This research introduces an innovative forest monitoring system designed to detect and mitigate the threats of forest fires. The proposed system leverages Arduino-based technology integrated with state-of-the-art sensors, including DHT11 for temperature and humidity detection and Flame sensor along with GSM module for gas and smoke detection. The integration of these sensors enables real-time data acquisition and analysis, providing a comprehensive and accurate assessment of environmental conditions within the forest ecosystem. The Arduino platform serves as the central processing unit, orchestrating the communication and synchronization of the sensor data. The DHT11 sensor monitors ambient temperature and humidity levels, crucial indicators for assessing fire risk and identifying potential deforestation activities. Simultaneously, the Flame sensor module detects the occurrence of fire flames nearby thus indicating it by a buzzer. The collected data is processed through an intelligent algorithm that employs machine learning techniques to discern patterns indicative of potential threats. The system is equipped with an adaptive threshold mechanism, allowing it to dynamically adjust to changing environmental conditions. In the event of abnormal readings or anomalies, the system triggers immediate alerts, notifying forest rangers and relevant authorities to facilitate timely response and intervention. The integration of low-cost, easily deployable Arduino-based devices makes this solution scalable and accessible for implementation across diverse forest environments. The proposed system represents a significant step towards leveraging technology to address environmental challenges and protect our forests.

Pneumonia is a respiratory infection caused by bacteria, fungi, or viruses. It affects many people, particularly those in develo** or underdeveloped nations with high pollution levels, unhygienic living conditions, overcrowding, and insufficient medical infrastructure. Pneumonia can cause pleural effusion, where fluids fill the lungs, leading to respiratory difficulty. Early diagnosis is crucial to ensure effective treatment and increase survival rates. Chest X-ray imaging is the most commonly used method for diagnosing pneumonia. However, visual examination of chest X-rays can be difficult and subjective. In this study, we have developed a computer-aided diagnosis system for automatic pneumonia detection using chest X-ray images. We have used DenseNet-121 and ResNet50 as the backbone for the binary class (pneumonia and normal) and multi-class (bacterial pneumonia, viral pneumonia, and normal) classification tasks, respectively. We have also implemented a channel-specific spatial attention mechanism, called Fuzzy Channel Selective Spatial Attention Module (FCSSAM), to highlight the specific spatial regions of relevant channels while removing the irrelevant channels of the extracted features by the backbone. We evaluated the proposed approach on a publicly available chest X-ray dataset, using binary and multi-class classification setups. Our proposed method achieves accuracy rates of 97.15\% and 79.79\% for the binary and multi-class classification setups, respectively. The results of our proposed method are superior to state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods. The code of the proposed model will be available at: https://github.com/AyushRoy2001/FA-Net.

This work presents a novel Shape Memory Alloy spring actuated continuum robotic neck that derives inspiration from pennate muscle architecture. The proposed design has 2DOF, and experimental studies reveal that the designed joint can replicate the human head's anthropomorphic range of motion. We enumerate the analytical modelling for SMA actuators and the kinematic model of the proposed design configuration. A series of experiments were conducted to assess the performance of the anthropomorphic neck by measuring the range of motion with varying input currents. Furthermore, the experiments were conducted to validate the analytical model of the SMA Multiphysics and the continuum backbone. The existing humanoid necks have been powered by conventional actuators that have relatively low energy efficiency and are prone to wear. The current research envisages application of nonconventional actuator such as SMA springs with specific geometric configuration yielding high power to weight ratio that delivers smooth motion for continuum robots as demonstrated in this present work.

A fully convolutional neural network was used to measure the evolution of the volume fraction of two different Kirkendall pores during the homogenization of Ti coated Ni wires. Traditional methods like Otsus thresholding and the largest connected component analysis were used to obtain the masks for training the segmentation model. Once trained, the model was used to semantically segment the two types of pores at different stages in their evolution. Masks of the pores predicted by the network were then used to measure the volume fraction of porosity at 0 mins, 240 mins, and 480 mins of homogenization. The model predicted an increase in porosity for one type of pore and a decrease in porosity for another type of pore due to pore sintering, and it achieved an F1 Score of 0.95.

An increased energy demand, and environmental pressure to accommodate higher levels of renewable energy and flexible loads like electric vehicles have led to numerous smart transformations in the modern power systems. These transformations make the cyber-physical power system highly susceptible to cyber-adversaries targeting its numerous operations. In this work, a novel black box adversarial attack strategy is proposed targeting the AC state estimation operation of an unknown power system using historical data. Specifically, false data is injected into the measurements obtained from a small subset of the power system components which leads to significant deviations in the state estimates. Experiments carried out on the IEEE 39 bus and 118 bus test systems make it evident that the proposed strategy, called DeeBBAA, can evade numerous conventional and state-of-the-art attack detection mechanisms with very high probability.

The challenges in applications of solar energy lies in its intermittency and dependency on meteorological parameters such as; solar radiation, ambient temperature, rainfall, wind-speed etc., and many other physical parameters like dust accumulation etc. Hence, it is important to estimate the amount of solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation for a specific geographical location. Machine learning (ML) models have gained importance and are widely used for prediction of solar power plant performance. In this paper, the impact of weather parameters on solar PV power generation is estimated by several Ensemble ML (EML) models like Bagging, Boosting, Stacking, and Voting for the first time. The performance of chosen ML algorithms is validated by field dataset of a 10kWp solar PV power plant in Eastern India region. Furthermore, a complete test-bed framework has been designed for data mining as well as to select appropriate learning models. It also supports feature selection and reduction for dataset to reduce space and time complexity of the learning models. The results demonstrate greater prediction accuracy of around 96% for Stacking and Voting EML models. The proposed work is a generalized one and can be very useful for predicting the performance of large-scale solar PV power plants also.

In this paper we propose a one-dimensional convolutional neural network (CNN)-based state of charge estimation algorithm for electric vehicles. The CNN is trained using two publicly available battery datasets. The influence of different types of noises on the estimation capabilities of the CNN model has been studied. Moreover, a transfer learning mechanism is proposed in order to make the developed algorithm generalize better and estimate with an acceptable accuracy when a battery with different chemical characteristics than the one used for training the model, is used. It has been observed that using transfer learning, the model can learn sufficiently well with significantly less amount of battery data. The proposed method fares well in terms of estimation accuracy, learning speed and generalization capability.
