Meta-Model Structure Selection: Building Polynomial NARX Model for Regression and Classification
Abstract: This work presents a new meta-heuristic approach to select the structure of polynomial NARX models for regression and classification problems. The method takes into account the complexity of the model and the contribution of each term to build parsimonious models by proposing a new cost function formulation. The robustness of the new algorithm is tested on several simulated and experimental system… ▽ More

Modelagem de Sistemas Audiométricos Usando Técnicas de Computação Flexível
Abstract: In systems identification, the studied phenomena are accompanied by uncertainties, whether arising from measurement data or computational calculations. Interval data provides a valuable way to represent available information on complex problems where uncertainty, inaccuracy, or variability must be taken into account. The present work aims to determine interval parameters for a model considering da… ▽ More

Identificação de Sistemas Não Lineares Utilizando o Algoritmo Híbrido e Binário de Otimização por Enxame de Partículas e Busca Gravitacional
Abstract: This work presents a new meta-heuristic approach to model structure selection of polynomial NARX models. In this respect, the technique penalizes the models based on the individual contribution of each regressor in representing the system. The new algorithm is tested on two experimental case studies: the identification of an electromechanical system and a eletric heater. The results are compared w… ▽ More

Detection of Muscle Fatigue Using Variable Bit Flow Modulation and Cross Correlation of Electromyographic Signals
Abstract: The surface electromyography (sEMG) analysis can provide information on muscle fatigue status by estimation of muscle fibre conduction velocity (MFCV), a measure of the travelling speed of motor unit action potentials in muscle tissue. This paper proposes a technique for MFCV estimation using cross-correlation methods and variable bitstream modulation. The technique displays an estimate based on a… ▽ More

Simplification of the digital representation of the tent map through biased fixed point
Abstract: Chaotic systems have been investigated in several areas of engineering. In control theory, such systems have instigated the emergence of new techniques as well, have been used as a source of noise generation. The application of chaotic systems as pseudo-random numbers has also been widely employed in cryptography. One of the central aspects of these applications in high performance situations, suc… ▽ More

Some remarks on the performance of Matlab, Python and Octave in simulating dynamical systems
Abstract: Matlab has been considered as a leader computational platform for many engineering fields. Well documented and reliable, Matlab presents as a great advantage its ability to increase the user productivity. However, Python and Octave are among some of the languages that have challenged Matlab. Octave and Python are well known examples of high-level scripting languages, with a great advantage of bein… ▽ More

Computation of the largest Lyapunov exponent using recursive estimation with variable factor
Abstract: Chaotic systems have been investigated in the most diverse areas. One of the first steps in chaotic system research is the detection of chaos. The largest Lyapunov exponent (LLE) is one of the most widely used techniques for this purpose. Recently, techniques for calculating LLE have been developed taking into account the error due to the finite precision of computers. Recursive methods were emplo… ▽ More

Decimation analysis in the signal processing of current to detect broken bars in induction machine
Abstract: This paper presents a study on the reduction of the sampling frequency of the current signals of an induction motor, the reductions are performed by means time-decimation technique for digital signal processing. We have used the Fast Fourier Transform to obtain the fault signal spectrum of broken bars. The results have shown how the decimation technique significantly reduces the number of operatio… ▽ More

Interval Simulation of Narmax Models Based on Computer Arithmetic
Abstract: System identification is an important area of science, which aims to describe the characteristics of the system, representing them by mathematical models. Since many of these models can be seen as recursive functions, it is extremely important to control the errors in these functions, because small errors introduced in each computational step can grow exponentially due to the sensitivity to initia… ▽ More

Synchronization on the accuracy of chaotic oscillators simulations
Abstract: Numerical problems are considered on general synchronization of chaotic oscillators, through the evaluation of the Lower Bound Error index on two case studies: a Lorenz system unidirectionally coupled to a Duffing system and a Duffing system unidirectionally coupled to a Rossler system. It was possible to observe, in each case, that the behavior of the slave's LBE curve tends to follow the behavio… ▽ More

A rigorous evaluation of the intermittence in the logistic map using lower bound error
Abstract: This article investigates the maximum time of simulation in which the phenomenon of the intermittence can be observed with numerical confidence in discrete maps. Interval analysis and the lower error limit were used. As a result, it was observed that the reliability of the intermittency is dependent on the initial condition. Four numerical examples show the efficiency of the proposal.

Note on improvement precision of recursive function simulation in floating point standard
Abstract: An improvement on precision of recursive function simulation in IEEE floating point standard is presented. It is shown that the average of rounding towards negative infinite and rounding towards positive infinite yields a better result than the usual standard rounding to the nearest in the simulation of recursive functions. In general, the method improves one digit of precision and it has also bee… ▽ More

Abstract: This paper presents an analysis on the effects of floating-point arithmetic on the constructing bifurcation diagram of the quadratic map. More precisely, we are interested in showing the dependence of initial conditions to obtain some specific features of the diagram. With this study, it was possible to observe that when there is a restriction regarding the initial condition, the results present a… ▽ More

Chaos suppression of Lorenz Systems by means on the average of rounding modes
Abstract: This work deals with chaos suppression based on average of the rounded modes to negative and positive infinite. The present procedure acts to reduce the rounding errors. It was observed that when the method proposed in this paper is applied to the chaotic Lorenz's system, it exhibits a periodic behaviour, characterized by a limit cycle and negative largest Lyapunov exponent. We tested our approach… ▽ More

The Lower Bound Error for polynomial NARMAX using an Arbitrary Number of Natural Interval Extensions
Abstract: The polynomial NARMAX (Nonlinear AutoRegressive Moving Average model with eXogenous input) is a model that represents the dynamics of physical systems. This polynomial contains information from the past of the inputs and outputs of the process, that is, it is a recursive model. In digital computers this generates the propagation of the rounding error. Our procedure is based on the estimation of th… ▽ More
