The last few years have witnessed a surge in interest and research efforts in the field of twistronics, especially in low-angle twisted bilayers of transition metal dichalocogenides. These novel material platforms have been demonstrated to host periodic arrays of excitonic quantum emitters, interlayer excitons with long lifetimes, and exotic many-body states. While much remains to be known and understood about these heterostructures, the field of high-angle, incommensurate bilayers is even less explored. At twist angles larger than a few degrees, the presence of periodicity in these bilayers becomes chaotic, making the systems essentially aperiodic and incommensurate in nature due to the limitations of fabrication techniques. In this work, we demonstrate the emergence of a brightened dark intralayer exciton in twisted molybdenum diselenide homobilayer. We show that this dark exciton diffuses across the excitation spot more efficiently as compared to trions or excitons, reaching diffusion lengths greater than 4 microns. Temperature-dependent spectra provide corroborative evidence and reveal a brightened dark trion. Our results reveal some of the richness of the physics of these high-angle systems.

In the last decade, the materials community has been exploring new 2D materials (graphene, metallene, TMDs, TMCs, MXene, among others) that have unique physical and chemical properties. Recently, a new family of 2D materials, the so-called 2D silicates, have been proposed. They are predicted to exhibit exciting properties (such as high catalytic activity, piezoelectricity, and 2D magnetism). In the current work, we demonstrate a generic approach to the synthesis of large-scale 2D silicates from selected minerals, such as Diopside (d). Different experimental techniques were used to confirm the existence of the 2D structures (named 2D-d-silicates). DFT simulations were also used to gain insight into the structural features and energy harvesting mechanisms (flexoelectric response generating voltage up to 10 V). The current approach is completely general and can be utilized for large-scale synthesis of 2D silicates and their derivatives, whose large-scale syntheses have been elusive.

Template-assisted synthesis is a facile way of growing various one-dimensional nanostructures. Among various nanoporous templates, anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) is most commonly used. In this work, the kinetics of silver nanowire growth by electrodeposition in AAO templates was investigated. The AAO templates were fabricated using the standard two-step anodisation process. The geometrical features of the fabricated templates, such as pore diameter (55 nm), interpore distance (115 nm), wall thickness (27 nm), porosity (19.87 %), and pore density were obtained using scanning electron microscopy. The oxide layer at the bottom of the pores was modified by the barrier layer thinning process and chemical etching in order to facilitate uniform metal deposition. This was followed by pore widening to increase the diameter of the pores to 65 nm to enhance deposition. Interpore distance increased to 119.8 nm and wall thickness remained almost constant at 27.7 nm. Silver was deposited using conventional electrodeposition in constant current mode. Deposition parameters such as time, current, solution concentration, and temperature were systematically investigated. For each deposition, the efficiency of the process was calculated by considering the filling fraction of the pores and the average length of the wires, all of which were measured from the SEM images. A linear growth versus time was observed within the parameter range. From the experiments, it was observed that decreasing the current, increasing the deposition temperature, and depositing for longer duration increased the average length of the nanowires. The use of electrodeposition to grow metallic nanowires can be extended to other pure metal and alloy systems.

We study the shear induced fluidization of amorphous solids subjected to external loading by investigating the relaxation dynamics of the deformed states using computer simulation. A simple shear deformation is employed at constant rate to the thermal glassy materials. The shear localization and the plastic deformation heterogeneity with strain is investigated in terms of the non-affine displacement field. The mean square displacement shows an enhanced mobility of the particles with strain, indicating the fluidization of the material. Using the time correlation function we estimate the relaxation time of the sheared glasses. A significant decrease in the relaxation time is observed up to the yielding point as the material loses its solid nature and eventually becomes liquid-like. Finally, the imprint of memory of the quiescent sample on the rheological properties of the shear melted glass is investigated by computing the relaxation of the shear stress. We find a finite persistent residual stress that outlasts the experimental observation time in our system.

To assess long-term structural integrity under operational conditions in nuclear reactors, SS 316LN with varying nitrogen content is subjected to thermal aging for 20000 hours at 650°C. While the annealing twins and heterogeneous grain evolution by bimodal division are independent of chemical composition, the type, size and morphology of evolving secondary phases are characteristic for nitrogen concentration. Colour contrast in bright field optical microscopy combined with transmission electron microscopy reveals the presence of three major precipitate phases; M23(C, N)6, Fe2Mo intermetallics and Cr2N. Contiguously formed hetero-structures of Fe2Mo and Cr2N are quantified and extensive formation has been observed in steels with high nitrogen content (0.14 wt. % and 0.22 wt. %). A unique occurrence of morphological derivatives of intra-granular M23(C, N)6 precipitates with cube-on-cube orientation relationship such as (1) isolated cubes, (2) primary stringers/strings of cubes, (3) secondary stringers/clusters of branched primary strings, and (4) clusters of laths are identified. The stringers and laths are preferentially grown in{111}/<110>γ and have crystallographic variants. The conclusions are drawn from bright field colour contrast optical micrographs in the present study demonstrate the potential of light optical microscopy to be used as a significant tool to efficiently and accurately process huge amount of data including the preferential growth planes/directions ({111}/<110>) of morphological derivatives of M23(C, N)6 precipitates, by analyzing the symmetry and dense planes/directions of secondary phases. Overall mechanical properties have been reformed by the precipitation strengthening effect arising from the excess nitrogen content.

The enhancement in Néel temperature has been attributed to the strong orbital hybridization that leads to change in nearest neighbor bond angle and bond distances. Impedance spectroscopy has revealed conduction mechanism at low temperature is due to the polaron hop** while extrinsic contributions from the Maxwell-Wagner dominant at high temperatures

This model undergoes quantum Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) transition with two limiting conditions. We derive the renormalization group (RG) equations explicitly and also present the flow lines behavior. We also present the behavior of RG flow lines based on the exact solution. We observe that the physics of Majorana fermion zero modes and the gaped Ising-ferromagnetic phase, which appears in a different context. We observe that the evidence of gapless helical Luttinger liquid phase as a common non-topological quantum phase for both quantum BKT transitions. We explain analytically and physically that there is no Majorana-Ising transition. In the presence of chemical potential, the system shows the commensurate to incommensurate transition.

Here we present a completely new and interesting result of symmetry, topology and quantization of geometric phase along with the physical explanation for two different symmetry classes. We present a detailed study of the auxiliary space for two different symmetry classes of Hamiltonians. We show explicitly that the origin of the auxiliary space inside the curve is only a necessary condition but it is not a sufficient condition for the topological state. One of the most interesting results is that same symmetry-class Hamiltonians show different behaviour in topology and quantized geometric phase.

We present results for asymptotic freedom like behavior for the topological state of the helical spin liquid system with finite proximity induced superconducting gap. We derive two different quantum Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) equations for the two different limit of this model Hamiltonian. The common quantum phase for these two quantum BKT transitions is the helical Luttinger liquid phase where there is no evidence of asymptotic freedom. There is no evidence of superconductor-insulator transition for this asymptotic freedom study. We observe the evidance of asymptotic freedom for the two model Hamiltonian, but the character of the asymptotic phases are different. We also observe that the Luttinger liquid parameter plays a significant role to determine the asymptotic freedom but the chemical potential has no effect on it.
