High-quality healthcare in the US can be cost-prohibitive for certain socioeconomic groups. In this paper, we examined data from the US Census and the CDC to determine the degree to which specific socioeconomic factors correlate with both specific and general health metrics. We employed visual analysis to find broad trends and predictive modeling to identify more complex relationships between variables. Our results indicate that certain socioeconomic factors, like income and educational attainment, are highly correlated with aggregate measures of health.

To mitigate these issues, strategies that reduce the power consumption of the processor are the need of the hour. Techniques such as Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS) exist which reduce the power consumption of a processor at runtime but they should be used in such a manner so that their overhead does not hamper application performance. In this paper, we propose an energy saving strategy which operates on timeslice basis to apply DVFS under a user defined performance constraint. Results show energy savings up to 7% when NAS benchmarks are tested on a laptop platform

This study presents a multimodal machine learning model to predict ICD-10 diagnostic codes. We developed separate machine learning models that can handle data from different modalities, including unstructured text, semi-structured text and structured tabular data. We further employed an ensemble method to integrate all modality-specific models to generate ICD-10 codes. Key evidence was also extracted to make our prediction more convincing and explainable. We used the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III (MIMIC -III) dataset to validate our approach. For ICD code prediction, our best-performing model (micro-F1 = 0.7633, micro-AUC = 0.9541) significantly outperforms other baseline models including TF-IDF (micro-F1 = 0.6721, micro-AUC = 0.7879) and Text-CNN model (micro-F1 = 0.6569, micro-AUC = 0.9235). For interpretability, our approach achieves a Jaccard Similarity Coefficient (JSC) of 0.1806 on text data and 0.3105 on tabular data, where well-trained physicians achieve 0.2780 and 0.5002 respectively.

In this paper, a method is proposed to detect the emotion of a song based on its lyrical and audio features. Lyrical features are generated by segmentation of lyrics during the process of data extraction. ANEW and WordNet knowledge is then incorporated to compute Valence and Arousal values. In addition to this, linguistic association rules are applied to ensure that the issue of ambiguity is properly addressed. Audio features are used to supplement the lyrical ones and include attributes like energy, tempo, and danceability. These features are extracted from The Echo Nest, a widely used music intelligence platform. Construction of training and test sets is done on the basis of social tags extracted from the last.fm website. The classification is done by applying feature weighting and stepwise threshold reduction on the k-Nearest Neighbors algorithm to provide fuzziness in the classification.
