The Virtual Observatory (VO) simulation standards, Simulation Data Model (SimDM) and Simulation Data Access Layer (SimDAL), establish a framework for the discoverability and dissemination of data created in simulation projects. These standards address the complexity of having a standard access and facade for data which is expected to be multifaceted and, of a diverse range. In this paper, we detail the realisation of an application exposing the theoretical products of one such scientific project via the simulation facades proposed by the VO. The scientific project in question, is a study of the evolution of young clusters in dense molecular clumps. The theoretical products arising from this study include a grid of 20 million SED (Spectral Energy Distribution) models for synthetic young clusters and related data products. Details on the implementation of SimDAL components in the application as well as the ways in which the data structures of SimDM are incorporated onto the existing data products are provided.

We present an innovative method called FilExSeC (Filaments Extraction, Selection and Classification), a data mining tool developed to investigate the possibility to refine and optimize the shape reconstruction of filamentary structures detected with a consolidated method based on the flux derivative analysis, through the column-density maps computed from Herschel infrared Galactic Plane Survey (Hi-GAL) observations of the Galactic plane. The present methodology is based on a feature extraction module followed by a machine learning model (Random Forest) dedicated to select features and to classify the pixels of the input images. From tests on both simulations and real observations the method appears reliable and robust with respect to the variability of shape and distribution of filaments. In the cases of highly defined filament structures, the presented method is able to bridge the gaps among the detected fragments, thus improving their shape reconstruction. From a preliminary "a posteriori" analysis of derived filament physical parameters, the method appears potentially able to add a sufficient contribution to complete and refine the filament reconstruction.

Abstract:
An extensive rewiring of cell metabolism supports enhanced proliferation in cancer cells. We propose a systems level approach to describe this phenomenon based on Flux Balance Analysis (FBA). The approach does not explicit a cell biomass formation reaction to be maximized, but takes into account an ensemble of alternative flux distributions that match the cancer metabolic rewiring (CMR) phenotype…

An extensive rewiring of cell metabolism supports enhanced proliferation in cancer cells. We propose a systems level approach to describe this phenomenon based on Flux Balance Analysis (FBA). The approach does not explicit a cell biomass formation reaction to be maximized, but takes into account an ensemble of alternative flux distributions that match the cancer metabolic rewiring (CMR) phenotype description. The underlying concept is that the analysis the common/distinguishing properties of the ensemble can provide indications on how CMR is achieved and sustained and thus on how it can be controlled.
