    Interaction-enhanced nesting in Spin-Fermion and Fermi-Hubbard models

    Authors: R. Rossi, F. Simkovic IV, M. Ferrero, A. Georges, A. M. Tsvelik, N. V. Prokof'ev, I. S. Tupitsyn

Abstract: The spin-fermion (SF) model postulates that the dominant coupling between low-energy fermions in near critical metals is mediated by collective spin fluctuations (paramagnons) peaked at the Néel wave vector, ${\bf Q}_N$, connecting hot spots on opposite sides of the Fermi surface. It has been argued that strong correlations at hot spots lead to a Fermi surface deformation (FSD) featuring flat regi… ▽ More

A mesoscopic device for a realization of the Topological Kondo effect

Authors: Saheli Sarkar, Alexei M. Tsvelik

Quantum critical Kondo impurities present one possible platform for realization of anyons. Authors: Tianhao Ren, Elio J. König, Alexei M. Tsvelik

Abstract: We describe the chiral Kondo chain model based on the symplectic Kondo effect and demonstrate that it has a quantum critical ground state populated by non-Abelian anyons. We show that the fusion channel of two arbitrary anyons can be detected by locally coupling the two anyons to an extra single channel of chiral current and measuring the corresponding conductance at finite frequency. A Tractable Model of Pair Density Wave

    Authors: A. M. Tsvelik

Abstract: The paper describes a simple mechanism for superconducting pairing with finite wave vector (Pair Density Wave) which is illustrated with a quasi one-dimensional model. Within this model pair and charge density wave order parameters are intertwined emerging as components of the same matrix field and are related by particle-hole symmetry. Experimental applications are discussed.

Charge-density wave fluctuation driven composite order in the layered Kagome Metals

Authors: Alexei M. Tsvelik, Saheli Sarkar

Abstract: The newly discovered kagome metals AV$_3$Sb$_5$ (A = K, Rb, Cs) offer an exciting route to study exotic phases arising due to interplay between electronic correlations and topology. Besides superconductivity, these materials exhibit a charge-density wave (CDW) phase occurring at around 100 K, whose origin still remains elusive. Authors: H. Hu, G. Rai, L. Crippa, J. Herzog-Arbeitman, D. Călugăru, T. Wehling, G. Sangiovanni, R. Valenti, A. M. Tsvelik, B. A. Bernevig

Abstract: We use the topological heavy fermion (THF) model and its Kondo Lattice (KL) formulation to study the symmetric Kondo state in twisted bilayer graphene. Via a large-N approximation, we find a symmetric Kondo (SK) state in KL mode at fillings $ν=0,\pm 1,\pm 2$. Abstract: We review the solution of QCD in two spacetime dimensions. Following the analysis of Baluni, for a single flavor the model can be analyzed using Abelian bosonization. The theory can be analyzed in strong coupling, when the quarks are much lighter than the gauge coupling. In this limit, the theory is given by a Luttinger liquid.

Abstract: We develop a formalism to study the Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (RIXS) response in metals based on the diagrammatic expansion for its cross section. The standard approach to the solution of the RIXS problem relies on two key approximations: short-range potentials and non-interacting conduction electrons. However, these approximations are inaccurate for charged particles in metals, where th… ▽ More

Generalised route to effective field theories for quantum systems with local constraints

Authors: Attila Szabó, Garry Goldstein, Claudio Castelnovo, Alexei M. Tsvelik

Abstract: Some of the exciting phenomena uncovered in strongly correlated systems in recent years - for instance quantum topological order, deconfined quantum criticality, and emergent gauge symmetries -- appear in systems in which the Hilbert space is effectively projected at low energies in a way that imposes local constraints on the original degrees of freedom. Superconductor-Metal Transition in Odd-Frequency Paired Superconductor in Magnetic Field

    Authors: A. M. Tsvelik

Abstract: It is shown that the application of sufficiently strong magnetic field to the odd-frequency paired Pair Density Wave state described in Phys. Rev. B 94, 165114 (2016) leads to formation of a low temperature metallic state with zero Hall response. Applications of these ideas to the recent experiments on stripe-ordered La_{1.875}Ba_{0.125}CuO_4 are discussed.

Abstract: Low dimensional quantum magnets are interesting because of the emerging collective behavior arising from strong quantum fluctuations. The one-dimensional (1D) S = 1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet is a paradigmatic example, whose low-energy excitations, known as spinons, carry fractional spin S = 1/2. These fractional modes can be reconfined by the application of a staggered magnetic field. Even thou… ▽ More

Transport in Magnetically Doped One-Dimensional Wires: Can the Helical Protection Emerge without the Global Helicity?

Ladder-like optical conductivity in the spin-fermion model

Authors: Laura Classen, Neil J. Robinson, Alexei M. Tsvelik

Abstract: In the nested limit of the spin-fermion model for the cuprates, one-dimensional physics in the form of half-filled two-leg ladders emerges. We show that the renormalization group flow of the corresponding ladder is towards the d-Mott phase, a gapped spin-liquid with short-ranged d-wave pairing correlations, and reveals an intermediate SO(5)$\times$SO(3) symmetry.
