The PICOSEC Micromegas (MM) detector is a precise timing gaseous detector based on a MM detector operating in a two-stage amplification mode and a Cherenkov radiator. Prototypes equipped with cesium iodide (CsI) photocathodes have shown promising time resolutions as precise as 24 picoseconds (ps) for Minimum Ionizing Particles. However, due to the high hygroscopicity and susceptibility to ion bombardment of the CsI photocathodes, alternative photocathode materials are needed to improve the robustness of PICOSEC MM. Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) film have been introduced as a novel robust photocathode material, which have shown promising results. A batch of DLC photocathodes with different thicknesses were produced and evaluated using ultraviolet light. The quantum efficiency measurements indicate that the optimized thickness of the DLC photocathode is approximately 3 nm. Furthermore, DLC photocathodes show good resistance to ion bombardment in aging test compared to the CsI photocathode. Finally, a PICOSEC MM prototype equipped with DLC photocathodes was tested in muon beams. A time resolution of around 42 ps with a detection efficiency of 97% for 150 GeV/c muons were obtained. These results indicate the great potential of DLC as a photocathode for the PICOSEC MM detector.

The very high luminosity run foreseen at the $Z$-pole for the FCC-ee will allow the detection in $Z$ decays of new particles with very low couplings to the Standard Model. These particles will have measurable flight paths before they decay. If the timing and the position of the decay vertex can be measured with high precision, the mass of such particles can be measured by exploiting the constrained kinematics of an $e^+e^-$ collider. The mass resolution achievable with this technique is studied through a detailed analysis in the framework of a parametrised simulation of the performance of the IDEA detector. The adopted benchmark model is the production of Heavy Neutral Leptons, which is one of the key channels for new physics discovery at the FCC-ee.

We underline the theoretical and experimental interest of the vector-vector penguin decays ${\rm \overline{B}}_{d,s} \to {\rm K^{*0} \overline{K}^{*0}}$ for which the data show a strong U-spin violation. Indeed, with the latest LHCb data one has for these two modes very different longitudinal polarization fractions, $f_L^{exp}({\rm \overline{B}}_s \to {\rm K^{*0} \overline{K}^{*0}} ) = 0.24 \pm 0.04$ and $f_L^{exp}({\rm \overline{B}}_d \to {\rm K^{*0} \overline{K}^{*0}} ) = 0.74 \pm 0.05$. This feature is very striking because both modes are related by the exchange $s \leftrightarrow d$, i.e. they are related by U-spin symmetry as pointed out in earlier work by other authors. We illustrate this phenomenon by computing different observables for these modes within the QCD Factorization scheme, and we find, as expected, rather close values for the longitudinal fractions, with central values $f_L^{th}({\rm \overline{B}}_s \to {\rm K^{*0} \overline{K}^{*0}} ) \simeq 0.42$ and $f_L^{th}({\rm \overline{B}}_d \to {\rm K^{*0} \overline{K}^{*0}} ) \simeq 0.49$ and rather small errors. Furthermore, due to the $V-A$ nature of the weak currents and the heavy quark limit, one expects $(f_\parallel/f_\perp)_{th}\simeq 1$, which in the $\rm B_s$ case is in contradiction with the data $(f_\parallel/f_\perp)_{\rm exp}\simeq 0.44\pm 0.06$.}

Remarks on the penguin decay $B_s \to φφ$ with prospects for FCCee

Abstract:
We underline the theoretical interest of the vector-vector penguin decay $B_s \to φφ$, very clean from the experimental point of view. We underline the theoretical interest of the vector-vector penguin decay $B_s \to φφ$, very clean from the experimental point of view. The CP-violation asymmetry $A_{CP}^{mix}$ comes from the interference of mixing and decay $λ_{φφ} = {q \over p} {\bar{A} \over A}$. In the Standard Model (SM) and in the Naive Factorization limit, the CP phase from the mixing ${q \over p}$ exactly cancels the CP phase from the decay ratio ${\bar{A} \over A}$. Therefore, this mode is suitable to look for possible New Physics (NP) because $A_{CP}^{mix}$ would directly indicate the departure from the SM in mixing. We estimate the deviation from this cancellation by analyzing possible small effects in the SM, using in particular the QCD Factorization scheme. We compare the theoretical expectation for $A_{CP}^{mix}$ to the measurement of LHCb, and the implications for NP. We pay also special attention to the transverse amplitude $h = -$, the longitudinal and transverse polarization fractions, and the interesting helicity-dependent observables $λ_{φφ}^{h=0}$ and $λ_{φφ}^{h=-}$. On the other hand, we make an estimation of the expected sensitivity at the future FCCee experiment for the CP phase and modulus of $λ_{φφ}$. We find $δ(\mid λ_{φφ}\mid) = 0.004$ and $δ(φ_{φφ}) = 0.009$ rad and, comparing to the LHCb data, we point out the expectations at FCCee in the search of NP.

The great progress made recently in the sector of Flavor Physics has enabled to establish CP violation in the B-meson decays. The unitarity triangle derived from the unitarity relation $V_{ub}^* V_{ud} + V_{cb}^* V_{cd} + V_{tb}^* V_{td} = 0$ has been measured very precisely. To further asses our understanding of CP violation, it would be useful to carry out similar measurement of other triangles. In this note, we investigate the triangle derived from the relation $V_{ub}^* V_{us} + V_{cb}^* V_{cs} + V_{tb}^* V_{ts} = 0$. Two angles of this triangle ($α_s$ and $β_s$) could be measured very accurately at FCCee using the decays $B_s(\overline{B_s})\rightarrow D^\pm_sK^\mp$ and $B_s(\overline{B_s})\rightarrow J/ψφ$ respectively, as discussed elsewhere by us. This note concentrates on the measurement of the third angle $γ_s$ using the modes $B^\pm \to \overline{D^0}(D^0)K^\pm$. We show that a direct measurement of the angle $γ_s$ is possible with some specific $B^\pm$ decays with an estimated resolution of the order of 1$^\circ$.

At the high luminosity electron-positron circular colliders like FCC-ee in CERN and CEPC in China it will possible to measure very precisely $e^+e^-\to Zγ$ process with subsequent Z decay into particles invisible in the detector, that is into three neutrina of the Standard Model and possibly into other weakly coupled neutral particles. Apart from the measurement of the total invisible width (which is not the main subject of this work) this process may be used as a source of $Z$ coupling to electron neutrino -- known very poorly. This is possible due to the presence of the $t$-channel $W$ exchange in the $e^+e^-\to ν_e \barν_e γ$ channel which deforms slightly spectrum of the photon. We are going to show experimental investigation of this effect, for $\sim 10$ inverse atobarn accumulated luminosity, which can provide measurement of the $Z-ν_e$ coupling with statistical error of order 1\%. The estimation of the systematic experimental error will require more work, but most likely it will be of similar size.

The discovery by the ATLAS and CMS experiments of a new boson with mass around 125 GeV and with measured properties compatible with those of a Standard-Model Higgs boson, coupled with the absence of discoveries of phenomena beyond the Standard Model at the TeV scale, has triggered interest in ideas for future Higgs factories. A new circular e+e- collider hosted in a 80 to 100 km tunnel, TLEP, is among the most attractive solutions proposed so far. It has a clean experimental environment, produces high luminosity for top-quark, Higgs boson, W and Z studies, accommodates multiple detectors, and can reach energies up to the t-tbar threshold and beyond. It will enable measurements of the Higgs boson properties and of Electroweak Symmetry-Breaking (EWSB) parameters with unequalled precision, offering exploration of physics beyond the Standard Model in the multi-TeV range. Moreover, being the natural precursor of the VHE-LHC, a 100 TeV hadron machine in the same tunnel, it builds up a long-term vision for particle physics. Altogether, the combination of TLEP and the VHE-LHC offers, for a great cost effectiveness, the best precision and the best search reach of all options presently on the market. This paper presents a first appraisal of the salient features of the TLEP physics potential, to serve as a baseline for a more extensive design study.
