Meta-surfaces, also known as Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), have emerged as a cost-effective, low power consumption, and flexible solution for enabling multiple applications in Internet of Things (IoT). However, in the context of meta-surface-assisted multi-pair IoT communications, significant interference issues often arise amount multiple channels. This issue is particularly pronounced in scenarios characterized by Line-of-Sight (LoS) conditions, where the channels exhibit low rank due to the significant correlation in propagation paths. These challenges pose a considerable threat to the quality of communication when multiplexing data streams. In this paper, we introduce a meta-surface-aided communication scheme for multi-pair interactions in IoT environments. Inspired by holographic technology, a novel compensation method on the whole meta-surface has been proposed, which allows for independent multi-pair direct data streams transmission with low interference. To further reduce correlation under LoS channel conditions, we propose a vortex beam-based solution that leverages the low correlation property between distinct topological modes. We use different vortex beams to carry distinct data streams, thereby enabling distinct receivers to capture their intended signal with low interference, aided by holographic meta-surfaces. Moreover, a prototype has been performed successfully to demonstrate two-pair multi-node communication scenario operating at 10 GHz with QPSK/16-QAM modulation.

We present a caricature generation framework based on shape and style manipulation using StyleGAN. Our framework, dubbed StyleCariGAN, automatically creates a realistic and detailed caricature from an input photo with optional controls on shape exaggeration degree and color stylization type. The key component of our method is shape exaggeration blocks that are used for modulating coarse layer feature maps of StyleGAN to produce desirable caricature shape exaggerations. We first build a layer-mixed StyleGAN for photo-to-caricature style conversion by swap** fine layers of the StyleGAN for photos to the corresponding layers of the StyleGAN trained to generate caricatures. Given an input photo, the layer-mixed model produces detailed color stylization for a caricature but without shape exaggerations. We then append shape exaggeration blocks to the coarse layers of the layer-mixed model and train the blocks to create shape exaggerations while preserving the characteristic appearances of the input. Experimental results show that our StyleCariGAN generates realistic and detailed caricatures compared to the current state-of-the-art methods. We demonstrate StyleCariGAN also supports other StyleGAN-based image manipulations, such as facial expression control.

While deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have shown extraordinary capability of modelling specific noise and denoising, they still perform poorly on real-world noisy images. The main reason is that the real-world noise is more sophisticated and diverse. To tackle the issue of blind denoising, in this paper, we propose a novel pyramid real image denoising network (PRIDNet), which contains three stages. First, the noise estimation stage uses channel attention mechanism to recalibrate the channel importance of input noise. Second, at the multi-scale denoising stage, pyramid pooling is utilized to extract multi-scale features. Third, the stage of feature fusion adopts a kernel selecting operation to adaptively fuse multi-scale features. Experiments on two datasets of real noisy photographs demonstrate that our approach can achieve competitive performance in comparison with state-of-the-art denoisers in terms of both quantitative measure and visual perception quality. In recent years, there is an increasing demand of big memory systems so to perform large scale data analytics. Since DRAM memories are expensive, some researchers are suggesting to use other memory systems such as non-volatile memory (NVM) technology to build large-memory computing systems. However, whether the NVM technology can be a viable alternative (either economically and technically) to DRAM remains an open question. To answer this question, it is important to consider how to design a memory system from a "system perspective", that is, incorporating different performance characteristics and price ratios from hybrid memory devices.
This paper presents an analytical model of a "hybrid page cache system" so to understand the diverse design space and performance impact of a hybrid cache system. We consider (1) various architectural choices, (2) design strategies, and (3) configuration of different memory devices. Using this model, we provide guidelines on how to design hybrid page cache to reach a good trade-off between high system throughput (in I/O per sec or IOPS) and fast cache reactivity which is defined by the time to fill the cache. We also show how one can configure the DRAM capacity and NVM capacity under a fixed budget. We pick PCM as an example for NVM and conduct numerical analysis. Our analysis indicates that incorporating PCM in a page cache system significantly improves the system performance, and it also shows larger benefit to allocate more PCM in page cache in some cases. Besides, for the common setting of performance-price ratio of PCM, "flat architecture" offers as a better choice, but "layered architecture" outperforms if PCM write performance can be significantly improved in the future.

We proposed an algorithm for solving Hamilton-Jacobi equation associated to an optimal trajectory problem for a vehicle moving inside the pre-specified domain with the speed depending upon the direction of the motion and current position of the vehicle. The dynamics of the vehicle is defined by an ordinary differential equation, the right hand of which is given by product of control(a time dependent fuction) and a function dependent on trajectory and control. At some unspecified terminal time, the vehicle reaches the boundary of the pre-specified domain and incurs a terminal cost. We also associate the traveling cost with a type of integral to the trajectory followed by vehicle. We are interested in a numerical method for finding a trajectory that minimizes the sum of the traveling cost and terminal cost. We developed an algorithm solving the value function for general trajectory optimization problem. Our algorithm is closely related to the Tsitsiklis's Fast Marching Method and J. A. Sethian's OUM and SLF-LLL[1-4] and is a generalization of them. On the basis of these results, We applied our algorithm to the image processing such as fingerprint verification.
