In this paper, we present Knowledge4COVID-19, a framework that aims to showcase the power of integrating disparate sources of knowledge to discover adverse drug effects caused by drug-drug interactions among COVID-19 treatments and pre-existing condition drugs. Initially, we focus on constructing the Knowledge4COVID-19 knowledge graph (KG) from the declarative definition of map** rules using the RDF Map** Language. Since valuable information about drug treatments, drug-drug interactions, and side effects is present in textual descriptions in scientific databases (e.g., DrugBank) or in scientific literature (e.g., the CORD-19, the Covid-19 Open Research Dataset), the Knowledge4COVID-19 framework implements Natural Language Processing. The Knowledge4COVID-19 framework extracts relevant entities and predicates that enable the fine-grained description of COVID-19 treatments and the potential adverse events that may occur when these treatments are combined with treatments of common comorbidities, e.g., hypertension, diabetes, or asthma. Moreover, on top of the KG, several techniques for the discovery and prediction of interactions and potential adverse effects of drugs have been developed with the aim of suggesting more accurate treatments for treating the virus. We provide services to traverse the KG and visualize the effects that a group of drugs may have on a treatment outcome. Knowledge4COVID-19 was part of the Pan-European hackathon#EUvsVirus in April 2020 and is publicly available as a resource through a GitHub repository (https://github.com/SDM-TIB/Knowledge4COVID-19) and a DOI (https://zenodo.org/record/4701817#.YH336-8zbol).

Nowadays Knowledge Graphs constitute a mainstream approach for the representation of relational information on big heterogeneous data, however, they may contain a big amount of imputed noise when constructed automatically. To address this problem, different error detection methodologies have been proposed, mainly focusing on path ranking and representation learning. This work presents various mainstream approaches and proposes a hybrid and modular methodology for the task. We compare different methods on two benchmarks and one real-world biomedical publications dataset, showcasing the potential of our approach and providing insights on graph embeddings when dealing with noisy Knowledge Graphs.

With the emergence of Smart TV and related interconnected devices, second screen solutions have rapidly appeared to provide more content for end-users and enrich their TV experience. Given the various data and sources involved - videos, actors, social media and online databases- the aforementioned market poses great challenges concerning user context management and sophisticated recommendations that can be addressed to the end-users. This paper presents an innovative Context Management model and a related first and second screen recommendation service, based on a user-item graph analysis as well as collaborative filtering techniques in the context of a Dynamic Social & Media Content Syndication (SAM) platform. The model evaluation provided is based on datasets collected online, presenting a comparative analysis concerning efficiency and effectiveness of the current approach, and illustrating its added value.

In the context of Social TV, the increasing popularity of first and second screen users, interacting and posting content online, illustrates new business opportunities and related technical challenges, in order to enrich user experience on such environments. SAM (Socializing Around Media) project uses Social Media-connected infrastructure to deal with the aforementioned challenges, providing intelligent user context management models and mechanisms capturing social patterns, to apply collaborative filtering techniques and personalized recommendations towards this direction. This paper presents the Context Management mechanism of SAM, running in a Social TV environment to provide smart recommendations for first and second screen content. Work presented is evaluated using real movie rating dataset found online, to validate the SAM's approach in terms of effectiveness as well as efficiency.

In this paper we present a SOA (Service Oriented Architecture)-based platform, enabling the retrieval and analysis of big datasets stemming from social networking (SN) sites and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, collected by smart city applications and socially-aware data aggregation services. A large set of city applications in the areas of Participating Urbanism, Augmented Reality and Sound-Map** throughout participating cities is being applied, resulting into produced sets of millions of user-generated events and online SN reports fed into the RADICAL platform. Moreover, we study the application of data analytics such as sentiment analysis to the combined IoT and SN data saved into an SQL database, further investigating algorithmic and configurations to minimize delays in dataset processing and results retrieval.
