Underwater image processing and analysis have been a hotspot of study in recent years, as more emphasis has been focused to underwater monitoring and usage of marine resources. Compared with the open environment, underwater image encountered with more complicated conditions such as light abortion, scattering, turbulence, nonuniform illumination and color diffusion. Although considerable advances and enhancement techniques achieved in resolving these issues, they treat low-frequency information equally across the entire channel, which results in limiting the network's representativeness. We propose a deep learning and feature-attention-based end-to-end network (FA-Net) to solve this problem. In particular, we propose a Residual Feature Attention Block (RFAB), containing the channel attention, pixel attention, and residual learning mechanism with long and short skip connections. RFAB allows the network to focus on learning high-frequency information while skip** low-frequency information on multi-hop connections. The channel and pixel attention mechanism considers each channel's different features and the uneven distribution of haze over different pixels in the image. The experimental results shows that the FA-Net propose by us provides higher accuracy, quantitatively and qualitatively and superiority to previous state-of-the-art methods.

Robot manipulators are extensively used in industrial applications because of their immense importance such as in constructions automation. Therefore, designing controllers to suit the intensive purpose of the application is one of the major challenges for control researchers. This paper presents comparative analysis of three controllers on a 3-DOF robot manipulator. The proportional integral derivative (PID), proportional derivative (PD) and fuzzy logic (FL) controllers were designed and applied to each of the link of the robot by simulation. The performance of each control method was assessed using the transient and steady state response characteristics. Comparisons of the results obtained, PID and PD performed better in terms of Rise Time and Settling Time while the FLC exhibited reduced overshoot

Chattering phenomena is the major problem affecting sliding mode control (SMC). Also, finding a suitable structure and appropriate parameters values of fuzzy logic system (FLS) is a complex and difficult task. In addition, the stability of a general FLS is difficult to guarantee. Many types of combinations between FLS and SMC have been used to form an intelligent and robust controller that deviates from the limitations of each constituent and benefit from the advantages of each constituent. In this study, a survey of recent developments on the Hybridization of FLS (type-1) and SMC is presented. In addition, the differences between using the SMC in FLC or using FLC in SMC as well as their limitation and advantages are highlighted. It is found that the majority of the combinations made are intended to approximate the nonlinear sliding surface within the boundary layer. Limitations of the previous approaches and future research directions are pointed out. For novice researchers, this survey can serve as a foundation for their work while for expert researchers this review can serve as a benchmark for further advancement and exploration of other hybridization methods.

Complexity and nonlinear behaviours of inverted pendulum system make its control design a very challenging task. In this paper, a hybrid fuzzy adaptive control system using model reference approach is designed for inverted-pendulum system control. The proposed method is developed to achieve position control and later simultaneous control of position and pendulum angle in the same control loop. Also, the control algorithm is applied to achieve control objective of reference tracking, disturbance rejection and robustness to parameter variation. The performance of the proposed control scheme was compared with conventional PID and LQR controllers. The simulation results showed that the proposed control scheme provides high-performance dynamic characteristics and is robust with regard to parametric variations, disturbance and reference tracking compared to the comparatives
