Abstract:
Brain tumor segmentation is highly contributive in diagnosing and treatment planning. The manual brain tumor delineation is a time-consuming and tedious task and varies depending on the radiologists skill. Automated brain tumor segmentation is of high importance, and does not depend on either inter or intra-observation. The objective of this study is to automate the delineation of brain tumors fro…

The objective of this study is to automate the delineation of brain tumors from the FLAIR, T1 weighted, T2 weighted, and T1 weighted contrast-enhanced MR sequences through a deep learning approach, with a focus on determining which MR sequence alone or which combination thereof would lead to the highest accuracy therein.

This paper introduces a novel and distributed method for detecting inter-map loop closure outliers in simultaneous localization and map** (SLAM). The proposed algorithm does not rely on a good initialization and can handle more than two maps at a time. In multi-robot SLAM applications, maps made by different agents have nonidentical spatial frames of reference which makes initialization very difficult in the presence of outliers. This paper presents a probabilistic approach for detecting incorrect orientation measurements prior to pose graph optimization by checking the geometric consistency of rotation measurements. Expectation-Maximization is used to fine-tune the model parameters. As ancillary contributions, a new approximate discrete inference procedure is presented which uses evidence on loops in a graph and is based on optimization (Alternate Direction Method of Multipliers). This method yields superior results compared to Belief Propagation and has convergence guarantees. Simulation and experimental results are presented that evaluate the performance of the outlier detection method and the inference algorithm on synthetic and real-world data.

This article explores and analyzes the unsupervised clustering of large partially observed graphs. We propose a scalable and provable randomized framework for clustering graphs generated from the stochastic block model. The clustering is first applied to a sub-matrix of the graph's adjacency matrix associated with a reduced graph sketch constructed using random sampling. Then, the clusters of the full graph are inferred based on the clusters extracted from the sketch using a correlation-based retrieval step. Uniform random node sampling is shown to improve the computational complexity over clustering of the full graph when the cluster sizes are balanced. A new random degree-based node sampling algorithm is presented which significantly improves upon the performance of the clustering algorithm even when clusters are unbalanced. This framework improves the phase transitions for matrix-decomposition-based clustering with regard to computational complexity and minimum cluster size, which are shown to be nearly dimension-free in the low inter-cluster connectivity regime. A third sampling technique is shown to improve balance by randomly sampling nodes based on spatial distribution. We provide analysis and numerical results using a convex clustering algorithm based on matrix completion.
