Abstract:
Metal-insulator transition was microscopically investigated by orbital-resolved nuclear magnetic resonance (OR-NMR) spectroscopy in a single crystal of vanadium dioxide VO$_2$. Observations of the anisotropic $^{51}$V Knight shift and the nuclear quadrupole frequency allow us to evaluate orbital-dependent spin susceptibility and $d$ orbital occupations. The result is consistent with the degenerated $t_{2g}$ orbitals in a correlated metallic phase and the $d$ orbital ordering in a nonmagnetic insulating phase. The predominant orbital pointing along the chain facilitates a spin-singlet formation triggering metal-insulator transition. The asymmetry of magnetic and electric hyperfine tensors suggests the $d$ orbital reformation favored by a low-symmetry crystal field, forming a localized molecular orbital. The result highlights the cooperative electron correlation and electron-phonon coupling in Mott transition with orbital degrees of freedom.

Abstract:
We investigate the charge and lattice states in a quasi-one-dimensional organic ferroelectric material, TTF-QCl$_{4}$, under pressures of up to 35 kbar by nuclear quadrupole resonance experiments. The results reveal a global pressure-temperature phase diagram, which spans the electronic and ionic regimes of ferroelectric transitions, which have so far been studied separately, in a single material.…

We investigate the charge and lattice states in a quasi-one-dimensional organic ferroelectric material, TTF-QCl$_{4}$, under pressures of up to 35 kbar by nuclear quadrupole resonance experiments. The results reveal a global pressure-temperature phase diagram, which spans the electronic and ionic regimes of ferroelectric transitions, which have so far been studied separately, in a single material. The revealed phase diagram clearly shows that the charge-transfer instability and the lattice symmetry breaking, which coincide in the electronic ferroelectric regime at low pressures, bifurcate at a certain pressure, leading to the conventional ferroelectric regime. The present results reveal that the crossover from electronic to ionic ferroelectricity occurs through the separation of charge and lattice instabilities.

Abstract:
Magnetic properties in the quasi-one-dimensional organic salt (TMTTF)2SbF6 are investigated by 13C NMR under pressures. Antiferromagnetic phase transition at ambient pressure (AFI) is confirmed. Charge-ordering is suppressed by pressure and is not observed under 8 kbar. For 5 < P < 20 kbar, a sharp spectrum and the rapid decrease of the spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 were observed below about 4…

For 5 < P < 20 kbar, a sharp spectrum and the rapid decrease of the spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 were observed below about 4 K, attributed to a spin-gap transition. Above 20 kbar, extremely broadened spectrum and critical increase of 1/T1 were observed. This indicates that the system enters into another antiferromagnetic phase (AFII) under pressure. The slope of the antiferromagnetic phase transition temperature T_AFII, dT_AFII/dP, is positive, while T_AFI decreases with pressure. The magnetic moment is weakly incommensurate with the lattice at 30 kbar.
