Supplier selection and order allocation (SSOA) are key strategic decisions in supply chain management which greatly impact the performance of the supply chain. Although, the SSOA problem has been studied extensively but less attention paid to scalability presents a significant gap preventing adoption of SSOA algorithms by industrial practitioners. This paper presents a novel multi-item, multi-supplier double order allocations with dual-sourcing and penalty constraints across two-tiers of a supply chain, resulting in cooperation and in facilitating supplier preferences to work with other suppliers through bidding. We propose Mixed-Integer Programming models for allocations at individual-tiers as well as an integrated allocations. An application to a real-time large-scale case study of a manufacturing company is presented, which is the largest scale studied in terms of supply chain size and number of variables so far in literature. The use case allows us to highlight how problem formulation and implementation can help reduce computational complexity using Mathematical Programming (MP) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) approaches. The results show an interesting observation that MP outperforms GA to solve SSOA. Sensitivity analysis is presented for sourcing strategy, penalty threshold and penalty factor. The developed model was successfully deployed in a large international sourcing conference with multiple bidding rounds, which helped in more than 10% procurement cost reductions to the manufacturing company.

While consolidation strategies form the backbone of many supply chain optimisation problems, exploitation of multi-tier material relationships through consolidation remains an understudied area, despite being a prominent feature of industries that produce complex made-to-order products. In this paper, we propose an optimisation framework for exploiting multi-to-multi relationship between tiers of a supply chain. The resulting formulation is flexible such that quantity discounts, inventory holding, and transport costs can be included. The framework introduces a new trade-off between tiers, leading to cost reductions in one tier but increased costs in the other, which helps to reduce the overall procurement cost in the supply chain. A mixed integer linear programming model is developed and tested with a range of small to large-scale test problems from aerospace manufacturing. Our comparison to benchmark results shows that there is indeed a cost trade-off between two tiers, and that its reduction can be achieved using a holistic approach to reconfiguration. Costs are decreased when second tier fixed ordering costs and the number of machining options increase. Consolidation results in reduced inventory holding costs in all scenarios. Several secondary effects such as simplified supplier selection may also be observed.

In this paper, we propose an automated computer platform for the purpose of classifying Electroencephalography (EEG) signals associated with left and right hand movements using a hybrid system that uses advanced feature extraction techniques and machine learning algorithms. It is known that EEG represents the brain activity by the electrical voltage fluctuations along the scalp, and Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) is a device that enables the use of the brain neural activity to communicate with others or to control machines, artificial limbs, or robots without direct physical movements. In our research work, we aspired to find the best feature extraction method that enables the differentiation between left and right executed fist movements through various classification algorithms. The EEG dataset used in this research was created and contributed to PhysioNet by the developers of the BCI2000 instrumentation system. Data was preprocessed using the EEGLAB MATLAB toolbox and artifacts removal was done using AAR. Data was epoched on the basis of Event-Related (De) Synchronization (ERD/ERS) and movement-related cortical potentials (MRCP) features. Mu/beta rhythms were isolated for the ERD/ERS analysis and delta rhythms were isolated for the MRCP analysis. The Independent Component Analysis (ICA) spatial filter was applied on related channels for noise reduction and isolation of both artifactually and neutrally generated EEG sources. The final feature vector included the ERD, ERS, and MRCP features in addition to the mean, power and energy of the activations of the resulting independent components of the epoched feature datasets. The datasets were inputted into two machine-learning algorithms: Neural Networks (NNs) and Support Vector Machines (SVMs). Intensive experiments were carried out and optimum classification performances of 89.8 and 97.1 were obtained using NN and SVM, respectively.

System reuse and cost are very important in software product line design area. Developers goal is to increase system reuse and decreasing cost and efforts for building components from scratch for each software configuration. This can be reached by develo** Software Product Line (SPL). To handle SPL engineering process, several approaches with several techniques were developed. One of these approaches is called separated approach. It requires separating the commonalities and variability for system components to allow configuration selection based on user defined features. Textual notation-based approaches have been used for their formal syntax and semantics to represent system features and implementations. But these approaches are still weak in mixing features (conceptual level) and classes (physical level) that guarantee smooth and automatic configuration generation for software releases. The absence of methodology supporting the mixing process is a real weakness. In this paper, we enhanced SPL reuse by introducing some meta-features, classified according to their functions. As a first consequence, mixing class and feature concepts is supported in a simple way using class interfaces and inherent features for smooth move from feature model to class model. And as a second consequence, the mixing process is supported by a textual design and implementation methodology, mixing class and feature models by combining their concepts in a single language. The supported configuration generation process is simple, coherent, and complete.

We analyze the database research publications of four major core database technology conferences (SIGMOD, VLDB, ICDE, EDBT), two main theoretical database conferences (PODS, ICDT) and three database journals (TODS, VLDB Journal, TKDE) over a period of 10 years (2001 - 2010). Our analysis considers only regular papers as we do not include short papers, demo papers, posters, tutorials or panels into our statistics. We rank the research scholars according to their number of publication in each conference/journal separately and in combined. We also report about the growth in the number of research publications and the size of the research community in the last decade.
