Heterogeneous virus classification using a functional deep learning model based on transmission electron microscopy images (Preprint)

Due to their multiple transmission pathways, high contagion rate, and lethality, viruses are the biggest biological threat faced by animal and plant species. It is often challenging to promptly detect the presence of a virus in a possible host's body and accurately determine its type using manual examination techniques; however, it can be done using computer-based automatic diagnosis methods. Most notably, the analysis of Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) images has been proven to be quite successful in instant virus identification. Using TEM images collected from a recently published dataset, this article proposes a deep learning-based classification model to identify the type of virus within those images correctly. The methodology of this study includes two coherent image processing techniques to reduce the noise present in the raw microscopy images. Experimental results show that it can differentiate among the 14 types of viruses present in the dataset with a maximum of 97.44% classification accuracy and F1-score, which asserts the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method. Implementing this scheme will impart a fast and dependable way of virus identification subsidiary to the thorough diagnostic procedures. △ Less

Unveiling A Hidden Risk: Exposing Educational but Malicious Repositories in GitHub

Thus, analyzing GitHub repositories deserves inevitable attention due to its open-source nature providing easy access to malicious software code and artifacts. Here we leverage the capabilities of ChatGPT in a qualitative study to annotate an educational GitHub repository based on maliciousness of its metadata contents. Our contribution is twofold. First, we demonstrate the employment of ChatGPT to understand and annotate the content published in software repositories. Second, we provide evidence of hidden risk in educational repositories contributing to the opportunities of potential threats and malicious intents. We carry out a systematic study on a collection of 35.2K GitHub repositories claimed to be created for educational purposes only. First, our study finds an increasing trend in the number of such repositories published every year. Second, 9294 of them are labeled by ChatGPT as malicious, and further categorization of the malicious ones detects 14 different malware families including DDoS, keylogger, ransomware and so on. We also introduce a number of neighbor selection algorithms to determine the patients with the highest similarity on the generated embeddings. To validate the effectiveness of our framework for measuring patient similarity, we select the detection of Atrial Fibrillation (AF) through photoplethysmography (PPG) signals obtained from smartwatch devices as our case study. In a develo** country like Bangladesh, where ready-made garments sector is one of the major sources of the total Gross Domestic Product (GDP), most of the wastes released from the garment factories are dumped into the nearest rivers or canals. Hence, the quality of the water of these bodies become very incompatible for the living beings, and so, it has become one of the major threats to the environment and human health. In addition, the amount of fish in the rivers and canals in Bangladesh is decreasing day by day as a result of water pollution. Therefore, to save fish and other water animals and the environment, we need to monitor the quality of the water and find out the reasons for the pollution. Real-time monitoring of the quality of water is vital for controlling water pollution. Most of the approaches for controlling water pollution are mainly biological and lab-based, which takes a lot of time and resources. To address this issue, we developed an Internet of Things (IoT)-based real-time water quality monitoring system, integrated with a mobile application. The proposed system in this research measures some of the most important indexes of water, including the potential of hydrogen (pH), total dissolved solids (TDS), and turbidity, and temperature of water. Deep Learning-Based Sentiment Analysis of COVID-19 Vaccination Responses from Twitter Data

Even after vaccination against Coronavirus has been initiated, people feelings have become more diverse and complex, and our goal is to understand and unravel their sentiments in this research using some Deep Learning techniques. Social media is currently the best way to express feelings and emotions, and with the help of it, specifically Twitter, one can have a better idea of what is trending and what is going on in people minds. Our motivation for this research is to understand the sentiment of people regarding the vaccination process, and their diverse thoughts regarding this. In this research, the timeline of the collected tweets was from December 21 to July 21, and contained tweets about the most common vaccines available recently from all across the world. The sentiments of people regarding vaccines of all sorts were assessed by using a Natural Language Processing (NLP) tool named Valence Aware Dictionary for sEntiment Reasoner (VADER). By initializing the sentiment polarities into 3 groups (positive, negative and neutral), the overall scenario was visualized here and our findings came out as 33.96% positive, 17.55% negative and 48.49% neutral responses. Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) oriented architecture such as Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM and Bi-LSTM) is used to assess the performance of the predictive models, with LSTM achieving an accuracy of 90.59% and Bi-LSTM achieving an accuracy of 90.83%. Other performance metrics such as Precision, Recall, F-1 score, and Confusion matrix were also shown to validate our models and findings more effectively. This study will help everyone understand public opinion on the COVID-19 vaccines and impact the aim of eradicating the Coronavirus from our beautiful world. △ Less

Abstract: The Bangla language is the seventh most spoken language, with 265 million native and non-native speakers worldwide. However, English is the predominant language for online resources and technical knowledge, journals, and documentation. To bridge the gap between limited support… ▽ More The Bangla language is the seventh most spoken language, with 265 million native and non-native speakers worldwide. However, English is the predominant language for online resources and technical knowledge, journals, and documentation. Consequently, many Bangla-speaking people, who have limited command of English, face hurdles to utilize English resources. To bridge the gap between limited support and increasing demand, researchers conducted many experiments and developed valuable tools and techniques to create and process Bangla language materials. Many efforts are also ongoing to make it easy to use the Bangla language in the online and technical domains. There are some review papers to understand the past, previous, and future Bangla Natural Language Processing (BNLP) trends. The studies are mainly concentrated on the specific domains of BNLP, such as sentiment analysis, speech recognition, optical character recognition, and text summarization. There is an apparent scarcity of resources that contain a comprehensive review of the recent BNLP tools and methods. Therefore, in this paper, we present a thorough analysis of 75 BNLP research papers and categorize them into 11 categories, namely Information Extraction, Machine Translation, Named Entity Recognition, Parsing, Parts of Speech Tagging, Question Answering System, Sentiment Analysis, Spam and Fake Detection, Text Summarization, Word Sense Disambiguation, and Speech Processing and Recognition. We study articles published between 1999 to 2021, and 50% of the papers were published after 2015. Furthermore, we discuss Classical, Machine Learning and Deep Learning approaches with different datasets while addressing the limitations and current and future trends of the BNLP. △ Less

BayesBeat: Reliable Atrial Fibrillation Detection from Noisy Photoplethysmography Data

To further widen their health tracking capabilities, in recent years researchers have started to look into the possibility of Atrial Fibrillation (AF) detection in real-time leveraging photoplethysmography (PPG) data, an inexpensive sensor widely available in almost all smartwatches. A significant challenge in AF detection from PPG signals comes from the inherent noise in the smartwatch PPG signals. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning based approach, BayesBeat that leverages the power of Bayesian deep learning to accurately infer AF risks from noisy PPG signals, and at the same time provides an uncertainty estimate of the prediction. Extensive experiments on two publicly available dataset reveal that our proposed method BayesBeat outperforms the existing state-of-the-art methods. Moreover, BayesBeat is substantially more efficient having 40-200X fewer parameters than state-of-the-art baseline approaches making it suitable for deployment in resource constrained wearable devices. △ Less

Controlling the Outbreak of COVID-19: A Noncooperative Game Perspective

However, isolation and social distancing are seemed to be effective preventive measures to control this pandemic. Therefore, in this paper, an optimization problem is formulated that accommodates both isolation and social distancing features of the individuals. To promote social distancing, we solve the formulated problem by applying a noncooperative game that can provide an incentive for maintaining social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Furthermore, the sustainability of the lockdown policy is interpreted with the help of our proposed game-theoretic incentive model for maintaining social distancing where there exists a Nash equilibrium. Finally, we perform an extensive numerical analysis that shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach in terms of achieving the desired social-distancing to prevent the outbreak of the COVID-19 in a noncooperative environment. Numerical results show that the individual incentive increases more than 85% with an increasing percentage of home isolation from 25% to 100% for all considered scenarios. The numerical results also demonstrate that in a particular percentage of home isolation, the individual incentive decreases with an increasing number of individuals. △ Less

Coexistence Mechanism between eMBB and uRLLC in 5G Wireless Networks

In this paper, we study the co-scheduling problem of eMBB and uRLLC traffic based upon the puncturing technique. Precisely, we formulate an optimization problem aiming to maximize the MEAR of eMBB UEs while fulfilling the provisions of the uRLLC traffic. We decompose the original problem into two sub-problems, namely scheduling problem of eMBB UEs and uRLLC UEs while prevailing objective unchanged. Radio resources are scheduled among the eMBB UEs on a time slot basis, whereas it is handled for uRLLC UEs on a mini-slot basis. Moreover, for resolving the scheduling issue of eMBB UEs, we use PSUM based algorithm, whereas the optimal TM is adopted for solving the same problem of uRLLC UEs. Furthermore, a heuristic algorithm is also provided to solve the first sub-problem with lower complexity. Finally, the significance of the proposed approach over other baseline approaches is established through numerical analysis in terms of the MEAR and fairness scores of the eMBB UEs. △ Less

The obvious solution to this challenge is to reduce the amount of data without information loss. Dimension reduction is considered the most popular approach for reducing data size and also to reduce noise and redundancies in data. In this paper, we investigate the effect of feature selection in improving the prediction of patient deterioration in ICUs. We consider lab tests as features. Thus, choosing a subset of features would mean choosing the most important lab tests to perform. If the number of tests can be reduced by identifying the most important tests, then we could also identify the redundant tests. By omitting the redundant tests, observation time could be reduced and early treatment could be provided to avoid the risk. Additionally, unnecessary monetary cost would be avoided. Our approach uses state-ofthe- art feature selection for predicting ICU patient deterioration using the medical lab results. We apply our technique on the publicly available MIMIC-II database and show the effectiveness of the feature selection. We also provide a detailed analysis of the best features identified by our approach. △ Less

We have done the performance analysis of these modulation techniques when the system is subjected to Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and multipath Rayleigh fading are considered in the channel. The research has been performed by using MATLAB 7.6 for simulation and evaluation of Bit Error Rate (BER) and Signal-To-Noise Ratio (SNR) for W-CDMA system models.
