Continuous time-translation symmetry is often spontaneously broken in open quantum systems, and the condition for their emergence has been actively investigated. However, there are only a few cases in which its condition for appearance has been fully elucidated. In this Letter, we show that a Lindladian parity-time (PT) symmetry can generically produce persistent periodic oscillations, including dissipative continuous time crystals, in one-collective spin models. By making an analogy to non-reciprocal phase transitions, we demonstrate that a transition point from the dynamical phase is associated with spontaneous PT symmetry breaking and typically corresponds to a \textit{critical exceptional point}. Interestingly, the periodic orbits in the PT-symmetric phase are found to be center-type, implying an initial-state-dependent amplitude. These results are established by proving that the Lindbladian PT symmetry at the microscopic level implies a non-linear PT symmetry, and by performing a linear stability analysis near the transition point. This research will further our understanding of novel non-equilibrium phases of matter and phase transitions with spontaneous anti-unitary symmetry breaking.

We conducted an investigation on the temperature and magnetic field dependence of the elastic properties of UCoAl. The longitudinal elastic stiffness, $C_{33}$, exhibits significant softening as the system approaches the critical endpoint (CEP). This softening is indicative of an ultrasonic dispersion phenomenon, where the anomaly in the elastic constants diminishes with increasing measurement frequency. Fine structures were observed near the CEP in higher frequencies. The magnetic field dependence of $C_{33}$ can be explained by assuming a specific field dependence of the relaxation time. Remarkably, we recorded a relaxation time of 3.5$\times$10$^{-8}$ s in the vicinity of the CEP, which is the longest observed value among solids. These peculiar ultrasonic properties cannot be explained solely by Ising-like ferromagnetic fluctuations, suggesting the involvement of the quadrupole (orbital) degree of freedom in the formation of the CEP. We discussed the origin of these observed phenomena in relation to the magnetic ground state of the UCoAl system.

This study aims to provide evidence regarding the emergence of a class of dissipative time crystals when $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry of the systems is restored in collective spin systems with Lindblad dynamics. First, we show that a standard model of boundary time crystals (BTCs) satisfies the Liouvillian $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry, and prove that BTC exists only when the stationary state is $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetric in the large-spin limit. Also, a similar statement is confirmed numerically for another BTC model. In addition, the mechanism of the appearance of BTCs is discussed through the development of a perturbation theory for a class of the one-spin models under weak dissipations. Consequently, we show that BTCs appear in the first-order correction when the total gain and loss are balanced. These results strongly suggest that BTCs are time crystals originating from $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry.

Epitaxial thin films of REBa2Cu3O7-d (RE123, RE: rare earth) having a high entropy (HE) RE site were successfully fabricated on a SrTiO3 substrate by the pulsed laser deposition method. One to five RE elements are solved at the RE site, which results in an increase in configurational entropy of mixing (dSmix). Through the measurements of critical current density (Jc) by a magnetization and the Bean's model analysis, we found that the Jc of the HE films exceeds an order of 1.0 MA/cm2 under conditions of T < 20 K and H < 7 T. Since the HE effects have a potential to an improvement of irradiation tolerance, the present results encourage further development of HE RE123 superconducting materials for a practical use in the environment with high magnetic fields and irradiation, for example in fusion reactors.

We investigate parity-time ($\mathcal{PT}$) phase transitions in open quantum systems and discuss a criterion of Liouvillian $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry proposed recently by Huber \textit{et al}. [J. Huber \textit{et al}., SciPost Phys. $\textbf{9}$, 52 (2020)]. Using the third quantization, which is a general method to solve the Lindblad equation for open quadratic systems, we show, with a proposed criterion of $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry, that the eigenvalue structure of the Liouvillian clearly changes at the $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry breaking point for an open 2-spin model with exactly balanced gain and loss if the total spin is large. In particular, in a $\mathcal{PT}$ unbroken phase, some eigenvalues are pure imaginary numbers while in a $\mathcal{PT}$ broken phase, all the eigenvalues are real. From this result, it is analytically shown for an open quantum system including quantum jumps that the dynamics in the long time limit changes from an oscillatory to an overdamped behavior at the proposed $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry breaking point. Furthermore, we show a direct relation between the criterion of Huber \textit{et al}. of Liouvillian $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry and the dynamics of the physical quantities for quadratic bosonic systems. Our results support the validity of the proposed criterion of Liouvillian $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry.

However, inevitably incorporated excess Fe currently prevents the establishment of the true phase diagram. We overcome the aforementioned significant problem via develo** a new annealing method termed as "Te-annealing" wherein single crystals are annealed under Te vapor. Specifically, we conducted various magnetotransport measurements on Te-annealed superconducting Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{x}$. We observed that crossover from the incoherent to the coherent electronic state and opening of the pseudogap occurs at high temperatures ($\approx$ 150 K for $x$ = 0.2). This is accompanied by a more substantial pseudogap and the emergence of a phase with a multi-band nature at lower temperatures (below $\approx$ 50 K for $x$ = 0.2) before superconductivity sets in. Based on the results, the third type electronic phase diagram in Fe-based high-$T_c$ superconductors is revealed.

Atomically thin one dimensional (1D) van der Waals wires of transition metal monochalocogenides (TMMs) have been anticipated as promising building blocks for integrated nanoelectronics. While reliable production of TMM nanowires has eluded scientists over the past few decades, we finally demonstrated a bottom up fabrication of MoTe nanowires inside carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Still, the current synthesis method is based on vacuum annealing of reactive MoTe2, and limits access to a variety of TMMs. Here we report an expanded framework for high yield synthesis of the 1D tellurides including WTe, an unprecedented family of TMMs. Experimental and theoretical analyses revealed that the choice of suitable metal oxides as a precursor provides useful yield for their characterization. These TMM nanowires exhibit a significant optical absorption in the visible light region. More important, electronic properties of CNTs can be tuned by encapsulating different TMM nanowires.

The magnetic field dependence of electronic transport, magnetic, and elastic properties in single crystals of PbTe were investigated in high magnetic fields up to 55 T. The magnetoresistance, magnetization, ultrasonic attenuation, and sound velocity showed clear quantum oscillations with pronounced Zeeman-splitting, which causes a large second harmonic in the frequency spectra. The ratio of the Zeeman to the cyclotron energy, which is regarded as an index of `Diracness' [H. Hayasaka and Y. Fuseya, J. Phys.: Condens. Matter \textbf{28,} 31LT01 (2016).], was determined to be 0.52 and 0.57 in samples with different carrier densities. We also pointed out that the effect of Zeeman-splitting seriously affects the Landau-level fan diagram analysis, which is widely used to extract the nontrivial Berry's phase from the quantum oscillations.

Transition metal dichalcogenides are 2D structures with remarkable electronic, chemical, optical and mechanical properties. Monolayer and crystal properties of these structures have been extensively investigated, but a detailed understanding of the properties of their few-layer structures are still missing. In this work we investigated the mechanical differences between monolayer and multilayer WSe2 and MoSe2, through fully atomistic molecular dynamics simulations (MD). It was observed that single layer WSe2/MoSe2 deposited on silicon substrates have larger friction coefficients than 2, 3 and 4 layered structures. For all considered cases it is always easier to peel off and/or to fracture MoSe2 structures. These results suggest that the interactions between first layer and substrate are stronger than interlayer interactions themselves. Similar findings have been reported for other nanomaterials and it has been speculated whether this is a universal-like behavior for 2D layered materials. We have also analyzed fracture patterns. Our results show that fracture is chirality dependent with crack propagation preferentially perpendicular to W(Mo)-Se bonds and faster for zig-zag-like defects.

This system shows a large elastic softening in $C_{66}$ towards low temperatures. In addition to $C_{66}$, which originates from orthorhombic structural fluctuation, the samples near the optimal concentration show remarkable structural fluctuation in $C_{11}$ and $C_{33}$ elastic modes, which correspond to $Γ_{1}$ (C4) symmetry. It suggests the existence of diverse fluctuations in this system. Gr{\" u}neisen parameters were analyzed under some assumptions for structural and magnetic transition temperatures. Results showed that the Gr{\" u}neisen parameters for the inter-plane strain are remarkably enhanced toward the QCP, while those for the in-plane stress tend to turn down near the QCP. Gr{\" u}neisen parameters for the superconducting transition are anisotropic and shows remarkable Co-concentration dependence, suggesting that the in-plane isotropic compression and inter-layer elongation enhance the superconductivity. The correlation of Gr{\" u}neisen parameters between $T_{\rm S}$, $T_{\rm N}$ and $T_{\rm sc}$ shows $c$-axis elongation and its relevant role in the emergence of superconductivity in this system.

We investigated the elastic properties of the iron-based superconductor Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2 with eight Co concentrations. The elastic constant C66 shows large elastic softening associated with the structural phase transition. The C66 was analyzed base on localized and itinerant pictures of Fe-3d electrons, which shows the strong electron-lattice coupling and a possible mass enhancement in this system. The results resemble those of unconventional superconductors, where the properties of the system are governed by the quantum fluctuations associated with the zero-temperature critical point of the long-range order; namely, the quantum critical point (QCP). In this system, the inverse of C66 behaves just like the magnetic susceptibility in the magnetic QCP systems. While the QCPs of these existing superconductors are all ascribed to antiferromagnetism, our systematic studies on the canonical iron-based superconductor Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2 have revealed that there is a signature of "structural quantum criticality" in this material, which is so far without precedent. The elastic constant anomaly is suggested to concern with the emergence of superconductivity. These results highlight the strong electron-lattice coupling and effect of the band in this system, thus challenging the prevailing scenarios that focus on the role of the iron 3d-orbitals.

This paper has been withdrawn by the author due to some experimental mistakes. In this paper, we reported that C66, C44 and (C11-C12)/2 show remarkable softening toward the structural transition temperature TS. The data reported in this paper were acquired using the ultrasonic frequency lower than 25 MHz. Recently, we performed high-frequency measurements for the same system. We found that the anomaly of C44 and (C11-C12)/2 tend to disappear rapidly with increasing the frequency. On the other hand, C66 anomaly is still there at high frequencies. Therefore, we concluded that the observed anomalies in C44 and (C11-C12)/2 are not true. They would be ascribed to certain influence by the large softening of C66. So, we have checked our data through careful measurements by using ultrasonic frequency higher than 60 MHz, so far. Then, it has been found that C66 shows still nice softening toward TS, but that its temperature dependence is slightly different from the results of this paper. We have accumulated reliable data now. They will be reported in near future.

The filled skutterudite compound SmRu_4P_{12} undergoes a complex evolution from a paramagnetic metal (phase I) to a probable multipolar ordering insulator (phase II) at T_{MI} = 16.5 K, then to a magnetically ordered phase (phase III) at T_{N} = 14 K. Elastic properties under hydrostatic pressures were investigated to study the nature of the ordering phases. We found that distinct elastic softening above T_{MI} is induced by pressure, giving evidence of quadrupole degeneracy of the ground state in the crystalline electric field. It also suggests that quadrupole moment may be one of the order parameters below T_{MI} under pressure. Strangely, the largest degree of softening is found in the transverse elastic constant C_{T} at around 0.5-0.6 GPa, presumably having relevancy to the competing and very different Gruneisen parameters Ωof T_{MI} and T_{N}. Interplay between the two phase transitions is also verified by the rapid increase of T_{MI} under pressure with a considerably large Ωof 9. Our results can be understood on the basis of the proposed octupole scenario for SmRu_4P_{12}.

We have investigated the elastic properties of the Ce-based filled skutterudite antimonides CeRu$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ and CeOs$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ by means of ultrasonic measurements. CeRu$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ shows a slight increase around 130 K in the temperature dependence of the elastic constants $C$$_{11}$, ($C$$_{11}$-$C$$_{12}$)/2 and $C$$_{44}$. No apparent softening toward low temperature due to a quadrupolar response of the 4$f$-electronic ground state of the Ce ion was observed at low temperatures. In contrast CeOs$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ shows a pronounced elastic softening toward low temperature in the longitudinal $C$$_{11}$ as a function of temperature ($T$) below about 15 K, while a slight elastic softening was observed in the transverse $C$$_{44}$ below about 1.5 K. Furthermore, CeOs$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ shows a steep decrease around a phase transition temperature of 0.9 K in both $C$$_{11}$ and$ C$$_{44}$. The elastic softening observed in $C$$_{11}$ below about 15 K cannot be explained reasonably only by the crystalline electric field effect. It is most likely to be responsible for the coupling between the elastic strain and the quasiparticle band with a small energy gap in the vicinity of Fermi level. The elastic properties and the 4$f$ ground state of Ce ions in CeRu$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ and CeOs$_{4}$Sb$_{12}$ are discussed from the viewpoint of the crystalline electric field effect and the band structure in the vicinity of Fermi level.

Abstract:
The elastic and magnetic properties of a single crystal of 327 bilayer manganese oxide $(La_{1-z} Pr_z)_{1.2} Sr_{1.8} Mn_2 O_7$ with $z$=0.6 have been investigated by ultrasonic and high-field magnetization measurements. A distinct elastic anomaly was observed at low temperatures and in high magnetic fields when crossing the phase boundary. A pronounced elastic softening as a function of magnet…

A pronounced elastic softening as a function of magnetic field ($H$) appears across the boundary of the low-temperature magnetic phase below around 40 K, accompanied by a distinct hysteresis. In the high field region, however, these elastic constants exhibit an increase with increasing a magnetic field in the high-field region. The high-field magnetization measurement characterizing the magnetic state clarified a strong connection between elastic strains and magnetic moments. The new metamagnetic transition was found in the high-field region above 40 K, accompanied with no hysteresis. The present results of elastic constants are discussed in terms of a coupling effect between elastic strains associated with sound waves and relevant magnetic moments, and relevant conduction bands. They are explained reasonably in terms of a strong coupling between elastic strains and magnetic susceptibility $chi$$_{m}$=$partial$$M$/$partial$$H$.

As-grown superconducting MgB_2 thin films have been grown on SrTiO_3(001), MgO(001), and Al_2O_3(0001) substrates by a molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) method with novel co-evaporation conditions of low deposition rate in ultra-high vacuum. The structural and physical properties of the films were studied by RHEED, XRD, electrical resistivity measurements, and SQUID magnetometer. The RHEED patterns indicate three-dimensional growth for MgB_2. The highest T_c determined by resistivity measurement was about 36K in these samples. And a clear Meissner effect below T_c was observed using magnetic susceptibility measurement. We will discuss the influence of B buffer layer on the structural and physical properties.
