fixed parametrizations for the amplitudes of intermediate states commonly modeled using Breit-Wigner shapes are replaced by sets of step-like functions that are determined from the data. This approach not only reduces the model dependence of partial-wave analyses, but also allows us to study the amplitudes of the intermediate states and their dependence on the parent system.
We will also present results of a freed-isobar PWA performed on the large data set on diffractive production of three charged pions collected by the COMPASS experiment, which consists of $46\times10^6$ exclusive events. We will focus on results for the wave with spin-exotic quantum numbers $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$, in particular on its decay into $ρ(770)π$. Here, the freed-isobar PWA method provides insight into the interplay of three- and two-particle dynamics and confirms the decay of the spin-exotic $π_1(1600)$ resonance to $ρ(770)π$ in a model-independent way.

We report on a measurement of hard exclusive $π^0$ muoproduction on the proton by COMPASS using 160 GeV/$c$ polarised $μ^+$ and $μ^-$ beams of the CERN SPS im**ing on a liquid hydrogen target. From the average of the measured $μ^+$ and $μ^-$ cross sections, the virtual-photon proton cross section is determined as a function of the squared four-momentum transfer between initial and final proton in the range $0.08\,(\text{GeV/}c)^2 < |t| < 0.64\,(\text{GeV/}c)^2$. The average kinematics of the measurement are $\langle Q^2 \rangle =2.0\; {(\text{GeV}/c)^2}$, $\langle ν\rangle = 12.8\; {\text{GeV}}$, $\langle x_{Bj} \rangle = 0.093 $ and $\langle -t \rangle = 0.256\; {(\text{GeV}/c)^2} $. Fitting the azimuthal dependence reveals a combined contribution by transversely and longitudinally polarised photons of $(8.1 \ \pm \ 0.9_{\text{stat}}{}_{- \ 1.0}^{+ \ 1.1}\big\rvert_{\text{sys}})\,{\text{nb}}/{(\text{GeV}/c)^{2}}$, as well as transverse-transverse and longitudinal-transverse interference contributions of $(-6.0 \pm 1.3_{\text{stat}}{}_{- \ 0.7}^{+ \ 0.7}\big\rvert_{\text{sys}})\,{\text{nb}}/{(\text{GeV}/c)^{2}}$ and $(1.4 \pm 0.5_{\text{stat}}{}_{- \ 0.2}^{+ \ 0.3}\big\rvert_{\text{sys}})\,{\text{nb}}/{(\text{GeV}/c)^{2}}$, respectively. Our results provide important input for modelling Generalised Parton Distributions. In the context of the phenomenological Goloskokov-Kroll model, the statistically significant transverse-transverse interference contribution constitutes clear experimental evidence for the chiral-odd GPD $\overline{E}_T$.

The transverse spin asymmetries measured in semi-inclusive leptoproduction of hadrons, when weighted with the hadron transverse momentum $P_T$, allow for the extraction of important transverse-momentum-dependent distribution functions. In particular, the weighted Sivers asymmetries provide direct information on the Sivers function, which is a leading-twist distribution that arises from a correlation between the transverse momentum of an unpolarised quark in a transversely polarised nucleon and the spin of the nucleon. Using the high-statistics data collected by the COMPASS Collaboration in 2010 with a transversely polarised proton target, we have evaluated two types of $P_T$-weighted Sivers asymmetries, which are both proportional to the product of the firsttransverse moment of the Sivers function and of the fragmentation function. The results are compared to the standard unweighted Sivers asymmetries and used to extract the first transverse moments of the Sivers distributions for $u$ and $d$ quarks.

Based on previous conventional Partial-Wave Analyses (PWA), we performed a `freed-isobar PWA' on the same data, removing model assumptions on the dynamic isobar amplitudes for dominating waves. In this analysis, we encountered continuous mathematical ambiguities, which we were able to identify and resolve. This analysis gives an unprecedented insight in the interplay of $2π$ and $3π$ dynamics in the process. As an example we show results for a spin-exotic wave $J^{PC}_{X^-}=1^{-+}$ wave.

The PWA results, which were obtained in 100 bins of three-pion mass, $0.5 < m_{3π} < 2.5$ GeV/$c^2$, and simultaneously in 11 bins of the reduced four-momentum transfer squared, $0.1 < t' < 1.0$ $($GeV$/c)^2$, are subjected to a resonance-model fit using Breit-Wigner amplitudes to simultaneously describe a subset of 14 selected waves using 11 isovector light-meson states with $J^{PC} = 0^{-+}$, $1^{++}$, $2^{++}$, $2^{-+}$, $4^{++}$, and spin-exotic $1^{-+}$ quantum numbers. The model contains the well-known resonances $π(1800)$, $a_1(1260)$, $a_2(1320)$, $π_2(1670)$, $π_2(1880)$, and $a_4(2040)$. In addition, it includes the disputed $π_1(1600)$, the excited states $a_1(1640)$, $a_2(1700)$, and $π_2(2005)$, as well as the resonancelike $a_1(1420)$. We measure the resonance parameters mass and width of these objects by combining the information from the PWA results obtained in the 11 $t'$ bins. We extract the relative branching fractions of the $ρ(770) π$ and $f_2(1270) π$ decays of $a_2(1320)$ and $a_4(2040)$, where the former one is measured for the first time. In a novel approach, we extract the $t'$ dependence of the intensity of the resonances and of their phases. The $t'$ dependence of the intensities of most resonances differs distinctly from the $t'$ dependence of the nonresonant components. For the first time, we determine the $t'$ dependence of the phases of the production amplitudes and confirm that the production mechanism of the Pomeron exchange is common to all resonances.

We report on the first measurement of exclusive single-photon muoproduction on the proton by COMPASS using 160 GeV/$c$ polarized $μ^+$ and $μ^-$ beams of the CERN SPS im**ing on a liquid hydrogen target. We determine the dependence of the average of the measured $μ^+$ and $μ^-$ cross sections for deeply virtual Compton scattering on the squared four-momentum transfer $t$ from the initial to the final final proton. The slope $B$ of the $t$-dependence is fitted with a single exponential function, which yields $B=(4.3 \ \pm \ 0.6_{\text{stat}}\_{- \ 0.3}^{+ \ 0.1}\big\rvert_{\text{sys}}) (\text{GeV}/c)^{-2}$. This result can be converted into an average transverse extension of partons in the proton, $\sqrt{\langle r_{\perp}^2 \rangle} = (0.58 \ \pm \ 0.04_{\text{stat}}\_{- \ 0.02}^{+ \ 0.01}\big\rvert_{\text{sys}})\text{fm}$. For this measurement, the average virtuality of the photon mediating the interaction is $\langle Q^2 \rangle = 1.8\,(\text{GeV/}c)^2$ and the average value of the Bjorken variable is $\langle x_{\text{Bj}} \rangle = 0.056$.

The K$^{-}$ over K$^{+}$ multiplicity ratio is measured in deep-inelastic scattering, for the first time for kaons carrying a large fraction $z$ of the virtual-photon energy. The data were obtained by the COMPASS collaboration using a 160 GeV muon beam and an isoscalar $^6$LiD target. The regime of deep-inelastic scattering is ensured by requiring $Q^2>1$ (GeV/$c)^2$ for the photon virtuality and $W>5$ GeV/$c^2$ for the invariant mass of the produced hadronic system. Kaons are identified in the momentum range from 12 GeV/$c$ to 40 GeV/$c$, thereby restricting the range in Bjorken-$x$ to $0.01<x<0.40$. The $z$-dependence of the multiplicity ratio is studied for $z>0.75$. For very large values of $z$, $i.e.$ $z>0.8$, we observe the kaon multiplicity ratio to fall below the lower limits expected from calculations based on leading and next-to-leading order perturbative quantum chromodynamics. Also, the kaon multiplicity ratio shows a strong dependence on the missing mass of the single-kaon production process. This suggests that within the perturbative quantum chromodynamics formalism an additional correction may be required, which takes into account the phase space available for hadronisation.

One of the goals of the COMPASS experiment is the precision study of light-meson spectroscopy with data for various final states. With $46\times10^6$ exclusive events, the process $π^- p\toπ^-π^+π^- p$ constitutes the flagship channel. Based on this data set, the results of an extensive partial-wave analysis (PWA), using a total of 88 partial waves in the model, were published. Along with it, results of a first study of the so-called freed-isobar method were shown. Here, the fixed amplitudes for appearing $π^+π^-$ intermediate states used in the conventional analysis were replaced by sets of piecewise constant functions to extract the amplitudes of the $π^+π^-$ subsystems directly from the data. In this first study, this was one for three $π$ partial waves with $J^{PC}=0^{++}$ intermediate $π^+π^-$ states. The promising results inspired further extension of this method, by also freeing intermediate $π^+π^-$ states with $J^{PC} = 1^{--}$ and $2^{++}$. With this extension of the set of freed waves, mathematical ambiguities in the model arise due to the much higher flexibility of the model. We will present first results of these extended studies on COMPASS data along with methods to resolve the arising ambiguities.
