The dual-phase xenon time-projection chamber is the leading technology to cover the available parameter space for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs), while featuring extensive sensitivity to many alternative dark matter candidates. A next-generation xenon-based detector will therefore be a true multi-purpose observatory to significantly advance particle physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics, solar physics, and cosmology. Abstract: We report results from a study of hadronic transitions of the $χ_{bJ}(nP)$ states of bottomonium at Belle. The $P$-wave states are reconstructed in transitions to the $Υ(1S)$ with the emission of an $ω$ meson. Influence of NaI background and mass on testing the DAMA modulation

Abstract: We present here the model dependent and independent sensitivity studies for NaI detectors designed to test the DAMA result, and compare the predicted limits from SABRE with the present performance of both ANAIS and COSINE. We find that the strongest discovery and exclusion limits are set by a detector with the lowest background (assuming equal run times), and also note that our method correctly computes the present exclusion limits previously published by ANAIS and COSINE. In particular, with a target mass of 50 kg and background rate of 0.36 cpd/kg/keV (after veto), SABRE will be able to exclude the DAMA signal with 3$σ$ confidence or `discover' it with 5$σ$ confidence within 2 years. This strongly motivates the quest for ever lower backgrounds in NaI detectors. △ Less

Penguin transitions are sensitive to Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics scenarios and could affect the branching fractions and {\it CP} asymmetries in such decays. In heavy-ion collisions, the hydrodynamic expansion of the Quark-Gluon Plasma is one of the possible explanations of the origin of the ridge signal. Measurements in the $e^+e^-$ collision system, without the complexities introduced by hadron structure in the initial state, can serve as a complementary probe to examine the formation of a ridge signal. The first measurement of two-particle angular correlation functions in high multiplicity $e^+e^-$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=10.52$ GeV is reported. The hadronic $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected by the Belle detector at KEKB are used in this study. Two-particle angular correlation functions are measured over the full azimuth and large pseudorapidity intervals which are defined by either the electron beam axis or the event thrust as a function of charged particle multiplicity. The measurement in the event thrust analysis, with mostly outgoing quark pairs determining the reference axis, is sensitive to the region of additional soft gluon emissions. No significant ridge signal is observed with either coordinates analyses. Near side jet correlations appear to be absent in the thrust axis analysis. The measurements are compared to predictions from various event generators and expected to provide new constraints to the phenomenological models in the low energy regime. △ Less

The measured values are $\mathcal{R}(D)= 0.307 \pm 0.037 \pm 0.016$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast})= 0.283 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.014$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions within $0.2$ and $1.1$ standard deviations, respectively, while their combination agrees with the Standard Model predictions within $1.2$ standard deviations. △ Less

Abstract: The discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, by the ATLAS and CMS experiments, was a success achieved with only a percent of the entire dataset foreseen for the LHC. It opened a landscape of possibilities in the study of Higgs boson properties, Electroweak Symmetry breaking and the Standard Model in general, as well as new avenues in probing new physics beyond the Standard Model. Six years after the… ▽ More The discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, by the ATLAS and CMS experiments, was a success achieved with only a percent of the entire dataset foreseen for the LHC. It opened a landscape of possibilities in the study of Higgs boson properties, Electroweak Symmetry breaking and the Standard Model in general, as well as new avenues in probing new physics beyond the Standard Model. Six years after the discovery, with a conspicuously larger dataset collected during LHC Run 2 at a 13 TeV centre-of-mass energy, the theory and experimental particle physics communities have started a meticulous exploration of the potential for precision measurements of its properties. This includes studies of Higgs boson production and decays processes, the search for rare decays and production modes, high energy observables, and searches for an extended electroweak symmetry breaking sector. This report summarises the potential reach and opportunities in Higgs physics during the High Luminosity phase of the LHC, with an expected dataset of pp collisions at 14 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 ab$^{-1}$. These studies are performed in light of the most recent analyses from LHC collaborations and the latest theoretical developments. The potential of an LHC upgrade, colliding protons at a centre-of-mass energy of 27 TeV and producing a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 15 ab$^{-1}$, is also discussed. △ Less

The experiment is currently in a Proof-of-Principle (PoP) phase, whose goal… ▽ More SABRE (Sodium-iodide with Active Background REjection) is a direct dark matter search experiment based on an array of radio-pure NaI(Tl) crystals surrounded by a liquid scintillator veto. The experiment is currently in a Proof-of-Principle (PoP) phase, whose goal is to demonstrate that the background rate is low enough to carry out an independent search for a dark matter signal, with sufficient sensitivity to confirm or refute the DAMA result during the following full-scale experimental phase. The impact of background radiation from the detector materials and the experimental site needs to be carefully investigated, including both intrinsic and cosmogenically activated radioactivity. Based on the best knowledge of the most relevant sources of background, we have performed a detailed Monte Carlo study evaluating the expected background in the dark matter search spectral region. The SABRE experiment aims to carry out an independent search with sufficient sensitivity to confirm or refute the DAMA claim. The SABRE concept and goal is to obtain a background rate of the order of 0.1 cpd/kg/keVee in the energy region of interest. This challenging goal is achievable by operating high-purity crystals inside a liquid scintillator veto for active background rejection. In addition, twin detectors will be located in the northern and southern hemispheres to identify possible contributions to the modulation from seasonal or site-related effects. The SABRE project includes an initial Proof-of-Principle phase at LNGS (Italy), to assess the radio-purity of the crystals and the efficiency of the liquid scintillator veto. The products of the two-photon decay width and branching fraction (B) of decays to eta'pi+ pi- are determined to be Γ_{gamma gamma}B = [65.4\pm2.6~(stat.)\pm6.9~(syst.)] eV for eta_c(1S) and [5.6^{+1.2}_{-1.1}~(stat.)\pm1.1~(syst.)] eV for eta_c(2S). A new decay mode for the eta_c(1S) to eta'f_0(2080) with f_0(2080) to pi+ pi- is observed with a statistical significance of 20sigma. The f_0(2080) mass and width are determined to be M = [2083^{+63}_{-66}~(stat.)\pm 32~(syst.)] MeV/c^{2} and Γ= [178^{+60}_{-178}~(stat.) \pm 55~(syst.)] MeV. Abstract: We report the result of a search for the decay $B^{-}\toμ^{-}\barν_μ$. The signal events are selected based on the presence of a high momentum muon and the topology of the rest of the event showing properties of a generic $B$-meson decay, as well as the missing energy and momentum being consistent with the hypothesis of a neutrino from the signal decay. Abstract: Using the entire Belle data sample of 980 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collisions, we present the results of a study of excited $Ω_c$ charmed baryons in the decay mode $Ξ_c^+K^-$. We show confirmation of four of the five narrow states reported by the LHCb Collaboration: the $Ω_c(3000)$ , $Ω_c(3050)$, $Ω_c(3066)$, and $Ω_c(3090)$. These represent the most stringent upper limit for ${\cal B}(B^{+} \to X(3872) K^{+} )$ to date and the first measurement for ${\cal B}(B^{+} \to X(3915) K^{+} )$. The measured branching fractions for $η_{c}$ and $η_{c}(2S)$ are the most precise to date: ${\cal B}(B^{+} \to η_{c} K^{+} )=(12.3\pm0.8\pm0.7) \times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(B^{+} \to η_{c}(2S)K^{+}) =(4.9\pm1.1\pm0.3) \times 10^{-4}$ , where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. △ Less

Among the production cross sections of charmed baryons, a factor of three difference for $Λ_c^+$ states over $Σ_c$ states is observed. The obtained branching fraction and direct $CP$ asymmetry are $ \mathcal{B}(B\to π^{0}π^{0}) = [1.31 \pm 0.19~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.19~ \text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-6}$ and $ A_{CP} = +0.14 \pm 0.36~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.10~ \text{(syst.)}, $ respectively. The signal significance, including the systematic uncertainty, is 6.4 standard deviations. We combine these results with Belle's earlier measurements of $B^{0}\to π^{+} π^{-}$ and $B^{\pm} \to π^{\pm} π^{0}$ to exclude the $CP$-violating parameter $φ_{2}$ from the range $15.5^{\circ} < φ_{2} < 75.0^{\circ}$ at 95\% confidence level. △ Less

Abstract: We perform a full amplitude analysis of the process $e^+ e^- \rightarrow J/ψD \bar{D}$, where $D$ refers to either $D^0$ or $D^+$. A new charmoniumlike state $X^*(3860)$ that decays to $D \bar{D}$ is observed with a significance of $6.5σ$. We measure the total branching fraction $\mathcal{B}( \bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell ) = \left(4.95 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.22 \right) \times 10^{-2}$, where the errors are statistical and systematic respectively. The value of $\left|V_{cb} \right|$ is determined to be $\left( 37.4 \pm 1.3 \right) \times 10^{-3}$. Both results are in good agreement with current world averages. △ Less

Abstract: We report a measurement of the time-integrated $CP$ asymmetry in the neutral charm meson decay $D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S$ using 921~fb$^{-1}$ data collected at the $Υ(4S)$ and $Υ(5S)$ resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. Abstract: We report a study of radiative decays of χ_{bJ}(1P)(J=0,1,2) mesons into 74 hadronic final states comprising charged and neutral pions, kaons, protons; out of these, 41 modes are observed with at least 5 standard deviation significance. Our measurements not only improve the previous measurements by the CLEO Collaboration but also lead to first observations in many new modes. We select a sample of $B^0 \bar{B}^0$ pairs by reconstructing both $B$ mesons in semileptonic decays to $D^{*\mp} \ell^{\pm}$. We measure ${\cal R}(D^*)= 0.302 \pm 0.030({\rm stat)} \pm 0.011({\rm syst)}$, which is within $1.6 σ$ of the Standard Model theoretical expectation, where $σ$ is the standard deviation including systematic uncertainties. △ Less
