Characterization of Nearly Self-Orthogonal Quasi-Twisted Codes and Related Quantum Codes
Abstract: Quasi-twisted codes are used here as the classical ingredients in the so-called Construction X for quantum error-control codes. The construction utilizes nearly self-orthogonal codes to design quantum stabilizer codes. We expand the choices of the inner product to also cover the symplectic and trace-symplectic inner products, in addition to the original Hermitian one. A refined lower bound on the… ▽ More

Improved Spectral Bound for Quasi-Cyclic Codes
Abstract: Spectral bounds form a powerful tool to estimate the minimum distances of quasi-cyclic codes. They generalize the defining set bounds of cyclic codes to those of quasi-cyclic codes. Based on the eigenvalues of quasi-cyclic codes and the corresponding eigenspaces, we provide an improved spectral bound for quasi-cyclic codes. Numerical results verify that the improved bound outperforms the Jensen bo… ▽ More

Eurythmic Dancing with Plants -- Measuring Plant Response to Human Body Movement in an Anthroposophic Environment
Abstract: This paper describes three experiments measuring interaction of humans with garden plants. In particular, body movement of a human conducting eurythmic dances near the plants (beetroots, tomatoes, lettuce) is correlated with the action potential measured by a plant SpikerBox, a device measuring the electrical activity of plants, and the leaf movement of the plant, tracked with a camera. The first… ▽ More

A Comparison of Distance Bounds for Quasi-Twisted Codes
Abstract: Spectral bounds on the minimum distance of quasi-twisted codes over finite fields are proposed, based on eigenvalues of polynomial matrices and the corresponding eigenspaces. They generalize the Semenov-Trifonov and Zeh-Ling bounds in a way similar to how the Roos and shift bounds extend the BCH and HT bounds for cyclic codes. The eigencodes of a quasi-twisted code in the spectral theory and the o… ▽ More

Quasi-Cyclic Codes
Abstract: Quasi-cyclic codes form an important class of algebraic codes that includes cyclic codes as a special subclass. This chapter focuses on the algebraic structure of quasi-cyclic codes, first. Based on these structural properties, some asymptotic results, a few minimum distance bounds and further applications such as the trace representation and characterization of certain subfamilies of quasi-cyclic… ▽ More

Spectral Bounds for Quasi-Twisted Codes
Abstract: New lower bounds on the minimum distance of quasi-twisted codes over finite fields are proposed. They are based on spectral analysis and eigenvalues of polynomial matrices. They generalize the Semenov-Trifonov and Zeh-Ling bounds in a manner similar to how the Roos and shift bounds extend the BCH and HT bounds for cyclic codes.

Good Stabilizer Codes from Quasi-Cyclic Codes over $\mathbb{F}_4$ and $\mathbb{F}_9$
Abstract: We apply quantum Construction X on quasi-cyclic codes with large Hermitian hulls over $\mathbb{F}_4$ and $\mathbb{F}_9$ to derive good qubit and qutrit stabilizer codes, respectively. In several occasions we obtain quantum codes with stricly improved parameters than the current record. In numerous other occasions we obtain quantum codes with best-known performance. For the qutrit ones we supply a… ▽ More

On linear complementary-dual multinegacirculant codes
Abstract: Linear codes with complementary-duals (LCD) are linear codes that intersect with their dual trivially. Multinegacirculant codes of index $2$ that are LCD are characterized algebraically and some good codes are found in this family. Exact enumeration is performed for indices 2 and 3, and for all indices $t$ for a special case of the co-index by using their concatenated structure. Asymptotic existen… ▽ More

Quasi-cyclic subcodes of cyclic codes
Abstract: We completely characterize possible indices of quasi-cyclic subcodes in a cyclic code for a very broad class of cyclic codes. We present enumeration results for quasi-cyclic subcodes of a fixed index and show that the problem of enumeration is equivalent to enumeration of certain vector subspaces in finite fields. In particular, we present enumeration results for quasi-cyclic subcodes of the simpl… ▽ More

Quasi-Cyclic Complementary Dual Code
Abstract: LCD codes are linear codes that intersect with their dual trivially. Quasi cyclic codes that are LCD are characterized and studied by using their concatenated structure. Some asymptotic results are derived. Hermitian LCD codes are introduced to that end and their cyclic subclass is characterized. Constructions of QCCD codes from codes over larger alphabets are given.

The combinatorics of LCD codes: Linear Programming bound and orthogonal matrices
Abstract: Linear Complementary Dual codes (LCD) are binary linear codes that meet their dual trivially. We construct LCD codes using orthogonal matrices, self-dual codes, combinatorial designs and Gray map from codes over the family of rings $R_k$. We give a linear programming bound on the largest size of an LCD code of given length and minimum distance. We make a table of lower bounds for this combinatoria… ▽ More
