Purpose: To develop and evaluate a transformer-based deep learning model for the synthesis of nephrographic phase images in CT urography (CTU) examinations from the unenhanced and urographic phases.
Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was approved by the local Institutional Review Board. A dataset of 119 patients (mean $\pm$ SD age, 65 $\pm$ 12 years; 75/44 males/females) with three-phase CT urography studies was curated for deep learning model development. The three phases for each patient were aligned with an affine registration algorithm. A custom model, coined Residual transformer model for Nephrographic phase CT image synthesis (ResNCT), was developed and implemented with paired inputs of non-contrast and urographic sets of images trained to produce the nephrographic phase images, that were compared with the corresponding ground truth nephrographic phase images. The synthesized images were evaluated with multiple performance metrics, including peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), structural similarity index (SSIM), normalized cross correlation coefficient (NCC), mean absolute error (MAE), and root mean squared error (RMSE).
Results: The ResNCT model successfully generated synthetic nephrographic images from non-contrast and urographic image inputs. With respect to ground truth nephrographic phase images, the images synthesized by the model achieved high PSNR (27.8 $\pm$ 2.7 dB), SSIM (0.88 $\pm$ 0.05), and NCC (0.98 $\pm$ 0.02), and low MAE (0.02 $\pm$ 0.005) and RMSE (0.042 $\pm$ 0.016).
Conclusion: The ResNCT model synthesized nephrographic phase CT images with high similarity to ground truth images. The ResNCT model provides a means of eliminating the acquisition of the nephrographic phase with a resultant 33% reduction in radiation dose for CTU examinations.

The rapid development and adoption of Generative AI (GAI) technology in the form of chatbots such as ChatGPT and Claude has greatly increased interest in agentic machines. This paper introduces the Autonomous Cognitive Entity (ACE) model, a novel framework for a cognitive architecture, enabling machines and software agents to operate more independently. Drawing inspiration from the OSI model, the ACE framework presents layers of abstraction to conceptualize artificial cognitive architectures. The model is designed to harness the capabilities of the latest generative AI technologies, including large language models (LLMs) and multimodal generative models (MMMs), to build autonomous, agentic systems. The ACE framework comprises six layers: the Aspirational Layer, Global Strategy, Agent Model, Executive Function, Cognitive Control, and Task Prosecution. Each layer plays a distinct role, ranging from setting the moral compass and strategic thinking to task selection and execution. The ACE framework also incorporates mechanisms for handling failures and adapting actions, thereby enhancing the robustness and flexibility of autonomous agents. This paper introduces the conceptual framework and proposes implementation strategies that have been tested and observed in industry. The goal of this paper is to formalize this framework so as to be more accessible.

Small business classification is a difficult and important task within many applications, including customer segmentation. Training on small business names introduces gender and geographic origin biases. A model for predicting one of 66 business types based only upon the business name was developed in this work (top-1 f1-score = 60.2%). Two approaches to removing the bias from this model are explored: replacing given names with a placeholder token, and augmenting the training data with gender-swapped examples. The results for these approaches is reported, and the bias in the model was reduced by hiding given names from the model. However, bias reduction was accomplished at the expense of classification performance (top-1 f1-score = 56.6%). Augmentation of the training data with gender-swap** samples proved less effective at bias reduction than the name hiding approach on the evaluated dataset.

This paper explores the use of this technique in a production setting, applying Neural Style Transfer to redraw key scenes in 'Come Swim' in the style of the impressionistic painting that inspired the film. We document how the technique can be driven within the framework of an iterative creative process to achieve a desired look, and propose a map** of the broad parameter space to a key set of creative controls. We hope that this map** can provide insights into priorities for future research.

Scientists are drawn to synchrotrons and accelerator based light sources because of their brightness, coherence and flux. The rate of improvement in brightness and detector technology has outpaced Moore's law growth seen for computers, networks, and storage, and is enabling novel observations and discoveries with faster frame rates, larger fields of view, higher resolution, and higher dimensionality. Here we present an integrated software/algorithmic framework designed to capitalize on high throughput experiments, and describe the streamlined processing pipeline of ptychography data analysis. The pipeline provides throughput, compression, and resolution as well as rapid feedback to the microscope operators.

The purpose of this paper is to report on the most recent developments in our ongoing investigation of the representation and manipulation of uncertainty in automated reasoning systems. In our earlier studies (Tong and Shapiro, 1985) we described a series of experiments with RUBRIC (Tong et al., 1985), a system for full-text document retrieval, that generated some interesting insights into the effects of choosing among a class of scalar valued uncertainty calculi. [n order to extend these results we have begun a new series of experiments with a larger class of representations and calculi, and to help perform these experiments we have developed a general purpose inference engine.
