A Topological Drive for Spacetime Travel
Authors:

Abstract:
We present a toy metric of spacetime travel from topological change. A bubble-like baby universe is detached and re-attached from our universe. Depending on where the bubble is re-attached, matter may travel superluminally or backwards-in-time through the bubble. Quasiregular singularities are formed at the detachment and re-attachment spacetime points. The spacetime is traversable and not covered…

Depending on where the bubble is re-attached, matter may travel superluminally or backwards-in-time through the bubble. Quasiregular singularities are formed at the detachment and re-attachment spacetime points. The spacetime is traversable and not covered by any horizons. Exotic matter violating energy conditions is required to realize such spacetimes.

Abstract:
The gravitational lensing effect at higher order under weak-field approximation is believed to be important to distinguish black holes and other compact objects such as wormholes. The deflection angle of a generic wormhole is difficult to solve analytically; thus approximation methods are implemented. The gravitational lensing effect at higher order under weak-field approximation is believed to be important to distinguish black holes and other compact objects such as wormholes. The deflection angle of a generic wormhole is difficult to solve analytically; thus approximation methods are implemented. In this paper, we investigate the weak-field deflection angle of a specific wormhole, the Ellis-Bronnikov wormhole, up to the 1/b^4 order. We use different approximation formalisms, study their precision at 1/b^4 order by a comparison to a purely numerical result, and finally rank these formalisms by their accuracy. Moreover, we find that certain formalisms are sensitive to the choice of coordinate system; thus it is important to choose the coordinate system appropriately for the evaluating of lensing physics.

Reconciling cosmic dipolar tensions with a gigaparsec void

Abstract:
Recent observations indicate a $4.9σ$ tension between the CMB and quasar dipoles. This tension challenges the cosmological principle. We propose that if we live in a gigaparsec scale void, the CMB and quasar dipolar tension can be reconciled. This is because we are unlikely to live at the center of the void. And a 19% offset from the center will impact the quasars and CMB differently in their dipo…

We propose that if we live in a gigaparsec scale void, the CMB and quasar dipolar tension can be reconciled. This is because we are unlikely to live at the center of the void. And a 19% offset from the center will impact the quasars and CMB differently in their dipolar anisotropies. As we consider a large and thick void, our setup can also ease the Hubble tension.
