Multi-access-Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) is a promising solution for computationally demanding rigorous applications, that can meet 6G network service requirements. However, edge servers incur high computation costs during task processing. In this paper, we proposed a technique to minimize the total computation and communication overhead for optimal resource utilization with joint computational offloading that enables a green environment. Our optimization problem is NP-hard; thus, we proposed a decentralized Reinforcement Learning (dRL) approach where we eliminate the problem of dimensionality and over-estimation of the value functions. Compared to baseline schemes our technique achieves a 37.03% reduction in total system costs.

Spin Transfer Torque Random Access Memory (STT-RAM) is an emerging Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) technology that has garnered attention to overcome the drawbacks of conventional CMOS-based technologies. However, such technologies must be evaluated before deployment under real workloads and architecture. But there is a lack of available open-source STT-RAM-based system evaluation framework, which hampers research and experimentation and impacts the adoption of STT- RAM in a system. This paper proposes a novel, extendable STT-RAM memory controller design integrated inside the gem5 simulator. Our framework enables understanding various aspects of STT-RAM, i.e., power, delay, clock cycles, energy, and system throughput. We will open-source our HOPE framework, which will fuel research and aid in accelerating the development of future system architectures based on STT-RAM. It will also facilitate the user for further tool enhancement.

The Internet-of-Things (IoT) is an imminent and corporal technology that enables the connectivity of smart physical devices with virtual objects contriving in distinct platforms with the help of the internet. The IoT is under massive experimentation to operate in a distributed manner, making it favourable to be utilized in the healthcare ecosystem. However, un- der the IoT healthcare ecosystem (IoT-HS), the nodes of the IoT networks are unveiled to an aberrant level of security threats. Regulating an adequate volume of sensitive and personal data, IoT-HS undergoes various security challenges for which a distributed mechanism to address such concerns plays a vital role. Although Blockchain, having a distributed ledger, is integral to solving security concerns in IoT-HSs, it undergoes major problems, including massive storage and computational requirements. Also, Holochain, which has low computational and memory requirements, lacks authentication distribution availability. Therefore, this paper proposes a hybrid Holochain and Blockchain-based privacy perseverance and security framework for IoT-HSs that combines the benefits Holochain and Blockchain provide, overcoming the computational, memory, and authentication challenges. This framework is more suited for IoT scenarios where resource needs to be optimally utilized. Comprehensive security and performance analysis is conducted to demonstrate the suitability and effectiveness of the proposed hybrid security approach for IoT-HSs in contrast to the Blockchain-only or Holochain-only based approaches.

In modern capital market the price of a stock is often considered to be highly volatile and unpredictable because of various social, financial, political and other dynamic factors. With calculated and thoughtful investment, stock market can ensure a handsome profit with minimal capital investment, while incorrect prediction can easily bring catastrophic financial loss to the investors. This paper introduces the application of a recently introduced machine learning model - the Transformer model, to predict the future price of stocks of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the leading stock exchange in Bangladesh. The transformer model has been widely leveraged for natural language processing and computer vision tasks, but, to the best of our knowledge, has never been used for stock price prediction task at DSE. Recently the introduction of time2vec encoding to represent the time series features has made it possible to employ the transformer model for the stock price prediction. This paper concentrates on the application of transformer-based model to predict the price movement of eight specific stocks listed in DSE based on their historical daily and weekly data. Our experiments demonstrate promising results and acceptable root mean squared error on most of the stocks.

Advanced in-cabin sensing technologies, especially vision based approaches, have tremendously progressed user interaction inside the vehicle, paving the way for new applications of natural user interaction. Just as humans use multiple modes to communicate with each other, we follow an approach which is characterized by simultaneously using multiple modalities to achieve natural human-machine interaction for a specific task: pointing to or glancing towards objects inside as well as outside the vehicle for deictic references. By tracking the movements of eye-gaze, head and finger, we design a multimodal fusion architecture using a deep neural network to precisely identify the driver's referencing intent. Additionally, we use a speech command as a trigger to separate each referencing event. We observe differences in driver behavior in the two pointing use cases (i.e. for inside and outside objects), especially when analyzing the preciseness of the three modalities eye, head, and finger. We conclude that there is no single modality that is solely optimal for all cases as each modality reveals certain limitations. Fusion of multiple modalities exploits the relevant characteristics of each modality, hence overcoming the case dependent limitations of each individual modality. Ultimately, we propose a method to identity whether the driver's referenced object lies inside or outside the vehicle, based on the predicted pointing direction.

In this paper, a novel multi-head multi-layer perceptron (MLP) structure is presented for implicit neural representation (INR). Since conventional rectified linear unit (ReLU) networks are shown to exhibit spectral bias towards learning low-frequency features of the signal, we aim at mitigating this defect by taking advantage of the local structure of the signals. To be more specific, an MLP is used to capture the global features of the underlying generator function of the desired signal. Then, several heads are utilized to reconstruct disjoint local features of the signal, and to reduce the computational complexity, sparse layers are deployed for attaching heads to the body. Through various experiments, we show that the proposed model does not suffer from the special bias of conventional ReLU networks and has superior generalization capabilities. Finally, simulation results confirm that the proposed multi-head structure outperforms existing INR methods with considerably less computational cost.

There is a growing interest in more intelligent natural user interaction with the car. Hand gestures and speech are already being applied for driver-car interaction. Moreover, multimodal approaches are also showing promise in the automotive industry. In this paper, we utilize deep learning for a multimodal fusion network for referencing objects outside the vehicle. We use features from gaze, head pose and finger pointing simultaneously to precisely predict the referenced objects in different car poses. We demonstrate the practical limitations of each modality when used for a natural form of referencing, specifically inside the car. As evident from our results, we overcome the modality specific limitations, to a large extent, by the addition of other modalities. This work highlights the importance of multimodal sensing, especially when moving towards natural user interaction. Furthermore, our user based analysis shows noteworthy differences in recognition of user behavior depending upon the vehicle pose.

Fine-grained location prediction on smart phones can be used to improve app/system performance. Application scenarios include video quality adaptation as a function of the 5G network quality at predicted user locations, and augmented reality apps that speed up content rendering based on predicted user locations. Such use cases require prediction error in the same range as the GPS error, and no existing works on location prediction can achieve this level of accuracy. We present a system for fine-grained location prediction (FGLP) of mobile users, based on GPS traces collected on the phones. FGLP has two components: a federated learning framework and a prediction model. The framework runs on the phones of the users and also on a server that coordinates learning from all users in the system. FGLP represents the user location data as relative points in an abstract 2D space, which enables learning across different physical spaces. The model merges Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), where BiLSTM learns the speed and direction of the mobile users, and CNN learns information such as user movement preferences. FGLP uses federated learning to protect user privacy and reduce bandwidth consumption. Our experimental results, using a dataset with over 600,000 users, demonstrate that FGLP outperforms baseline models in terms of prediction accuracy. We also demonstrate that FGLP works well in conjunction with transfer learning, which enables model reusability. Finally, benchmark results on several types of Android phones demonstrate FGLP's feasibility in real life.

Sophisticated user interaction in the automotive industry is a fast emerging topic. Mid-air gestures and speech already have numerous applications for driver-car interaction. Additionally, multimodal approaches are being developed to leverage the use of multiple sensors for added advantages. In this paper, we propose a fast and practical multimodal fusion method based on machine learning for the selection of various control modules in an automotive vehicle. The modalities taken into account are gaze, head pose and finger pointing gesture. Speech is used only as a trigger for fusion. Single modality has previously been used numerous times for recognition of the user's pointing direction. We, however, demonstrate how multiple inputs can be fused together to enhance the recognition performance. Furthermore, we compare different deep neural network architectures against conventional Machine Learning methods, namely Support Vector Regression and Random Forests, and show the enhancements in the pointing direction accuracy using deep learning. The results suggest a great potential for the use of multimodal inputs that can be applied to more use cases in the vehicle.

Recent works have shown that combining object detection and tracking tasks, in the case of video data, results in higher performance for both tasks, but they require a high frame-rate as a strict requirement for performance. This is assumption is often violated in real-world applications, when models run on embedded devices, often at only a few frames per second.
Videos at low frame-rate suffer from large object displacements. Here re-identification features may support to match large-displaced object detections, but current joint detection and re-identification formulations degrade the detector performance, as these two are contrasting tasks. In the real-world application having separate detector and re-id models is often not feasible, as both the memory and runtime effectively double.
Towards robust long-term tracking applicable to reduced-computational-power devices, we propose the first joint optimization of detection, tracking and re-identification features for videos. Notably, our joint optimization maintains the detector performance, a typical multi-task challenge. At inference time, we leverage detections for tracking (tracking-by-detection) when the objects are visible, detectable and slowly moving in the image. We leverage instead re-identification features to match objects which disappeared (e.g. due to occlusion) for several frames or were not tracked due to fast motion (or low-frame-rate videos). Our proposed method reaches the state-of-the-art on MOT, it ranks 1st in the UA-DETRAC'18 tracking challenge among online trackers, and 3rd overall.

This paper presents advancement towards making an efficient and viable wheel chair control system based on brain computer interface via electro-oculogram (EOG) signals. The system utilizes the movement of eye as the element of purpose for controlling the movement of the wheel chair. Skin-surface electrodes are placed over skin for the purpose of acquiring the electro-oculogram signal and with the help of differential amplifier the bio-potential is measured between the reference and the point of interest, afterwards these obtained low voltage pulses are amplified, then passed through a sallen-key filter for noise removal and smoothening. These pulses are then collected on to the micro-controller; based on these pulses motor is switched to move in either right or left direction. A prototype system was developed and tested. The system showed promising results. The test conducted showed 99.5% efficiency of movement in correct direction.

Applying Machine Learning (ML) to business applications for automation usually faces difficulties when integrating diverse ML dependencies and services, mainly because of the lack of a common ML framework. In most cases, the ML models are developed for applications which are targeted for specific business domain use cases, leading to duplicated effort, and making reuse impossible. This paper presents Acumos, an open platform capable of packaging ML models into portable containerized microservices which can be easily shared via the platform's catalog, and can be integrated into various business applications. We present a case study of packaging sentiment analysis and classification ML models via the Acumos platform, permitting easy sharing with others. We demonstrate that the Acumos platform reduces the technical burden on application developers when applying machine learning models to their business applications. Furthermore, the platform allows the reuse of readily available ML microservices in various business domains.
