Based on the $SU(3)$ flavor $[SU(3)_f]$ symmetry, we depict and parameterize the $W$-emission and $W$-exchange processes using the topological diagram approach, establishing strict $SU(3)_f$ relations for possible decay channels. We identify dominant topological parameters, determined by available data, allowing us to explain the experimental ratios ${\cal B}(Ω_c^0\toΞ^{*0}\bar K^{*0})/{\cal B}(Ω_c^0\toΩ^-ρ^+)=0.28\pm 0.11$, ${\cal B}(Ω_c^0\toΞ^-π^+)/{\cal B}(Ω_c^0\toΞ^{0}\bar K^{0})=0.10\pm 0.02$, and ${\cal B}(Ω_c^0 \to Ω^- K^+)/{\cal B}(Ω_c^0 \to Ω^- π^+)=0.06\pm 0.01$. We also calculate the branching fractions of the Cabibbo-allowed decays, such as ${\cal B}(Ω_c^0 \to Ξ^{* 0} \bar{K}^{0})=(9.8\pm1.3)\times 10^{-4}$. In particular, we establish approximate isospin relations: ${\cal B}(Ω_c^0 \to Ξ^{(*)-} π^+)\simeq 2{\cal B}(Ω_c^0 \to Ξ^{(*)0} π^0)$ and ${\cal B}(Ω_c^0 \to Ξ^{(*)-} ρ^+)\simeq 2{\cal B}(Ω_c^0 \to Ξ^{(*)0} ρ^0)$, where ${\cal B}(Ω_c^0 \to Ξ^0 π^0)=(2.3\pm0.2)\times 10^{-4}$ is accessible to the Belle and LHCb experiments.

We determine the $SU(3)_f$ amplitudes and calculate ${\cal B}(B^-\to Ξ_c^0\bar Ξ_c^-)=(3.4^{+1.0}_{-0.9})\times 10^{-5}$ and ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to Λ_c^+\bar Ξ_c^-)=(3.9^{+1.2}_{-1.0})\times 10^{-5}$ induced by the single $W$-emission configuration. We find that the $W$-exchange amplitude, previously neglected in studies, needs to be taken into account. It can cause a destructive interfering effect with the $W$-emission amplitude, alleviating the significant discrepancy between the theoretical estimation and experimental data for ${\cal B}(\bar B^0\toΛ_c^+\barΛ_c^-)$. To test other interfering decay channels, we calculate ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to Ξ_c^{0(+)}\bar Ξ_c^{0(+)})=(3.0^{+1.4}_{-1.1})\times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(\bar B^0\to Ξ_c^0\bar Ξ_c^0)=(1.5^{+0.7}_{-0.6})\times 10^{-5}$. We estimate non-zero branching fractions for the pure $W$-exchange decay channels, specifically ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to Λ_c^+\bar Λ_c^-)=(8.1^{+1.7}_{-1.5})\times 10^{-5}$ and ${\cal B}(\bar B^0\to Ξ_c^+\bar Ξ_c^-)=(3.0\pm 0.6)\times 10^{-6}$. Additionally, we predict ${\cal B}(B^+_c\to Ξ_c^+\bar Ξ_c^0)=(2.8^{+0.9}_{-0.7})\times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(B^+_c\to Λ_c^+\bar Ξ_c^0)=(1.6^{+0.5}_{-0.4})\times 10^{-5}$, which are accessible to experimental facilities such as LHCb.

With the form factors extracted from the current data, we calculate ${\cal B}(D_s^+\to σ_0 e^+ν_e,σ_0\toπ^0π^0) =(12.9^{+6.3}_{-4.9})\times 10^{-4}$ and $(0.8^{+1.2}_{-0.7})\times 10^{-4}$ for the $q\bar q$ and $q^2\bar q^2$ quark structures, respectively, and compare them to the experimental upper limit: $6.4\times 10^{-4}$. It is clearly seen that $S_0$ prefers to be the $q^2\bar q^2$ bound state. Particularly, ${\cal B}_{q\bar q}(D_s^+\to σ_0 e^+ν_e,σ_0\toπ^+π^-) =(25.8^{+12.5}_{-\;\,9.8})\times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}_{q^2\bar q^2}(D_s^+\to σ_0 e^+ν_e,σ_0\toπ^+π^-) =(1.5^{+2.4}_{-1.3})\times 10^{-4}$ are predicted to deviate far from each other, useful for a clear experimental investigation.

In our classification, the measured $\bar B^0\to p\bar p p\bar p$ decay is a tree dominated process via internal $W$-boson emission, whose branching fraction is explained as small as $2.2\times 10^{-8}$. We investigate for the first time the phenomenology of other tree and penguin dominated $B\to{\bf B_1\bar B'_1 B_2\bar B'_2}$ decays, and predict the presence of a double threshold effect, manifested as two peaks around $m_{\bf B_1\bar B'_1}\sim m_{\bf B_1}+m_{\bf\bar B'_1}$ and $m_{\bf B_2\bar B'_2}\sim m_{\bf B_2}+m_{\bf\bar B'_2}$ in the invariant mass spectra of ${\bf B_1\bar B'_1}$ and ${\bf B_2\bar B'_2}$, respectively. In recent years, scientific Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (sCMOS) devices have been increasingly applied in X-ray detection, thanks to their attributes such as high frame rate, low dark current, high radiation tolerance and low readout noise. We tested the basic performance of a backside-illuminated (BSI) sCMOS sensor, which has a small pixel size of 6.5 um * 6.5 um. At a temperature of -20C, The readout noise is 1.6 e, the dark current is 0.5 e/pixel/s, and the energy resolution reaches 204.6 eV for single-pixel events. The effect of depletion depth on the sensor's performance was also examined, using three versions of the sensors with different deletion depths. We found that the sensor with a deeper depletion region can achieve a better energy resolution for events of all types of pixel splitting patterns, and has a higher efficiency in collecting photoelectrons produced by X-ray photons. We further study the effect of depletion depth on charge diffusion with a center-of-gravity (CG) model. Based on this work, a highly depleted sCMOS is recommended for applications of soft X-ray spectroscop.

For the two-body ${\bf B}_c\to{\bf B}M$ decays, where ${\bf B}_c$ denotes the anti-triplet charm baryon and ${\bf B}(M)$ the octet baryon (meson), there exist two theoretical studies based on the $SU(3)$ flavor [$SU(3)_f$] symmetry. One is the irreducible $SU(3)_f$ approach (IRA). In the irreducible $SU(3)_f$ representation, the effective Hamiltonian related to the initial and final states forms the amplitudes for ${\bf B}_c\to{\bf B}M$. The other is the topological-diagram approach (TDA), where the $W$-boson emission and $W$-boson exchange topologies are drawn and parameterized for the decays. As required by the group theoretical consideration, we present the same number of the IRA and TDA amplitudes. We can hence relate the two kinds of the amplitudes, and demonstrate the equivalence of the two $SU(3)_f$ approaches. We find a specific $W$-boson exchange topology only contributing to $Ξ_c^0\to{\bf B}M$. Denoted by $E_M$, it plays a key role in explaining ${\cal B}(Ξ_c^0\to Λ^0 K_S^0,Σ^0 K_S^0,Σ^+ K^-)$. We consider that $Λ_c^+ \to n π^+$ and $Λ_c^+ \to pπ^0$ proceed through the constructive and destructive interfering effects, respectively, which leads to ${\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to n π^+)\gg{\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to pπ^0)$ in agreement with the data. With the exact and broken $SU(3)_f$ symmetries, we predict the branching fractions of ${\bf B}_c\to{\bf B}M$ to be tested by future measurements.

The previous values for ${\cal B}_ρ/{\cal B}_π$ have been found to deviate from the most recent observation. Nonetheless, our ${\cal B}_ρ/{\cal B}_π=2.8\pm 0.4$ is able to alleviate the deviation. Moreover, we obtain ${\cal B}_e/{\cal B}_π=1.1\pm 0.2$, which is consistent with the current data.

Baryons with a heavy c-quark or a heavy b-quark and also two c-quarks have been discovered. These states are expected in QCD and therefore provide a test for the theory. There should be double beauty baryons, and also an intriguing possibility that baryons ${\bf B}_{bc}$ with a c-quark, a b-quark. These states are yet to be discovered. The main decay modes of ${\bf B}_{bc}$ are expected to be weak processes from theoretical understanding of their mass spectrum. These decay modes can provide crucial information about these heavy baryons ${\bf B}_{bc}$. We analyze two body hadronic weak decays for ${\bf B}_{bc}$ using $SU(3)$ flavor symmetry. Any one of the $c$ and $b$ decays will induce ${\bf B}_{bc}$ to decay. We find that the Cabibbo allowed decays ${\bf B}_{bc} \to {\bf B}_b + M$ due to $c \to s u \bar d$ can be crucial for exploration. The LHC may have the sensitivity to discover such decays. Other ${\bf B}_{bc}$ decays due to $b \to c q' \bar q$ are sub-leading. Several relations among branching ratios are obtained which can be used to test $SU(3)$ flavor symmetry.

Besides, we take into account the $SU(3)$ flavor symmetry breaking, in order to explain the observation of ${\cal B}(Λ_c^+\to Σ^{*+}η)$. For the decays involving $Δ^{++}(uuu)$, we predict ${\cal B}(Λ_c^+\to Δ^{++} π^-,Ξ_c^+ \to Δ^{++} K^-) =(7.0\pm 1.4,13.5\pm 2.7)\times 10^{-4}$ as the largest branching fractions in the singly Cabibbo-suppressed $Λ_c^+,Ξ_c^+\to{\bf B}^*M$ decay channels, respectively, which are accessible to the LHCb, BELLEII and BESIII experiments.

The observation of CP violation has been experimentally verified in numerous $B$ decays but is yet to be confirmed in final states with half-spin particles. We focus our attention on baryonic $B$-meson decays mediated dominantly through internal $W$-emission processes and show that they are promising processes to observe for the first time the CP violating effects in $B$ decays to final states with half-spin particles. Specifically, we study the $\bar B^0\to p\bar pπ^0(ρ^0)$ and $\bar B^0\to p\bar pπ^+π^-$ decays. We obtain ${\cal B}(\bar B^0\to p\bar pπ^0)=(5.0\pm 2.1)\times 10^{-7}$, in agreement with current data, and ${\cal B}(\bar B^0\to p\bar pρ^0)\simeq {\cal B}(\bar B^0\to p\bar pπ^0)/3$. Furthermore, we find ${\cal A}_{CP}(\bar B^0\to p\bar pπ^0,p\bar pρ^0,p\bar pπ^+π^-) =(-16.8\pm 5.4,-12.6\pm 3.0,-11.4\pm 1.9)\%$. With measured branching fractions ${\cal B}(\bar B^0\to p\bar pπ^0,p\bar pπ^+π^-)\sim {\cal O}(10^{-6})$, we point out that ${\cal A}_{CP}\sim -(10-20)\%$ can be new observables for CP violation, accessible to the Belle~II and/or LHCb experiments.

We show that charmful two-body baryonic $B\to {\bf B}_c \bar {\bf B}'$ decays provide a good test-bed for the study of the $W$-exchange topology, whose contribution is found to be non-negligible; here ${\bf B}_c$ is an anti-triplet or a sextet charmed baryon, and ${\bf \bar B}'$ an octet charmless (anti-)baryon. In particular, we calculate that ${\cal B}(\bar B^0\toΣ_c^{+}\bar p)=(2.9^{+0.8}_{-0.9})\times 10^{-6}$ in good agreement with the experimental upper bound. Its cousin $\bar B_s^0$ mode, $\bar B_s^0\toΛ^+_c\bar p$, is a purely $W$-exchange decay, hence is naturally suited for the study of the role of the $W$-exchange topology. We predict ${\cal B}(\bar B_s^0\toΛ^+_c\bar p)=(0.8\pm 0.3)\times 10^{-6}$, a relatively large branching ratio to be tested with a future measurement by the LHCb collaboration. Other predictions, such as ${\cal B}(\bar B^0\toΞ_c^+\barΣ^-)=(1.1\pm 0.4)\times 10^{-5}$, can be tested with future Belle II measurements.

We study the three-body anti-triplet ${\bf B_c}\to {\bf B_n}MM'$ decays with the $SU(3)$ flavor ($SU(3)_f$) symmetry, where ${\bf B_c}$ denotes the charmed baryon anti-triplet of $(Ξ_c^0,-Ξ_c^+,Λ_c^+)$, and ${\bf B_n}$ and $M(M')$ represent baryon and meson octets, respectively. By considering only the S-wave $MM'$-pair contributions without resonance effects, the decays of ${\bf B_c}\to {\bf B_n}MM'$ can be decomposed into irreducible forms with 11 parameters under $SU(3)_f$, which are fitted by the 14 existing data, resulting in a reasonable value of $χ^2/d.o.f=2.8$ for the fit. Consequently, we find that the triangle sum rule of ${\cal A}(Λ_c^+\to n\bar K^0 π^+)-{\cal A}(Λ_c^+\to pK^- π^+)-\sqrt 2 {\cal A}(Λ_c^+\to p\bar K^0 π^0)=0$ given by the isospin symmetry holds under $SU(3)_f$, where ${\cal A}$ stands for the decay amplitude. In addition, we predict that ${\cal B}(Λ_c^+\to n π^{+} \bar{K}^{0})=(0.9\pm 0.8)\times 10^{-2}$, which is $3-4$ times smaller than the BESIII observation, indicating the existence of the resonant states. For the to-be-observed ${\bf B_c}\to {\bf B_n}MM'$ decays, we compute the branching fractions with the $SU(3)_f$ amplitudes to be compared to the BESIII and LHCb measurements in the future.

Differences in the behaviour of matter and antimatter are associated with the non-invariance of fundamental interactions under the combined charge-conjugation and parity transformations, known as $C\!P$ violation. We discuss purely baryonic decay processes, i.e. decay processes involving only spin-carrying particles. They are yet unexplored elementary processes. Their study opens a new chapter of flavour physics in the route towards a better understanding of $C\!P$ violation. It may help us to understand the observed matter and antimatter asymmetry of the Universe.

In our discussion, while the main contribution to $Λ_b\to K^-J/ψp$ is from the non-perturbative process via the doubly charmful $b\to c\bar cs$ transition, we propose that the $Λ_b\to {\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to J/ψp$ transitions are partly contribute to the $Λ_b\to K^-({\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to)J/ψp$ decays, in which the required $c\bar c$ pair is formed by the sea quarks, intrinsic charm, or both. We predict that ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to J/ψp \ell^-\bar ν_\ell)=(2.04^{+4.82}_{-1.57},1.75^{+4.14}_{-1.35})\times 10^{-6}$ for $\ell=(e,μ)$, which are about two orders of magnitude smaller than the observed decay of $Λ_b\to pμ\bar ν_μ$. We also explore the angular correlations for the $J/ψp$ and $\ell^-\bar ν_\ell$ pairs. Our results of the decay branching ratios and angular asymmetries in $Λ_b\to J/ψp \ell^-\bar ν_\ell$, accessible to the ongoing experiments at the LHCb, can be used to improve the understanding of the hidden charm pentaquark states.

Explicitly, we find $|V_{cb}|=(44.0\pm 3.5)\times 10^{-3}$, which agrees with the value of $(42.11\pm 0.74)\times 10^{-3}$ from the inclusive $B\to X_c\ell\bar ν_\ell$ decays. Furthermore, based on the most recent ratio of $|V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}|$ from the exclusive $Λ_b$ decays, we obtain $|V_{ub}|=(4.2\pm 0.4)\times 10^{-3}$, which is close to the value of $(4.49\pm 0.24)\times 10^{-3}$ from the inclusive $B\to X_u\ell\bar ν_\ell$ decays. We conclude that our determinations of $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$ from the exclusive $Λ_b$ decays favor the inclusive extractions in the $B$ decays.

Though not considered in general, purely baryonic decays could shed light on the puzzle of the baryon number asymmetry in the universe by means of a better understanding of the baryonic nature of our matter world. As such, they constitute a yet unexplored class of decay processes worth investigating. We propose to search for purely baryonic decay processes at the LHCb experiment. No such type of decay has ever been observed. In particular, we concentrate on the decay $Λ_b^0\to p\bar pn$, which is the simplest purely baryonic decay mode, with solely spin-1/2 baryons involved. We predict its decay branching ratio to be ${\cal B}(Λ_b^0\to p\bar pn)=(2.0^{+0.3}_{-0.2})\times 10^{-6}$, which is sufficiently large to make the decay mode accessible to LHCb. Our study can be extended to other purely baryonic decays such as $Λ_b^0\to p\bar p Λ$ and $Λ_b^0\to Λ\bar ΛΛ$, as well as to similar decays of anti-triplet $b$-baryons such as $Ξ_b^{0,-}$.

Future precise explorations of these angular correlations at BELLE and LHCb as well as super-BELLE are important to justify the present factorization approach in the charmful three-body baryonic decays.

Besides confirming information on $B_{u,d} \to PP$ decays obtained earlier by B-factories at KEK and SLAC, new information on $B_s\to PP$ and also more decay modes with $P$ being $η$ or $η'$ have been obtained. Using these new data, we perform a global fit for $B \to PP$ to determine decay amplitudes in the framework of $SU(3)/U(3)$ flavor symmetry. We find that $SU(3)$ flavor symmetry can explain data well. The annihilation amplitudes are found to be small as expected. Several CP violating relations predicted by $SU(3)$ flavor symmetry are in good agreement with data. Current available data can give constraints on the amplitudes which induce $P = η,\;η'$ decays in the framework of $U(3)$ flavor symmetry, and can also determine the $η-η'$ mixing angle $θ$ with $θ= (-18.4\pm1.2)^\circ$. Several $B \to PP$ decay modes which have not been measured are predicted with branching ratios accessible at the LHCb. These decays can provide further tests for the framework of $SU(3)/U(3)$ flavor symmetry for $B$ decays.

Being independent of the previous results, our determination of $|V_{ub}|$ has the central value close to those from the exclusive $\bar B\to π\ell\bar ν_\ell$ and $Λ_b\to pμ^-\bar ν_μ$ decays, but overlaps the one from the inclusive $\bar B\to X_u \ell\bar ν_\ell$ with the current uncertainties. The extraction of $|V_{ub}|$ in the baryonic $B$ decays is clearly very useful for the complete determination of the CKM matrix elements as well as the exploration of new physics.

Abstract:
We study the fragmentation fractions $(f_{{\bf B}_b})$ of the $b$-quark to b-baryons (${\bf B}_b$). By the assumption of $f_{Λ_b}/(f_u+f_d)=0.25\pm 0.15$ in accordance with the measurements by LEP, CDF and LHCb Collaborations, we estimate that $f_{Λ_b}=0.175\pm 0.106$ and $f_{Ξ_b^{-,0}}=0.019\pm 0.013$. The predictions of ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to J/ψΛ)$ and ${\cal B}(Ξ_b^-\to J/ψΞ^-)$ clearly enable us to test the theoretical models, such as the QCD factorization approach in the $b$-baryon decays.

We study the three-body $Λ_b$ decays of $Λ_b\to J/ψpM$ with $M=K^-$ and $π^-$. The two new states ${\cal P}_{c1}\equiv {\cal P}_c(4380)^+$ and ${\cal P}_{c2}\equiv {\cal P}_c(4450)^+$ observed recently as the resonances in the $J/ψp$ invariant mass spectrum of $Λ_b\to J/ψp K^-$ can be identified to consist of five quarks, $uudc\bar c$, being consistent with the existence of the pentaquark states.…

The two new states ${\cal P}_{c1}\equiv {\cal P}_c(4380)^+$ and ${\cal P}_{c2}\equiv {\cal P}_c(4450)^+$ observed recently as the resonances in the $J/ψp$ invariant mass spectrum of $Λ_b\to J/ψp K^-$ can be identified to consist of five quarks, $uudc\bar c$, being consistent with the existence of the pentaquark states. We argue that, in the doubly charmful $Λ_b$ decays of $Λ_b\to J/ψpK^-$ through $b\to c\bar c s$, apart from those through the non-resonant $Λ_b\to pK^-$ and resonant $Λ_b\to Λ^*\to pK^-$ transitions, the third contribution with the non-factorizable effects is not the dominant part for the resonant $Λ_b\to K^-{\cal P}_{c1,c2}, {\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to J/ψp$ processes, such that we propose that the ${\cal P}_{c1,c2}$ productions are mainly from the charmless $Λ_b$ decays through $b\to \bar u u s$, in which the $c\bar c$ content in ${\cal P}_{c1,c2}$ arises from the intrinsic charms within the $Λ_b$ baryon. We hence predict the observables related to the branching ratios and the direct CP violating asymmetries to be ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to π^-({\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to) J/ψp)/{\cal B}(Λ_b\to K^-({\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to) J/ψp)=0.8\pm 0.1$, ${\cal A}_{CP}(Λ_b\to π^-({\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to)J/ψp)=(-3.9\pm 0.2)\%$, and ${\cal A}_{CP}(Λ_b\to K^-({\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to)J/ψp)=(5.8\pm 0.2)\%$, which can alleviate the inconsistency between the theoretical expectations from the three contributions in the doubly charmful $Λ_b$ decays and the observed data.

For $Λ_b\to ( p K^{*-},\, pρ^-)$, the decay branching ratios and CPVs in the SM are predicted to be $(2.5\pm0.5,\,11.4\pm2.1)\times 10^{-6}$ with ${\cal R}_{ρK^*}=4.6\pm0.5$ and $(19.6\pm1.6,\, -3.7\pm0.3)\%$, respectively. The uncertainties for the CPAs in these decay modes as well as ${\cal R}_{πK,\,ρK^{*-}}$ mainly arise from the quark mixing elements and non-factorizable effects, whereas those from the hadronic matrix elements are either totally eliminated or small. We point out that the large CPA for $Λ_b\to p K^{*-}$ is promising to be measured by the CDF and LHCb experiments, which is a clean test of the SM.

We demonstrate that the contributions of $B^-\to Λ\bar p$, $B^-\to Σ^0 \bar p$ and $\bar B^0_s\to Λ\bar Λ$ are mainly from the scalar and pseudoscalar currents with their branching ratios predicted to be around $(3.5,\,5.3,\,5.3)\times 10^{-8}$, respectively, exactly the sizes of ${\cal B}(B\to {\bf B\bar B'})$ established by the data. We also apply the annihilation mechanism to all of the charmless two-body baryonic $B$ and $D_s$ decays. In particular, we can explain ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_{(s)}\to p\bar p)$ of order $10^{-8}$ and ${\cal B}(D_s^+\to p\bar n)$ of order $10^{-3}$, which are from the axial-vector currents. In addition, the branching ratios of $\bar B^0\to Λ\bar Λ$, $B^-\to n\bar p$, and $B^-\to Σ^- \barΣ^0$ are predicted to be $(0.3,\,3.2,\,9.6)\times 10^{-8}$, which can be measured by LHCb and viewed as tests for the violation of PCAC at the GeV scale.

Suspecting that the peak is a resonance, which can be neither identified as a charmonium state, such as $η_c$ or $J/ψ$, nor classified as one of the light-flavor mesons, we conclude that it corresponds to a glueball fitted as X(3020) with $(m_X,\;Γ_X)=(3020\pm 8,\; 107\pm 30)\;\text{MeV}$, which could be the first glueball state above 3 GeV.
