We investigated the magnetic field dependence of the critical current density (Jc) in Ba0.6K0.4Fe2As2 with various configurations of columnar defects (CDs) introduced by 2.6 GeV U or 320 MeV Au irradiations. Splayed CDs are introduced by crossing CDs at a specific angle with respect to the c-axis, while tilted CDs are introduced by irradiating the sample from the direction tilted from the !-axis. We also prepared samples with asymmetric splayed CDs, which bridge the splayed CDs and the tilted CDs, by starting from the tilted CDs and adding CDs along the symmetric direction with respect to the !-axis. In all cases, non-monotonic magnetic field dependence of Jc, which we call anomalous peak effect, is observed at some fraction of the matching field when the magnetic field is applied along the specific direction depending on the configuration of CDs. We propose a model that explains the behavior of the anomalous peak effect in samples with different configuration of CDs.

Various peak effects in 2H-NbSe2 single crystals induced by particle irradiations were studied. 3 MeV proton irradiation magnified the peak effect induced by order-disorder transition of vortices, where the peak field shifts from high fields to low fields with increasing irradiation dose. For the peak effect in NbSe2 with splayed columnar defects (CDs), as the splayed angle increases, peak field gradually shifts from high fields to low fields. Numerical calculations have been conducted to investigate the mechanism of the peak effect. The calculated results exhibit excellent agreement with experimental observations. Analyses of field dependence of Jc reveal the formation of non-uniform Jc flow with increasing splayed angle, which plays a crucial role in inducing the self-field peak effect in superconductors with splayed CDs. In samples with symmetric splayed CDs with respect to the c-axis generated by 800 MeV Xe and 320 MeV Au ions, coexistence of order-disorder transition-induced peak effect and self-field peak effect was observed. In the case of 320 MeV Au irradiated samples, when the splay angle is small, the two peak effects transform into a broad peak, which has similarity to the anomalous peak effect observed in iron-based superconductors. Interestingly, the broad anomalous peak effect is strongly suppressed when the external magnetic field is applied parallel to one of splayed CDs.

Both Tc and TCDW are found to decrease monotonically with the increase in irradiation dose. This behavior is different from electron-irradiated NbSe2, where TCDW is suppressed monotonically with the increase in dose, while Tc shows an initial enhancement before it starts to decrease. We attempt to explain this difference based on the negative pressure effect which has been reported in our previous study on NbSe2 irradiated by heavy ions.

By separating the effect of heavy-ion irradiation on Tc suppression through lattice expansion and disorder, it is found that Tc is suppressed more by lattice expansion rather than by disorder.

We report on the investigation of the magnetic superconductor EuFe$_{2}$(As$_{0.7}$P$_{0.3}$)$_{2}$ based on muon-spin spectroscopy and ac magnetic susceptibility ($χ$) measurements. The dependence of the internal field at the muon site on temperature is indicative of a ferromagnetic ordering of Eu$^{2+}$ magnetic moments and only the conventional magnon scattering governs the longitudinal relaxation rate at low temperatures. At the same time, we observe a rich phenomenology for the imaginary component of the susceptibility $χ^{\prime\prime}$ by means of both standard ac susceptibility and a novel technique based on a microwave coplanar waveguide resonator. In particular, we detect activated trends for several features in $χ^{\prime\prime}$ over frequencies spanning ten orders of magnitude. We interpret our results in terms of the complex dynamics of vortices and antivortices influenced by the underlying structure of magnetic domains.

Furthermore, the largest transport critical current density (Jc) and Ic in (Ba,Na)Fe2As2 wires picked up from the coil reach 54 kAcm-2 and 51.8 A at T = 4.2 K under a magnetic field of 100 kOe, respectively. This value exceeds transport Jc of all previous iron-based superconducting round wires. Texturing of grains in the core of the wire due to the improvement of the wire drawing process plays a key role for the enhancement of Jc.

Static (DC) and dynamic (AC, at 14 MHz and 8 GHz) magnetic susceptibilities of single crystals of a ferromagnetic superconductor, $\textrm{EuFe}_{2}(\textrm{As}_{1-x}\textrm{P}_{x})_{2}$ (x = 0.23), were measured in pristine state and after different doses of 2.5 MeV electron or 3.5 MeV proton irradiation. The superconducting transition temperature, $T_{c}(H)$, shows an extraordinarily large decrease. It starts at $T_{c}(H=0)\approx24\:\textrm{K}$ in the pristine sample for both AC and DC measurements, but moves to almost half of that value after moderate irradiation dose. Our results suggest that in $\textrm{EuFe}_{2}(\textrm{As}_{1-x}\textrm{P}_{x})_{2}$ superconductivity is affected by local-moment ferromagnetism mostly via the spontaneous internal magnetic fields induced by the FM subsystem. Another mechanism is revealed upon irradiation where magnetic defects created in ordered $\text{Eu}^{2+}$ lattice act as efficient pairbreakers leading to a significant $T_{c}$ reduction upon irradiation compared to other 122 compounds. On the other hand, the exchange interactions seem to be weakly screened by the superconducting phase leading to a modest increase of $T_{m}$ (less than 1 K) after the irradiation drives $T_{c}$ to below $T_{m}$. The results suggest that FM and SC phases coexist microscopically in the same volume.

We report a systematic study of the superconducting (SC) and normal-state anisotropy of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{0.6}$Se$_{0.4}$ single crystals with controlled amounts of excess Fe ($y$ = 0, 0.07, and 0.14). The SC state anisotropy $γ_{H}$ was obtained by measuring the upper critical fields under high magnetic fields over 50 T for both $H\parallel ab$ and $H\parallel c$. On the other hand, the normal state anisotropy $γ_ρ$ was obtained by measuring the resistivity with current flowing in the $ab$ plane ($ρ_{ab}$) and along the $c$ axis ($ρ_c$). To precisely measure $ρ_{ab}$ and $ρ_c$ in the same part of a specimen avoiding the variation dependent on pieces or parts, we adopt a new method using a micro-fabricated bridge with an additional neck part along $c$ axis. The $γ_{H}$ decreases from a value dependent on the amount of excess Fe at $T_{\rm{c}}$ to a common value $\sim$ 1 at 2 K. The different $γ_{H}$ at $T_{\rm{c}}$ ($\sim$1.5 for $y$ = 0, and 2.5 for $y$ = 0.14) suggests that the anisotropy of effective mass $m_c^*/m_{ab}^*$ increases from $\sim$ 2.25 ($y$ = 0) to 6.25 ($y$ = 0.14) with the excess Fe. The almost isotropic $γ_{H}$ at low temperatures is due to the strong spin paramagnetic effect at $H\parallel ab$. By contrast, the $γ_ρ$ shows a much larger value of $\sim$ 17 ($y$ = 0) to $\sim$ 50 ($y$ = 0.14) at the temperature just above $T_{\rm{c}}$. Combined the results of $γ_{H}$ and $γ_ρ$ near $T_{\rm{c}}$, we found out that the discrepant anisotropies between the SC and normal states originates from a large anisotropy of scattering time $τ_{ab}$/$τ_c$ $\sim$ 7.8. The $τ_{ab}$/$τ_c$ is found to be independent of the excess Fe.

It was magnetized by field-cooling method using a 18 T superconducting magnet, and the maximum field of 14.8 T was trapped at 10 K at a field-ramp rate of 0.1 T/min. At higher temperatures, although the trapped field was decreased, we could trap the field with much faster ramp rate. In order to understand these results, we also performed calculations of the trapped field based on $J_\mathrm{c}-H$ characteristics of the coated conductor. The calculated trapped field value was larger than the experimental value at 10 K. This discrepancy can be understood by considering the reduction of the effective size of the stacked coated conductors due to the existence of extended regions of irregular flux penetration called "flux jets".

When exposed to high magnetic fields, certain materials manifest an exotic superconducting (SC) phase that has attracted considerable attention. A proposed explanation for the origin of the high-field SC phase is the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state. This state is characterized by inhomogeneous superconductivity, where the Cooper pairs have finite center-of-mass momenta. Recently, the high-field SC phase was observed in FeSe, and it was deemed to originate from the FFLO state. Here, we synthesize FeSe single crystals with different levels of disorder. The level of disorder is expressed by the ratio of the mean free path to the coherence length and ranges between 35 and 1.2. The upper critical field \textit{B}$_{\rm{c}2}$ was obtained by both resistivity and magnetic torque measurements over a wide range of temperatures, which went as low as $\sim$0.5 K, and magnetic fields, which went up to $\sim$38 T along the \textit{c} axis and in the \textit{ab} plane. In the high-field region parallel to the \textit{ab} plane, an unusual SC phase was confirmed in all the crystals, and the phase was found to be robust against disorder. This result suggests that the high-field SC phase in FeSe is not a conventional FFLO state.

FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_{x}$ superconductors manifest some intriguing electronic properties depending on the value of $x$. In FeSe single crystal, the nematic phase and Dirac band structure have been observed, while topological surface superconductivity with the Majorana bound state was found in the crystal of $x \sim 0.55$. Therefore, the electronic properties of single crystals with $0 < x \leq 0.5$ are crucial for probing the evolution of those intriguing properties as well as their relations. However, this study is still left blank due to the lack of single crystals because of phase separation. Here, we report the synthesis, magnetization, electronic transport properties, and hydrostatic pressure effect of FeSe$_{0.67}$Te$_{0.33}$ single crystals free of phase separation. A structural (nematic) transition is visible at $T_{s} = 39$ K, below which the resistivity exhibits a Fermi-liquid behavior. Analysis of upper critical fields suggests that spin-paramagnetic effect should be taken into account for both $H \parallel c$ axis and $H \parallel ab$ plane. A crossover from the low-$H$ quadratic to the high-$H$ quasi-linear behavior is observed in the magnetoresistance, signifying the possible existence of Dirac-cone state. Besides, the strong temperature dependence of Hall coefficient, violation of (modified) Kohler's rule, and two-band model analysis indicate the multiband effects in FeSe$_{0.67}$Te$_{0.33}$ single crystals. Hydrostatic pressure measurements reveal that $T_{s}$ is quickly suppressed with pressure while $T_{c}$ is monotonically increased up to 2.31 GPa, indicating the competition between nematicity and superconductivity. No signature of magnetic order that has been detected in FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_{x}$ is observed. Our findings fill up the blank of the knowledge on the basic properties of FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_{x}$ system with low-Te concentrations.

In order to enhance the critical current density ($J_c$) of superconductors, introduction of columnar defects (CDs) through swift-particle irradiation is effective. By dispersing the direction of CDs (splayed CDs), not only further enhancement of $J_c$ has been confirmed but also an anomalous peak effect (APE) in $J_c$ at a certain magnetic field determined by the irradiation dose was observed. It has been proposed that the APE arises from the suppression of kink motion and/or the effects of vortex entanglement in systems with splayed CDs. In this study, we measure $J_c$ properties of optimally K-doped Ba-122-type iron-based superconductor Ba$_{0.6}$K$_{0.4}$Fe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ single crystals with splayed CDs that are introduced asymmetrically with respect to the $c$-axis by irradiating 2.6 GeV U ions. We discuss the significance of the average direction of splayed CDs to the APE. We also discuss the relationship between the APE and the entanglement of vortices.

The change in vortex ensemble in BaFe$_{2}$(As$_{0.67}$P$_{0.33}$)$_2$, an isovalently doped iron-based superconductor (IBS), is studied through global magnetization measurements and single vortex imaging before and after 6 MeV proton irradiation. The field dependence of the critical current density ($J_\mathrm{c}$) is analyzed through the strong pinning model, with which the pristine sample is consistent. After the irradiation, the $J_\mathrm{c}$ aberrates from the strong pinning field dependence of $B^{-5/8}$, and evolves to a weaker $B^{-1/3}$ dependence with an anomalous two-step behavior creating a cusp like feature. The cusp coincides with the field of the local minima in the normalized relaxation rate ($S$), manifested by increased pinning due to increased intervortex interactions followed by fast vortex dynamics caused by flux activation at higher fields. Furthermore, single vortex imaging reveals that while long-range triangular correlation of the Abrikosov vortex lattice is observed in pristine samples, irradiated samples exhibit a highly disordered glassy vortex state which is more densely packed with increased pinning force. These artificial defects incorporated via proton irradiation have the same pinning effect as Co do** which not only shifts the pinning force to a higher degree but also broadens its distribution, in contrast to P do** which only broadens the pinning distribution without inducing a shift. All in all, through this investigation, we provide a systematic understanding of the pinning behavior in BaFe$_{2}$(As$_{0.67}$P$_{0.33}$)$_2$ through carefully controlling the defects in the system.

We present a systematic study of electrical resistivity, Hall coefficient, magneto-optical imaging, magnetization, and STEM analyses of KCa${_2}$Fe${_4}$As${_4}$F${_2}$ single crystals. Sharp diamagnetic transition and magneto-optical imaging reveal homogeneity of single crystal and prominent Bean-like penetrations of vortices. Large anisotropy of electrical resistivity, with ${ρ_c / ρ_{ab}}$ > 100, and semiconductor-like ${ρ_c}$ suggest that the electronic state is quasi two-dimensional. Hall effect measurements indicate that KCa${_2}$Fe${_4}$As${_4}$F${_2}$ is a multiband system with holes as main carriers. Magnetization measurements reveal significantly larger J$_c$ compared with that in other iron-based superconductors with different values of J$_c$ depending on the direction of magnetic field. We fabricated (Ba,Na)Fe2As2 superconducting wires using the powder-in-tube method and hot isostatic pressing. By improving powder synthesis processes compared with previous studies, highly pure raw materials for the wire fabrication were obtained. The largest transport critical current density (Jc) reached 40 kAcm-2 at T = 4.2 K under a magnetic field of 100 kOe. This value exceeds not only the value of transport Jc of the previous (Ba,Na)Fe2As2 wire but also those of all iron-based superconducting round wires. Improvements of polycrystalline powder synthesis play a key role for the enhancement of Jc. Furthermore, it was clarified that higher densification by high-pressure sintering and the texturing of grains in the core of the wire due to drawing also increased Jc effectively. Advantages of (Ba,Na)Fe2As2 wires compared with (Ba,K)Fe2As2 wires are also discussed.

Self-field imaging of current distribution in Ba0.6K0.4Fe2As2 superconductor is used to study the effect of drive on the low-field vortex solid to liquid melting phase transformation. At low fields, the current induced drive on the vortices aids in thermally destabilizing the vortex state thereby shifting the low field melting phase boundary. We show that the current induced drive shifts solid-liquid boundaries and prepones the vortex melting phenomenon compared to the equilibrium situation. The analysis shows that for currents above 50 mA, Joule heating effects shift the melting line while below 50 mA, an effective temperature concept for driven system viz., a drive dependent shaking temperature, explains the shift. The observation of a transformation from inhomogeneous to homogeneous current flow in the sample at low fields as a function of the driving force is reconciled via an inverse dependence of the shaking temperature on vortex velocity, which is incorporated in our analysis.

We report the achieving of depairing current limit along $c$-axis in Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ single crystals. A series of crystals with $T_{\rm{c}}$ ranging from 8.6 K to 13.7 K (different amount of excess Fe, $y$) were fabricated into $c$-axis bridges with a square-micrometer cross-section. The critical current density, $J_{\rm{c}}$, was directly estimated from the transport current-voltage measurements. The transport $J_{\rm{c}}$ reaches a very large value, which is about one order of magnitude larger than the depinning $J_{\rm{c}}$, but comparable to the calculated depairing $J_{\rm{c}}$ $\sim$ 2 $\times$ 10$^6$ A/cm$^2$ at 0 K, based on the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) theory. The temperature dependence of the depairing $J_{\rm{c}}$ follows the GL-theory ($\propto$ (1-$T/T_{\rm{c}}$)$^{3/2}$) down to $\sim$ 0.83 $T_{\rm{c}}$, then increases with a reduced slope at low temperatures, which can be qualitatively described by the Kupriyanov-Lukichev theory. Our study provides a new route to understand the behavior of depairing $J_{\rm{c}}$ in iron-based superconductors in a wide temperature range.

Theoretically, the vortex melting phenomenon occurs at both low and high magnetic fields at a fixed temperature. While the high field melting has been extensively investigated in high Tc cuprates, the low field melting phenomena in the presence of disorder hasn't been well explored. Using bulk magnetization measurement and high-sensitivity differential magneto-optical imaging technique, we detect a low-field vortex melting phenomenon in a single crystal of Ba0.6K0.4Fe2As2. The low field melting is accompanied by a significant change in local magnetization ~ 3 G, which decreases with increasing applied field. The observed vortex melting phenomena is traced on a field temperature phase diagram and which lies very close to theoretically predicted Lindemann criteria based low field melting line. Our analysis shows a Lindemann number cL = 0.14 associated with the low field melting. Imaging of low-field vortex melting features shows the process nucleates via formation of extended finger-like projections which spreads across the sample with increasing field or temperature, before entering into an interaction-dominated vortex solid phase regime. Magnetization scaling analysis shows that the dimensionality of melting vortex state is close to one. Angular dependence of bulk magnetization hysteresis loop in our sample shows the presence of extended defects. From our studies, we propose the sample contains a peculiar geometry of extended defects arranged in a plane in the sample, with these planes extending through the sample thickness. In the weak intervortex interaction limit, we argue that reduced vortex dimensionality due to pinning by these peculiar extended defect planes strongly enhances thermal fluctuations. It is these extended defects planes, which we propose are promoting low dimensional vortex melting in the pnictide system.

Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ is unique in their structural simplicity, consisting of only FeTe/Se layers, which is favorable for probing the mechanism of superconductivity. Recently, a topological surface superconductivity as well as the Majorana Fermions has been observed, which makes Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ the first high temperature topological superconductor. Since large size single crystal of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ can be easily grown, many researches have been performed. However, a large part of the reported results are under controversy, including the resistivity, susceptibility, Hall effect, gap structure, phase diagram, etc. These controversies are believed to come from the sample-dependent Fe nonstoichiometries, which originate from the partial occupation of the second Fe site (excess Fe) in the Te/Se layer. The excess Fe with valence near Fe$^+$ will provide electron do** into the system. Meanwhile, the excess Fe is also strongly magnetic, which will act as a paring breaker and also localize the charge carriers. Removing the excess Fe is essential to probe the intrinsic properties and mechanism of superconductivity of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ compounds. In this topical review, we propose the effective approaches to remove excess Fe in Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$. Furthermore, we discuss the mechanism of annealing based on the evolutions of structure, composition, and morphology with annealing. Moreover, we also review the annealing effects on the normal state and superconducting properties, including the magnetism, transport properties, band structure, $T_{\rm{c}}$, phase diagram, upper critical field, anisotropy, critical current density, gap structure, and superconducting pairing. This review presents not only the optimal way to prepare crystals without excess Fe, but also the intrinsic properties of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ without the influence of excess Fe.

We report on the combined experimental and theoretical analysis of the microwave-frequency electromagnetic response of BaFe2As2 single crystals with different substitutions: K in the Ba site (hole do**), Co in the Fe site (electron do**), and P in the As site (isovalent substitution). Measurements using a coplanar resonator technique lead to the experimental determination of the penetration depth and microwave conductivity as a function of temperature. The whole set of data is analyzed within a self-consistent three-band $s_{\pm}$-wave Eliashberg approach, able to account for all the main observed features in the different properties. Besides the validation of the model itself, the comparison between experiment and theory allows discussing the possible role of the Fe-As planes in defining the superconducting properties of these compounds, the relevance of coherence effects, and the presence of nodes in the superconducting order parameter.

When the magnetic field is applied along the c axis, we observed fish-tail-like peaks in the M-H hysteresis loop, and the magnetization at higher temperatures exceeds that at lower temperatures at high fields. When the field is applied parallel to the ab plane, a dip structure is observed in the M-H hysteresis loop near the self-field. In addition, for the H//ab plane, we succeeded in separately evaluating the large and significantly anisotropic in-plane and out-of-plane Jc. Transmission electron microscopy revealed the presence of planar defects parallel to the ab plane in CaKFe4As4, which have not been observed in any other iron-based superconductors. In the electronic nematic state, an electronic system has a lower symmetry than the crystal structure of the same system. Electronic nematic states have been observed in various unconventional superconductors such as cuprate- and iron-based, heavy-fermion, and topological superconductors. The relation between nematicity and superconductivity is a major unsolved problem in condensed matter physics. By angle-resolved specific heat measurements, we report bulk quasi-particle evidence of nematicity in the topological superconductor Sr$_x$Bi$_2$Se$_3$. The specific heat exhibited a clear 2-fold symmetry despite the 6-fold symmetric lattice. Most importantly, the 2-fold symmetry appeared in the normal state above the superconducting transition temperature. This is explained by the angle-dependent Zeeman effect due to the anisotropic density of states in the nematic phase. Such results highlight the interrelation between nematicity and unconventional superconductivity.

We present an extensive study of the vortex dynamics in Li$_{0.8}$Fe$_{0.2}$OHFeSe single crystal, which is prepared by intercalating insulating spacer layer Li$_{0.8}$Fe$_{0.2}$OH into FeSe. Absence of fishtail effect and the crossover from elastic to plastic creep are observed similar to the parent compound FeSe. However, when we apply collective creep theory to the magnetic relaxation data, the obtained creep exponent $μ$ is found to be $\sim$ 4.1 much larger than the predicted maximum value. Besides, the elastic creep in the vortex phase diagram of Li$_{0.8}$Fe$_{0.2}$OHFeSe is found to reside only in an extremely small region. Such a large value of $μ$ and the small elastic creep region may be originated from the weakening of coupling between the vortices in neighbouring layers by elongating the layer distance. It may indicate that the vortex structure of Li$_{0.8}$Fe$_{0.2}$OHFeSe is in the crossover regime between elastic Abrikosov vortices to stacks of pancake vortices. Our study also suggests that the intercalated FeSe is a promising candidate for searching intrinsic Josephson phenomena.

Majorana quasiparticles (MQPs) in condensed matter play an important role in strategies for topological quantum computing but still remain elusive. Vortex cores of topological superconductors may accommodate MQPs that appear as the zero-energy vortex bound state (ZVBS). An iron-based superconductor Fe(Se,Te) possesses a superconducting topological surface state that has been investigated by scanning tunneling microscopies to detect the ZVBS. However, the results are still controversial. Here, we performed spectroscopic-imaging scanning tunneling microscopy with unprecedentedly high energy resolution to clarify the nature of the vortex bound states in Fe(Se,Te). We found the ZVBS at 0 $\pm$ 20 $μ$eV suggesting its MQP origin, and revealed that some vortices host the ZVBS while others do not. The fraction of vortices hosting the ZVBS decreases with increasing magnetic field, while chemical and electronic quenched disorders are apparently unrelated to the ZVBS. These observations elucidate the conditions to achieve the ZVBS, and may lead to controlling MQPs.

Topological insulators and semimetals as well as unconventional iron-based superconductors have attracted major recent attention in condensed matter physics. Previously, however, little overlap has been identified between these two vibrant fields, even though the principal combination of topological bands and superconductivity promises exotic unprecedented avenues of superconducting states and Majorana bound states (MBSs), the central building block for topological quantum computation. Along with progressing laser-based spin-resolved and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) towards high energy and momentum resolution, we have resolved topological insulator (TI) and topological Dirac semimetal (TDS) bands near the Fermi level ($E_{\text{F}}$) in the iron-based superconductors Li(Fe,Co)As and Fe(Te,Se), respectively. The TI and TDS bands can be individually tuned to locate close to $E_{\text{F}}$ by carrier do**, allowing to potentially access a plethora of different superconducting topological states in the same material. Our results reveal the generic coexistence of superconductivity and multiple topological states in iron-based superconductors, rendering these materials a promising platform for high-$T_{\text{c}}$ topological superconductivity.

We investigate the band structure, nematic state and superconducting gap structure of two selected FeSe single crystals containing different amount of disorder. Transport and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements show that the small amount of disorder has little effect to the band structure and the nematic state of FeSe. However, temperature and magnetic field dependencies of specific heat for the two samples are quite different. Wave-vector-dependent gap structure are obtained from the three dimensional field-angle-resolved specific heat measurements. A small gap with two vertical-line nodes or gap minima along the $k_z$ direction is found only in the sample with higher quality. Such symmetry-unprotected nodes or gap minima are found to be smeared out by small amount of disorder, and the gap becomes isotropic in the sample of lower quality. Our study reveals that the reported controversy on the gap structure of FeSe is due to the disorder-sensitive node-like small gap.

While there is a manifold possible onset of superconducting order in such systems, few observations of intrinsic superconductivity have so far been reported for TDSs. We observe evidence for a TDS phase in FeTe$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ ($x$ = 0.45), one of the high transition temperature ($T_c$) iron-based superconductors. In angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) and transport experiments, we find spin-polarized states overlap** with the bulk states on the (001) surface, and linear magnetoresistance (MR) starting from 6 T. Combined, this strongly suggests the existence of a TDS phase, which is confirmed by theoretical calculations. In total, the topological electronic states in Fe(Te,Se) provide a promising high $T_c$ platform to realize multiple topological superconducting phases.

Critical current densities through magnetization measurements were carefully evaluated, where a splay angle of $\pm 5 ^\circ$ brought about the highest $J_\mathrm{c}$. Mageto-optical images close to $T_\mathrm{c}$ indicates highly anisotropic discontinuity lines in the remnant state, and with anisotropy increasing with greater splay angles. Moreover, amongst those with splayed columnar defects, anomalous non-monotonic field dependences of $J_\mathrm{c}$ and $S$ with an extrema at some fraction of the matching field are observed. We discuss that such $J_\mathrm{c}$ enhancement arises from a field-driven coupling transition in which intervortex interactions reorganize the vortex structure to be accommodated into columnar defects, thereby increasing pinning at higher fields.

A nematic transition preceding a long-range spin density wave antiferromagnetic phase is a common feature of many Fe based superconductors. However, in the FeSe system with a nematic transition at $T_{\rm s} \approx$ 90 K no evidence for long-range static magnetism down to very low temperature was found. The lack of magnetism is a challenge for the theoretical description of FeSe. Here, we investigated high-quality single crystals of FeSe using high-field (up to 9.5 Tesla) muon spin rotation ($μ$SR) measurements. The $μ$SR Knight shift and the bulk susceptibility linearly scale at high temperatures but deviate from this behavior around $T^{*} \sim 10$ K, where the Knight shift exhibits a kink. This behavior hints to an essential change of the electronic and/or magnetic properties crossing the region near $T^{*}$. In the temperature range $T_{\rm s} \gtrsim T \gtrsim T^{*}$ the muon spin depolarization rate follows a critical behavior $Λ\propto T^{-0.4}$. The observed non-Fermi liquid behavior with a cutoff at $T^{*}$ indicates that FeSe is in the vicinity to a antiferromagnetic quantum critical point. Our analysis is suggestive for $T^{*}$ triggered by the Lifshitz transition.

We report the study on superconducting pairing mechanism of FeSe via the pair-breaking effects induced by H$^+$-irradiation combined with low-temperature specific heat measurements. A multi-gap structure with nodes or gap minima is suggested in a clean FeSe by the specific heat results. The suppression of critical temperature $T_c$ with increasing the defect density manifests a two-step behavior. When the increase in the residual resistivity is small, $Δρ_0$ $<$ $\sim$4.5 $μΩ$cm, $T_c$ is gradually suppressed with increasing the density of scattering centers, suggesting the presence of symmetry-unprotected nodes or gap minima. However, for $Δρ_0$ $>$ $\sim$4.5 $μΩ$cm, $T_c$ is almost independent of the scattering, which indicates that the nodes or gap minima are lifted and the order parameter becomes almost isotropic without sign change. Thus, the superconductivity in FeSe is found to be realized in symmetry-unprotected nodal or highly anisotropic $s_{++}$ state.

Low-temperature phase is characterized by much larger domains in V-AV state and peculiar branched striped structures at the surface, which are typical for uniaxial ferromagnets with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA). The domain wall parameters at various temperatures are estimated.

Ferromagnetic van der Waals (vdW) materials are in demand for spintronic devices with all-two-dimensional-materials heterostructures. Here, we demonstrate mechanical exfoliation of magnetic-atom-intercalated transition metal dichalcogenide Cr1/3TaS2 from its bulk crystal; previously such intercalated materials were thought difficult to exfoliate. Magnetotransport in exfoliated tens-of-nanometres-thick flakes revealed ferromagnetic ordering below its Curie temperature TC ~ 110 K as well as strong in-plane magnetic anisotropy; these are identical to its bulk properties. Further, van der Waals heterostructure assembly of Cr1/3TaS2 with another intercalated ferromagnet Fe1/4TaS2 is demonstrated using a dry-transfer method. The fabricated heterojunction composed of Cr1/3TaS2 and Fe1/4TaS2 with a native Ta2O5 oxide tunnel barrier in between exhibits tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR), revealing possible spin injection and detection with these exfoliatable ferromagnetic materials through the vdW junction.

Quasiparticle excitations in FeSe were studied by means of specific heat ($C$) measurements on a high-quality single crystal under rotating magnetic fields. The field dependence of $C$ shows three-stage behavior with different slopes, indicating the existence of three gaps ($Δ_1$, $Δ_2$, and $Δ_3$). In the low-temperature and low-field region, the azimuthal-angle ($φ$) dependence of $C$ shows a four-fold symmetric oscillation with sign change. On the other hand, the polar-angle ($θ$) dependence manifests as an anisotropy-inverted two-fold symmetry with unusual shoulder behavior. Combining the angle-resolved results and the theoretical calculation, the smaller gap $Δ_1$ is proved to have two vertical-line nodes or gap minima along the $k_z$ direction, and is determined to reside on the electron-type $\varepsilon$ band. $Δ_2$ is found to be related to the electron-type $δ$ band, and is isotropic in the $ab$-plane but largely anisotropic out of the plane. $Δ_3$ residing on the hole-type $α$ band shows a small out-of-plane anisotropy with a strong Pauli-paramagnetic effect.

We report the effects of heavy-ion irradiation on FeSe single crystals by irradiating Uranium up to a dose equivalent matching field of $B_φ$ = 16 T. Almost continuous columnar defects along the $c$-axis with a diameter $\sim$10 nm are confirmed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. $T_c$ is found to be suppressed by introducing columnar defects at a rate of d$T_c$/d$B_φ$ $\sim$ -0.29KT$^{-1}$, which is much larger than those observed in iron pnictides. This unexpected large suppression of $T_c$ in FeSe is discussed in relation to the large diameter of the columnar defects as well as its unique band structure with a remarkably small Fermi energy. The critical current density is first dramatically enhanced with irradiation reaching a value over $\sim$2$\times$10$^5$ A/cm$^2$ ($\sim$5 times larger than that of the pristine sample) at 2 K (self-field) with $B_φ$ = 2 T, then gradually suppressed with increasing $B_φ$. The $δ$$l$-pinning associated with charge-carrier mean free path fluctuations, and the $δ$$T_c$-pinning associated with spatial fluctuations of the transition temperature are found to coexist in the pristine FeSe, while the irradiation increases the contribution from $δ$$l$-pinning, and makes it dominant over $B_φ$ = 4 T.

A pronounced AMR with twofold symmetry is observed, which is caused by the quasi two-dimensional (2D) Fermi surface. The pronounced AMR is observed only in the orthorhombic phase, indicating that the quasi-2D Fermi surface is induced by the structural transition. Details about the influence of the multiband effect to the AMR are also discussed. Besides, the angular response of a possible Dirac-cone-like band structure is investigated by analyzing the detailed magnetoresistance at different $θ$. The obtained characteristic field ($B^*$) can be also roughly scaled in the 2D approximation, which indicates that the Dirac-cone-like state is also 2D in nature.

Furthermore, the fact that no compounds containing iodine are detected in the crystal and a significant amount of FeTe2 is produced after the iodine annealing strongly indicate that the excess iron is consumed to form FeTe2 and iodine works as a catalyst in this process.

The AFM wave vectors are bicollinear ($π$, 0) in the parent compound FeTe different from the collinear AFM order ($π$, $π$) in most iron pnictides. Study of the phase diagram of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ is the most direct way to investigate the competition between bicollinear AFM and SC. However, presence of interstitial Fe affects both magnetism and SC of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$, which hinders the establishment of the real phase diagram. Here, we report the comparison of do**-temperature ($x$-$T$) phase diagrams for Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ (0 $\leq$ $x$ $\leq$ 0.43) single crystals before and after removing interstitial Fe. Without interstitial Fe, the AFM state survives only for $x$ $<$ 0.05, and bulk SC emerges from $x$ = 0.05, and does not coexist with the AFM state. The previously reported spin glass state, and the coexistence of AFM and SC may be originated from the effect of the interstitial Fe. The phase diagram of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ is found to be similar to the case of the "1111" system such as LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_x$, and is different from that of the "122" system.

Magneto-optical imaging studies on a high-quality Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 single crystal partially patterned with a triangular array of holes reveal enhanced flux shielding in the patterned region of the sample. By map** local magnetic field and shielding current density distributions at different applied magnetic fields and temperatures we determine the regime where pinning from the patterned holes dominates over the intrinsic pinning in the sample. In this regime, the flux density near the center of the patterned region is observed to increase when the applied field is varied from below the matching field to just above it, while significant magnetic field gradients are sustained in the patterned region. Our measurements indicate heterogeneous pinning properties of the vortex population, exhibiting signatures of both weak and strong pinning, in the nanopatterned region of the superconductor.

Using magneto-optical imaging technique, we map local magnetic field distribution inside a hexagonally ordered array of blind holes patterned in BSCCO single crystals. The nature of the spatial distribution of local magnetic field and shielding currents across the array reveals the presence of a non-uniform vortex configuration partially matched with the blind holes at sub-matching fields. We observe that the filling fraction is different in two different regions of the array. The mean vortex configuration within the array is described as a patchy vortex configuration with the patches having different mean filling fraction. The patchy nature of the vortex configuration is more pronounced at partial filling of the array at low fields while the configuration becomes more uniform with a unique filling fraction at higher fields. The metastable nature of this patchy vortex configuration is revealed by the application of magnetic field pulses of fixed height or individual pulses of varying height to the array. The metastability of the vortex configuration allows for a relatively easy way of producing flux reorganization and flux focusing effects within the blind hole array. Effect of the magnetic field pulses modifies the vortex configuration within the array and produces a uniform enhancement in the shielding current around the patterned array edges. The enhanced shielding current concentrates magnetic flux within the array by driving vortices away from the edges and towards the center of the array. The enhanced shielding current also prevents the uninhibited entry of vortices into the array. We propose that the metastable patchy vortex configuration within the blind hole array is due to a non-uniform pinning landscape leading to non-uniform filling of individual blind holes.

A pronounced linear magnetoresistance (MR) is observed in both FeSe and FeSe$_{0.86}$S$_{0.14}$ single crystals, which is found to be triggered by the structural transition. The linear MR and related discussion indicate the possible existence of Dirac-cone-like state, which may come from the band shift induced by ferro-orbital order. The mobility of the Dirac-cone-like band is found to decrease after S do**. Besides, the invalid Kohler's scaling of MR is found for temperature below $T_s$ in both crystals, however the re-establishment of the Kohler's scaling at temperatures below 30 K is observed in FeSe, but not in FeSe$_{0.86}$S$_{0.14}$. All these observations above support that the orbital ordering causes the band reconstruction in FeSe, and also that the orbital ordering in FeSe is suppressed by the chemical pressure from S do**.

It has been clarified that bulk superconductivity in Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{0.6}$Se$_{0.4}$ can be induced by annealing in an appropriate atmosphere to remove the harmful effects of excess iron. In order to clarify the details of the annealing process, we studied the changes in the physical properties and reaction products of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{0.6}$Se$_{0.4}$ annealed in pnictogen (P, As, Sb) atmospheres. Crystals annealed in a pnictogen atmosphere show bulk superconductivity and the values of $T_{c}$ and $J_{c}$ are about $14~$K and 2-4 $\times 10{^5}~$A/cm$^2$ ($2~$K, self-field), respectively. It is also found that the reaction rate increases with the increase in the saturated vapor pressure of the pnictogen. Unexpectedly, the reaction products of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{0.6}$Se$_{0.4}$ after annealing in a P atmosphere mainly consist of FeTe$_2$. In addition, the amount of P required to obtain the optimal $T_{c}$ is much smaller than the amount of excess iron, which is similar to the case of oxygen annealing. P, oxygen, and to some extent As could serve as catalysts to form FeTe$_2$ to remove excess iron.

It is found that the value of $J_c$ for FeSe is enhanced more than twice after 3-MeV H$^+$ irradiation. The scaling analyses of the vortex pinning force based on the Dew-Hughes model reveal that the H$^+$ irradiation successfully introduce point pinning centers into the crystal. We also find that the vortex creep rates are strongly suppressed after irradiation. Detailed analyses of the critical current dependent pinning energy based on the collective creep theory and extend Maley's method show that the H$^+$ irradiation enhances the value of $J_c$ before the flux creep, and also reduces the size of flux bundle, which will further reduce the field dependence of $J_c$ due to vortex motion.

We present a comprehensive study of the vortex pinning and dynamics in a high-quality FeSe single crystal, which is free from do** introduced inhomogeneities and charged quasi-particle-scattering because of its innate superconductivity. Critical current density, $J_c$, is found to be almost isotropic, and reaches a value $\sim$ 3 $\times$ 10$^4$ A/cm$^2$ at 2 K (self-field) for both $H$ $\|$ $c$ and $ab$. The normalized magnetic relaxation rate $S$ (= $\mid$dln$M$/dln$t$$\mid$) shows a temperature insensitive plateau behavior in the intermediate temperature range with a relatively high creep rate ($S$ $\sim$ 0.02 under zero field), which is interpreted in the framework of the collective creep theory. A crossover from the elastic to plastic creep is observed, while the fish-tail effect is absent for both $H$ $\|$ $c$ and $ab$. Based on this observation, the origin of the fish-tail effect is also discussed. Combining the results of $J_c$ and $S$, vortex motion in FeSe single crystal is found to be dominated by sparse strong point-like pinning from nm-sized defects or imperfections. The weak collective pinning is also observed and proved in the form of large bundles. Besides, the vortex phase diagram of FeSe is also constructed and discussed.

A magnetic field applied to type-II superconductors introduces quantized vortices that locally quench superconductivity, providing a unique opportunity to investigate electronic orders that may compete with superconductivity. This is especially true in cuprate superconductors in which mutual relationships among superconductivity, pseudogap, and broken-spatial-symmetry states have attracted much attention. Here we observe energy and momentum dependent bipartite electronic superstructures in the vortex core of Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ using spectroscopic-imaging scanning tunneling microscopy (SI-STM). In the low-energy range where the nodal Bogoliubov quasiparticles are well-defined, we show that the quasiparticle scattering off vortices generates the electronic superstructure known as "vortex checkerboard". In the high-energy region where the pseudogap develops, vortices amplify the broken-spatial-symmetry patterns that preexist in zero field. These data reveal canonical d-wave superconductivity near the node, yet competition between superconductivity and broken-spatial-symmetry states near the antinode.

The upper critical field Hc2 anisotropy of Ca10(PtnAs8)(Fe2-xPtxAs2)5 (n = 3, 4) single crystals with long FeAs interlayer distance (d) was studied by angular dependent resistivity measurements. A scaling of the angular dependent resistivity was realized for both single crystals using the anisotropic Ginzburg-Landau (AGL) approach with an appropriate anisotropy parameter γ. The AGL scaling parameter γ increases with decreasing temperature and reaches a value of about 10 at 0.8Tc for both single crystals. These values are much larger than those of other iron-based superconductors (FeSCs). Remarkably, the values of γ2 show an almost linear increase with the FeAs/FeSe interlayer distance d for FeSCs. Compared to cuprates, FeSCs are less anisotropic, indicating that two dimensionality of the superconductivity is intrinsically weak.

We investigated the superconducting and transport properties in FeTe$_{1-x}$Se$_{x}$ (0.1 $\leq$ $x$ $\leq$ 0.4) single crystals prepared by O$_2$-annealing. Sharp superconducting transition width observed in magnetization measurement and the small residual resistivity prove the high quality of the crystals. All the crystals manifest large, homogeneous, and isotropic critical current density \emph{J}$_c$ with self-field value over 10$^5$ A/cm$^2$ at 2 K. The large and field-robust critical current densities prove that the superconductivity in FeTe$_{1-x}$Se$_{x}$ (0.1 $\leq$ $x$ $\leq$ 0.4) is in bulk nature. The values of anisotropy parameter close to $T_c$ for crystals with different Se do** levels all reside in the range of 2 - 3. Hall coefficients $R_H$ keeps positive and almost constant value at high temperatures, followed by a sudden decreases before reaching $T$$_c$, which indicates that the electron-type charge carriers become dominant at low temperatures. Furthermore, the characteristic temperature for the sudden decrease in $R_H$ gradually increases with Se do**.
