We consider a constellation of low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellites connected to a handheld device on the ground. Due to the very large orbital speed, an effective handover strategy becomes of paramount importance. In particular, we study the benefits of soft handover in the uplink from the physical-layer point of view. We give a realistic model for both the ground-to-satellite and the inter-satellite links, following the 3GPP channel model for the former. We suppose that, during handover from a serving satellite to a target satellite, one of the two satellites forwards the received signal from the ground user to the other, thus acting as a relay. We quantify through simulations the loss of hard handover, compared to soft handover. For the latter, we test both amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) relaying techniques and verify that, at least in the simulated conditions, DF does not repay, in terms of block error rate (BLER), the increase of complexity with respect to AF. Also, we study the effect of the LEO constellation size on the network BLER. Finally, we show that, with soft handover, the impact of misalignment on the inter-satellite link is severe, especially at optical frequencies.

Existing fashion recommendation systems encounter difficulties in using visual data for accurate and personalized recommendations. This research describes an innovative end-to-end pipeline that uses artificial intelligence to provide fine-grained visual interpretation for fashion recommendations. When customers upload images of desired products or outfits, the system automatically generates meaningful descriptions emphasizing stylistic elements. These captions guide retrieval from a global fashion product catalogue to offer similar alternatives that fit the visual characteristics of the original image. On a dataset of over 100,000 categorized fashion photos, the pipeline was trained and evaluated. The F1-score for the object detection model was 0.97, exhibiting exact fashion object recognition capabilities optimized for recommendation. This visually aware system represents a key advancement in customer engagement through personalized fashion recommendations

Due to their highly parallel multi-cores architecture, GPUs are being increasingly used in a wide range of computationally intensive applications. Compared to CPUs, GPUs can achieve higher performances at accelerating the programs' execution in an energy-efficient way. Therefore GPGPU computing is useful for high performance computing applications and in many scientific research fields. In order to bring further performance improvements, GPU clusters are increasingly adopted. The energy consumed by GPUs cannot be neglected. Therefore, an energy-efficient time scheduling of the programs that are going to be executed by the parallel GPUs based on their deadline as well as the assigned priorities could be deployed to face their energetic avidity. For this reason, we present in this paper a model enabling the measure of the power consumption and the time execution of some elementary operations running on a single GPU using a new developed energy measurement protocol. Consequently, using our methodology, energy needs of a program could be predicted, allowing a better task scheduling.
