Nonclassical mechanical states in cavity optomechanics in the single-photon strong-coupling regime
Abstract: Generating nonclassical states of mechanical systems is a challenge relevant for testing the foundations of quantum mechanics and develo** quantum technologies. Significant effort has been made to search for such states in the stationary behaviour of cavity optomechanical systems. We focus instead on the transient dynamics. We find that in the strong coupling regime the presence of an optical dr… ▽ More

Signature of resonant modes in radiative heat current noise spectrum
Abstract: Radiative heat transfer between bodies is often dominated by a narrow resonance in the transmission, e.~g. due to a cavity mode or a surface excitation. However, this resonant character is not visible in the average heat current. Here, we show that the noise spectrum of heat current can serve as a direct probe of the heat-carrying excitations. Namely, the resonant mode produces a sharp peak in the… ▽ More

Near field versus far field in radiative heat transfer between two-dimensional metals
Abstract: Using the standard fluctuational electrodynamics framework, we analytically calculate the radiative heat current between two thin metallic layers, separated by a vacuum gap. We analyse different contributions to the heat current (travelling or evanescent waves, transverse electric or magnetic polarization) and reveal the crucial qualitative role played by the dc conductivity of the metals as compa… ▽ More

Role of disorder in plasmon-assisted near-field heat transfer between two-dimensional metals
Abstract: We perform a theoretical study of the near-field heat transfer between two atomically thin metallic layers, isolated galvanically but coupled by the Coulomb interaction, within the framework of fluctuational electrodynamics in the Coulomb limit. We clarify the role of disorder and spatial dispersion, and identify several distinct regimes of the heat transfer. We find that the plasmon contribution… ▽ More
