We measure and predict states of Activation and Happiness using a body sensing application connected to smartwatches. Through the sensors of commercially available smartwatches we collect individual mood states and correlate them with body sensing data such as acceleration, heart rate, light level data, and location, through the GPS sensor built into the smartphone connected to the smartwatch. We polled users on the smartwatch for seven weeks four times per day asking for their mood state. We found that both Happiness and Activation are negatively correlated with heart beats and with the levels of light. People tend to be happier when they are moving more intensely and are feeling less activated during weekends. We also found that people with a lower Conscientiousness and Neuroticism and higher Agreeableness tend to be happy more frequently. In addition, more Activation can be predicted by lower Openness to experience and higher Agreeableness and Conscientiousness. Lastly, we find that tracking people's geographical coordinates might play an important role in predicting Happiness and Activation. The methodology we propose is a first step towards building an automated mood tracking system, to be used for better teamwork and in combination with social network analysis studies.

We introduce a system to measure individual happiness based on interpreting body sensors on smartwatches. In our prototype system we use a Pebble smartwatch to track activity, heartrate, light level, and GPS coordinates, and extend it with external information such as weather data, humidity, and day of the week. Training our machine learning-based mood prediction system using random forests with data manually entered into the smartwatch, we achieve prediction accuracy of up to 94%. We find that besides body signals, the weather data exerts a strong influence on mood. In addition our system also allows us to identify friends who are indicators of our positive or negative mood.

Recording an album brings singers, producers, musicians, audio engineers, and many other professions together. We know from the press that a few "super"-producers work with many artists. But how does the large-scale social structure of the music industry look like? What is the social network behind the finest albums of all time? In this paper we studied the large-scale structure of music collaborations using the tools of network science. We considered all albums in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of '500 Greatest Albums of All Time' and the '1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die' by Robert Dimery. We found that the existing research on collaboration networks is corroborated by the particular collaboration network in the music industry. Furthermore, it has been found that the most important professions of the music industry in terms of connectivity were main artists and engineers.
