The next generation of Wi-Fi is meant to achieve ultra-high reliability for wireless communication. Several approaches are available to this extent, some of which are being considered for inclusion in standards specifications, including coordination of access points to reduce interference.
In this paper, we propose a centralized architecture based on digital twins, called WiTwin, with the aim of supporting wireless stations in selecting the optimal association according to a set of parameters. Unlike prior works, we assume that Wi-Fi 7 features like multi-link operation (MLO) are available. Moreover, one of the main goals of this architecture is to preserve communication quality in the presence of mobility, by hel** stations to perform reassociation at the right time and in the best way.

By removing wire harness, Wi-Fi is becoming increasingly pervasive in every aspect of our lives, in both the consumer and industrial worlds. Besides flexibility, the recent high efficiency and extremely high throughput versions managed to close the performance gap with Ethernet. However, it still lags behind Ethernet for what concerns dependability. To this aim, the ultra high reliability study group has been recently formed. This paper reports on some preliminary ideas and proposals about the ways seamless redundancy can be exploited to make Wi-Fi more reliable, yet retaining a good degree of backward compatibility with existing network infrastructures.

6G technology targets to revolutionize the mobility industry by revam** the role of wireless connections. In this article, we draw out our vision on an intelligent, cooperative, and sustainable mobility environment of the future, discussing how 6G will positively impact mobility services and applications. The scenario in focus is a densely populated area by smart connected entities that are mutually connected over a 6G virtual bus, which enables access to an extensive and always up-to-date set of context-sensitive information. The augmented dataset is functional to let vehicles engage in adaptive and cooperative learning mechanisms, enabling fully automated functionalities with higher communication integrity and reduced risk of accidents while being a sentient and collaborative processing node of the same ecosystem. Smart sensing and communication technologies are discussed herein, and their convergence is devised by the pervasiveness of artificial intelligence in centralized or distributed and federated network architectures.

Currently, many countries are facing the problems of aging population, serious imbalance of medical resources supply and demand, as well as uneven geographical distribution, resulting in a huge demand for remote e-health. Particularly, with invasions of COVID-19, the health of people and even social stability have been challenged unprecedentedly. To contribute to these urgent problems, this article proposes a general architecture of the remote e-health, where the city hospital provides the technical supports and services for remote hospitals. Meanwhile, 5G technologies supported telemedicine is introduced to satisfy the high-speed transmission of massive multimedia medical data, and further realize the sharing of medical resources. Moreover, to turn passivity into initiative to prevent COVID-19, a broad area epidemic prevention and control scheme is also investigated, especially for the remote areas. We discuss their principles and key features, and foresee the challenges, opportunities, and future research trends. Finally, a node value and content popularity based caching strategy is introduced to provide a preliminary solution of the massive data storage and low-latency transmission.

This paper introduces a new theoretical framework for optimal handover procedures in heterogeneous networks by devising the novel fractional Gittins indices, which are dynamical priorities whose values can be statically associated to the decision states of evolving processes representing handover alternatives. The simple policy of activating at any time the one process currently at highest priority optimizes the bandwidth of a handover, if all other inactive processes remain idle. However, numerical evidence shows that in practice this condition can be relaxed for a wide range of handover models, because the bandwidth actually achieved by the policy never deviates for more than 12% from the optimally achievable bandwidth and remains in median within a deviation of 2% from this optimum.
