Daily life of thousands of individuals around the globe suffers due to physical or mental disability related to limb movement. The quality of life for such individuals can be made better by use of assistive applications and systems. In such scenario, map** of physical actions from movement to a computer aided application can lead the way for solution. Surface Electromyography (sEMG) presents a non-invasive mechanism through which we can translate the physical movement to signals for classification and use in applications. In this paper, we propose a machine learning based framework for classification of 4 physical actions. The framework looks into the various features from different modalities which contribution from time domain, frequency domain, higher order statistics and inter channel statistics. Next, we conducted a comparative analysis of k-NN, SVM and ELM classifier using the feature set. Effect of different combinations of feature set has also been recorded. Finally, the classifier accuracy with SVM and 1-NN based classifier for a subset of features gives an accuracy of 95.21 and 95.83 respectively. Additionally, we have also proposed that dimensionality reduction by use of PCA leads to only a minor drop of less than 5.55% in accuracy while using only 9.22% of the original feature set. These finding are useful for algorithm designer to choose the best approach kee** in mind the resources available for execution of algorithm.

COVID-19 (also known as 2019 Novel Coronavirus) first emerged in Wuhan, China and spread across the globe with unprecedented effect and has now become the greatest crisis of the modern era. The COVID-19 has proved much more pervasive demands for diagnosis that has driven researchers to develop more intelligent, highly responsive and efficient detection methods. In this work, we focus on proposing AI tools that can be used by radiologists or healthcare professionals to diagnose COVID-19 cases in a quick and accurate manner. However, the lack of a publicly available dataset of X-ray and CT images makes the design of such AI tools a challenging task. To this end, this study aims to build a comprehensive dataset of X-rays and CT scan images from multiple sources as well as provides a simple but an effective COVID-19 detection technique using deep learning and transfer learning algorithms. In this vein, a simple convolution neural network (CNN) and modified pre-trained AlexNet model are applied on the prepared X-rays and CT scan images dataset. The result of the experiments shows that the utilized models can provide accuracy up to 98 % via pre-trained network and 94.1 % accuracy by using the modified CNN.

Channel estimation is an essential part of modern communication systems as it enhances the overall performance of the system. In recent past a variety of adaptive learning methods have been designed to enhance the robustness and convergence speed of the learning process. However, the need for an optimal technique is still there. Herein, for non-Gaussian noisy environment we propose a new class of stochastic gradient algorithm for channel identification. The proposed $q$-least mean fourth ($q$-LMF) is an extension of least mean fourth (LMF) algorithm and it is based on the $q$-calculus which is also known as Jackson derivative. The proposed algorithm utilizes a novel concept of error-correlation energy and normalization of signal to ensure high convergence rate, better stability and low steady-state error. Contrary to the conventional LMF, the proposed method has more freedom for large step-sizes. Extensive experiments show significant gain in the performance of the proposed $q$-LMF algorithm in comparison to the contemporary techniques.

The purpose of this paper is to indicate that the recently proposed Momentum fractional least mean squares (mFLMS) algorithm has some serious flaws in its design and analysis. Our apprehensions are based on the evidence we found in the derivation and analysis in the paper titled: \textquotedblleft \textit{Momentum fractional LMS for power signal parameter estimation}\textquotedblright. In addition to the theoretical bases our claims are also verified through extensive simulation results. The experiments clearly show that the new method does not have any advantage over the classical least mean square (LMS) method.

In this work, a new class of stochastic gradient algorithm is developed based on $q$-calculus. Unlike the existing $q$-LMS algorithm, the proposed approach fully utilizes the concept of $q$-calculus by incorporating time-varying $q$ parameter. The proposed enhanced $q$-LMS ($Eq$-LMS) algorithm utilizes a novel, parameterless concept of error-correlation energy and normalization of signal to ensure high convergence, stability and low steady-state error. The proposed algorithm automatically adapts the learning rate with respect to the error. For the evaluation purpose the system identification problem is considered. Extensive experiments show better performance of the proposed $Eq$-LMS algorithm compared to the standard $q$-LMS approach.
