An ultra-compact wearable antenna, for electronic travel aid (ETA) applications, is presented. An AMC-backed twin arrow antenna, operative in the 24.05-24.25 GHz frequency band, has been designed for imaging systems supporting ETA. Artificial Magnetic Conductor (AMC) is combined with the antenna with the aim of reducing the backward radiation to the wearing person while improving its radiation properties and bandwidth, all this without increasing the initial area of the antenna. Prototypes of the AMC-antenna have been fabricated and measured. In order to test its performance for the application, imaging have been conducted by means of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) techniques by placing the antenna in the arm of a user to take advantage of natural body movement. Electromagnetic images have been obtained and the target has been identified, demonstrating the suitability of the AMC-antenna for the ETA system.

Understanding the irregular electrical activity of atrial fibrillation (AFib) has been a key challenge in electrocardiography. For serious cases of AFib, catheter ablations are performed to collect intracardiac electrograms (EGMs). EGMs offer intricately detailed and localized electrical activity of the heart and are an ideal modality for interpretable cardiac studies. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) has allowed some works to utilize deep learning frameworks to interpret EGMs during AFib. Additionally, language models (LMs) have shown exceptional performance in being able to generalize to unseen domains, especially in healthcare. In this study, we are the first to leverage pretrained LMs for finetuning of EGM interpolation and AFib classification via masked language modeling. We formulate the EGM as a textual sequence and present competitive performances on AFib classification compared against other representations. Lastly, we provide a comprehensive interpretability study to provide a multi-perspective intuition of the model's behavior, which could greatly benefit the clinical use.

The advancements in connected and autonomous vehicles in these times demand the availability of tools providing the agents with the capability to be aware and predict their own states and context dynamics. This article presents a novel approach to develop an initial level of collective awareness in a network of intelligent agents. A specific collective self awareness functionality is considered, namely, agent centered detection of abnormal situations present in the environment around any agent in the network. Moreover, the agent should be capable of analyzing how such abnormalities can influence the future actions of each agent. Data driven dynamic Bayesian network (DBN) models learned from time series of sensory data recorded during the realization of tasks (agent network experiences) are here used for abnormality detection and prediction. A set of DBNs, each related to an agent, is used to allow the agents in the network to each synchronously aware possible abnormalities occurring when available models are used on a new instance of the task for which DBNs have been learned. A growing neural gas (GNG) algorithm is used to learn the node variables and conditional probabilities linking nodes in the DBN models; a Markov jump particle filter (MJPF) is employed for state estimation and abnormality detection in each agent using learned DBNs as filter parameters. Performance metrics are discussed to asses the algorithms reliability and accuracy. The impact is also evaluated by the communication channel used by the network to share the data sensed in a distributed way by each agent of the network. The IEEE 802.11p protocol standard has been considered for communication among agents. Real data sets are also used acquired by autonomous vehicles performing different tasks in a controlled environment.

In this paper, we present a novel robotic system for skin photo-rejuvenation procedures, which can uniformly deliver the laser's energy over the skin of the face. The robotised procedure is performed by a manipulator whose end-effector is instrumented with a depth sensor, a thermal camera, and a cosmetic laser generator. To plan the heat stimulating trajectories for the laser, the system computes the surface model of the face and segments it into seven regions that are automatically filled with laser shots. We report experimental results with human subjects to validate the performance of the system. To the best of the author's knowledge, this is the first time that facial skin rejuvenation has been automated by robot manipulators.
