This paper will examine the cognitive processes involved in palpation in order to develop an appropriate remote palpation system. In a conventional remote palpation system, the tactile condition of the patient is conveyed to the doctors using a force feedback system. A clarification of the cognitive process during palpation suggests that the purpose of palpation is to formulate a clear idea about the patient's medical problems using the tactile sensation as a trigger to combine the results of other assessments, past experience and memory, and patient reactions to the doctor's touch. This is in contrast to the objective of acquiring the detailed tactile condition of the affected body part. In order to demonstrate this purpose, we will describe the two significant signal pathways for the perception of tactile sensation, both in doctors and patients. The perception of doctors progresses as the result of active touch to the affected part, thereby implying that the simultaneous stimulation of kinaesthetic and tactile sensation is necessary. Conversely, the tactile sensation experienced by patients is the result of passive touch, which evokes a more subjective and emotional response. Patients both explicitly and implicitly perceive the stimulation, and doctors use these perceptions as reactions of the pain to the doctors' touch. This paper proposes the fundamental concept of a remote palpation system, ``Palpation Reality beyond Real'', to achieve the purpose of palpation. Palpation reality implies a system in which the whole cognitive process progresses at the same level or better than palpation in the standard examination, rather than presenting the real tactile sensation.

Accurately assessing tomato plant nutrient status is crucial for maintaining high yields. Consequently, accurately identifying fertilizer-induced stress through the morphological traits of tomato plants has become a critical agricultural challenge. Research and development efforts have focused on develo** noninvasive diagnostic tools for nutrition that leverage a combination of morphological traits and advanced sensor technologies. Given these advancements, detecting fertilizer stress by observing morphological traits near the growth points of tomatoes is still a significant challenge. To address this challenge, we developed a simple and cost-effective smartphone-based method for measuring trichome density. This method involves transferring trichomes from the surface of a leaf onto cellophane tape and capturing images using a smartphone. The images are processed using computer vision techniques to calculate the trichome density. To assess the efficacy of this method, we performed experiments on hydroponically grown tomato plants subjected to varying fertilizer concentrations. Our results indicate that our novel method for measuring trichome density accurately reflects fertilizer stress in tomato plants. The predictive performance of our model, as evaluated by the mean area under the precision recall curve, was 0.824, despite variations in the measurement data caused by differences in optical conditions. This study introduces an innovative approach for designing diagnostic devices for detecting fertilizer stress in plants by considering the surface structures of plants. Our proposed method represents a straightforward, efficient, and economical approach for evaluating the nutrient status of tomato plants and has the potential to overcome the limitations of conventional noncontact optical methods.

We introduce a computational method of dating for an archive in ancient Mesopotamia. We use the name index Nuzi Personal Names (NPN) published in 1943. We made an electronic version of NPN and added the kinships of the two powerful families to NPN to reflect the Nuzi studies after 1943. Nuzi is a town from the 15th - 14th century B.C.E.for a period of some five generations in Arrapha. The cuneiform tablets listed in NPN are for contracts on land transactions, marriage, loans, slavery, etc. In NPN, the kinships and cuneiform tablets (contracts, documents, texts) involved are listed for each person. We reconstruct family trees from the added NPN to formulate the least squares problem with the constraints: a person's father is at least 22.5 years older than the person, contractors were living at the time of the contract, etc. Our results agree with the Assyriological results of M. P. Maidman on the seniority among siblings of a powerful family. Our method could be applied to the other clay tablet archives once we have the name index in the format of NPN.

A dominating set $S$ of graph $G$ is called an $r$-grouped dominating set if $S$ can be partitioned into $S_1,S_2,\ldots,S_k$ such that the size of each unit $S_i$ is $r$ and the subgraph of $G$ induced by $S_i$ is connected. The concept of $r$-grouped dominating sets generalizes several well-studied variants of dominating sets with requirements for connected component sizes, such as the ordinary dominating sets ($r=1$), paired dominating sets ($r=2$), and connected dominating sets ($r$ is arbitrary and $k=1$). In this paper, we investigate the computational complexity of $r$-Grouped Dominating Set, which is the problem of deciding whether a given graph has an $r$-grouped dominating set with at most $k$ units. For general $r$, the problem is hard to solve in various senses because the hardness of the connected dominating set is inherited. We thus focus on the case in which $r$ is a constant or a parameter, but we see that the problem for every fixed $r>0$ is still hard to solve. From the hardness, we consider the parameterized complexity concerning well-studied graph structural parameters. We first see that it is fixed-parameter tractable for $r$ and treewidth, because the condition of $r$-grouped domination for a constant $r$ can be represented as monadic second-order logic (mso2). This is good news, but the running time is not practical. We then design an $O^*(\min\{(2τ(r+1))^τ,(2τ)^{2τ}\})$-time algorithm for general $r\ge 2$, where $τ$ is the twin cover number, which is a parameter between vertex cover number and clique-width. For paired dominating set and trio dominating set, i.e., $r \in \{2,3\}$, we can speed up the algorithm, whose running time becomes $O^*((r+1)^τ)$. We further argue the relationship between FPT results and graph parameters, which draws the parameterized complexity landscape of $r$-Grouped Dominating Set.

An approach by which to analyze the performance of the code division multiple access (CDMA) scheme, which is a core technology used in modern wireless communication systems, is provided. The approach characterizes the objective system by the eigenvalue spectrum of a cross-correlation matrix composed of signature sequences used in CDMA communication, which enables us to handle a wider class of CDMA systems beyond the basic model reported by Tanaka. The utility of the novel scheme is shown by analyzing a system in which the generation of signature sequences is designed for enhancing the orthogonality.
