Previous research in speech enhancement has mostly focused on modeling time or time-frequency domain information alone, with little consideration given to the potential benefits of simultaneously modeling both domains. Since these domains contain complementary information, combining them may improve the performance of the model. In this letter, we propose a new approach to simultaneously model time and time-frequency domain information in a single model. We begin with the DPT-FSNet (causal version) model as a baseline and modify the encoder structure by replacing the original encoder with three separate encoders, each dedicated to modeling time-domain, real-imaginary, and magnitude information, respectively. Additionally, we introduce a feature fusion module both before and after the dual-path processing blocks to better leverage information from the different domains. The outcomes of our experiments reveal that the proposed approach achieves superior performance compared to existing state-of-the-art causal models, while preserving a relatively compact model size and low computational complexity.

In this paper, we propose a two-stage heterogeneous lightweight network for monaural speech enhancement. Specifically, we design a novel two-stage framework consisting of a coarse-grained full-band mask estimation stage and a fine-grained low-frequency refinement stage. Instead of using a hand-designed real-valued filter, we use a novel learnable complex-valued rectangular bandwidth (LCRB) filter bank as an extractor of compact features. Furthermore, considering the respective characteristics of the proposed two-stage task, we used a heterogeneous structure, i.e., a U-shaped subnetwork as the backbone of CoarseNet and a single-scale subnetwork as the backbone of FineNet. We conducted experiments on the VoiceBank + DEMAND and DNS datasets to evaluate the proposed approach. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the current state-of-the-art methods, while maintaining relatively small model size and low computational complexity.

Event-triggered model predictive control (eMPC) is a popular optimal control method with an aim to alleviate the computation and/or communication burden of MPC. However, it generally requires priori knowledge of the closed-loop system behavior along with the communication characteristics for designing the event-trigger policy. This paper attempts to solve this challenge by proposing an efficient eMPC framework and demonstrate successful implementation of this framework on the autonomous vehicle path following. First of all, a model-free reinforcement learning (RL) agent is used to learn the optimal event-trigger policy without the need for a complete dynamical system and communication knowledge in this framework. Furthermore, techniques including prioritized experience replay (PER) buffer and long-short term memory (LSTM) are employed to foster exploration and improve training efficiency. In this paper, we use the proposed framework with three deep RL algorithms, i.e., Double Q-learning (DDQN), Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO), and Soft Actor-Critic (SAC), to solve this problem. Experimental results show that all three deep RL-based eMPC (deep-RL-eMPC) can achieve better evaluation performance than the conventional threshold-based and previous linear Q-based approach in the autonomous path following. In particular, PPO-eMPC with LSTM and DDQN-eMPC with PER and LSTM obtains a superior balance between the closed-loop control performance and event-trigger frequency. The associated code is open-sourced and available at: https://github.com/DangFengying/RL-based-event-triggered-MPC.

Deep reinforcement learning (DRL) has a great potential for solving complex decision-making problems in autonomous driving, especially in mixed-traffic scenarios where autonomous vehicles and human-driven vehicles (HDVs) drive together. Safety is a key during both the learning and deploying reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms process. In this paper, we formulate the on-ramp merging as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) problem and solve it with an off-policy RL algorithm, i.e., Soft Actor-Critic for Discrete Action Settings (SAC-Discrete). In addition, a motion predictive safety controller including a motion predictor and an action substitution module, is proposed to ensure driving safety during both training and testing. The motion predictor estimates the trajectories of the ego vehicle and surrounding vehicles from kinematic models, and predicts potential collisions. The action substitution module updates the actions based on safety distance and replaces risky actions, before sending them to the low-level controller. We train, evaluate and test our approach on a gym-like highway simulation with three different levels of traffic modes. The simulation results show that even in harder traffic densities, our proposed method still significantly reduces collision rate while maintaining high efficiency, outperforming several state-of-the-art baselines in the considered on-ramp merging scenarios. This paper proposes a dual-path transformer-based full-band and sub-band fusion network (DPT-FSNet) for speech enhancement in the frequency domain. Reading irregular scene text of arbitrary shape in natural images is still a challenging problem, despite the progress made recently. Many existing approaches incorporate sophisticated network structures to handle various shapes, use extra annotations for stronger supervision, or employ hard-to-train recurrent neural networks for sequence modeling. In this work, we propose a simple yet strong approach for scene text recognition. With no need to convert input images to sequence representations, we directly connect two-dimensional CNN features to an attention-based sequence decoder which guided by holistic representation. The holistic representation can guide the attention-based decoder focus on more accurate area. As no recurrent module is adopted, our model can be trained in parallel. It achieves 1.5x to 9.4x acceleration to backward pass and 1.3x to 7.9x acceleration to forward pass, compared with the RNN counterparts. The proposed model is trained with only word-level annotations. With this simple design, our method achieves state-of-the-art or competitive recognition performance on the evaluated regular and irregular scene text benchmark datasets.
