We investigate the evolution of a homogeneous magnetic field within Bianchi-I loop quantum cosmology, in which the big bang singularity is replaced with an anisotropic quantum bounce. Using effective spacetime description, we conduct extensive numerical simulations with randomized initial conditions for two cases: first in the presence of a pure homogeneous magnetic field and then adding a massless scalar field that effectively captures the bounce regime even in the presence of inflationary potentials. For a cigar-like approach to the classical big bang, which is far more prevalent than a point-like approach, the quantum geometric bounce acts as a seesaw mechanism for magnetic field energy density. Due to the seesaw mechanism, the magnetic field energy density gets amplified by several orders of magnitude across the bounce for a small pre-bounce value of magnetic field energy density, or vice versa. In the presence of the scalar field, the seesaw mechanism is completely replaced by amplification of the magnetic field across the bounce when the initial energy density of the scalar field significantly dominates. When the universe has a point-like approach to the classical big bang, the seesaw mechanism is absent, and magnetic field energy density experiences amplification or suppression across the non-singular bounce depending on initial densities.

In order to investigate the potential observational signals of different regularization ambiguities in loop quantum cosmological models, we systematically compute and compare the primordial scalar power spectra and the resulting angular power spectra in the standard loop quantum cosmology (LQC) and its Thiemann regularized versions -- modified LQC-I/II (mLQC-I/II), using both the dressed metric and the hybrid approaches. All three loop quantum cosmological models yield a non-singular bounce with a post-bounce physics that converges rapidly in a few Planck seconds. Using Starobinsky potential and the initial conditions for the background dynamics chosen to yield the same inflationary e-foldings, which are fixed to be $65$ in all three LQC models, we require that all three models result in the same scale-invariant regime for the primordial power spectrum with a relative difference of less than one percent. This permits us to explore the differences resulting from the deep Planck regime in the angular power spectrum. For the adiabatic states, our results demonstrate that the angular power spectrum predicted by the hybrid approach has a smaller deviation from the angular power spectrum predicted by the standard $Λ$CDM cosmological model at large angles in comparison with the dressed metric approach for all three models. The angular power spectrum predicted by mLQC-I in both the hybrid and the dressed metric approaches shows the smallest deviation from the one predicted by the standard $Λ$CDM cosmological model at large angular scales, except for the case of fourth order adiabatic initial states in the hybrid approach. On the contrary, mLQC-II results in the largest deviations for the amplitude of the angular power spectrum at large angles and is most disfavored.

In loop quantum cosmology, ambiguities in the Hamiltonian constraint can result in models with varying phenomenological predictions. In the homogeneous isotropic models, these ambiguities were settled, and the improved dynamics was found to be a unique and phenomenologically viable choice. This issue has remained unsettled on the inclusion of anisotropies, and in the Bianchi-I model there exist two generalizations of isotropic improved dynamics. In the first of these, labelled as $\bar μ$ quantization, the edge length of holonomies depends on the inverse of the directional scale factor. This quantization has been favored since it results in universal bounds on energy density and anisotropic shear, and can be viably formulated for non-compact as well as compact spatial manifolds. However, there exists an earlier quantization, labelled as $\bar μ'$ quantization, where edge lengths of holonomies depend on the inverse of the square root of directional triads. This quantization is also non-singular and so far believed to yield a consistent physical picture for spatially compact manifolds. We examine the issue of the physical viability of these quantizations for different types of matter in detail by performing a large number of numerical simulations. Our analysis reveals certain limitations which have so far remained unnoticed. We find that while being non-singular, the $\bar μ'$ quantization suffers from a surprising problem where one of the triad components and associated polymerized term retains Planckian character even at large volumes. As a result, not only is the anisotropic shear not preserved across the bounce, which is most highlighted in the vacuum case, but the universe can exhibit an unexpected cyclic evolution. These problematic features are absent from the $\bar μ$ quantization leaving it as the only viable prescription for loop quantizing the Bianchi-I model.

It was recently shown that tunneling wavefunction proposal is consistent with loop quantum geometry corrections including both holonomy and inverse scale factor corrections in the gravitational part of a spatially closed isotropic model with a positive cosmological constant. However, in presence of an inflationary potential the initial singularity is kinetic dominated and the effective minisuperspace potential again diverges at zero scale factor. Since the wavefunction in loop quantum cosmology cannot increase towards the zero scale factor, the tunneling wavefunction seems incompatible. We show that consistently including inverse scale factor modifications in scalar field Hamiltonian changes the effective potential into a barrier potential allowing the tunneling proposal. We also discuss a potential quantum instability of the cyclic universe resulting from tunneling.

Warm inflation, its different particle physics model implementations and the implications of dissipative particle production for its cosmology are reviewed. First, we briefly present the background dynamics of warm inflation and contrast it with the cold inflation picture. An exposition of the space of parameters for different well-motivated potentials, which are ruled out, or severely constrained in the cold inflation scenario, but not necessarily in warm inflation, is provided. Next, the quantum field theory aspects in realizing explicit microscopic models for warm inflation are given. This includes the derivation of dissipation coefficients relevant in warm inflation for different particle field theory models. The dynamics of cosmological perturbations in warm inflation are then described. The general expression for the curvature scalar power spectrum is shown. We then discuss in details the relevant regimes of warm inflation, the weak and strong dissipative regimes. We also discuss the results predicted in these regimes of warm inflation and how they are confronted with the observational data. We explain how the dissipative dynamics in warm inflation can address several long-standing issues related to (post-) inflationary cosmology. This includes recent discussions concerning the so-called swampland criteria and how warm inflation can belong to the landscape of string theory.

In Vilenkin's tunneling wavefunction proposal our expanding universe is born via a tunneling through a barrier from nothing at the zero scale factor. We explore the viability of this proposal for the spatially closed FLRW model with a positive cosmological constant including quantum gravity modifications in the Planck regime. Our setting is the effective spacetime description of loop quantum cosmology (LQC) which is known to replace the big bang singularity with a bounce due to the holonomy modifications. Due to the bounce, the barrier potential of the Wheeler-DeWitt theory is replaced by a step like potential which makes the tunneling proposal incompatible. But for a complete picture of singularity resolution, inverse scale factor modifications from quantum geometry must be included which play an important role at very small scale factors in the spatially closed models. We show that with inclusion of inverse scale factor modifications the resulting potential is again a barrier potential. The universe at the vanishing scale factor is dynamically non-singular and in an Einstein static like phase. We show that quantum geometric effects in LQC provide a non-singular completion of Vilenkin's tunneling proposal. We also find that quantum geometric effects result in a possibility of a tunneling to a quantum cyclic universe albeit for a very large value of cosmological constant determined by the quantum geometry.

We consider warm inflation with a Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) kinetic term in which both the nonequilibrium dissipative particle production and the sound speed parameter slow the motion of the inflaton field. We find that a low sound speed parameter removes, or at least strongly suppresses, the growing function appearing in the scalar of curvature power spectrum of warm inflation, which appears due to the temperature dependence in the dissipation coefficient. As a consequence of that, a low sound speed helps to push warm inflation into the strong dissipation regime, which is an attractive regime from a model building and phenomenological perspective. In turn, the strong dissipation regime of warm inflation softens the microscopic theoretical constraints on cold DBI inflation. The present findings, along with the recent results from swampland criteria, give a strong hint that warm inflation may consistently be embedded into string theory.

A problematic feature of low energy scale inflationary models, such as Starobinsky inflation, in a spatially closed universe is the occurrence of a recollapse and a big crunch singularity before inflation can even set in. In a recent work it was shown that this problem can be successfully resolved in loop quantum cosmology for a large class of initial conditions due to a non-singular cyclic evolution and a hysteresis-like phenomena. However, for certain highly unfavorable initial conditions the onset of inflation was still difficult to obtain. In this work, we explore the role of dissipative particle production, which is typical in warm inflation scenario, in the above setting. We find that entropy production sourced by such dissipative effects makes hysteresis-like phenomena stronger. As a result, the onset of inflation is quick in general including for highly unfavorable initial conditions where it fails or is significantly delayed in the absence of dissipative effects. We phenomenologically consider three warm inflation scenarios with distinct forms of dissipation coefficient, and from dynamical solutions and phase space portraits find that the phase space of favorable initial conditions turns out to be much larger than in cold inflation.

It has very recently been realized that coupling branes to higher dimensional quantum gravity theories and considering the consistency of what lives on the branes, one is able to understand whether such theories can belong either to the swampland or to the landscape. In this regard, in the present work, we study a warm inflation model embedded in the Randall-Sundrum braneworld scenario. It is explicitly shown that this model belongs to the landscape by supporting a strong dissipative regime with an inflaton steep exponential potential. The presence of extra dimension effects from the braneworld allow achieving this strong dissipative regime, which is shown to be both theoretically and observationally consistent. In fact, such strong dissipation effects, which decrease towards the end of inflation, together with the extra dimension effect, allow the present realization to simultaneously satisfy all previous restrictions imposed on such a model and to evade the recently proposed swampland conjectures. The present implementation of this model, in terms of an exponential potential for the scalar field, makes it also a possible candidate for describing the late-time Universe in the context of a dissipative quintessential inflation model and we discuss this possibility in the Conclusions.

We find some constraints on the possible physical solutions by investigating the solutions numerically. We also study the behavior of the solutions in the extremal limits of the Atiyah-Hitchin geometry. In the extremal limits, the Atiyah-Hitchin metric reduces to a bolt structure and Euclidean Taub-NUT space, respectively. In these limits, the five-dimensional metric function approaches to a constant value and infinity, respectively. We find the asymptotic metrics are regular everywhere.

We reconsider a recently proposed warm G-inflation scenario in which the Galileon scalar field concurrently dissipates its kinetic energy as the radiation fluid throughout inflation and the universe smoothly enters into a radiation dominated era without going through the reheating phase. It is shown that the perturbed second-order Langevin equation can be nicely simplified and solved by defining the Galileon dissipation factor, $Q_{G} = \frac{Q}{\mathcal{B}}$, resulting in a power spectrum utilizing a Green function approach for the dissipative coefficient independent of temperature. However, for a dissipation coefficient depending on temperature, the perturbed inflaton and radiation field equations will be coupled in the high temperature regime. Therefore, the produced radiation backreacts on the power spectrum, modifying it with a growing mode function in the high dissipation regime. Finally, a model is proposed in which the standard Higgs boson dissipates into light mediator fields, for instance, fermions with a linear temperature dependent dissipative coefficient which can act as inflaton, thanks to the Galileon-like non-linear derivative interaction. The generated primordial perturbations in the G-dominant regime is in excellent agreement with Planck 2015 likelihood+ TTTEEE+BAO at large scales despite its large self-coupling $λ\sim 0.13$ through accommodating many light mediator fields. However, although such primordial perturbations may also get amplified by several orders of magnitude at small scales due to the presence of the growing mode function, warm G-inflation shows a striking feature in that the growing mode can be controlled or completely disappeared by decreasing the value of the propagating sound speed $c_{s}$.

Recently, it has been realized that the so-called G-inflation model inspired by supplementing a generalized covariant Galileon-like non-linear derivative self-interacting term to the standard kinetic term should be ruled out from inflationary models. This is due to the fact that it suffers from lack of an oscillatory phase at the end of the inflationary regime which is typically accompanied by the appearance of a negative squared propagation speed of the scalar mode leading to instabilities of small-scale perturbations. In this regard, the warm G-inflation scenario is proposed where for G-inflation to survive, the Galileon scalar field is coupled to the radiation field through a dissipation term which results in removing the reheating period due to the characteristics of warm inflationary scenario. In so doing, a linear stability analysis is first performed to obtain the appropriate slow-roll conditions in such a proposal. Cosmological perturbations of the model are then investigated by utilizing fluctuation-dissipation theorem and analytical expressions are derived for observable quantities; the power spectrum, tilt spectral index and tensor-to-scalar ratio in terms of $PSR$ parameters and Galileon flow functions. Finally, the model is solved for chaotic self-interacting potentials, particularly the renormalizable Higgs potential $\fracλ{4} φ^{4}$, and shown to be consistent with observations in the weak dissipation $Q \ll 1+ 3\frac{δ_{GX}}{δ_{X}}$ and G-dominant $3\frac{δ_{GX}}{δ_{X}}\gg 1$ regime despite its large self-coupling, since the energy scale at the horizon crossing is depressed by the synergy of Galileon and thermal effects.

We analyze the cosmology of a general Scalar-Tensor theory which encompasses generalized Brans-Dicke theory, Gauss-Bonnet gravity, non-minimal derivative gravity, generalized Galileon gravity and also the general k-essence type models. Instead of taking into account phenomenological considerations we adopt a Noether symmetry approach, as a physical criterion, to single out the form of undetermined functions in the action. These specified functions symmetrize equations of motion in the simplest possible form which result in exact solutions. Demanding de Sitter, power-law and bouncing universe solutions in the absence and presence of matter density leads to exploring new as well as well-investigated models. We show that there are models for which dynamics of the system allow transition from a decelerating phase (matter dominated era) to an accelerating phase (dark energy epoch) and could also lead to general Brans-Dicke with string correction without a self-interaction potential. Furthermore, we classify the models based on phantom or quintessence dark energy point of view. Finally, we obtain the condition for stability of a de Sitter solution for which the solution is an attractor of the system.

We study a warm-tachyon inflationary model non-minimally coupled to a Gauss-Bonnet term. The general conditions required for reliability of the model are obtained by considerations of a combined hierarchy of Hubble and Gauss-Bonnet flow functions. The perturbed equations are comprehensively derived in the longitudinal gauge in the presence of slow-roll and quasi-stable conditions. General expressions for observable quantities of interest such as the tensor-to-scalar ratio, scalar spectral index and its running are found in the high dissipation regime. Finally, the model is solved using exponential and inverse power-law potentials, which satisfy the properties of a tachyon potential, with parameters of the model being constrained within the framework of the Planck 2015 data.
