In this work, we provide a global framework analysis of a multi-hop relaying systems wherein the transmitter (TX) communicates with the receiver (RX) through a set of intermediary relays deployed either in series or in parallel. Regenerative based relaying scheme is assumed such as the repetition-coded decoded-and-forward (DF) wherein the decoding is threshold-based. To reflect a wide range of fading, we introduce the generalized $H$-function (also termed as Fox-$H$ function) distribution model which enables the modeling of radio-frequency (RF) fading like Weibull and Gamma, as well as the free-space optic (FSO) such as the Double Generalized Gamma and Málaga fading. In this context, we introduce various power and rate adaptation policies based on the channel state information (CSI) availability at TX and RX. Finally, we address the effects of relaying topology, number of relays and fading model, etc, on the performance reliability of each link adaptation policy.

Abstract:
In this letter, we consider single-cell, single-user systems wherein uplink and downlink user equipment communicate with a full-duplex relay. Due to the near-far problem, the self-interference (SI) can be 100-1000x the received signal power. In this context, we consider the adaptive Least Mean Squares (LMS) algorithm to estimate the SI channel and then subtract the SI from the desired received sig…

We measure the robustness of this technique in terms of bit error rate (BER) and spectral efficiency.

Millimeter wave (mmWave) is a practical solution to provide high data rate for the vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications. This enables the future autonomous vehicles to exchange big data with the base stations (BSs) such as the velocity and the location to improve the awareness of the advanced driving assistance system (ADAS). In this context, we consider a single-cell multiuser doubly-selective system wherein the BS simultaneously serves multiple vehicles. To accomplish this requirement, the BS is implemented in hybrid architecture to support multiple spatial streams while the vehicles have analog-only structures. In this work, we develop a low-complexity hybrid precoding algorithm wherein the design of the hybrid precoder at the BS and the analog combiner at the vehicles require small training and feedback overhead. We propose a two-stage hybrid precoding algorithm wherein the first stage designs the analog beamformers as in single user scenario while the second stage designs the multiuser digital precoder at the BS. In the second stage, we derive closed-form digital precoders such as Maximum Ratio Transmission (MRT), Zero-Forcing (ZF) and Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) as a first variant while we propose iterative digital precoder as a second variant. The design of the digital precoders for the two variants requires the limited feedback sent from the vehicles to BS. We refer to the random vector quantization (RVQ) and the beamsteering codebooks to quantize the feedbacks for variants I and II, respectively, since the perfect feedback requires long overhead and large training. We evaluate the rate loss incurred by the quantization of the digital and analog codebooks against the perfect channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT).

Unlike the vast majority of work, we introduce the impairments to the relays and the destination and we compare the performance against conventional RF relaying systems. This paper presents a novel Advanced Activity-Aware (AAA) scheme to optimize and improve Multi-Channel Operations based on the IEEE 1609.4 standard in wireless access vehicular environments (WAVE). The proposed scheme relies on the awareness of the vehicular safety load to dynamically find an optimal setup for switching between service channel intervals (SCHI) and control channel intervals (CCHI). SCHI are chosen for non-critical applications (e.g. infotainment), while CCHI are utilized for critical applications (e.g. safety-related). We maximize the channel utilization without sacrificing other application requirements such as latency and bandwidth. Our scheme is implemented and evaluated network simulator-3 (NS3). We guarantee the default Synchronization Interval (SI), like implemented by the standard in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs), when tested on real-time simulations of vehicular cloud (VC) load and VANET setups using NS3. We also evaluate a Markov Decision Process (MDP) based scheme and a fast greedy heuristic to optimize the problem of vehicular task placement with both IEEE 1609.4 and an opportunistic V2I version of the proposed AAA scheme. Our solution offers the reward of the VC by taking into account the overall utilization of the distributed virtualized VCs resources and vehicular bag-of-tasks (BOTs) placements both sequentially and in parallel. We present the simulation metrics proving that our proposed solution significantly improve the throughput and decreases the average delay of uploaded packets used for non-safety applications, while maintaining reliable communication (via CCHI) for safety-related applications similar to the IEEE 1609.4 standard.

In this work, we consider the performance analysis of the uplink cellular networks with free space optics (FSO) backhauling. The user equipment (UE) communicates with the nearest Base Station (BS) in first slot while in second slot, the BS converts the received radio frequency (RF) signal into FSO pulse and transmits to the data center. We adopt the Rayleigh fading for the uplink channels while the FSO backhaul encompasses the turbulence-induced fading which follows the Málaga distribution, the weather pathloss, and the pointing errors fading which is distributed following the generalized Beckmann model. Further, we will compare the performances when the BS behaves as either a decode-and-forward (DF) relay or an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS). Next, we will propose an optimal design of the phase shifters of the IRS to minimize the interference and improve the rate to beat relaying. Capitalizing on this framework, we will derive the system performance metrics such as the coverage probability as well as the spectral efficiency. Focusing on high SNR, we will obtain the diversity gain to get engineering insights into the system performance and limitations. Finally, the analytical results are confirmed by Monte Carlo simulations.

In this work, we present a framework analysis of millimeter waves (mmWaves) vehicular communications systems. Communications between vehicles take place through a cooperative relay which acts as an intermediary base station (BS). The relay is equipped with multiple transmit and receive antennas and it employs decode-and-forward (DF) to process the signal. Also, the relay applies maximal ratio combining (MRC), and maximal ratio transmission (MRT), respectively, to receive and forward the signal. As the vehicles' speeds are relatively high, the channel experiences a fast fading and this time variation is modeled following the Jakes' autocorrelation model. We also assume narrowband fading channel. Closed-form expressions of the reliability metrics such as the outage probability, the probability of error and the channel capacity are derived. Capitalizing on these performances, we derive the low and high power regimes for the capacity, and the high signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) asymptotes for the outage and error probability to get full insights into the system gains such as the diversity and coding gains.
