Abstract:
A locally recoverable code of locality $r$ over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ is a code where every coordinate of a codeword can be recovered using the values of at most $r$ other coordinates of that codeword. Locally recoverable codes are efficient at restoring corrupted messages and data which make them highly applicable to distributed storage systems. Quasi-cyclic codes of length $n=m\ell$ and index $\ell$…

Quasi-cyclic codes of length $n=m\ell$ and index $\ell$ are linear codes that are invariant under cyclic shifts by $\ell$ places. %Quasi-cyclic codes are generalizations of cyclic codes and are isomorphic to $\mathbb{F}_{q} [x]/ \langle x^m-1 \rangle$-submodules of $\mathbb{F}_{q^\ell} [x] / \langle x^m-1 \rangle$. In this paper, we decompose quasi-cyclic locally recoverable codes into a sum of constituent codes where each constituent code is a linear code over a field extension of $\mathbb{F}_q$. Using these constituent codes with set parameters, we propose conditions which ensure the existence of almost optimal and optimal quasi-cyclic locally recoverable codes with increased dimension and code length.

We propose an original approach to investigate the linearity of $\mathbb{Z}_{2^L}$-linear codes, i.e., codes obtained as the image of the generalized Gray map applied to $\mathbb{Z}_{2^L}$-additive codes. To accomplish that, we define two related binary codes: the associated and concatenated, where one could perform a straightforward analysis of the Schur product between their codewords and determine the linearity of the respective $\mathbb{Z}_{2^L}$-linear code. This work expands on previous contributions from the literature, where the linearity was established with respect to the kernel of a code and/or operations on $\mathbb{Z}_{2^L}$. The $\mathbb{Z}_{2^L}$-additive codes we apply the Gray map and check the linearity are the well-known Hadamard, simplex, and MacDonald codes. We also present families of Reed-Muller and cyclic codes that yield to linear $\mathbb{Z}_{2^L}$-linear codes and perform a computational verification of our proposed method applied to other $\mathbb{Z}_{2^L}$-additive codes.

In this paper we characterize the orbit codes as geometrically uniform codes. This characterization is based on the description of all isometries over a projective geometry. In addition, the Abelian orbit codes are defined and a new construction of Abelian non-cyclic orbit codes is presented. In order to analyze their structures, the concept of geometrically uniform partitions have to be reinterpreted. As a consequence, a substantial reduction in the number of computations needed to obtain the minimum subspace distance of these codes is achieved and established. An application of orbit codes to multishot subspace codes obtained according to a multi-level construction is provided.
