Climate risk assessment is becoming increasingly important. For organisations, identifying and assessing climate-related risks is challenging, as they can come from multiple sources. This study identifies and assesses the main climate transition risks in the colombian processed food sector. As transition risks are vague, our approach uses Fuzzy Logic and compares it to various multi-criteria decision-making methods to classify the different climate transition risks an organisation may be exposed to. This approach allows us to use linguistic expressions for risk analysis and to better describe risks and their consequences. The results show that the risks ranked as the most critical for this organisation in their order were price volatility and raw materials availability, the change to less carbon-intensive production or consumption patterns, the increase in carbon taxes and technological change, and the associated development or implementation costs. These risks show a critical risk level, which implies that they are the most significant risks for the organisation in the case study. These results highlight the importance of investments needed to meet regulatory requirements, which are the main drivers for organisations at the financial level.

In this position paper, we explore the power of storytelling and its connection to place through the use of Augmented Reality (AR) technology, particularly within the context of Thámien Ohlone history on the Santa Clara University campus. To do this, we utilized SLAM and 8th Wall to create virtual, location-based experiences that geolocate tribal stories at present-day sites, showcase the living culture of the Thámien Ohlone tribe, and advocate for physical markers that could exist to recognize their story. When doing so, we made sure to select locations that added to the story each stop tells to serve as our anchors. Our research then investigates both the social and technical considerations involved in selecting anchors for AR experiences, using the Thámien Ohlone AR Tour as a case study.

Gaussian random number generators attract a widespread interest due to their applications in several fields. Important requirements include easy implementation, tail accuracy, and, finally, a flat spectrum. In this work, we study the applicability of uniform pseudorandom binary generators in combination with the Central Limit Theorem to propose an easy to implement, efficient and flexible algorithm that leverages the properties of the pseudorandom binary generator used as an input, specially with respect to the correlation measure of higher order, to guarantee the quality of the generated samples. Our main result provides a relationship between the pseudorandomness of the input and the statistical moments of the output. We propose a design based on the combination of pseudonoise sequences commonly used on wireless communications with known hardware implementation, which can generate sequences with guaranteed statistical distribution properties sufficient for many real life applications and simple machinery. Initial computer simulations on this construction show promising results in the quality of the output and the computational resources in terms of required memory and complexity.

Ensuring the reliability of power electronic converters is a matter of great importance, and data-driven condition monitoring techniques are cementing themselves as an important tool for this purpose. However, translating methods that work well in controlled lab environments to field applications presents significant challenges, notably because of the limited diversity and accuracy of the lab training data. By enabling the use of field data, online machine learning can be a powerful tool to overcome this problem, but it introduces additional challenges in ensuring the stability and predictability of the training processes. This work presents an edge computing method that mitigates these shortcomings with minimal additional memory usage, by employing an autonomous algorithm that prioritizes the storage of training samples with larger prediction errors. The method is demonstrated on the use case of a self-commissioning condition monitoring system, in the form of a thermal anomaly detection scheme for a variable frequency motor drive, where the algorithm self-learned to distinguish normal and anomalous operation with minimal prior knowledge. The obtained results, based on experimental data, show a significant improvement in prediction accuracy and training speed, when compared to equivalent models trained online without the proposed data selection process.

Abstract:
Correlation measure of order $k$ is an important measure of randomness in binary sequences. This measure tries to look for dependence between several shifted version of a sequence.

We simplify and improve several state-of-the-art lower bounds for these two measures using the Hamming bound as well as weaker bounds derived from it.

We obtain the Fisher-Rao metric and the scalar curvature for this model, and we show its relation with the one-dimensional quantum harmonic oscillator. Moreover, using this model we characterize some failies of states of the quantum harmonic oscillator. We find that for the eigenstates of the Hamiltonian, mixtures of eigenstates and even or odd superpositions of eienstates the associated Fisher-Rao metrics are diagonal.

We present an extension of the ergodic, mixing, and Bernoulli levels of the ergodic hierarchy for statistical models on curved manifolds, making use of elements of the information geometry. This extension focuses on the notion of statistical independence between the microscopical variables of the system. Moreover, we establish an intimately relationship between statistical models and family of probability distributions belonging to the canonical ensemble, which for the case of the quadratic Hamiltonian systems provides a closed form for the correlations between the microvariables in terms of the temperature of the heat bath as a power law. From this we obtain an information geometric method for studying Hamiltonian dynamics in the canonical ensemble. We illustrate the results with two examples: a pair of interacting harmonic oscillators presenting phase transitions and the 2x2 Gaussian ensembles. In both examples the scalar curvature results a global indicator of the dynamics.

Some of the new trends emerging in future wireless networks enable a vastly increased fluidity in accessing a wide range of resources, thus supporting flexible network composition and dynamic allocation of resources to virtual network operators (VNOs). In this work we study a new resource allocation opportunity that is enabled by the cloud radio access network architecture. In particular, we investigate the relationship between the cloud-based antennas and spectrum as two important resources in virtualized wireless networks. We analyze the interplay between spectrum and antennas in the context of an auction-based allocation mechanism through which VNOs can bid for a combination of the two types of resources. Our analysis shows that the complementarity and partial substitutability of the two resources significantly impact the results of the allocation of those resources and uncovers the possibility of divergent interests between the spectrum and the infrastructure providers.
