In the realm of smart sensing with the Internet of Things, earable devices are empowered with the capability of multi-modality sensing and intelligence of context-aware computing, leading to its wide usage in Human Activity Recognition (HAR). Nonetheless, unlike the movements captured by Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensors placed on the upper or lower body, those motion signals obtained from earable devices show significant changes in amplitudes and patterns, especially in the presence of dynamic and unpredictable head movements, posing a significant challenge for activity classification. In this work, we present EarDA, an adversarial-based domain adaptation system to extract the domain-independent features across different sensor locations. Moreover, while most deep learning methods commonly rely on training with substantial amounts of labeled data to offer good accuracy, the proposed scheme can release the potential usage of publicly available smartphone-based IMU datasets. Furthermore, we explore the feasibility of applying a filter-based data processing method to mitigate the impact of head movement. EarDA, the proposed system, enables more data-efficient and accurate activity sensing. It achieves an accuracy of 88.8% under HAR task, demonstrating a significant 43% improvement over methods without domain adaptation. This clearly showcases its effectiveness in mitigating domain gaps.

Magnetically controlled capsule endoscope (MCCE) is an emerging tool for the diagnosis of gastric diseases with the advantages of comfort, safety, and no anesthesia. In this paper, we develop algorithms to detect and measure human gastric peristalsis (contraction wave) using video sequences acquired by MCCE. We develop a spatial-temporal deep learning algorithm to detect gastric contraction waves and measure human gastric peristalsis periods. The quality of MCCE video sequences is prone to camera motion. We design a camera motion detector (CMD) to process the MCCE video sequences, mitigating the camera movement during MCCE examination. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to propose computer vision-based solutions to detect and measure human gastric peristalsis. Our methods have great potential in assisting the diagnosis of gastric diseases by evaluating gastric motility.

With the increasing impact of low inertia due to the high penetration of distributed generation, virtual synchronous generator (VSG) technology has been proposed to improve the stability of the inverter-interfaced distributed generator by providing "virtual inertia". This paper presents a recent review of virtual inertia control covering significance, features, design principles, and state-of-art inertia strategies from both physical and mathematical perspectives to facilitate the wide application of the VSG. The definition and source of virtual inertia are given to help researchers to establish the concept of "virtual inertia". Then, this paper covers influencing mechanism studies of virtual inertia to reveal its functions. Also, a design framework of the virtual inertia is established by considering both the characteristics of the control system and the limitation of energy storage systems and renewable energy resources. Finally, several novel adaptive inertia control strategies are reviewed, and some aspects of potential future research are recommended.

Atmospheric turbulence is a serious problem for traditional optical imaging, especially for satellite and aircraft-to-ground imaging. Here, we report a novel and practical phenomenon in which turbulence-free images can be reconstructed on a conventional optical camera based on the accumulation of sunlight intensity and photon number fluctuation autocorrelation. Different from conventional ghost imaging, this method can obtain turbulence-free images, and its imaging speed is comparable to that of traditional optical imaging. Moreover, by adding photon number fluctuation autocorrelation algorithm software, almost all optical cameras, including mobile phone cameras, can realize this function without changing the structure of the original camera.

The complex representation of real-valued instantaneous power may be written as the sum of two complex powers, one Hermitian and the other non-Hermitian, or complementary. A virtue of this representation is that it consists of a power triangle rotating around a fixed phasor, thus clarifying what should be meant by the power triangle. The in-phase and quadrature components of complementary power encode for active and non-active power. When instantaneous power is defined for a Thevenin equivalent circuit, these are time-varying real and reactive power components. These claims hold for sinusoidal voltage and current, and for non-sinusoidal voltage and current. Spectral representations of Hermitian, complementary, and instantaneous power show that, frequency-by-frequency, these powers behave exactly as they behave in the single frequency sinusoidal case. Simple hardware diagrams show how instantaneous active and non-active power may be extracted from metered voltage and current, even in certain non-sinusoidal cases.

Here, the conventional CGI framework is not changed, but the conventional CGI coincidence measurement algorithm is optimized by an MsGAN. Thus, the satisfactory turbulence-free ghost image can be reconstructed by training the network, and the visual effect can be significantly improved.

Night vision imaging is a technology that converts non-visible object to human eyes into visible image in night and other low light environments. However, the conventional night vision imaging can only directly produce grayscale image. Here, we propose a novel night vision imaging method based on intensity correlation of light. The object's information detected by infrared non-visible light is expressed by visible light via the spatial intensity correlation of light. With simple data processing, a color night vision image can be directly produced by this approach without any pseudo-color image processing. Theoretical and experimental results show that a color night vision image comparable to classical visible light imaging quality can be obtained by this method. Surprisingly, the color colorfulness index of the reconstructed night vision image is significantly better than that of the conventional visible light image and pseudo-color night vision image. Although the reconstructed image can not completely restore the natural color of the object, the color image obtained by this method is more natural sense than that obtained by other pseudo-color image processing methods.

Night vision is the ability to see in low-light conditions. However, conventional night vision imaging technology is limited by the requisite high-performance infrared focal plane array. In this article, we propose a novel scheme of color night vision imaging without the use of an infrared focal plane array. In the experimental device, the two-wavelength infrared laser beam reflected by the target is modulated by a spatial light modulator, and the output light is detected by a photomultiplier tube. Two infrared night vision images are reconstructed by measuring the second-order intensity correlation function between two light fields. Thus, the processing mode of optical electric detection in conventional night vision imaging is transformed into the processing mode of light field control. Furthermore, two gray images with different spectra are processed to form a color night vision image. We show that a high-quality color night vision image can be obtained by this method.

Computational ghost imaging (CGI) has recently been intensively studied as an indirect imaging technique. However, the speed of CGI cannot meet the requirements of practical applications. Here, we propose a novel CGI scheme for high-speed imaging. In our scenario, the conventional CGI data processing algorithm is optimized to a new compressed sensing (CS) algorithm based on a convolutional neural network (CNN). CS is used to process the data collected by a conventional CGI device. Then, the processed data are trained by a CNN to reconstruct the image. The experimental results show that our scheme can produce high-quality images with much less sampling than conventional CGI. Moreover, detailed comparisons between the images reconstructed using our approach and with conventional CS and deep learning (DL) show that our scheme outperforms the conventional approach and achieves a faster imaging speed.
