Malaria is considered one of the deadliest diseases in today world which causes thousands of deaths per year. The parasites responsible for malaria are scientifically known as Plasmodium which infects the red blood cells in human beings. The parasites are transmitted by a female class of mosquitos known as Anopheles. The diagnosis of malaria requires identification and manual counting of parasitized cells by medical practitioners in microscopic blood smears. Due to the unavailability of resources, its diagnostic accuracy is largely affected by large scale screening. State of the art Computer-aided diagnostic techniques based on deep learning algorithms such as CNNs, with end to end feature extraction and classification, have widely contributed to various image recognition tasks. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of custom made convnet Mosquito-Net, to classify the infected and uninfected cells for malaria diagnosis which could be deployed on the edge and mobile devices owing to its fewer parameters and less computation power. Therefore, it can be wildly preferred for diagnosis in remote and countryside areas where there is a lack of medical facilities.

Abstract:
Conventional approaches to image de-fencing have limited themselves to using only image data in adjacent frames of the captured video of an approximately static scene. In this work, we present a method to harness disparity using a stereo pair of fenced images in order to detect fence pixels. Conventional approaches to image de-fencing have limited themselves to using only image data in adjacent frames of the captured video of an approximately static scene. In this work, we present a method to harness disparity using a stereo pair of fenced images in order to detect fence pixels. Tourists and amateur photographers commonly carry smartphones/phablets which can be used to capture a short video sequence of the fenced scene. We model the formation of the occluded frames in the captured video. Furthermore, we propose an optimization framework to estimate the de-fenced image using the total variation prior to regularize the ill-posed problem.

This paper proposes OCR++, an open-source framework designed for a variety of information extraction tasks from scholarly articles including metadata (title, author names, affiliation and e-mail), structure (section headings and body text, table and figure headings, URLs and footnotes) and bibliography (citation instances and references). We analyze a diverse set of scientific articles written in English language to understand generic writing patterns and formulate rules to develop this hybrid framework. Extensive evaluations show that the proposed framework outperforms the existing state-of-the-art tools with huge margin in structural information extraction along with improved performance in metadata and bibliography extraction tasks, both in terms of accuracy (around 50% improvement) and processing time (around 52% improvement). A user experience study conducted with the help of 30 researchers reveals that the researchers found this system to be very helpful. As an additional objective, we discuss two novel use cases including automatically extracting links to public datasets from the proceedings, which would further accelerate the advancement in digital libraries. The result of the framework can be exported as a whole into structured TEI-encoded documents. Our framework is accessible online at http://cnergres.iitkgp.ac.in/OCR++/home/.

The job of software effort estimation is a critical one in the early stages of the software development life cycle when the details of requirements are usually not clearly identified. Various optimization techniques help in improving the accuracy of effort estimation. The Support Vector Regression (SVR) is one of several different soft-computing techniques that help in getting optimal estimated values. The idea of SVR is based upon the computation of a linear regression function in a high dimensional feature space where the input data are mapped via a nonlinear function. Further, the SVR kernel methods can be applied in transforming the input data and then based on these transformations, an optimal boundary between the possible outputs can be obtained. The main objective of the research work carried out in this paper is to estimate the software effort using use case point approach. The use case point approach relies on the use case diagram to estimate the size and effort of software projects. Then, an attempt has been made to optimize the results obtained from use case point analysis using various SVR kernel methods to achieve better prediction accuracy.

In this paper we have investigated the performance of PSO Particle Swarm Optimization based clustering on few real world data sets and one artificial data set. The performances are measured by two metric namely quantization error and inter-cluster distance. The K means clustering algorithm is first implemented for all data sets, the results of which form the basis of comparison of PSO based approaches. We have explored different variants of PSO such as gbest, lbest ring, lbest vonneumann and Hybrid PSO for comparison purposes. The results reveal that PSO based clustering algorithms perform better compared to K means in all data sets.
