We present an overview of the second edition of the ArAIEval shared task, organized as part of the ArabicNLP 2024 conference co-located with ACL 2024. In this edition, ArAIEval offers two tasks: (i) detection of propagandistic textual spans with persuasion techniques identification in tweets and news articles, and (ii) distinguishing between propagandistic and non-propagandistic memes. A total of 14 teams participated in the final evaluation phase, with 6 and 9 teams participating in Tasks 1 and 2, respectively. Finally, 11 teams submitted system description papers. Across both tasks, we observed that fine-tuning transformer models such as AraBERT was at the core of the majority of the participating systems. We provide a description of the task setup, including a description of the dataset construction and the evaluation setup. We further provide a brief overview of the participating systems. All datasets and evaluation scripts are released to the research community (https://araieval.gitlab.io/). We hope this will enable further research on these important tasks in Arabic.

Recent developments in multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have spurred significant interest in their potential applications across various medical imaging domains. On the one hand, there is a temptation to use these generative models to synthesize realistic-looking medical image data, while on the other hand, the ability to identify synthetic image data in a pool of data is also significantly important. In this study, we explore the potential of the Gemini (\textit{gemini-1.0-pro-vision-latest}) and GPT-4V (gpt-4-vision-preview) models for medical image analysis using two modalities of medical image data. Utilizing synthetic and real imaging data, both Gemini AI and GPT-4V are first used to classify real versus synthetic images, followed by an interpretation and analysis of the input images. Experimental results demonstrate that both Gemini and GPT-4 could perform some interpretation of the input images. In this specific experiment, Gemini was able to perform slightly better than the GPT-4V on the classification task. In contrast, responses associated with GPT-4V were mostly generic in nature. Our early investigation presented in this work provides insights into the potential of MLLMs to assist with the classification and interpretation of retinal fundoscopy and lung X-ray images. We also identify key limitations associated with the early investigation study on MLLMs for specialized tasks in medical image analysis.

$ $The synergy of language and vision models has given rise to Large Language and Vision Assistant models (LLVAs), designed to engage users in rich conversational experiences intertwined with image-based queries. These comprehensive multimodal models seamlessly integrate vision encoders with Large Language Models (LLMs), expanding their applications in general-purpose language and visual comprehension. The advent of Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) heralds a new era in Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistance, extending the horizons of AI utilization. This paper takes a unique perspective on LMMs, exploring their efficacy in performing image classification tasks using tailored prompts designed for specific datasets. We also investigate the LLVAs zero-shot learning capabilities. Our study includes a benchmarking analysis across four diverse datasets: MNIST, Cats Vs. Dogs, Hymnoptera (Ants Vs. Bees), and an unconventional dataset comprising Pox Vs. Non-Pox skin images. The results of our experiments demonstrate the model's remarkable performance, achieving classification accuracies of 85\%, 100\%, 77\%, and 79\% for the respective datasets without any fine-tuning. To bolster our analysis, we assess the model's performance post fine-tuning for specific tasks. In one instance, fine-tuning is conducted over a dataset comprising images of faces of children with and without autism. Prior to fine-tuning, the model demonstrated a test accuracy of 55\%, which significantly improved to 83\% post fine-tuning. These results, coupled with our prior findings, underscore the transformative potential of LLVAs and their versatile applications in real-world scenarios.

This study evaluates ChatGPT's performance in annotating vaccine-related Arabic tweets by comparing its annotations with human annotations. A dataset of 2,100 tweets representing various factors contributing to vaccine hesitancy was examined. Two domain experts annotated the data, with a third resolving conflicts. ChatGPT was then employed to annotate the same dataset using specific prompts for each factor. The ChatGPT annotations were evaluated through zero-shot, one-shot, and few-shot learning tests, with an average accuracy of 82.14%, 83.85%, and 85.57%, respectively. Precision averaged around 86%, minimizing false positives. The average recall and F1-score ranged from 0.74 to 0.80 and 0.65 to 0.93, respectively. AUC for zero-shot, one-shot, and few-shot learning was 0.79, 0.80, and 0.83. In cases of ambiguity, both human annotators and ChatGPT faced challenges. These findings suggest that ChatGPT holds promise as a tool for annotating vaccine-related tweets.

Nearest neighbor (NN) sampling provides more semantic variations than pre-defined transformations for self-supervised learning (SSL) based image recognition problems. However, its performance is restricted by the quality of the support set, which holds positive samples for the contrastive loss. In this work, we show that the quality of the support set plays a crucial role in any nearest neighbor based method for SSL. We then provide a refined baseline (pNNCLR) to the nearest neighbor based SSL approach (NNCLR). To this end, we introduce pseudo nearest neighbors (pNN) to control the quality of the support set, wherein, rather than sampling the nearest neighbors, we sample in the vicinity of hard nearest neighbors by varying the magnitude of the resultant vector and employing a stochastic sampling strategy to improve the performance. Additionally, to stabilize the effects of uncertainty in NN-based learning, we employ a smooth-weight-update approach for training the proposed network. Evaluation of the proposed method on multiple public image recognition and medical image recognition datasets shows that it performs up to 8 percent better than the baseline nearest neighbor method, and is comparable to other previously proposed SSL methods.

Throughput Prediction is one of the primary preconditions for the uninterrupted operation of several network-aware mobile applications, namely video streaming. Recent works have advocated using Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) for cellular network throughput prediction. In contrast, this work has proposed a low computationally complex simple solution which models the future throughput as a multiple linear regression of several present network parameters and present throughput. It then feeds the variance of prediction error and measurement error, which is inherent in any measurement setup but unaccounted for in existing works, to a Kalman filter-based prediction-correction approach to obtain the optimal estimates of the future throughput. Extensive experiments across seven publicly available 5G throughput datasets for different prediction window lengths have shown that the proposed method outperforms the baseline ML and DL algorithms by delivering more accurate results within a shorter timeframe for inferencing and retraining. Furthermore, in comparison to its ML and DL counterparts, the proposed throughput prediction method is also found to deliver higher QoE to both streaming and live video users when used in conjunction with popular Model Predictive Control (MPC) based adaptive bitrate streaming algorithms.

Formaldehyde (HCHO) is one one of the most important trace gas in the atmosphere, as it is a pollutant causing respiratory and other diseases. It is also a precursor of tropospheric ozone which damages crops and deteriorates human health. Study of HCHO chemistry and long-term monitoring using satellite data is important from the perspective of human health, food security and air pollution. Dynamic atmospheric chemistry models struggle to simulate atmospheric formaldehyde and often overestimate by up to two times relative to satellite observations and reanalysis. Spatial distribution of modelled HCHO also fail to match satellite observations. Here, we present deep learning approach using a simple super-resolution based convolutional neural network towards simulating fast and reliable atmospheric HCHO. Our approach is an indirect method of HCHO estimation without the need to chemical equations. We find that deep learning outperforms dynamical model simulations which involves complicated atmospheric chemistry representation. Causality establishing the nonlinear relationships of different variables to target formaldehyde is established in our approach by using a variety of precursors from meteorology and chemical reanalysis to target OMI AURA satellite based HCHO predictions. We choose South Asia for testing our implementation as it doesnt have in situ measurements of formaldehyde and there is a need for improved quality data over the region. Moreover, there are spatial and temporal data gaps in the satellite product which can be removed by trustworthy modelling of atmospheric formaldehyde. This study is a novel attempt using computer vision for trustworthy modelling of formaldehyde from remote sensing can lead to cascading societal benefits.

Background: Vaccination programs are effective only when a significant percentage of people are vaccinated. However, vaccine acceptance varies among communities around the world. Social media usage is arguably one of the factors affecting public attitudes towards vaccines. Objective: This study aims to identify if the social media usages factors can be used to predict attitudes and behavior towards the COVID-19 vaccines among the people in the Arab world. Methods: An online survey was conducted in the Arab countries and 217 Arab people participated in this study. Logistic regression was applied to identify what demographics and social media usage factors predict public attitudes and behavior towards the COVID-19 vaccines. Results: Of the 217 participants, 56.22% of them were willing to accept the vaccine and 41.47% of them were hesitant. This study shows that none of the social media usages factors were significant enough to predict the actual vaccine acceptance behavior. Whereas the analysis showed few of the social media usage factors can predict public attitudes towards the COVID-19 vaccines. For example, frequent social media users were 2.85 times more likely to agree that the risk of COVID-19 is being exaggerated (OR=2.85, 95% CI=0.86-9.45, p=0.046) than infrequent social media users. Whereas participants having more trust in vaccine information shared by their contacts are less likely to agree that decision-makers have verified that vaccines are safe (OR=0.528, 95% CI= 0.276-1.012, p=0.05). Conclusion: The use of social media and information shared on it may affect public attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccines. Therefore, disseminating correct and validated information about COVID-19 and other vaccines on social media is important for increasing public trust and countering the impact of incorrect and misinformation.

Nona-Bayer colour filter array (CFA) pattern is considered one of the most viable alternatives to traditional Bayer patterns. Despite the substantial advantages, such non-Bayer CFA patterns are susceptible to produce visual artefacts while reconstructing RGB images from noisy sensor data. This study addresses the challenges of learning RGB image reconstruction from noisy Nona-Bayer CFA comprehensively. We propose a novel spatial-asymmetric attention module to jointly learn bi-direction transformation and large-kernel global attention to reduce the visual artefacts. We combine our proposed module with adversarial learning to produce plausible images from Nona-Bayer CFA. The feasibility of the proposed method has been verified and compared with the state-of-the-art image reconstruction method. The experiments reveal that the proposed method can reconstruct RGB images from noisy Nona-Bayer CFA without producing any visually disturbing artefacts. Also, it can outperform the state-of-the-art image reconstruction method in both qualitative and quantitative comparison. Code available: https://github.com/sharif-apu/SAGAN_BMVC21.

Pixel binning is considered one of the most prominent solutions to tackle the hardware limitation of smartphone cameras. Despite numerous advantages, such an image sensor has to appropriate an artefact-prone non-Bayer colour filter array (CFA) to enable the binning capability. Contrarily, performing essential image signal processing (ISP) tasks like demosaicking and denoising, explicitly with such CFA patterns, makes the reconstruction process notably complicated. In this paper, we tackle the challenges of joint demosaicing and denoising (JDD) on such an image sensor by introducing a novel learning-based method. The proposed method leverages the depth and spatial attention in a deep network. The proposed network is guided by a multi-term objective function, including two novel perceptual losses to produce visually plausible images. On top of that, we stretch the proposed image processing pipeline to comprehensively reconstruct and enhance the images captured with a smartphone camera, which uses pixel binning techniques. The experimental results illustrate that the proposed method can outperform the existing methods by a noticeable margin in qualitative and quantitative comparisons. Map** a single exposure low dynamic range (LDR) image into a high dynamic range (HDR) is considered among the most strenuous image to image translation tasks due to exposure-related missing information. This study tackles the challenges of single-shot LDR to HDR map** by proposing a novel two-stage deep network. Notably, our proposed method aims to reconstruct an HDR image without knowing hardware information, including camera response function (CRF) and exposure settings. Therefore, we aim to perform image enhancement task like denoising, exposure correction, etc., in the first stage. Additionally, the second stage of our deep network learns tone map** and bit-expansion from a convex set of data samples. The qualitative and quantitative comparisons demonstrate that the proposed method can outperform the existing LDR to HDR works with a marginal difference. Apart from that, we collected an LDR image dataset incorporating different camera systems. The evaluation with our collected real-world LDR images illustrates that the proposed method can reconstruct plausible HDR images without presenting any visual artefacts. Methods: We performed the experiment on only Twitter data (tweets) regarding vaccine. The duration of data collection was between 17 January 2017 and 14 March 2018. We formulated cluster based on the information on its contents and sources it resides (i.e., website domains). We only focused the topics which were related to vaccine. To detect the structure and network of community, we applied Louvain community algorithm along with Random walks called Info map method over vaccines related tweeter user. We defined the communities based on various measures derived from the information shared by Twitter users. Representations and visualizations of the communities based on these derived measures help the public health organization to make understand the possible cause of the rejecting the safety and efficacy of vaccines. Results: To analyse people perception over social media, we downloaded 6,591,566 tweets. We distinguished 1,860,662 users who were posting related to vaccine. We applied Louvain community detection algorithm along with DMM values and we found 192 communities. It also produced higher alignment values as long as the number of topics were low. With the increase of topics number, the alignment becomes lower. The total tweets were divided into two parts based on their characterizes. The first category contained 163,148 (57.16%) tweets which were based as evidence and advocacy and the second category contained 6244 (2.19%) tweets which were based on the experiences and opinion. We observed 4548 users were posting about experiential tweets about vaccine and of them 3449 users (75.84%) were posted evidence and advocacy related.

The agriculture sector is essential for every country because it provides a basic income to a large number of people and food as well, which is a fundamental requirement to survive on this planet. We see as time passes, significant changes come in the present era, which begins with Green Revolution. Due to improper knowledge of plant diseases, farmers use fertilizers in excess, which ultimately degrade the quality of food. Earlier farmers use experts to determine the type of plant disease, which was expensive and time-consuming. In today time, Image processing is used to recognize and catalog plant diseases using the lesion region of plant leaf, and there are different modus-operandi for plant disease scent from leaf using Neural Networks (NN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and others. In this paper, we improving the architecture of the Neural Networking by working on ten different types of training algorithms and the proper choice of neurons in the concealed layer. The aim of develo** this project was to make sure and taking its users safety to a next level. Actually now a days some crime incidents like rapes, fire accidents and snatchings are very common and we believe many of those can be prevented if victim got support at the right time. According to the well known daily news paper of Bangladesh The Daily Star there were about 1413 women was rapped where 76 women were dead in 2019. On the same pa-per it also said that in 2018 and 2017 the number of rapes were 732 and 818 where we can easily get that the number increases to almost double in 2019. Where we get a point that if those girls get support or get people known about their location at the right time they might get rid of the situation and the number of rapes could be reduced a lot because we all know that now a days using mo-bile smartphone is too easy for people. Although leading Chinese mobile phone company Xiaomi introduced a new feature Emergency SOS service in their mobile phones at the end of 2018 with a MIUI 10 update but this feature is only limited to the Xiaomi phones and it was well advertised as well. This paper will briefly describe all the features of our software and its usages.

Security issues are playing dominant role in today's high speed communication systems. A fast and compact FPGA based implementation of the Data Encryption Standard (DES) and Triple DES algorithm is presented in this paper that is widely used in cryptography for securing the Internet traffic in modern day communication systems. The design of the digital cryptographic circuit was implemented in a Vertex 5 series (XCVLX5110T) target device with the use of VHDL as the hardware description language. In order to confirm the expected behavior of these algorithms, the proposed design was extensively simulated, synthesized for different FPGA devices both in Spartan and Virtex series from Xilinx viz. Spartan 3, Spartan 3AN, Virtex 5, Virtex E device families. The novelty and contribution of this work is in three folds: (i) Extensive simulation and synthesis of the proposed design targeted for various FPGA devices, (ii) Complete hardware implementation of encryption and decryption algorithms onto Virtex 5 series device (XCVLX5110T) based FPGA boards and, (iii) Generation of ICON and VIO core for the design and on chip verification and analyzing using Chipscope Pro. The experimental as well as implementation results compared to the implementations reported so far are quite encouraging.
