The in-plane superexchange interaction $J$ of cuprate superconductors has long been suggested to be an important parameter for exploring their high-temperature superconductivity. The bilayer Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ is the most studied system with high-quality single crystals in the wide do** range with the the same structure and phase. So far, the lattice parameter dependence of $J$ in its antiferromagnetic parent compound Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8}$ has not been established. By combining Raman scattering and x-ray diffraction techniques on the same sample in the same pressure environment, we obtain the evolution of both the two-magnon spectrum and the structural parameters with pressure up to nearly 30 GPa, The relationship between pressure or the in-plane lattice parameter and $J$ is thus established for Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8}$. Over the studied pressure range, superconductivity does not appear in this parent compound based on a sensitive magnetic measurement technique. The effects of pressure and chemical do** on the superexchange interaction and structure and their implications for superconductivity are discussed from the comparison of the obtained experimental data with the existing experiments. The results and findings provide valuable information for the understanding of superconductivity and the future theory developments for superconductivity in cuprates.

The discovery of high thermoelectric performance in n-type polycrystalline Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 based Zintl compounds has ignited intensive research interest. However, some fundamental questions concerning the anisotropic transport properties and the origin of intrinsically low thermal conductivity are still elusive, requiring the investigation of single crystals. In this work, high-quality p-type Mg3Sb2 and Mg3Bi2 single crystals have been grown by using a self-flux method. The electrical resistivity \r{ho} of Mg3Bi2 single crystal displays an anisotropy with \r{ho} in-plane twice larger than out-of-plane. The low-temperature heat capacity and lattice thermal conductivity of Mg3Sb2 and Mg3Bi2 single crystals have been investigated by using the Debye-Callaway model, from which the existence of low-lying vibration mode could be concluded. Large Grüneisen parameters and strong anharmonicity are found responsible for the intrinsically low thermal conductivity. Moreover, grain boundary scattering does not contribute significantly to suppress the lattice thermal conductivity of polycrystalline Mg3Sb2. Our results provide insights into the intrinsic transport properties of Mg3X2 and could pave a way to realize enhanced thermoelectric performance in single-crystalline Mg3X2-based Zintl compounds.

We study a system of semilinear hyperbolic equations passively advected by smooth white noise in time random velocity fields. Such a system arises in modeling non-premixed isothermal turbulent flames under single-step kinetics of fuel and oxidizer. We derive closed equations for one-point and multi-point probability distribution functions (PDFs) and closed form analytical formulas for the one point PDF function, as well as the two-point PDF function under homogeneity and isotropy. Exact solution formulas allows us to analyze the ensemble averaged fuel/oxidizer concentrations and the motion of their level curves. We recover the empirical formulas of combustion in the thin reaction zone limit and show that these approximate formulas can either underestimate or overestimate average concentrations when reaction zone is not tending to zero. We show that the averaged reaction rate slows down locally in space due to random advection induced diffusion; and that the level curves of ensemble averaged concentration undergo diffusion about mean locations.

We study the two-point correlation function of a freely decaying scalar in Kraichnan's model of advection by a Gaussian random velocity field, stationary and white-noise in time but fractional Brownian in space with roughness exponent $0<ζ<2$, appropriate to the inertial-convective range of the scalar. We find all self-similar solutions, by transforming the scaling equation to Kummer's equation. It is shown that only those scaling solutions with scalar energy decay exponent $a\leq (d/γ)+1$ are statistically realizable, where $d$ is space dimension and $γ=2-ζ$. An infinite sequence of invariants $J_\ell, \ell=0,1,2,...$ is pointed out, where $J_0$ is Corrsin's integral invariant but the higher invariants appear to be new. We show that at least one of the first two invariants, $J_0$ or $J_1$, must be nonzero for realizable initial data. We classify initial data in long-time domains of attraction of the self-similar solutions, based upon these new invariants. Our results support a picture of ``two-scale'' decay with breakdown of self-similarity for a range of exponents $(d+γ)/γ< a < (d+2)/γ,$ analogous to what has recently been found in decay of Burgers turbulence.
