Indicator functions, v-numbers and Gorenstein rings in the theory of projective Reed-Muller-type codes
Abstract: For projective Reed--Muller-type codes we give a global duality criterion in terms of the v-number and the Hilbert function of a vanishing ideal. As an application, we provide a global duality theorem for projective Reed--Muller-type codes over Gorenstein vanishing ideals, generalizing the known case where the vanishing ideal is a complete intersection. We classify self dual Reed-Muller-type codes… ▽ More

Design of experiments for the calibration of history-dependent models via deep reinforcement learning and an enhanced Kalman filter
Abstract: Experimental data is costly to obtain, which makes it difficult to calibrate complex models. For many models an experimental design that produces the best calibration given a limited experimental budget is not obvious. This paper introduces a deep reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm for design of experiments that maximizes the information gain measured by Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence obtaine… ▽ More

The dual of an evaluation code
Abstract: The aim of this work is to study the dual and the algebraic dual of an evaluation code using standard monomials and indicator functions. We show that the dual of an evaluation code is the evaluation code of the algebraic dual. We develop an algorithm for computing a basis for the algebraic dual. Let $C_1$ and $C_2$ be linear codes spanned by standard monomials. We give a combinatorial condition fo… ▽ More

Evaluation codes and their basic parameters
Abstract: The aim of this work is to give degree formulas for the generalized Hamming weights of evaluation codes and to show lower bounds for these weights. In particular, we give degree formulas for the generalized Hamming weights of Reed--Muller-type codes, and we determine the minimum distance of toric codes over hypersimplices, and the 1st and 2nd generalized Hamming weights of squarefree evaluation co… ▽ More

On the generalized Hamming weights of certain Reed-Muller-type codes
Abstract: There is a nice combinatorial formula of P. Beelen and M. Datta for the $r$-th generalized Hamming weight of an affine cartesian code. Using this combinatorial formula we give an easy to evaluate formula to compute the $r$-th generalized Hamming weight for a family of affine cartesian codes. Abstract: We give formulas, in terms of graph theoretical invariants, for the minimum distance and the generalized Hamming weights of the linear code generated by the rows of the incidence matrix of a signed graph over a finite field, and for those of its dual code. Then we determine the regularity of the ideals of circuits and cocircuits of a signed graph, and prove an algebraic formula in terms of the mul… ▽ More

Generalized minimum distance functions and algebraic invariants of Geramita ideals
Abstract: Motivated by notions from coding theory, we study the generalized minimum distance (GMD) function $δ_I(d,r)$ of a graded ideal $I$ in a polynomial ring over an arbitrary field using commutative algebraic methods. It is shown that $δ_I$ is non-decreasing as a function of $r$ and non-increasing as a function of $d$. For vanishing ideals over finite fields, we show that $δ_I$ is strictly decreasing a… ▽ More

We determine the generalized Hamming weights of the Reed--Muller-type code over the set $\mathbb{X}$ in terms of graph theoretic invariants. Footprint and minimum distance functions
Abstract: Let $S$ be a polynomial ring over a field $K$, with a monomial order $\prec$, and let $I$ be an unmixed graded ideal of $S$. In this paper we study two functions associated to $I$: the minimum distance function $δ_I$ and the footprint function ${\rm fp}_I$. It is shown that $δ_I$ is positive and that ${\rm fp}_I$ is positive if the initial ideal of $I$ is unmixed. Then we show that if $I$ is radic… ▽ More
