This research introduces an innovative forest monitoring system designed to detect and mitigate the threats of forest fires. The proposed system leverages Arduino-based technology integrated with state-of-the-art sensors, including DHT11 for temperature and humidity detection and Flame sensor along with GSM module for gas and smoke detection. The integration of these sensors enables real-time data acquisition and analysis, providing a comprehensive and accurate assessment of environmental conditions within the forest ecosystem. The Arduino platform serves as the central processing unit, orchestrating the communication and synchronization of the sensor data. The DHT11 sensor monitors ambient temperature and humidity levels, crucial indicators for assessing fire risk and identifying potential deforestation activities. Simultaneously, the Flame sensor module detects the occurrence of fire flames nearby thus indicating it by a buzzer. The collected data is processed through an intelligent algorithm that employs machine learning techniques to discern patterns indicative of potential threats. The system is equipped with an adaptive threshold mechanism, allowing it to dynamically adjust to changing environmental conditions. In the event of abnormal readings or anomalies, the system triggers immediate alerts, notifying forest rangers and relevant authorities to facilitate timely response and intervention. The integration of low-cost, easily deployable Arduino-based devices makes this solution scalable and accessible for implementation across diverse forest environments. The proposed system represents a significant step towards leveraging technology to address environmental challenges and protect our forests.

We consider the escape interdiction problem in a transportation network. In the absence of traffic in the network, the criminal/attacker tries to escape from the city using any of the shortest paths from the crime scene to any randomly chosen exit point. In the presence of traffic, the attacker chooses the optimal path, which takes minimum time to reach his destination. On the contrary, police/defenders try to interdict the criminal on his escape route. This is a challenging task for police with limited resources. Again, a real city road network is also complex in nature. First, we develop a simulation-based model for the optimal allocation of resources using the SUMO simulator. Next, we focus on develo** a more advanced search strategy like routing with optimal resource allocation. We develop a novel meta-heuristic approach in a simulation environment to interdict the attacker in a dynamic crime scenario. Like the previous approach, the attacker follows the path with optimal time to escape from the city. In contrast, defenders try to catch the attacker regardless of the path which the attacker takes. The defenders aim is to maximize the interdiction probability. As time plays a vital role, we choose a meta-heuristic approach to provide quality solutions in a time-efficient manner. We test the developed meta-heuristic with a case study on the IIT Kharagpur map, India. We analyze the performance of the mentioned approaches using the SUMO simulator both in the presence of traffic and without traffic. We develop a linear regression model to generate optimal path in the presence of traffic. Here traffic is generated randomly in the whole network using the SUMO simulator.

In recent years, the dissipating energy flow (DEF) method has emerged as a promising tool for online localization of oscillation sources. In literature, the mathematical foundations of this method are well-studied for networks with synchronous generators. In this paper, we extend the analysis to flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS). To that end, we derive the DEF-expressions for a thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) and a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) operating with conventional control strategies. Analyzing their respective DEFs, we obtain the conditions for which these FACTS devices could behave as the sources of oscillation energy. Our findings are structured into propositions and are supported through numerical case studies on IEEE test systems.

Stability of power grids with synchronous generators (SGs) and renewable generation interfaced with grid-forming converters (GFCs) under dc-side current limitation is studied. To that end, we first consider a simple 2-bus test system and reduced-order models to highlight the fundamental difference between two classes of GFC controls -- (A) droop, dispatchable virtual oscillator control (dVOC) and virtual synchronous machine (VSM), and (B) matching control. Next, we study Lyapunov stability and input-output stability of the dc voltage dynamics of class-A GFCs for the simple system and extend it to a generic system. Next, we provide a sufficiency condition for input-to-state stability of the 2-bus system with a class-B GFC and extend it for a generic system. Finally, time-domain simulations from a reduced-order averaged model of the simple test system and a detailed switched model of the GFC validate the proposed conditions.
