Sleep detection and annotation are crucial for researchers to understand sleep patterns, especially in children. Sleep detection and annotation are crucial for researchers to understand sleep patterns, especially in children. With modern wrist-worn watches comprising built-in accelerometers, sleep logs can be collected. However, the annotation of these logs into distinct sleep events: onset and wakeup, proves to be challenging. These annotations must be automated, precise, and scalable. We propose to model the accelerometer data using different machine learning (ML) techniques such as support vectors, boosting, ensemble methods, and more complex approaches involving LSTMs and Region-based CNNs. Later, we aim to evaluate these approaches using the Event Detection Average Precision (EDAP) score (similar to the IOU metric) to eventually compare the predictive power and model performance.

Semi-Global Exponential Stability (SGES) is proved for the combined attitude and position rigid body motion tracking problem, which was previously only known to be asymptotically stable. Dual quaternions are used to jointly represent the rotational and translation tracking error dynamics of the rigid body. A novel nonlinear feedback tracking controller is proposed and a Lyapunov based analysis is provided to prove the semi-global exponential stability of the closed-loop dynamics. Our analysis does not place any restrictions on the reference trajectory or the feedback gains. This stronger SGES result aids in further analyzing the robustness of the rigid body system by establishing Input-to-State Stability (ISS) in the presence of time-varying additive and bounded external disturbances. Motivated by the fact that in many aerospace applications, stringent adherence to safety constraints such as approach path and input constraints is critical for overall mission success, we present a framework for safe control of spacecraft that combines the proposed feedback controller with Control Barrier Functions. Numerical simulations are provided to verify the SGES and ISS results and also showcase the efficacy of the proposed nonlinear feedback controller in several non-trivial scenarios including the Mars Cube One (MarCO) mission, Apollo transposition and docking problem, Starship flip maneuver, collision avoidance of spherical robots, and the rendezvous of SpaceX Dragon 2 with the International Space Station.

Existing literature uses a persistence filter based approach that typically leads to large control gains and torque inputs during specific time intervals corresponding to the 'on' phase of the external actuation. The attitude stabilization of a micro-satellite employing a variable-amplitude cold gas thruster which reflects as a time varying gain on the control input is considered. Existing literature uses a persistence filter based approach that typically leads to large control gains and torque inputs during specific time intervals corresponding to the 'on' phase of the external actuation. This work aims at reducing the transient spikes placed upon the torque commands by the judicious introduction of an additional time varying scaling signal as part of the control law. The time update mechanism for the new scaling factor and overall closed-loop stability are established through a Lyapunov-like analysis. Numerical simulations highlight the various features of this new control algorithm for spacecraft attitude stabilization subject to torque intermittence.

This paper experiments with the number of fully-connected layers in a deep convolutional neural network as applied to the classification of fundus retinal images. The images analysed corresponded to the ODIR 2019 (Peking University International Competition on Ocular Disease Intelligent Recognition) [9], which included images of various eye diseases (cataract, glaucoma, myopia, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), hypertension) as well as normal cases. This work focused on the classification of Normal, Cataract, AMD and Myopia. The feature extraction (convolutional) part of the neural network is kept the same while the feature map** (linear) part of the network is changed. Different data sets are also explored on these neural nets. Each data set differs from another by the number of classes it has. This paper hence aims to find the relationship between number of classes and number of fully-connected layers. It was found out that the effect of increasing the number of fully-connected layers of a neural networks depends on the type of data set being used. For simple, linearly separable data sets, addition of fully-connected layer is something that should be explored and that could result in better training accuracy, but a direct correlation was not found. However as complexity of the data set goes up(more overlap** classes), increasing the number of fully-connected layers causes the neural network to stop learning. This phenomenon happens quicker the more complex the data set is.
