Observation of $ψ(3686) \to n\bar{n}$ and improved measurement of $ψ(3686) \to p \bar{p}$

Abstract: We observe the decay $ψ(3686) \to n \bar{n}$ for the first time and measure $ψ(3686) \to p \bar{p}$ with improved accuracy by using $1.07\times 10^8$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector. The measured branching fractions are $\mathcal{B}(ψ(3686) \to n \bar{n}) = (3.06 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.14)\times 10^{-4}$ and… ▽ More We observe the decay $ψ(3686) \to n \bar{n}$ for the first time and measure $ψ(3686) \to p \bar{p}$ with improved accuracy by using $1.07\times 10^8$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector. The measured branching fractions are $\mathcal{B}(ψ(3686) \to n \bar{n}) = (3.06 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.14)\times 10^{-4}$ and $\mathcal{B}(ψ(3686) \to p \bar{p}) = (3.05 \pm 0.02 \pm 0.12) \times 10^{-4}$. Here, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. With the hypothesis that the polar angular distributions of the neutron and proton in the center-of-mass system obey $1+α\cos^2θ$, we determine the $α$ parameters to be $α_{n\bar{n}} = 0.68 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.11$ and $α_{p\bar{p}} = 1.03 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.03$ for $ψ(3686)\to n\bar{n}$ and $ψ(3686)\to p\bar{p}$, respectively. △ Less

Study of $η(1475)$ and $X(1835)$ in radiative $J/ψ$ decays to $γφ$

Abstract: The decay $J/ψ\rightarrow γγφ$ is studied using a sample of $1.31 \times10^{9}$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector. Two structures around 1475 MeV/c$^2$ and 1835 MeV/c$^2$ are observed in the $γφ$ invariant mass spectrum for the first time. With a fit on the $γφ$ invariant mass, which takes into account the interference between the two structures, and a simple analysis of the angular… ▽ More The decay $J/ψ\rightarrow γγφ$ is studied using a sample of $1.31 \times10^{9}$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector. The Born cross section is measured at $\sqrt{s}$=2.2324 GeV, which is 1.0 MeV above the $Λ\barΛ$ mass threshold, to be $305\pm45^{+66}_{-36}$ pb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second system… ▽ More The process $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ$ is studied using data samples at $\sqrt{s}=2.2324$, 2.400, 2.800 and 3.080 GeV collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. Observation of $e^+ e^- \to ηY(2175)$ at center-of-mass energies above 3.7$\sim$GeV

Abstract: The state $Y(2175)$ is observed in the process $e^+ e^- \to ηY(2175)$ at center-of-mass energies between 3.7 and 4.6$\sim$GeV with a statistical significance larger than $10σ$ using data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. This is the first observation of the $Y(2175)$ in this process. The mass and width of the $Y(2175)$ are determined to be ($2135\pm 8\pm 9$)~… ▽ More The state $Y(2175)$ is observed in the process $e^+ e^- \to ηY(2175)$ at center-of-mass energies between 3.7 and 4.6$\sim$GeV with a statistical significance larger than $10σ$ using data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. This is the first observation of the $Y(2175)$ in this process. The mass and width of the $Y(2175)$ are determined to be ($2135\pm 8\pm 9$)~MeV/$c^2$ and ($104\pm 24\pm 12$)~MeV, respectively, and the production cross section of $e^+ e^- \to ηY(2175)\to ηφf_{0}(980)\to ηφπ^+ π^-$ is at a several hundred femtobarn level. No significant signal for the process $e^+ e^- \to η' Y(2175)$ is observed and the upper limit on $σ(e^+ e^- \to η' Y(2175))/σ(e^+ e^- \to ηY(2175))$ is estimated to be 0.43 at the 90\% confidence level. We also search for $ψ(3686) \to ηY(2175)$. No significant signal is observed, indicating a strong suppression relative to the corresponding $J/ψ$ decay, in violation of the "12\% rule." △ Less

Determination of the number of $ψ(3686)$ events at BESIII

Measurement of the integrated luminosity and the center-of-mass energy of the data taken by BESIII at $\sqrt{s} = 2.125$ GeV

Abstract: To study the nature of the state $Y(2175)$, a dedicated data set of $e^+e^-$ collision data was collected at the center-of-mass energy of 2.125 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Abstract: Using a data set of 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ taken at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we perform a search for an extra U(1) gauge boson, also denoted as a dark photon. We examine the initial state radiation reactions $e^+e^-\rightarrow e^+e^-γ_{\rm ISR}$ and $e^+e^-\rightarrow μ^+μ^-γ_{\rm ISR}$ for this search, where the dark photon would appe… ▽ More Using a data set of 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ taken at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we perform a search for an extra U(1) gauge boson, also denoted as a dark photon. Significant signals are observed at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=4.226$ GeV, and the Born cross section is measured to be $(9.5^{+2.2}_{-2.0} \pm 2.7)$ pb. Abstract: Using 2.93~fb$^{-1}$ of data taken at 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider, we study the semileptonic decays $D^+ \to \bar K^0e^+ν_e$ and $D^+ \to π^0 e^+ν_e$. We measure the absolute decay branching fractions $\mathcal B(D^+ \to \bar K^0e^+ν_e)=(8.60\pm0.06\pm 0.15)\times10^{-2}$ and $\mathcal B(D^+ \to π^0e^+ν_e)=(3.63\pm0.08\pm0.05)\times10^{-3}$, where the first u… ▽ More Using 2.93~fb$^{-1}$ of data taken at 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider, we study the semileptonic decays $D^+ \to \bar K^0e^+ν_e$ and $D^+ \to π^0 e^+ν_e$. We measure the absolute decay branching fractions $\mathcal B(D^+ \to \bar K^0e^+ν_e)=(8.60\pm0.06\pm 0.15)\times10^{-2}$ and $\mathcal B(D^+ \to π^0e^+ν_e)=(3.63\pm0.08\pm0.05)\times10^{-3}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. We also measure the differential decay rates and study the form factors of these two decays. With the values of $|V_{cs}|$ and $|V_{cd}|$ from Particle Data Group fits assuming CKM unitarity, we obtain the values of the form factors at $q^2=0$, $f^K_+(0) = 0.725\pm0.004\pm 0.012$ and $f^π_+(0) = 0.622\pm0.012\pm 0.003$. Taking input from recent lattice QCD calculations of these form factors, we determine values of the CKM matrix elements $|V_{cs}|=0.944 \pm 0.005 \pm 0.015 \pm 0.024$ and $|V_{cd}|=0.210 \pm 0.004 \pm 0.001 \pm 0.009$, where the third uncertainties are theoretical. △ Less

The measured Born cross sections for $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3686)$ are consistent with previous results, but with much improved precision. A fit to the… ▽ More We study the process $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3686)$ using 5.1 $fb^{-1}$ of data collected at 16 center-of-mass energy ($\sqrt{s}$) points from 4.008 to 4.600$\sim$GeV by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The measured Born cross sections for $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3686)$ are consistent with previous results, but with much improved precision. A fit to the cross section shows contributions from two structures: the first has $M=4209.5\pm7.4\pm1.4$$\sim$MeV/$c^{2}$ and $Γ=80.1\pm24.6\pm2.9$$\sim$MeV, and the second has $M=4383.8\pm4.2\pm0.8$$\sim$MeV/c$^{2}$ and $Γ=84.2\pm12.5\pm2.1$$\sim$MeV, where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. The lower-mass resonance is observed in the process $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3686)$ for the first time with a statistical significance of $5.8σ$. A charged charmonium-like structure is observed in the $π^{\pm}ψ(3686)$ invariant mass spectrum for data at $\sqrt{s} = 4.416~$GeV. A fit with an $S$-wave Breit-Wigner function yields a mass $M=4032.1\pm2.4$~$MeV$^{2}$, where the errors are statistical only. However, there are still unresolved discrepancies between the fit model and data. The width of the intermediate state varies in a wide range for different kinematic regions within the data set. Therefore no simple interpretation of the data has been found, and a future data sample with larger statistics and more theoretical input will be required to better understand this issue. △ Less

Abstract: Using 106~million $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we measure multipole amplitudes for the decay $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγχ_{c1,2}\toγγJ/ψ$ beyond the dominant electric-dipole amplitudes. The normalized magnetic-quadrupole amplitude for $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγχ_{c1,2}\rightarrowγγJ/ψ$ and the normalized electric-octupole amplitudes for $ψ(3686)rightarrowγχ_{c2}$,~… ▽ More Using 106~million $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we measure multipole amplitudes for the decay $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγχ_{c1,2}\toγγJ/ψ$ beyond the dominant electric-dipole amplitudes. We also obtain the ratios of M2 contributions of $ψ(3686)$ and $J/ψ$ decays to $χ_{c1,2}$, $b_{2}^{1}/b_{2}^{2} = 1.35\pm0.72$ and $a_{2}^{1}/a_{2}^{2} = 0.617\pm0.083$, which agree well with theoretical expectations. By considering the multipole contributions of $χ_{c1,2}$, we measure the product branching fractions for the cascade decays $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγχ_{c0,1,2}\toγγJ/ψ$ and search for the process $η_{c}(2S)\toγJ/ψ$ through $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγη_{c}(2S)$. The product branching fraction for $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγχ_{c0}\toγγJ/ψ$ is 3$σ$ larger than published measurements, while those of $ψ(3686)rightarrowγχ_{c1,2}\toγγJ/ψ$ are consistent. No significant signal for the decay $ψ(3686)\toγη_c(2S)\toγγJ/ψ$ is observed, and the upper limit of the product branching fraction at the 90\% confidence level is determined. △ Less

In addition, the "12\% rule" and isospin symmetry in the $J/ψ$ and $ψ(3686)\rightarrowΞ\barΞ$ and $Σ(1385)\barΣ(1385)$ systems are tested. △ Less

Here $K^{\ast}\overline{K}$ denotes both $K^{\ast\pm}K^{\mp}$ and $K^{\ast 0}\overline{K}{}^{0}+c.c.$, and $K^{\ast}$ denotes the resonances $K^{\ast}(892)$, $K^{\ast}_{2}(1430)$ and $K^{\ast}_{3}(1780)$. The observations indicate a strong violation of the helicity selection rule in $χ_{c2}$ decays into vector and pseudoscalar meson pairs. The measured branching fractions of $χ_{c2}\to K^{\ast}(892)\overline{K}$ are more than 10 times larger than the upper limit of $χ_{c2}\to ρ(770)^{\pm}π^{\mp}$, which is so far the first direct observation of a significant $U$-spin symmetry breaking effect in charmonium decays. △ Less

Two resonant structures are observed in a fit to the cross section. The first resonance has a mass of $(4222.0\pm 3.1\pm 1.4)$~MeV/$c^2$ and a width of $(44.1\pm 4.3\pm 2.0)$~MeV, while the second one has a mass of $(4320.0\pm 10.4 \pm 7.0)$~MeV/$c^2$ and a width of $(101.4^{+25.3}_{-19.7}\pm 10.2)$~MeV, where the first errors are statistical and second ones are systematic. The first resonance agrees with the $Y(4260)$ resonance reported by previous experiments. The precision of its resonant parameters is improved significantly. The second resonance is observed in $e^+e^-\to π^+π^-J/ψ$ for the first time. The statistical significance of this resonance is estimated to be larger than $7.6σ$. The mass and width of the second resonance agree with the $Y(4360)$ resonance reported by the $BABAR$ and Belle experiments within errors. Finally, the $Y(4008)$ resonance previously observed by the Belle experiment is not confirmed in the description of the BESIII data. △ Less

Abstract: The cross sections of $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}h_c$ at center-of-mass energies from 3.896 to 4.600 GeV are measured using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Bei**g Electron Positron Collider. The cross sections are found to be of the same order of magnitude as those of $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}J/ψ$ and $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}ψ(2S)$, but the line shape is inconsistent… ▽ More The cross sections of $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}h_c$ at center-of-mass energies from 3.896 to 4.600 GeV are measured using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Bei**g Electron Positron Collider. Two structures are observed in the $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}h_c$ cross sections around 4.22 and 4.39 GeV/$c^{2}$, which we call $Y(4220)$ and $Y(4390)$, respectively. A fit with a coherent sum of two Breit-Wigner functions results in a mass of $(4218.4^{+5.5}_{-4.5}\pm0.9)$ MeV/$c^{2}$ and a width of $(66.0^{+12.3}_{-8.3}\pm0.4)$ MeV for the $Y(4220)$, and a mass of $(4391.6^{+6.3}_{-6.8}\pm1.0)$ MeV/$c^{2}$ and a width of $(139.5^{+16.2}_{-20.6}\pm0.6)$ MeV for the $Y(4390)$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. Amplitude analysis of the $χ_{c1} \to ηπ^+π^-$ decays

Abstract: Using $448.0 \times 10^6$~$ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, an amplitude analysis is performed for $ψ(3686)\toγχ_{c1}$, $χ_{c1}\toηπ^+π^-$ decays. The most dominant two-body structure observed is $a_0(980)^{\pm}π^{\mp}$; $a_0(980)^{\pm}\toηπ^{\pm}$. Observation of $J/ψ\to γηπ^{0}$

Abstract: Based on a sample of $1.31 \times 10^9$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector, an amplitude analysis of the isospin-violating decays $η^\prime \rightarrow π^+π^-π^0$ and $η^\prime \rightarrow π^0π^0π^0$ is performed. A significant $P$-wave contribution from $η^\prime \rightarrow ρ^{\pm} π^{\mp}$ is observed for the first time in $η^\prime \rightarrow π^+π^-π^0$. The branching fractions of the combined $S$-wave components are determined to be ${\mathcal B}(η^\prime \rightarrow π^+π^-π^0)_S=(37.63\pm0.77\pm2.22\pm4.48)\times 10^{-4}$ and ${\mathcal B}(η^\prime \rightarrow π^0π^0π^0)=(35.22\pm0.82\pm2.54)\times 10^{-4}$, respectively. Combining the Particle Data Group values of… ▽ More By analyzing 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at $\sqrt s=3.773$ GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fraction ${\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0μ^{+}ν_μ)=(8.72 \pm 0.07_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.18_{\rm sys.})\%$, which is consistent with previous measurements within uncertainties but with significantly improved precision. Combining the Particle Data Group values of ${\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ)$, ${\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 e^{+}ν_{e})$, and the lifetimes of the $D^0$ and $D^+$ mesons with the value of ${\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ)$ measured in this work, we determine the following ratios of partial widths: $Γ(D^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ)/Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0μ^{+}ν_μ)=0.963\pm0.044$ and $Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ)/Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 e^{+}ν_{e})=0.988\pm0.033$. △ Less

We use two models to characterize the $η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ line shape around $1.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}$: one which explicitly incorporates the opening of a decay threshold in the mass spectrum (Flatté formula), and another which is the coherent sum of two resonant amplitudes. Both fits show almost equally good agreement with data, and suggest the existence of either a broad state around $1.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}$ with strong couplings to $p\bar{p}$ final states or a narrow state just below the $p\bar{p}$ mass threshold. Although we cannot distinguish between the fits, either one supports the existence of a $p\bar{p}$ molecule-like state or bound state with greater than $7σ$ significance. △ Less

Abstract: A search for radiative decays of the $P$-wave spin singlet charmonium resonance $h_c$ is performed based on $4.48 \times 10^{8}$ $ψ'$ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Events of the reaction channels $h_{c} \rightarrow γη'$ and $γη$ are observed with a statistical significance of $8.4 σ$ and $4.0 σ$, respectively, for the first time. Observation of pseudoscalar and tensor resonances in $J/ψ\rightarrow γφφ$

Abstract: Based on a sample of $(1310.6 \pm 10.5) \times 10^{6}$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, a partial wave analysis of the decay $J/ψ\rightarrow γφφ$ is performed in order to study the intermediate states. Results of the partial wave analysis show that the structures are predominantly $0^{-+}$ states. The existence of the $η(2225)$ is confirmed, and… ▽ More Based on a sample of $(1310.6 \pm 10.5) \times 10^{6}$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, a partial wave analysis of the decay $J/ψ\rightarrow γφφ$ is performed in order to study the intermediate states. Results of the partial wave analysis show that the structures are predominantly $0^{-+}$ states. The existence of the $η(2225)$ is confirmed, and its resonance parameters are measured. Two additional pseudoscalar states, the $η(2100)$ with a mass of $2050_{-24}^{+30}{}_{-26}^{+75}$~MeV/$c^{2}$ and a width of $250_{-30}^{+36}{}_{-164}^{+181}$~MeV/$c^{2}$ and the $X(2500)$ with a mass of $2470_{-19}^{+15}{}_{-23}^{+101}$~MeV/$c^{2}$ and a width of $230_{-35}^{+64}{}_{-33}^{+56}$~MeV/$c^{2}$, are observed. In addition to these three pseudoscalar states, the scalar state $f_0(2100)$, and three tensor states, the $f_2(2010)$, $f_2(2300)$ and $f_2(2340)$, are observed in the process $J/ψ\rightarrow γφφ$.
