In this paper, an interference cancellation based neural receiver for superimposed pilot (SIP) in multi-layer transmission is proposed, where the data and pilot are non-orthogonally superimposed in the same time-frequency resource. Specifically, to deal with the intra-layer and inter-layer interference of SIP under multi-layer transmission, the interference cancellation with superimposed symbol aided channel estimation is leveraged in the neural receiver, accompanied by the pre-design of pilot code-division orthogonal mechanism at transmitter. In addition, to address the complexity issue for inter-vendor collaboration and the generalization problem in practical deployments, respectively, this paper also provides a fixed SIP (F-SIP) design based on constant pilot power ratio and scalable mechanisms for different modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) and transmission layers. Simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed schemes on the performance of block error rate and throughput compared with existing counterparts.

A Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted mobile edge computing (MEC) scheme with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) is proposed in this paper. Unlike existing MEC-WPT schemes that disregard the downlink period for returning computing results to the ground equipment (GEs), our proposed scheme actively considers and capitalizes on this period. By leveraging the SWIPT technique, the UAV can simultaneously transmit energy and the computing results during the downlink period. In this scheme, our objective is to maximize the remaining energy among all GEs by jointly optimizing computing task scheduling, UAV transmit and receive beamforming, BS receive beamforming, GEs' transmit power and power splitting ratio for information decoding, time scheduling, and UAV trajectory. We propose an alternating optimization algorithm that utilizes the semidefinite relaxation (SDR), singular value decomposition (SVD), and fractional programming (FP) methods to effectively solve the nonconvex problem. Numerous experiments validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

This paper introduces a novel multi-user mobile edge computing (MEC) scheme facilitated by the simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS) and the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Unlike existing MEC approaches, the proposed scheme enables bidirectional offloading, allowing users to concurrently offload tasks to the MEC servers located at the ground base station (BS) and UAV with STAR-RIS support. Specifically, we formulate an optimization problem aiming at maximizing the energy efficiency of the system while ensuring the quality of service (QoS) constraints by jointly optimizing the resource allocation, user scheduling, passive beamforming of the STAR-RIS, and the UAV trajectory. A block coordinate descent (BCD) iterative algorithm designed with the Dinkelbach's algorithm and the successive convex approximation (SCA) technique is proposed to effectively handle the formulated non-convex optimization problem with significant coupling among variables. Simulation results indicate that the proposed STAR-RIS enhanced UAV-enabled MEC scheme possesses significant advantages in enhancing the system energy efficiency over other baseline schemes including the conventional RIS-aided scheme.

Modern society's reliance on power systems is at risk from the escalating effects of wind-related climate change. Yet, failure to identify the intricate relationship between wind-related climate risks and power systems could lead to serious short- and long-term issues, including partial or complete blackouts. Here, we develop a comprehensive framework to assess China's power system resilience across various climate change scenarios, enabling a holistic evaluation of the repercussions induced by wind-related climate change. Our findings indicate that China's current wind projects and planning strategies could be jeopardized by wind-related climate change, with up to a 12\% decline in regional wind power availability. Moreover, our results underscore a pronounced vulnerability of power system resilience amidst the rigors of hastened climate change, unveiling a potential amplification of resilience deterioration, even approaching fourfold by 2060 under the most severe scenario, relative to the 2020 benchmark. This work advocates for strategic financial deployment within the power sector aimed at climate adaptation, enhancing power system resilience to avert profound losses from long-term, wind-influenced climatic fluctuations.

Molecular communication, as implied by its name, uses molecules as information carriers for communication between objects. It has an advantage over traditional electromagnetic-wave-based communication in that molecule-based systems could be biocompatible, operable in challenging environments, and energetically undemanding. Consequently, they are envisioned to have a broad range of applications, such as in the Internet of Bio-nano Things, targeted drug delivery, and agricultural monitoring. Despite the rapid development of the field, with an increasing number of theoretical models and experimental testbeds established by researchers, a fundamental aspect of the field has often been sidelined, namely, the nature of the molecule in molecular communication.
The potential information molecules could exhibit a wide range of properties, making them require drastically different treatments when being modeled and experimented upon. Therefore, in this paper, we delve into the intricacies of commonly used information molecules, examining their fundamental physical characteristics, associated communication systems, and potential applications in a more realistic manner, focusing on the influence of their own properties. Through this comprehensive survey, we aim to offer a novel yet essential perspective on molecular communication, thereby bridging the current gap between theoretical research and real-world applications.

Accurate and effective channel state information (CSI) feedback is a key technology for massive multiple-input and multiple-output systems. Recently, deep learning (DL) has been introduced for CSI feedback enhancement through massive collected training data and lengthy training time, which is quite costly and impractical for realistic deployment. In this article, a knowledge-driven meta-learning approach is proposed, where the DL model initialized by the meta model obtained from meta training phase is able to achieve rapid convergence when facing a new scenario during target retraining phase. Specifically, instead of training with massive data collected from various scenarios, the meta task environment is constructed based on the intrinsic knowledge of spatial-frequency characteristics of CSI for meta training. Moreover, the target task dataset is also augmented by exploiting the knowledge of statistical characteristics of wireless channel, so that the DL model can achieve higher performance with small actually collected dataset and short training time. In addition, we provide analyses of rationale for the improvement yielded by the knowledge in both phases. Cell-free (CF) extremely large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (XL-MIMO) is regarded as a promising technology for enabling future wireless communication systems. Significant attention has been generated by its considerable advantages in augmenting degrees of freedom. In this paper, we first investigate a CF XL-MIMO system with base stations equipped with XL-MIMO panels under a dynamic environment. Then, we propose an innovative multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL)-based power control algorithm that incorporates predictive management and distributed optimization architecture, which provides a dynamic strategy for addressing high-dimension signal processing problems. Specifically, we compare various MARL-based algorithms, which shows that the proposed MARL-based algorithm effectively strikes a balance between spectral efficiency (SE) performance and convergence time. Moreover, we consider a double-layer power control architecture based on the large-scale fading coefficients between antennas to suppress interference within dynamic systems. Compared to the single-layer architecture, the results obtained unveil that the proposed double-layer architecture has a nearly24% SE performance improvement, especially with massive antennas and smaller antenna spacing.

We present ImageBind-LLM, a multi-modality instruction tuning method of large language models (LLMs) via ImageBind. Existing works mainly focus on language and image instruction tuning, different from which, our ImageBind-LLM can respond to multi-modality conditions, including audio, 3D point clouds, video, and their embedding-space arithmetic by only image-text alignment training. During training, we adopt a learnable bind network to align the embedding space between LLaMA and ImageBind's image encoder. Then, the image features transformed by the bind network are added to word tokens of all layers in LLaMA, which progressively injects visual instructions via an attention-free and zero-initialized gating mechanism. Aided by the joint embedding of ImageBind, the simple image-text training enables our model to exhibit superior multi-modality instruction-following capabilities. During inference, the multi-modality inputs are fed into the corresponding ImageBind encoders, and processed by a proposed visual cache model for further cross-modal embedding enhancement. The training-free cache model retrieves from three million image features extracted by ImageBind, which effectively mitigates the training-inference modality discrepancy. Notably, with our approach, ImageBind-LLM can respond to instructions of diverse modalities and demonstrate significant language generation quality. Extremely large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (XL-MIMO) is a promising technique to enable versatile applications for future wireless communications. To realize the huge potential performance gain, accurate channel state information is a fundamental technical prerequisite. In conventional massive MIMO, the channel is often modeled by the far-field planar-wavefront with rich sparsity in the angular domain that facilitates the design of low-complexity channel estimation. However, this sparsity is not conspicuous in XL-MIMO systems due to the non-negligible near-field spherical-wavefront. To address the inherent performance loss of the angular-domain channel estimation schemes, we first propose the polar-domain multiple residual dense network (P-MRDN) for XL-MIMO systems based on the polar-domain sparsity of the near-field channel by improving the existing MRDN scheme. Furthermore, a polar-domain multi-scale residual dense network (P-MSRDN) is designed to improve the channel estimation accuracy. Finally, simulation results reveal the superior performance of the proposed schemes compared with existing benchmark schemes and the minimal influence of the channel sparsity on the proposed schemes.

In particular, the access point (AP) transmitter adopts NOMA to serve a downlink covert user and a public user. The minimum detection error probability (DEP) at the warden is derived considering the uncertainty of its background noise, which is used as a covertness constraint. We aim at maximizing the covert rate of the system by jointly optimizing APs transmit power and passive beamforming of STAR-RIS, under the covertness and quality of service (QoS) constraints. Extremely large-scale multiple-input-multipleoutput (XL-MIMO) has been reviewed as a promising technology for future sixth-generation (6G) networks to achieve higher performance. In practice, various linear precoding schemes, such as zero-forcing (ZF) and regularized ZF (RZF) precoding, are sufficient to achieve near-optimal performance in traditional massive MIMO (mMIMO) systems. It is critical to note that in large-scale antenna arrays the operation of channel matrix inversion poses a significant computational challenge for these precoders. Therefore, we explore several iterative methods for determining the precoding matrix for XL-MIMO systems instead of direct matrix inversion. Taking into account small- and large-scale fading as well as spatial correlation between antennas, we study their computational complexity and convergence rate. Furthermore, we propose the Jacobi-Preconditioning Conjugate Gradient (Jac-PCG) iterative inversion method, which enjoys a faster convergence speed than the CG method. Besides, the closed-form expression of spectral efficiency (SE) considering the interference between subarrays in downlink XL-MIMO systems is derived. In the numerical results, it is shown that the complexity given by the Jac-PCG algorithm has about 54% reduction than the traditional RZF algorithm at basically the same SE performance.

In particular, to shelter the existence of communications between transmitter and receiver from a warden, a friendly full-duplex receiver with two antennas is leveraged to make contributions to confuse the warden. Extremely large-scale multiple-input-multiple-output (XL-MIMO) is a promising technology for the future sixth-generation (6G) networks to achieve higher performance. In practice, various linear precoding schemes, such as zero-forcing (ZF) and regularized zero-forcing (RZF) precoding, are capable of achieving both large spectral efficiency (SE) and low bit error rate (BER) in traditional massive MIMO (mMIMO) systems. However, these methods are not efficient in extremely large-scale regimes due to the inherent spatial non-stationarity and high computational complexity. To address this problem, we investigate a low-complexity precoding algorithm, e.g., randomized Kaczmarz (rKA), taking into account the spatial non-stationary properties in XL-MIMO systems. Furthermore, we propose a novel mode of randomization, i.e., sampling without replacement rKA (SwoR-rKA), which enjoys a faster convergence speed than the rKA algorithm. Besides, the closed-form expression of SE considering the interference between subarrays in downlink XL-MIMO systems is derived. Numerical results show that the complexity given by both rKA and SwoR-rKA algorithms has 51.3% reduction than the traditional RZF algorithm with similar SE performance. More importantly, our algorithms can effectively reduce the BER when the transmitter has imperfect channel estimation.

More specifically, we consider the practical scenario with multiple base stations (BSs) and multiple user equipments (UEs). It is worth noting that we derive the closed-form SE expressions for the CF XL-MIMO with maximum ratio (MR) combining. Numerical results show that the SE performance of the CF XL-MIMO can be hugely improved compared with the small-cell XL-MIMO. Considering the analogy between market undulation of price time series and physical stress of bio-signals, we investigate whether stress indices in bio-systems can be adopted and modified so as to measure 'standard stress' in financial markets. This is achieved by employing structural complexity analysis, based on variants of univariate and multivariate sample entropy, to estimate the stress level of both financial markets on the whole and the performance of the individual financial indices. Further, we propose a novel graphical framework to establish the sensitivity of individual assets and stock markets to financial crises. This is achieved through Catastrophe Theory and entropy-based stress evaluations indicating the unique performance of each index/individual stock in response to different crises. Four major indices and four individual equities with gold prices are considered over the past 32 years from 1991-2021. Our findings based on nonlinear analyses and the proposed framework support the Efficient Market Hypothesis and reveal the relations among economic indices and within each price time series.

Four-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (4D-MRI) is an emerging technique for tumor motion management in image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT). However, current 4D-MRI suffers from low spatial resolution and strong motion artifacts owing to the long acquisition time and patients' respiratory variations; these limitations, if not managed properly, can adversely affect treatment planning and delivery in IGRT. Herein, we developed a novel deep learning framework called the coarse-super-resolution-fine network (CoSF-Net) to achieve simultaneous motion estimation and super-resolution in a unified model. We designed CoSF-Net by fully excavating the inherent properties of 4D-MRI, with consideration of limited and imperfectly matched training datasets. We conducted extensive experiments on multiple real patient datasets to verify the feasibility and robustness of the developed network. Compared with existing networks and three state-of-the-art conventional algorithms, CoSF-Net not only accurately estimated the deformable vector fields between the respiratory phases of 4D-MRI but also simultaneously improved the spatial resolution of 4D-MRI with enhanced anatomic features, yielding 4D-MR images with high spatiotemporal resolution.

To overcome the shortcomings of the conventional methods with matched preconditions, the fuzzy $H_{\infty}$ filter to be designed and the T-S fuzzy model are assumed to have different premise membership functions and number of rules, thus, greater design flexibility and robustness to uncertainty can be achieved. However, such design will also make the derived results conservative, to relax the result, a novel integral inequality which is tighter than the traditional inequalities derived from the Leibniz-Newton formula is applied, besides, a fuzzy Lypunov function and the information of the membership functions are also introduced. All the design methods are presented in LMI-based conditions. Finally, two numerical examples are given to prove the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach.

Power loss estimation is an indispensable procedure to conduct lifetime prediction for power semiconductor device. The previous studies successfully perform steady-state power loss estimation for different applications, but which may be limited for the electric vehicles (EVs) with high dynamics. Based on two EV standard driving cycle profiles, this paper gives a comparative study of power loss estimation models with two different time resolutions, i.e., the output period average and the switching period average. The correspondingly estimated power losses, thermal profiles, and lifetime clearly pointed out that the widely applied power loss model with the output period average is limited for EV applications, in particular for the highly dynamic driving cycle. The difference in the predicted lifetime can be up to 300 times due to the unreasonable choice the loss model, which calls for the industry attention on the differences of the EVs and the importance of loss model selection in lifetime prediction.

The newly emerging federated learning (FL) framework offers a new way to train machine learning models in a privacy-preserving manner. However, traditional FL algorithms are based on an event-triggered aggregation, which suffers from stragglers and communication overhead issues. To address these issues, in this paper, we present a time-triggered FL algorithm (TT-Fed) over wireless networks, which is a generalized form of classic synchronous and asynchronous FL. Taking the constrained resource and unreliable nature of wireless communication into account, we jointly study the user selection and bandwidth optimization problem to minimize the FL training loss. To solve this joint optimization problem, we provide a thorough convergence analysis for TT-Fed. Based on the obtained analytical convergence upper bound, the optimization problem is decomposed into tractable sub-problems with respect to each global aggregation round, and finally solved by our proposed online search algorithm. Simulation results show that compared to asynchronous FL (FedAsync) and FL with asynchronous user tiers (FedAT) benchmarks, our proposed TT-Fed algorithm improves the converged test accuracy by up to 12.5% and 5%, respectively, under highly imbalanced and non-IID data, while substantially reducing the communication overhead.

This paper investigates the optimization of beamforming design in a system with integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), where the base station (BS) sends signals for simultaneous multiuser communication and radar sensing. We aim at maximizing the energy efficiency (EE) of the multiuser communication while guaranteeing the sensing requirement in terms of individual radar beampattern gains. The problem is a complicated nonconvex fractional program which is challenging to be solved. By appropriately reformulating the problem and then applying the techniques of successive convex approximation (SCA) and semidefinite relaxation (SDR), we propose an iterative algorithm to address this problem. In theory, we prove that the introduced relaxation of the SDR is rigorously tight. Numerical results validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

In the paper, we present an approach for learning a single model that universally segments 33 anatomical structures, including vertebrae, pelvic bones, and abdominal organs. Our model building has to address the following challenges. Firstly, while it is ideal to learn such a model from a large-scale, fully-annotated dataset, it is practically hard to curate such a dataset. Thus, we resort to learn from a union of multiple datasets, with each dataset containing the images that are partially labeled. Secondly, along the line of partial labelling, we contribute an open-source, large-scale vertebra segmentation dataset for the benefit of spine analysis community, CTSpine1K, boasting over 1,000 3D volumes and over 11K annotated vertebrae. Thirdly, in a 3D medical image segmentation task, due to the limitation of GPU memory, we always train a model using cropped patches as inputs instead a whole 3D volume, which limits the amount of contextual information to be learned. To this, we propose a cross-patch transformer module to fuse more information in adjacent patches, which enlarges the aggregated receptive field for improved segmentation performance. This is especially important for segmenting, say, the elongated spine. Based on 7 partially labeled datasets that collectively contain about 2,800 3D volumes, we successfully learn such a universal model. Finally, we evaluate the universal model on multiple open-source datasets, proving that our model has a good generalization performance and can potentially serve as a solid foundation for downstream tasks.

Automatic segmentation of glioma and its subregions is of great significance for diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of disease. In this paper, an augmentation method, called TensorMixup, was proposed and applied to the three dimensional U-Net architecture for brain tumor segmentation. The main ideas included that first, two image patches with size of 128 in three dimensions were selected according to glioma information of ground truth labels from the magnetic resonance imaging data of any two patients with the same modality. Next, a tensor in which all elements were independently sampled from Beta distribution was used to mix the image patches. Then the tensor was mapped to a matrix which was used to mix the one-hot encoded labels of the above image patches. Therefore, a new image and its one-hot encoded label were synthesized. Finally, the new data was used to train the model which could be used to segment glioma. The experimental results show that the mean accuracy of Dice scores are 91.32%, 85.67%, and 82.20% respectively on the whole tumor, tumor core, and enhancing tumor segmentation, which proves that the proposed TensorMixup is feasible and effective for brain tumor segmentation.

The hyperspectral image (HSI) has been widely used in many applications due to its fruitful spectral information. However, the limitation of imaging sensors has reduced its spatial resolution that causes detail loss. One solution is to fuse the low spatial resolution hyperspectral image (LR-HSI) and the panchromatic image (PAN) with inverse features to get the high-resolution hyperspectral image (HR-HSI). Most of the existing fusion methods just focus on small fusion ratios like 4 or 6, which might be impractical for some large ratios' HSI and PAN image pairs. Moreover, the ill-posedness of restoring detail information in HSI with hundreds of bands from PAN image with only one band has not been solved effectively, especially under large fusion ratios. Therefore, a lightweight unmixing-based pan-guided fusion network (Pgnet) is proposed to mitigate this ill-posedness and improve the fusion performance significantly. Note that the fusion process of the proposed network is under the projected low-dimensional abundance subspace with an extremely large fusion ratio of 16. Furthermore, based on the linear and nonlinear relationships between the PAN intensity and abundance, an interpretable PAN detail inject network (PDIN) is designed to inject the PAN details into the abundance feature efficiently. Comprehensive experiments on simulated and real datasets demonstrate the superiority and generality of our method over several state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods qualitatively and quantitatively (The codes in pytorch and paddle versions and dataset could be available at https://github.com/rs-lsl/Pgnet). (This is a improved version compared with the publication in Tgrs with the modification in the deduction of the PDIN block.)

In this paper, we investigate the performance of an RIS-aided wireless communication system subject to outdated channel state information that may operate in both the near- and far-field regions. In particular, we take two RIS deployment strategies into consideration: (i) the centralized deployment, where all the reflecting elements are installed on a single RIS and (ii) the distributed deployment, where the same number of reflecting elements are placed on multiple RISs. For both deployment strategies, we derive accurate closed-form approximations for the ergodic capacity, and we introduce tight upper and lower bounds for the ergodic capacity to obtain useful design insights. From this analysis, we unveil that an increase of the transmit power, the Rician-K factor, the accuracy of the channel state information and the number of reflecting elements help improve the system performance. Moreover, we prove that the centralized RIS-aided deployment may achieve a higher ergodic capacity as compared with the distributed RIS-aided deployment when the RIS is located near the base station or near the user. In different setups, on the other hand, we prove that the distributed deployment outperforms the centralized deployment. Finally, the analytical results are verified by using Monte Carlo simulations.

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) constitutes an essential and promising paradigm that relies programmable wireless environment and provides capability for space-intensive communications, due to the use of low-cost massive reflecting elements over the entire surfaces of man-made structures. However, accurate channel estimation is a fundamental technical prerequisite to achieve the huge performance gains from RIS. By leveraging the low rank structure of RIS channels, three practical residual neural networks, named convolutional blind denoising network, convolutional denoising generative adversarial networks and multiple residual dense network, are proposed to obtain accurate channel state information, which can reflect the impact of different methods on the estimation performance. Simulation results reveal the evolution direction of these three methods and reveal their superior performance compared with existing benchmark schemes.

Impact sounding signal has been shown to contain information about structural integrity flaws and subsurface objects from previous research. As non-destructive testing (NDT) method, one of the biggest challenges in impact sounding based inspection is the subsurface targets detection and reconstruction. This paper presents the importance and practicability of using solenoids to trigger impact sounding signal and using acoustic data to reconstruct subsurface objects to address this issue. First, by taking advantage of Visual Simultaneous Localization and Map** (V-SLAM), we could obtain the 3D position of the robot during the inspection. Second, our NDE method is based on Frequency Density (FD) analysis for the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of the impact sounding signal. At last, by combining the 3D position data and acoustic data, this paper creates a 3D map to highlight the possible subsurface objects. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the method.

To quantify the complexity of a system, entropy-based methods have received considerable critical attentions in real-world data analysis. Among numerous entropy algorithms, amplitude-based formulas, represented by Sample Entropy, suffer from a limitation of data length especially when it comes to practical scenarios. And this shortcoming is further highlighted by involving coarse graining procedure in multi-scale process. The unbalance between embedding dimension and data size will undoubtedly result in inaccurate and undefined estimation. To that cause, Variational Embedding Multiscale Sample Entropy is proposed in this paper, which assigns signals from various channels with distinct embedding dimensions. And this algorithm is tested by both stimulated and real signals. Furthermore, the performance of the new entropy is investigated and compared with Multivariate Multiscale Sample Entropy and Variational Embedding Multiscale Diversity Entropy. Two real-world database, wind data sets with varying regimes and physiological database recorded from young and elderly people, were utilized. As a result, the proposed algorithm gives an improved separation for both situations.

The rapidly increasing prevalence of debilitating breathing disorders, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), calls for a meaningful integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into healthcare. While this promises improved detection and monitoring of breathing disorders, AI techniques are almost invariably "data hungry" which highlights the importance of generating physically meaningful surrogate data. Indeed, domain aware surrogates would enable both an improved understanding of respiratory waveform changes with different breathing disorders, and enhance the training of machine learning algorithms. To this end, we introduce an apparatus comprising of PVC tubes and 3D printed parts as a simple yet effective method of simulating both obstructive and restrictive respiratory waveforms in healthy subjects. Independent control over both inspiratory and expiratory resistances allows for the simulation of obstructive breathing disorders through the whole spectrum of FEV1/FVC spirometry ratios (used to classify COPD), ranging from healthy values to values seen in severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Moreover, waveform characteristics of breathing disorders, such as a change in inspiratory duty cycle or peak flow are also observed in the waveforms resulting from use of the artificial breathing disorder simulation apparatus. Overall, the proposed apparatus provides us with a simple, effective and physically meaningful way to generate faithful surrogate breathing disorder waveforms, a prerequisite for the use of artificial intelligence in respiratory health.

This paper proposes a hybrid dimming scheme based on joint LED selection and precoding design (TASP-HD) for multiple-user (MU) multiple-cell (MC) visible light communications (VLC) systems. In TASP-HD, both the LED selection and the precoding of each cell can be dynamically adjusted to reduce the intra- and inter-cell interferences while satisfying illumination constraints. First, a MU-MC-VLC system model is established, and then a sum-rate maximization problem under dimming level and illumination uniformity constraints is formulated. In this studied problem, the indices of activated LEDs and precoding matrices are optimized, which result in a complex non-convex mixed integer problem. To solve this problem, the original problem is separated into two subproblems. The first subproblem, which maximizes the sum-rate of users via optimizing the LED selection with a given precoding matrix, is a mixed integer problem solved by the penalty method. With the optimized LED selection matrix, the second subproblem which focuses on the maximization of the sum-rate via optimizing the precoding matrix is solved by the Lagrangian dual method. Finally, these two subproblems are iteratively solved to obtain a convergent solution. Simulation results verify that in a typical indoor scenario under a dimming level of 70%, the mean bandwidth efficiency of TASP-HD is 4.8 bit/s/Hz and 7.13 bit/s/Hz greater than AD and DD, respectively.

To cope with the sheer amount of data for large-size systems, a multi-bit quantizer is utilized in the sampling process. As a low-complexity alternative to classic generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) for quantized data, we propose the multi-bit detector on Rao test with a closed-form test statistic, whose theoretical asymptotic distribution is provided to generalize the actual detection performance. Besides, we refine the design of quantizer by optimized quantization thresholds, which are obtained resorting to the popular particle swarm optimization algorithmthe (PSOA). The simulation is conducted to demonstrate the performance variations of detectors based on unquantized and quantized data. The numerical results corroborate our theoretical analyses and show that the performance with 3-bit quantization approaches the case without quantization.

Spine-related diseases have high morbidity and cause a huge burden of social cost. Spine imaging is an essential tool for noninvasively visualizing and assessing spinal pathology. Segmenting vertebrae in computed tomography (CT) images is the basis of quantitative medical image analysis for clinical diagnosis and surgery planning of spine diseases. Current publicly available annotated datasets on spinal vertebrae are small in size. Due to the lack of a large-scale annotated spine image dataset, the mainstream deep learning-based segmentation methods, which are data-driven, are heavily restricted. In this paper, we introduce a large-scale spine CT dataset, called CTSpine1K, curated from multiple sources for vertebra segmentation, which contains 1,005 CT volumes with over 11,100 labeled vertebrae belonging to different spinal conditions. Based on this dataset, we conduct several spinal vertebrae segmentation experiments to set the first benchmark. We believe that this large-scale dataset will facilitate further research in many spine-related image analysis tasks, including but not limited to vertebrae segmentation, labeling, 3D spine reconstruction from biplanar radiographs, image super-resolution, and enhancement.

Power grid data are going big with the deployment of various sensors. The big data in power grids creates huge opportunities for applying artificial intelligence technologies to improve resilience and reliability. This paper introduces multiple real-world applications based on artificial intelligence to improve power grid situational awareness and resilience. These applications include event identification, inertia estimation, event location and magnitude estimation, data authentication, control, and stability assessment. These applications are operating on a real-world system called FNET-GridEye, which is a wide-area measurement network and arguably the world-largest cyber-physical system that collects power grid big data. These applications showed much better performance compared with conventional approaches and accomplished new tasks that are impossible to realized using conventional technologies. These encouraging results demonstrate that combining power grid big data and artificial intelligence can uncover and capture the non-linear correlation between power grid data and its stabilities indices and will potentially enable many advanced applications that can significantly improve power grid resilience.

We focus on the task of generating sound from natural videos, and the sound should be both temporally and content-wise aligned with visual signals. This task is extremely challenging because some sounds generated \emph{outside} a camera can not be inferred from video content. The model may be forced to learn an incorrect map** between visual content and these irrelevant sounds. To address this challenge, we propose a framework named REGNET. In this framework, we first extract appearance and motion features from video frames to better distinguish the object that emits sound from complex background information. We then introduce an innovative audio forwarding regularizer that directly considers the real sound as input and outputs bottlenecked sound features. Using both visual and bottlenecked sound features for sound prediction during training provides stronger supervision for the sound prediction. The audio forwarding regularizer can control the irrelevant sound component and thus prevent the model from learning an incorrect map** between video frames and sound emitted by the object that is out of the screen. During testing, the audio forwarding regularizer is removed to ensure that REGNET can produce purely aligned sound only from visual features. Extensive evaluations based on Amazon Mechanical Turk demonstrate that our method significantly improves both temporal and content-wise alignment. Remarkably, our generated sound can fool the human with a 68.12% success rate. Code and pre-trained models are publicly available at https://github.com/PeihaoChen/regnet

A real-time ranging lidar with 0.1 Mega Hertz update rate and few-micrometer resolution incorporating dispersive Fourier transformation and instantaneous microwave frequency measurement is proposed and demonstrated. As time-stretched femtosecond laser pulse passing through an all-fiber Mach-Zehnder Interferometer, where the detection light beam is inserted into the optical path of one arm, the displacement is encoded to the frequency variation of the temporal interferogram. To deal with the challenges in storage and real-time processing of the microwave pulse generated on a photodetector, we turn to all-optical signal processing. A carrier wave is modulated by the time-domain interferogram using an intensity modulator. After that, the frequency variation of the microwave pulse is uploaded to the first order sidebands. Finally, the frequency shift of the sidebands is turned into transmission change through a symmetric-locked frequency discriminator. In experiment, A real-time ranging system with adjustable dynamic range and detection sensitivity is realized by incorporating a programmable optical filter. Standard deviation of 7.64 μm, overall mean error of 19.10 μm over 15 mm detection range and standard deviation of 37.73 μm, overall mean error of 36.63 μm over 45 mm detection range are obtained respectively.

In this paper, we consider the block-sparse signals recovery problem in the context of multiple measurement vectors (MMV) with common row sparsity patterns. We develop a new method for recovery of common row sparsity MMV signals, where a pattern-coupled hierarchical Gaussian prior model is introduced to characterize both the block-sparsity of the coefficients and the statistical dependency between neighboring coefficients of the common row sparsity MMV signals. Unlike many other methods, the proposed method is able to automatically capture the block sparse structure of the unknown signal. Our method is developed using an expectation-maximization (EM) framework. Simulation results show that our proposed method offers competitive performance in recovering block-sparse common row sparsity pattern MMV signals.

Due to the rapidly growing scale and heterogeneity of wireless networks, the design of distributed cross-layer optimization algorithms have received significant interest from the networking research community. So far, the standard distributed cross-layer approach in the literature is based on first-order Lagrangian dual decomposition and the subgradient method, which suffers a slow convergence rate. In this paper, we make the first known attempt to develop a distributed Newton's method, which is second-order and enjoys a quadratic convergence rate. However, due to interference in wireless networks, the Hessian matrix of the cross-layer problem has an non-separable structure. As a result, develo** a distributed second-order algorithm is far more challenging than its counterpart for wireline networks. Our main results in this paper are two-fold: i) For a special network setting where all links mutually interfere, we derive decentralized closed-form expressions to compute the Hessian inverse; ii) For general wireless networks where the interference relationships are arbitrary, we propose a distributed iterative matrix splitting scheme for the Hessian inverse. These results successfully lead to a new theoretical framework for cross-layer optimization in wireless networks. More importantly, our work contributes to an exciting second-order paradigm shift in wireless networks optimization theory.

This paper is concerned with a new type of differential game problems of forwardbackward stochastic systems. There are three distinguishing features: Firstly, our game systems are forward-backward doubly stochastic differential equations, which is a class of more general game systems than other forward-backward stochastic game systems without doubly stochastic terms; Secondly, forward equations are directly related to backward equations at initial time, not terminal time; Thirdly, the admissible control is required to be adapted to a sub-information of the full information generated by the underlying Brownian motions. We give a necessary and a sufficient conditions for both an equilibrium point of nonzero-sum games and a saddle point of zero-sum games. Finally, we work out an example of linear-quadratic nonzero-sum differential games to illustrate the theoretical applications. Applying some stochastic filtering techniques, we obtain the explicit expression of the equilibrium point.
