The vibrational properties of 2H-TaSe$_{2-x}$S$_x$ ($0 \le x \le 2$) single crystals were probed using Raman spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations. The end members revealed two out of four symmetry-predicted Raman active modes, together with the pronounced two-phonon structure, attributable to the enhanced electron-phonon coupling. Additional peaks become observable due to crystallographic disorder for the doped samples. The evolution of the E$_{2g}^2$ mode Fano parameter reveals that the disorder has weak impact on electron-phonon coupling, which is also supported by the persistence of two-phonon structure in doped samples. As such, this research provides thorough insights into the lattice properties, the effects of crystallographic disorder on Raman spectra, and the interplay of this disorder with the electron-phonon coupling in 2H-TaSe$_{2-x}$S$_x$ compounds.

The vibrational properties of ferrimagnetic $\mathrm{Mn_3Si_{2}Te_6}$ single crystals are investigated using Raman spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations. Eighteen Raman-active modes are identified, fourteen of which are assigned according to with the trigonal symmetry. Four additional peaks, obeying the $A_{1g}$ selection rules, are attributed to the overtones. The unconventional temperature evolution of the $A_{1g}^5$ mode self-energy suggests a competition between different short-range magnetic correlations that significantly impact the spin-phonon interaction in $\mathrm{Mn_3Si_{2}Te_6}$. The research provides a comprehensive insight to the lattice properties, studies their temperature dependence and shows the arguments for existence of competing short-range magnetic phases in $\mathrm{Mn_3Si_{2}Te_6}$.

We present a solid state thermal machine based on quantum dots to generate steady-state entanglement between distant spins. Unlike previous approaches our system is controlled by experimentally feasible steady state currents manipulated by dc voltages. By analyzing the Liouvillian eigenspectrum as a function of the control parameters, we show that our device operates over a large voltage region. As an extension, the proposed device also works as an entanglement thermal machine under a temperature gradient that can even give rise to entanglement at zero voltage bias. Finally, we highlight a post-selection scheme based on currently feasible non-demolition measurement techniques that can generate perfect Bell-pairs from the steady state output of our thermal machine.

Mixed-anion mixed-cation perovskites with (FAPbI$_3$)$_{1-x}$(MAPbBr$_3$)$_x$ composition have allowed record efficiencies in photovoltaic solar cells, but their atomic-scale behaviour is not well understood yet, in part because their theoretical modelling requires consideration of complex and interrelated dynamic and disordering effects. We present here an ab initio molecular dynamics investigation of the structural, thermodynamic, and electronic properties of the (FAPbI$_3$)$_{0.875}$(MAPbBr$_3$)$_{0.125}$ perovskite. A special quasi-random structure is proposed to mimic the disorder of both the molecular cations and the halide anions, in a stoichiometry that is close to that of one of today's most efficient perovskite solar cells. We show that the rotation of the organic cations is more strongly hindered in the mixed structure in comparison with the pure compounds. Our analysis suggests that this mixed perovskite is thermodynamically stable against phase separation despite the endothermic mixing enthalpy, due to the large configurational entropy. The electronic properties are investigated by hybrid density functional calculations including spin-orbit coupling in carefully selected representative configurations extracted from the molecular dynamics. Our model, that is validated here against experimental information, provides a more sophisticated understanding of the interplay between dynamic and disordering effects in this important family of photovoltaic materials.

We present a polarization-resolved, high-resolution Raman scattering study of the three consecutive charge density wave (CDW) regimes in $1T$-TaS$_2$ single crystals, supported by \textit{ab initio} calculations. Our analysis of the spectra within the low-temperature commensurate (C-CDW) regime shows $\mathrm{P3}$ symmetry of the system, thus excluding the previously proposed triclinic stacking of the "star-of-David" structure, and promoting trigonal or hexagonal stacking instead. The spectra of the high-temperature incommensurate (IC-CDW) phase directly project the phonon density of states due to the breaking of the translational invariance, supplemented by sizeable electron-phonon coupling. Between 200 and 352\,K, our Raman spectra show contributions from both the IC-CDW and the C-CDW phase, indicating their coexistence in the so-called nearly-commensurate (NC-CDW) phase. The temperature-dependence of the symmetry-resolved Raman conductivity indicates the stepwise reduction of the density of states in the CDW phases, followed by a Mott transition within the C-CDW phase. We determine the size of the Mott gap to be $Ω_{\rm gap}\approx 170-190$ meV, and track its temperature dependence.

Integrating solid-state quantum emitters with photonic circuits is essential for realizing large-scale quantum photonic processors. Negatively charged tin-vacancy (SnV$^-$) centers in diamond have emerged as promising candidates for quantum emitters because of their excellent optical and spin properties including narrow-linewidth emission and long spin coherence times. SnV$^-$ centers need to be incorporated in optical waveguides for efficient on-chip routing of the photons they generate. However, such integration has yet to be realized. In this Letter, we demonstrate the coupling of SnV$^-$ centers to a nanophotonic waveguide. We realize this device by leveraging our recently developed shallow ion implantation and growth method for generation of high-quality SnV$^-$ centers and the advanced quasi-isotropic diamond fabrication technique. We confirm the compatibility and robustness of these techniques through successful coupling of narrow-linewidth SnV$^-$ centers (as narrow as $36\pm2$ MHz) to the diamond waveguide. Furthermore, we investigate the stability of waveguide-coupled SnV$^-$ centers under resonant excitation. Our results are an important step toward SnV$^-$-based on-chip spin-photon interfaces, single-photon nonlinearity, and photon-mediated spin interactions.
