This paper proposes a joint active and passive beamforming design for reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided wireless communication systems, adopting a piece-wise near-field channel model. While a traditional near-field channel model, applied without any approximations, offers higher modeling accuracy than a far-field model, it renders the system design more sensitive to channel estimation errors (CEEs). As a remedy, we propose to adopt a piece-wise near-field channel model that leverages the advantages of the near-field approach while enhancing its robustness against CEEs. Our study analyzes the impact of different channel models, including the traditional near-field, the proposed piece-wise near-field and far-field channel models, on the interference distribution caused by CEEs and model mismatches. Subsequently, by treating the interference as noise, we formulate a joint active and passive beamforming design problem to maximize the spectral efficiency (SE). The formulated problem is then recast as a mean squared error (MSE) minimization problem and a suboptimal algorithm is developed to iteratively update the active and passive beamforming strategies. Simulation results demonstrate that adopting the piece-wise near-field channel model leads to an improved SE compared to both the near-field and far-field models in the presence of CEEs. Furthermore, the proposed piece-wise near-field model achieves a good trade-off between modeling accuracy and system's degrees of freedom (DoF).

A novel modular extremely large-scale multiple-input-multiple-output (XL-MIMO) integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) framework is proposed in this paper. We consider a downlink ISAC scenario and exploit the modular array architecture to enhance the communication spectral efficiency and sensing resolution while reducing the channel modeling complexity by employing the hybrid spherical and planar wavefront model. Considering the hybrid digital-analog structure inherent to modular arrays, we formulate a joint analog-digital beamforming design problem based on the communication spectral efficiency and sensing signal-to-clutter-plus-noise ratio (SCNR). By exploring the structural similarity of the communication and sensing channels, it is proved that the optimal transmit covariance matrix lies in the subspace spanned by the subarray response vectors, yielding a closed-form solution for the optimal analog beamformer. Consequently, the joint design problem is transformed into a low-dimensional rank-constrained digital beamformer optimization. We first propose a manifold optimization method that directly optimizes the digital beamformer on the rank-constrained Stiefel manifold. Additionally, we develop an semidefinite relaxation (SDR)-based approach that relaxes the rank constraint and employ the randomization technique to obtain a near-optimal solution. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed modular XL-MIMO ISAC framework and algorithms.

We introduce Seed-TTS, a family of large-scale autoregressive text-to-speech (TTS) models capable of generating speech that is virtually indistinguishable from human speech. Seed-TTS serves as a foundation model for speech generation and excels in speech in-context learning, achieving performance in speaker similarity and naturalness that matches ground truth human speech in both objective and subjective evaluations. With fine-tuning, we achieve even higher subjective scores across these metrics. Seed-TTS offers superior controllability over various speech attributes such as emotion and is capable of generating highly expressive and diverse speech for speakers in the wild. Furthermore, we propose a self-distillation method for speech factorization, as well as a reinforcement learning approach to enhance model robustness, speaker similarity, and controllability. We additionally present a non-autoregressive (NAR) variant of the Seed-TTS model, named $\text{Seed-TTS}_\text{DiT}$, which utilizes a fully diffusion-based architecture. Unlike previous NAR-based TTS systems, $\text{Seed-TTS}_\text{DiT}$ does not depend on pre-estimated phoneme durations and performs speech generation through end-to-end processing. We demonstrate that this variant achieves comparable performance to the language model-based variant and showcase its effectiveness in speech editing. We encourage readers to listen to demos at \url{https://bytedancespeech.github.io/seedtts_tech_report}.

Recently, studies have shown the potential of integrating field-type iterative methods with deep learning (DL) techniques in solving inverse scattering problems (ISPs). In this article, we propose a novel Variational Born Iterative Network, namely, VBIM-Net, to solve the full-wave ISPs with significantly improved flexibility and inversion quality. The proposed VBIM-Net emulates the alternating updates of the total electric field and the contrast in the variational Born iterative method (VBIM) by multiple layers of subnetworks. We embed the calculation of the contrast variation into each of the subnetworks, converting the scattered field residual into an approximate contrast variation and then enhancing it by a U-Net, thus avoiding the requirement of matched measurement dimension and grid resolution as in existing approaches. The total field and contrast of each layer's output is supervised in the loss function of VBIM-Net, which guarantees the physical interpretability of variables of the subnetworks. In addition, we design a training scheme with extra noise to enhance the model's stability. Extensive numerical results on synthetic and experimental data both verify the inversion quality, generalization ability, and robustness of the proposed VBIM-Net. This work may provide some new inspiration for the design of efficient field-type DL schemes.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is envisioned as a key pillar for enabling the upcoming sixth generation (6G) communication systems, requiring not only reliable communication functionalities but also highly accurate environmental sensing capabilities. In this paper, we design a novel networked ISAC framework to explore the collaboration among multiple users for environmental sensing. Specifically, multiple users can serve as powerful sensors, capturing back scattered signals from a target at various angles to facilitate reliable computational imaging. Centralized sensing approaches are extremely sensitive to the capability of the leader node because it requires the leader node to process the signals sent by all the users. To this end, we propose a two-step distributed cooperative sensing algorithm that allows low-dimensional intermediate estimate exchange among neighboring users, thus eliminating the reliance on the centralized leader node and improving the robustness of sensing. This way, multiple users can cooperatively sense a target by exploiting the block-wise environment sparsity and the interference cancellation technique. Furthermore, we analyze the mean square error of the proposed distributed algorithm as a networked sensing performance metric and propose a beamforming design for the proposed network ISAC scheme to maximize the networked sensing accuracy and communication performance subject to a transmit power constraint. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm compared with the state-of-the-art algorithms.

In the evolution towards the forthcoming era of sixth-generation (6G) mobile communication systems characterized by ubiquitous intelligence, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is in a phase of burgeoning development. However, the capabilities of communication and sensing within single frequency band fall short of meeting the escalating demands. To this end, this paper introduces a carrier aggregation (CA)- enabled multi-input multi-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) ISAC system fusing the sensing data on high and low-frequency bands by symbol-level fusion for ultimate communication experience and high-accuracy sensing. The challenges in sensing signal processing introduced by CA include the initial phase misalignment of the echo signals on high and low-frequency bands due to attenuation and radar cross section, and the fusion of the sensing data on high and lowfrequency bands with different physical-layer parameters. To this end, the sensing signal processing is decomposed into two stages. In the first stage, the problem of initial phase misalignment of the echo signals on high and low-frequency bands is solved by the angle compensation, space-domain diversity and vector crosscorrelation operations. In the second stage, this paper realizes symbol-level fusion of the sensing data on high and low-frequency bands through sensing vector rearrangement and cyclic prefix adjustment operations, thereby obtaining high-precision sensing performance. Then, the closed-form communication mutual information (MI) and sensing Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) for the proposed ISAC system are derived to explore the theoretical performance bound with CA. Simulation results validate the feasibility and superiority of the proposed ISAC system.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is a potential technology of the sixth-generation (6G) mobile communication system, which enables communication base station (BS) with sensing capability. However, the performance of single-BS sensing is limited, which can be overcome by multi-BS cooperative sensing. There are three types of multi-BS cooperative sensing, including cooperative active sensing, cooperative passive sensing, and cooperative active and passive sensing, where the multi-BS cooperative passive sensing has the advantages of low hardware modification cost and large sensing coverage. However, multi-BS cooperative passive sensing faces the challenges of synchronization offsets mitigation and sensing information fusion. To address these challenges, a non-line of sight (NLoS) and line of sight (LoS) signal cross-correlation (NLCC) method is proposed to mitigate carrier frequency offset (CFO) and time offset (TO). Besides, a symbol-level multi-BS sensing information fusion method is proposed. The discrete samplings of echo signals from multiple BSs are matched independently and coherent accumulated to improve sensing accuracy. Moreover, a lowcomplexity joint angle-of-arrival (AoA) and angle-of-departure (AoD) estimation method is proposed to reduce the computational complexity. Simulation results show that symbol-level multi-BS cooperative passive sensing scheme has an order of magnitude higher sensing accuracy than single-BS passive sensing. This work provides a reference for the research on multi-BS cooperative passive sensing.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is an enabling technology for the sixth-generation mobile communications, which equips the wireless communication networks with sensing capabilities. In this paper, we investigate transmit beamforming design for multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO)-ISAC systems in scenarios with multiple radar targets and communication users. A general form of multi-target sensing mutual information (MI) is derived, along with its upper bound, which can be interpreted as the sum of individual single-target sensing MI. Additionally, this upper bound can be achieved by suppressing the cross-correlation among reflected signals from different targets, which aligns with the principles of adaptive MIMO radar. Then, we propose a multi-objective optimization framework based on the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio of each user and the tight upper bound of sensing MI, introducing the Pareto boundary to characterize the achievable communication-sensing performance boundary of the proposed ISAC system. To achieve the Pareto boundary, the max-min system utility function method is employed, while considering the fairness between communication users and radar targets. Subsequently, the bisection search method is employed to find a specific Pareto optimal solution by solving a series of convex feasible problems. Finally, simulation results validate that the proposed method achieves a better tradeoff between multi-user communication and multi-target sensing performance. Additionally, utilizing the tight upper bound of sensing MI as a performance metric can enhance the multi-target resolution capability and angle estimation accuracy.

Addressing the communication and sensing demands of sixth-generation (6G) mobile communication system, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has garnered traction in academia and industry. With the sensing limitation of single base station (BS), multi-BS cooperative sensing is regarded as a promising solution. The coexistence and overlapped coverage of macro BS (MBS) and micro BS (MiBS) are common in the development of 6G, making the cooperative sensing between MBS and MiBS feasible. Since MBS and MiBS work in low and high frequency bands, respectively, the challenges of MBS and MiBS cooperative sensing lie in the fusion method of the sensing information in high and low-frequency bands. To this end, this paper introduces a symbol-level fusion method and a grid-based three-dimensional discrete Fourier transform (3D-GDFT) algorithm to achieve precise localization of multiple targets with limited resources. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed MBS and MiBS cooperative sensing scheme outperforms traditional single BS (MBS/MiBS) sensing scheme, showcasing superior sensing performance

To achieve this crucial functionality, we propose a deep learning based multi-node ISAC 4D environment reconstruction method with Uplink-Downlink (UL-DL) cooperation, which employs virtual aperture technology, Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) detection, and Mutiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm to maximize the sensing capabilities of single sensing nodes. Simultaneously, it introduces a cooperative environmental reconstruction scheme involving multi-node cooperation and Uplink-Downlink (UL-DL) cooperation to overcome the limitations of single-node sensing caused by occlusion and limited viewpoints. Furthermore, the deep learning models Attention Gate Gridding Residual Neural Network (AGGRNN) and Multi-View Sensing Fusion Network (MVSFNet) to enhance the density of sparsely reconstructed point clouds are proposed, aiming to restore as many original environmental details as possible while preserving the spatial structure of the point cloud. To glean the benefits offered by massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems, channel state information must be accurately acquired. Despite the high accuracy, the computational complexity of classical linear minimum mean squared error (MMSE) estimator becomes prohibitively high in the context of massive MIMO, while the other low-complexity methods degrade the estimation accuracy seriously. In this paper, we develop a novel rank-1 subspace channel estimator to approximate the maximum likelihood (ML) estimator, which outperforms the linear MMSE estimator, but incurs a surprisingly low computational complexity. Our method first acquires the highly accurate angle-of-arrival (AoA) information via a constructed space-embedding matrix and the rank-1 subspace method. Then, it adopts the post-reception beamforming to acquire the unbiased estimate of channel gains. Furthermore, a fast method is designed to implement our new estimator. Theoretical analysis shows that the extra gain achieved by our method over the linear MMSE estimator grows according to the rule of O($\log_{10}M$), while its computational complexity is linearly scalable to the number of antennas $M$. Numerical simulations also validate the theoretical results. Our new method substantially extends the accuracy-complexity region and constitutes a promising channel estimation solution to the emerging massive MIMO communications.

Due to the low sensing accuracy of single base stations (BSs), a cooperative UAV sensing method by multi-BS is proposed in this paper to achieve high-accuracy sensing. Specifically, a multiple signal classification (MUSIC)-based symbol-level fusion method is proposed for UAV localization and velocity estimation, consisting of a single-BS preprocessing step and a lattice points searching step. The preprocessing procedure enhances the single-BS accuracy by superposing multiple spectral functions, thereby establishing a reference value for subsequent lattice points searching. Furthermore, the lattice point with minimal error compared to the preprocessing results is determined as the fusion result. Extensive simulation results reveal that the proposed symbol-level fusion method outperforms the benchmarking methods in localization and velocity estimation.

This paper provides a comprehensive review of the NTIRE 2024 challenge, focusing on efficient single-image super-resolution (ESR) solutions and their outcomes. The task of this challenge is to super-resolve an input image with a magnification factor of x4 based on pairs of low and corresponding high-resolution images. The primary objective is to develop networks that optimize various aspects such as runtime, parameters, and FLOPs, while still maintaining a peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of approximately 26.90 dB on the DIV2K_LSDIR_valid dataset and 26.99 dB on the DIV2K_LSDIR_test dataset. In addition, this challenge has 4 tracks including the main track (overall performance), sub-track 1 (runtime), sub-track 2 (FLOPs), and sub-track 3 (parameters). In the main track, all three metrics (ie runtime, FLOPs, and parameter count) were considered. The ranking of the main track is calculated based on a weighted sum-up of the scores of all other sub-tracks. In sub-track 1, the practical runtime performance of the submissions was evaluated, and the corresponding score was used to determine the ranking. In sub-track 2, the number of FLOPs was considered. The score calculated based on the corresponding FLOPs was used to determine the ranking. In sub-track 3, the number of parameters was considered. The score calculated based on the corresponding parameters was used to determine the ranking. RLFN is set as the baseline for efficiency measurement. The challenge had 262 registered participants, and 34 teams made valid submissions. They gauge the state-of-the-art in efficient single-image super-resolution. The recently proposed orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation, which is a typical Delay-Doppler (DD) communication scheme, has attracted significant attention thanks to its appealing performance over doubly-selective channels. In this paper, we present the fundamentals of general DD communications from the viewpoint of the Zak transform. We start our study by constructing DD domain basis functions aligning with the time-frequency (TF)-consistency condition, which are globally quasi-periodic and locally twisted-shifted. We unveil that these features are translated to unique signal structures in both time and frequency, which are beneficial for communication purposes. Then, we focus on the practical implementations of DD Nyquist communications, where we show that rectangular windows achieve perfect DD orthogonality, while truncated periodic signals can obtain sufficient DD orthogonality. Particularly, smoothed rectangular window with excess bandwidth can result in a slightly worse orthogonality but better pulse localization in the DD domain. Furthermore, we present a practical pulse sha** framework for general DD communications and derive the corresponding input-output relation under various sha** pulses. Our numerical results agree with our derivations and also demonstrate advantages of DD communications over conventional orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM).

Volumetric optical microscopy using non-diffracting beams enables rapid imaging of 3D volumes by projecting them axially to 2D images but lacks crucial depth information. Addressing this, we introduce MicroDiffusion, a pioneering tool facilitating high-quality, depth-resolved 3D volume reconstruction from limited 2D projections. While existing Implicit Neural Representation (INR) models often yield incomplete outputs and Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Models (DDPM) excel at capturing details, our method integrates INR's structural coherence with DDPM's fine-detail enhancement capabilities. We pretrain an INR model to transform 2D axially-projected images into a preliminary 3D volume. This pretrained INR acts as a global prior guiding DDPM's generative process through a linear interpolation between INR outputs and noise inputs. This strategy enriches the diffusion process with structured 3D information, enhancing detail and reducing noise in localized 2D images. By conditioning the diffusion model on the closest 2D projection, MicroDiffusion substantially enhances fidelity in resulting 3D reconstructions, surpassing INR and standard DDPM outputs with unparalleled image quality and structural fidelity. In the microscopic perspective, namely, within a single node, the sensing information carried by time-frequency-space-code domain resources is processed, such as phase compensation, coherent accumulation and other operations, thereby improving the sensing accuracy. In the mesoscopic perspective, the sensing accuracy could be improved through the cooperation of multiple nodes. We explore various multi-node cooperative sensing scenarios and present the corresponding challenges and future research trends. In the macroscopic perspective, the massive number of infrastructures from the same operator or different operators could perform cooperative sensing to extend the sensing coverage and improve the sensing continuity. We investigate network architecture, target tracking methods, and the large-scale sensing assisted digital twin construction. Simulation results demonstrate the superiority of multi-nodes and multi-resources cooperative sensing over single resource or node sensing. This article may provide a deep and comprehensive view on the cooperative sensing in ISAC system to enhance the performance of sensing, supporting the applications of IoE.

Intelligent machines (IMs), including industrial machines, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and unmanned vehicles, etc., could perform effective cooperation in complex environment when they form IM network. The efficient environment sensing and communication are crucial for IM network, enabling the real-time and stable control of IMs. With the emergence of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) technology, IM network is empowered with ubiquitous sensing capabilities, which is helpful in improving the efficiency of communication and sensing with the mutual benefit of them. However, the massive amount of sensing information brings challenges for the processing, storage and application of sensing information. In this article, ISAC driven digital twin (DT) is proposed for IM network, and the architecture and enabling technologies are revealed. ISAC driven DT structurally stores the sensing information, which is further applied to optimize communication, networking and control schemes of IMs, promoting the widespread applications of IMs.

Traditional physical layer secure beamforming is achieved via precoding before signal transmission using channel state information (CSI). However, imperfect CSI will compromise the performance with imperfect beamforming and potential information leakage. In addition, multiple RF chains and antennas are needed to support the narrow beam generation, which complicates hardware implementation and is not suitable for resource-constrained Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices. Moreover, with the advancement of hardware and artificial intelligence (AI), low-cost and intelligent eavesdrop** to wireless communications is becoming increasingly detrimental. In this paper, we propose a multi-carrier based multi-band waveform-defined security (WDS) framework, independent from CSI and RF chains, to defend against AI eavesdrop**. Ideally, the continuous variations of sub-band structures lead to an infinite number of spectral features, which can potentially prevent brute-force eavesdrop**. Sub-band spectral pattern information is efficiently constructed at legitimate users via a proposed chaotic sequence generator. A novel security metric, termed signal classification accuracy (SCA), is used to evaluate the security robustness under AI eavesdrop**. Communication error probability and complexity are also investigated to show the reliability and practical capability of the proposed framework. Finally, compared to traditional secure beamforming techniques, the proposed multi-band WDS framework reduces power consumption by up to six times.

This paper investigates the bit error rate (BER) minimum pre-coder design for an orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS)-based integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) system, which is considered as a promising technique for enabling future wireless networks. In particular, the BER minimum problem takes into account the maximized available transmission power and the required sensing performance. We devise the precoder from the perspective of delay-Doppler (DD) domain by exploiting the equivalent DD channel. To address the non-convex design problem, we resort to minimizing the lower bound of the derived average BER. Afterwards, we propose a computationally iterative method to solve the dual problem at low cost. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of our proposed precoder and reveal the interplay between sensing and communication for dual-functional precoder design.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is considered as the potential key technology of the future mobile communication systems. The signal design is fundamental for the ISAC system. The reference signals in mobile communication systems have good detection performance, which is worth further research. Existing studies applied the single reference signal to radar sensing. In this paper, a multiple reference signals collaborative sensing scheme is designed. Specifically, we jointly apply channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS), positioning reference signal (PRS) and demodulation reference signal (DMRS) in radar sensing, which improve the performance of radar sensing via obtaining continuous time-frequency resource map**. Crámer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) of the joint reference signal for distance and velocity estimation is derived. The impacts of carrier frequency and subcarrier spacing on the performance of distance and velocity estimation are revealed. The results of simulation experiments show that compared with the single reference signal sensing scheme, the multiple reference signals collaborative sensing scheme effectively improves the sensing accuracy. Moreover, because of the discontinuous OFDM symbols, the accuracy of velocity estimation could be further improved via compressed sensing (CS). This paper has verified that multiple reference signals, instead of single reference signal, have much more superior performance on radar sensing, which is a practical and efficient approach in designing ISAC signal.

Perceptive mobile network (PMN) is an emerging concept for next-generation wireless networks capable of conducting integrated sensing and communication (ISAC). A major challenge for realizing high performance sensing in PMNs is how to deal with spatially separated asynchronous transceivers. Asynchronicity results in timing offsets (TOs) and carrier frequency offsets (CFOs), which further cause ambiguity in ranging and velocity sensing. Most existing algorithms mitigate TOs and CFOs based on the line-of-sight (LOS) propagation path between sensing transceivers. However, LOS paths may not exist in realistic scenarios. In this paper, we propose a cooperation based joint active and passive sensing scheme for the non-LOS (NLOS) scenarios having asynchronous transceivers. This scheme relies on the cross-correlation cooperative sensing (CCCS) algorithm, which regards active sensing as a reference and mitigates TOs and CFOs by correlating active and passive sensing information. Another major challenge for realizing high performance sensing in PMNs is how to realize high accuracy angle-of-arrival (AoA) estimation with low complexity. Correspondingly, we propose a low complexity AoA algorithm based on cooperative sensing, which comprises coarse AoA estimation and fine AoA estimation. Analytical and numerical simulation results verify the performance advantages of the proposed CCCS algorithm and the low complexity AoA estimation algorithm.

In this paper, we propose a joint single-base localization and communication enhancement scheme for the uplink (UL) integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) system with asynchronism, which can achieve accurate single-base localization of user equipment (UE) and significantly improve the communication reliability despite the existence of timing offset (TO) due to the clock asynchronism between UE and base station (BS). Our proposed scheme integrates the CSI enhancement into the multiple signal classification (MUSIC)-based AoA estimation and thus imposes no extra complexity on the ISAC system. We further exploit a MUSIC-based range estimation method and prove that it can suppress the time-varying TO-related phase terms. Exploiting the AoA and range estimation of UE, we can estimate the location of UE. Finally, we propose a joint CSI and data signals-based localization scheme that can coherently exploit the data and the CSI signals to improve the AoA and range estimation, which further enhances the single-base localization of UE. The extensive simulation results show that the enhanced CSI can achieve equivalent bit error rate performance to the minimum mean square error (MMSE) CSI estimator. The proposed joint CSI and data signals-based localization scheme can achieve decimeter-level localization accuracy despite the existing clock asynchronism and improve the localization mean square error (MSE) by about 8 dB compared with the maximum likelihood (ML)-based benchmark method.

In last decades, dynamic resource programming in partial resource domains has been extensively investigated for single time slot optimizations. However, with the emerging real-time media applications in fifth-generation communications, their new quality of service requirements are often measured in temporal dimension. This requires multistage optimization for full resource domain dynamic programming. Taking experience rate as a typical temporal multistage metric, we jointly optimize time, frequency, space and power domains resource for multistage optimization. To strike a good tradeoff between system performance and computational complexity, we first transform the formulated mixed integer non-linear constraints into equivalent convex second order cone constraints, by exploiting the coupling effect among the resources. Leveraging the concept of structural sparsity, the objective of max-min experience rate is given as a weighted 1-norm term associated with the precoding matrix. Finally, a low-complexity iterative algorithm is proposed for full resource domain programming, aided by another simple conic optimization for obtaining its feasible initial result. Simulation verifies that our design significantly outperform the benchmarks while maintaining a fast convergence rate, shedding light on full domain dynamic resource programming of multistage optimizations.

Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET), supporting Machine-Type Communication(MTC), has a strong demand for rapid networking. Neighbor Discovery (ND) is a key initial step in configuring MANETs and faces a serious challenge in decreasing convergence time. Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), as one of the potential key technologies in the 6th Generation (6G) mobile networks, can obtain the sensing data as the priori information to accelerate ND convergence. In order to further reduce the convergence time of ND, this paper introduces the ISAC-enabled gossip mechanism into the ND algorithm. The prior information acquired by ISAC reduces the information redundancy brought by the gossip mechanism and thus decreases the probability of collision, which further improves convergence speed. The average number of discovered nodes within a given period is derived, which is applied as the critical metric to evaluate the performance of ND algorithms. The simulation results confirm the correctness of the theoretical derivation and show that the interplay between the prior mechanisms and the gossip mechanism significantly reduces the convergence time. In addition, to solve the problem of imperfect sensing information, reinforcement learning is applied. Under the constraints of the convergence condition, the non-Reply and non-Stop Algorithm based on Gossip and Q-learning (GQ-nRnS) proposed in this paper not only ensures the completeness of ND, but also maintains a high convergence speed of ND. Compared with the Q-learning-based ND algorithm (Q-ND), the average convergence time of the GQ-nRnS algorithm is reduced by about 66.4%.

Utilizing infrastructure such as 5G Base Stations (BS) to realize environmental imaging and reconstruction is important for promoting the construction of smart cities. As a promising key technology of 6th generation (6G) mobile communication system, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) technology aims to make full use of spectrum resources to enable the functional integration of communication and sensing. The ISAC-enabled mobile communication system regularly operate in non-continuous spectrum bands due to crowded licensed frequency bands. However, the conventional sensing algorithms over non-continuous spectrum bands have disadvantages such as reduced peak-to-side lobe ratio (PSLR) and degraded anti-noise performance. Facing this challenge, we propose a high-precision ISAC signal processing algorithm based on compressed sensing (CS) in this paper. By integrating the resource block group (RBG) configuration information in 5th generation new radio (5G NR) and channel information matrices, we can dynamically and accurately obtain power estimation spectra. The future mobile communication systems will support intelligent applications such as Internet of Vehicles (IoV) and Extended Reality (XR). Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) is regarded as one of the key technologies satisfying the high data rate communication and highly accurate sensing for these intelligent applications in future mobile communication systems. With the explosive growth of wireless devices and services, the shortage of spectrum resources leads to the fragmentation of available frequency bands for ISAC systems, which degrades sensing performance. Due to the high mobility and easy deployment, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have attracted much attention in the field of wireless communication and positioning. To meet the challenges of lack of infrastructure coverage, uncertain sensor position and large amount of sensing data collection in wireless sensor network (WSN), this paper presents an efficient joint data collection and sensor positioning scheme for WSN supported by multiple UAVs. Specifically, a UAV is set as the main UAV to collect data, and other UAVs are used as auxiliary UAVs for sensor positioning using time difference of arrival (TDoA). A mixed-integer non-convex optimization problem with uncertain sensor position is established. The goal is to minimize the average positioning error of all sensors by jointly optimizing the UAV trajectories, sensor transmission schedule and positioning observation points (POPs). To solve this optimization model, the original problem is decomposed into two sub-problems based on the path discrete method. Firstly, the block coordinate descent (BCD) and successive convex approximation (SCA) techniques are applied to iteratively optimize the trajectory of the main UAV and the sensor transmission schedule, so as to maximize the minimum amount of data uploaded by the sensor. Then, based on the trajectory of the main UAV, a particle swarm optimization (PSO)-based algorithm is designed to optimize the POPs of UAVs. Finally, the spline curve is applied to generate the trajectories of auxiliary UAVs. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can meet the requirements of data collection and has a good positioning performance.

In unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) networks, high-capacity data transmission is of utmost importance for applications such as intelligent transportation, smart cities, and forest monitoring, which rely on the mobility of UAVs to collect and transmit large amount of data, including video and image data. Due to the short flight time of UAVs, the network capacity will be reduced when they return to the ground unit for charging. Hence, we suggest that UAVs can apply a store-carry-and-forward (SCF) transmission mode to carry packets on their way back to the ground unit for improving network throughput. In this paper, we propose a novel protocol, named UAV delay-tolerant multiple access control (UD-MAC), which can support different transmission modes in UAV networks. With the support of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) technology, mobile communication system will integrate the function of wireless sensing, thereby facilitating new intelligent applications such as smart city and intelligent transportation. Due to the limited sensing accuracy and sensing range of single base station (BS), multi-BS cooperative sensing can be applied to realize high-accurate, long-range and continuous sensing, exploiting the specific advantages of large-scale networked mobile communication system. This paper proposes a cooperative sensing method suitable to mobile communication systems, which applies symbol-level sensing information fusion to estimate the location and velocity of target. With the demodulation symbols obtained from the echo signals of multiple BSs, the phase features contained in the demodulation symbols are used in the fusion procedure, which realizes cooperative sensing with the synchronization level of mobile communication system. Compared with the signal-level fusion in the area of distributed aperture coherence-synthetic radars, the requirement of synchronization is much lower. When signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is -5 dB, it is evaluated that symbol-level multi-BS cooperative sensing effectively improves the accuracy of distance and velocity estimation of target. Compared with single-BS sensing, the accuracy of distance and velocity estimation is improved by 40% and 72%, respectively. Compared with data-level multi-BS cooperative sensing based on maximum likelihood (ML) estimation, the accuracy of location and velocity estimation is improved by 12% and 63%, respectively. This work may provide a guideline for the design of multi-BS cooperative sensing system to exploit the widely deployed networked mobile communication system.

5th Generation (5G) mobile communication systems operating at around 28 GHz have the potential to be applied to simultaneous localization and map** (SLAM). Most existing 5G SLAM studies estimate environment as many point targets, instead of extended targets. In this paper, we focus on the performance analysis of 5G SLAM for multiple extended targets. To evaluate the map** performance of multiple extended targets, a new map** error metric, named extended targets generalized optimal sub-pattern assignment (ET-GOPSA), is proposed in this paper. Compared with the existing metrics, ET-GOPSA not only considers the accuracy error of target estimation, the cost of missing detection, the cost of false detection, but also the cost of matching the estimated point with the extended target. To evaluate the performance of 5G signal in SLAM, we analyze and simulate the map** error of 5G signal sensing by ET-GOPSA. Simulation results show that, under the condition of SNR = 10 dB, 5G signal sensing can barely meet to meet the requirements of SLAM for multiple extended targets with the carrier frequency of 28 GHz, the bandwidth of 1.23 GHz, and the antenna size of 32.

Non-line-of-sight (NLOS) imaging allows for the imaging of objects around a corner, which enables potential applications in various fields such as autonomous driving, robotic vision, medical imaging, security monitoring, etc. However, the quality of reconstruction is challenged by low signal-noise-ratio (SNR) measurements. In this study, we present a regularization method, referred to as structure sparsity (SS) regularization, for denoising in NLOS reconstruction. By exploiting the prior knowledge of structure sparseness, we incorporate nuclear norm penalization into the cost function of directional light-cone transform (DLCT) model for NLOS imaging system. This incorporation effectively integrates the neighborhood information associated with the directional albedo, thereby facilitating the denoising process. Subsequently, the reconstruction is achieved by optimizing a directional albedo model with SS regularization using fast iterative shrinkage-thresholding algorithm. Notably, the robust reconstruction of occluded objects is observed. Through comprehensive evaluations conducted on both synthetic and experimental datasets, we demonstrate that the proposed approach yields high-quality reconstructions, surpassing the state-of-the-art reconstruction algorithms, especially in scenarios involving short exposure and low SNR measurements.

Channel estimation (CE) plays a key role in reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems, while it poses a challenging task due to the passive nature of RIS and the cascaded channel structures. In this paper, a partially decoupled atomic norm minimization (PDANM) framework is proposed for CE of RIS-aided MIMO systems, which exploits the three-dimensional angular sparsity of the channel. In particular, PDANM partially decouples the differential angles at the RIS from other angles at the base station and user equipment, reducing the computational complexity compared with existing methods. A reweighted PDANM (RPDANM) algorithm is proposed to further improve CE accuracy, which iteratively refines CE through a specifically designed reweighing strategy. Building upon RPDANM, we propose an iterative approach named RPDANM with adaptive phase control (RPDANM-APC), which adaptively adjusts the RIS phases based on previously estimated channel parameters to facilitate CE, achieving superior CE accuracy while reducing training overhead. Numerical simulations demonstrate the superiority of our proposed approaches in terms of running time, CE accuracy, and training overhead. In particular, the RPDANM-APC approach can achieve higher CE accuracy than existing methods within less than 40 percent training overhead while reducing the running time by tens of times.

This paper addresses the problem of direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation for constant modulus (CM) source signals using a uniform or sparse linear array. Existing methods typically exploit either the Vandermonde structure of the steering matrix or the CM structure of source signals only. In this paper, we propose a structured matrix recovery technique (SMART) for CM DOA estimation via fully exploiting the two structures. In particular, we reformulate the highly nonconvex CM DOA estimation problems in the noiseless and noisy cases as equivalent rank-constrained Hankel-Toeplitz matrix recovery problems, in which the Vandermonde structure is captured by a series of Hankel-Toeplitz block matrices, of which the number equals the number of snapshots, and the CM structure is guaranteed by letting the block matrices share a same Toeplitz submatrix. The alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is applied to solve the resulting rank-constrained problems and the DOAs are uniquely retrieved from the numerical solution. Extensive simulations are carried out to corroborate our analysis and confirm that the proposed SMART outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of the maximum number of locatable sources and statistical efficiency.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) will greatly enhance the efficiency of physical resource utilization. The design of ISAC signal based on the orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) signal is the mainstream. However, when detecting the long-range target, the delay of echo signal exceeds CP duration, which will result in inter-symbol interference (ISI) and inter-carrier interference (ICI), limiting the sensing range. Facing the above problem, we propose to increase useful signal power through coherent compensation and improve the signal to interference plus noise power ratio (SINR) of each OFDM block. Compared with the traditional 2D-FFT algorithm, the improvement of SINR of range-doppler map (RDM) is verified by simulation, which will expand the sensing range.

Flying ad hoc networks (FANETs) play a crucial role in numerous military and civil applications since it shortens mission duration and enhances coverage significantly compared with a single unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Whereas, designing an energy-efficient FANET routing protocol with a high packet delivery rate (PDR) and low delay is challenging owing to the dynamic topology changes. In this article, we propose a topology-aware resilient routing strategy based on adaptive Q-learning (TARRAQ) to accurately capture topology changes with low overhead and make routing decisions in a distributed and autonomous way. First, we analyze the dynamic behavior of UAV nodes via the queuing theory, and then the closed-form solutions of neighbors' change rate (NCR) and neighbors' change interarrival time (NCIT) distribution are derived. Based on the real-time NCR and NCIT, a resilient sensing interval (SI) is determined by defining the expected sensing delay of network events. Besides, we also present an adaptive Q-learning approach that enables UAVs to make distributed, autonomous, and adaptive routing decisions, where the above SI ensures that the action space can be updated in time at a low cost. The simulation results verify the accuracy of the topology dynamic analysis model and also prove that our TARRAQ outperforms the Q-learning-based topology-aware routing (QTAR), mobility prediction-based virtual routing (MPVR), and greedy perimeter stateless routing based on energy-efficient hello (EE-Hello) in terms of 25.23%, 20.24%, and 13.73% lower overhead, 9.41%, 14.77%, and 16.70% higher PDR, and 5.12%, 15.65%, and 11.31% lower energy consumption, respectively.

The flying ad hoc network (FANET) will play a crucial role in the B5G/6G era since it provides wide coverage and on-demand deployment services in a distributed manner. The detection of Sybil attacks is essential to ensure trusted communication in FANET. Nevertheless, the conventional methods only utilize the untrusted information that UAV nodes passively ``heard'' from the ``auditory" domain (AD), resulting in severe communication disruptions and even collision accidents. In this paper, we present a novel VA-matching solution that matches the neighbors observed from both the AD and the ``visual'' domain (VD), which is the first solution that enables UAVs to accurately correlate what they ``see'' from VD and ``hear'' from AD to detect the Sybil attacks. Relative entropy is utilized to describe the similarity of observed characteristics from dual domains. The dynamic weight algorithm is proposed to distinguish neighbors according to the characteristics' popularity. The matching model of neighbors observed from AD and VD is established and solved by the vampire bat optimizer. Experiment results show that the proposed VA-matching solution removes the unreliability of individual characteristics and single domains. It significantly outperforms the conventional RSSI-based method in detecting Sybil attacks. Furthermore, it has strong robustness and achieves high precision and recall rates.

Deep learning-assisted antenna design methods such as surrogate models have gained significant popularity in recent years due to their potential to greatly increase design efficiencies by replacing the time-consuming full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulations. However, a large number of training data with sufficiently diverse and representative samples (antenna structure parameters, scattering properties, etc.) is mandatory for these methods to ensure good performance. Traditional antenna modeling methods relying on manual model construction and modification are time-consuming and cannot meet the requirement of efficient training data acquisition. In this study, we proposed a deep learning-assisted and image-based intelligent modeling approach for accelerating the data acquisition of antenna samples with different physical structures. Specifically, our method only needs an image of the antenna structure, usually available in scientific publications, as the input while the corresponding modeling codes (VBA language) are generated automatically. The proposed model mainly consists of two parts: Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) networks. The former is used for capturing features of antenna structure images and the latter is employed to generate the modeling codes. Through training, the proposed model can achieve fast and automatic data acquisition of antenna physical structures based on antenna images. Experiment results show that the proposed method achieves a significant speed enhancement than the manual modeling approach. This approach lays the foundation for efficient data acquisition needed to build robust surrogate models in the future.

Self-assembled InAs/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) have properties highly valuable for develo** various optoelectronic devices such as QD lasers and single photon sources. The applications strongly rely on the density and quality of these dots, which has motivated studies of the growth process control to realize high-quality epi-wafers and devices. Establishing the process parameters in molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) for a specific density of QDs is a multidimensional optimization challenge, usually addressed through time-consuming and iterative trial-and-error. Here, we report a real-time feedback control method to realize the growth of QDs with arbitrary density, which is fully automated and intelligent. We developed a machine learning (ML) model named 3D ResNet 50 trained using reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) videos as input instead of static images and providing real-time feedback on surface morphologies for process control. As a result, we demonstrated that ML from previous growth could predict the post-growth density of QDs, by successfully tuning the QD densities in near-real time from 1.5E10 cm-2 down to 3.8E8 cm-2 or up to 1.4E11 cm-2. Compared to traditional methods, our approach, with in situ tuning capabilities and excellent reliability, can dramatically expedite the material optimization process and improve the reproducibility of MBE, constituting significant progress for thin film growth techniques. The concepts and methodologies proved feasible in this work are promising to be applied to a variety of material growth processes, which will revolutionize semiconductor manufacturing for optoelectronic and microelectronic industries.

In this paper, we study the pulse sha** for delay-Doppler (DD) communications. We start with constructing a basis function in the DD domain following the properties of the Zak transform. Particularly, we show that the constructed basis functions are globally quasi-periodic while locally twisted-shifted, and their significance in time and frequency domains are then revealed. We further analyze the ambiguity function of the basis function, and show that fully localized ambiguity function can be achieved by constructing the basis function using periodic signals. More importantly, we prove that time and frequency truncating such basis functions naturally leads to approximate delay and Doppler orthogonalities, if the truncating windows are periodic within the support. Motivated by this, we propose a DD Nyquist pulse sha** scheme considering signals with periodicity. Finally, our conclusions are verified by using various strictly or approximately periodic pulses.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), with sensing and communication sharing the same wireless resources and hardware, has the advantages of high spectrum efficiency and low hardware cost, which is regarded as one of the key technologies of the fifth generation advanced (5G-A) and sixth generation (6G) mobile communication systems. ISAC has the potential to be applied in the intelligent applications requiring both communication and high accurate sensing capabilities. The fundamental challenges of ISAC system are the ISAC signal design and ISAC signal processing. However, the existing ISAC signal has low anti-noise capability. And the existing ISAC signal processing algorithms have the disadvantages of quantization errors and high complexity, resulting in large energy consumption. In this paper, phase coding is applied in ISAC signal design to improve the anti-noise performance of ISAC signal. Then, the effect of phase coding method on improving the sensing accuracy is analyzed. In order to improve the sensing accuracy with low-complexity algorithm, the iterative ISAC signal processing methods are proposed. The proposed methods improve the sensing accuracy with low computational complexity, realizing energy efficient ISAC signal processing. Taking the scenarios of short distance and long distance sensing into account, the iterative two-dimensional (2D) fast Fourier transform (FFT) and iterative cyclic cross-correlation (CC) methods are proposed, respectively, realizing high sensing accuracy and low computational complexity. This paper proposes an integrated sensing, navigation, and communication (ISNC) framework for safeguarding unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled wireless networks against a mobile eavesdrop** UAV (E-UAV). To cope with the mobility of the E-UAV, the proposed framework advocates the dual use of artificial noise transmitted by the information UAV (I-UAV) for simultaneous jamming and sensing to facilitate navigation and secure communication. In particular, the I-UAV communicates with legitimate downlink ground users, while avoiding potential information leakage by emitting jamming signals, and estimates the state of the E-UAV with an extended Kalman filter based on the backscattered jamming signals. Exploiting the estimated state of the E-UAV in the previous time slot, the I-UAV determines its flight planning strategy, predicts the wiretap channel, and designs its communication resource allocation policy for the next time slot. To circumvent the severe coupling between these three tasks, a divide-and-conquer approach is adopted. The online navigation design has the objective to minimize the distance between the I-UAV and a pre-defined destination point considering kinematic and geometric constraints. Subsequently, given the predicted wiretap channel, the robust resource allocation design is formulated as an optimization problem to achieve the optimal trade-off between sensing and communication in the next time slot, while taking into account the wiretap channel prediction error and the quality-of-service (QoS) requirements of secure communication. Simulation results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed design compared with baseline schemes and validate the benefits of integrating sensing and navigation into secure UAV communication systems.
