Manipulation and creation of domain-wall skyrmions in chiral magnets
Abstract: We study the capture of a magnetic skyrmion into a domain wall (DW) structure in thin films of chirally magnetic type of materials like $[{\rm Pt}({\rm Co/Ni})_M/{\rm Ir}_N]$ and find that in the respective ground states of the DW and the skyrmion, they repel each other. However, rotating the DW's phase away from the stable phase using local external magnets may cause the successful capture and he… ▽ More

Magnetic Skyrmions: from lumps to supercompactons
Abstract: The magnetic Skyrmion is described by one control parameter and one length scale. We study the two extreme limits of the control parameter - infinitely large and vanishing - and find that the magnetic Skyrmion becomes a "restricted" magnetic Skyrmion and an O(3) sigma model lump, respectively. Depending on the potential under consideration, the restricted limit manifests differently. In the case o… ▽ More

$\mathbb{C}P^2$ Skyrmion Crystals in an SU(3) Magnet with a Generalized Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction
Abstract: We study $\mathbb{C}P^2$ Skyrmion crystals in the ferromagnetic SU(3) Heisenberg model with a generalization of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and the Zeeman term. The model possesses two different types of Skyrmion crystals with unit-Skyrmions that can be interpreted as bound states of two half-Skyrmions or four quarter-Skyrmions. Our study on $\mathbb{C}P^2$ Skyrmion crystals opens up the… ▽ More

Fractional Skyrmion molecules in a $\mathbb{C}P^{N-1}$ model
Abstract: We study fractional Skyrmions in a $\mathbb{C}P^2$ baby Skyrme model with a generalization of the easy-plane potential. By numerical methods, we find stable, metastable, and unstable solutions taking the shapes of molecules. Various solutions possess discrete symmetries, and the origin of those symmetries are traced back to congruencies of the fields in homogeneous coordinates on $\mathbb{C}P^2$.

Linked vortices as baryons in the miscible BEC-Skyrme model
Abstract: We introduce a variation of the Bose-Einstein condensate(BEC)-Skyrme model, with an altered potential for miscible BECs that gives rise to two physical vortex strings. In the ground state of each topological sector, the vortices are linked exactly $B$ times, due to a recently formulated theorem, with $B$ being the baryon number of the solution. The model also possesses metastable states, where the… ▽ More

Classical and quantum temperature fluctuations via holography
Abstract: We study local temperature fluctuations in a 2+1 dimensional CFT on the sphere, dual to a black hole in asymptotically AdS spacetime. The fluctuation spectrum is governed by the lowest-lying hydrodynamic modes of the system whose frequency and dam** rate determine whether temperature fluctuations are thermal or quantum. We calculate numerically the corresponding quasinormal frequencies and match… ▽ More

Fractional Vortices and Lumps
Abstract: We study what might be called fractional vortices, vortex configurations with the minimum winding from the viewpoint of their topological stability, but which are characterized by various notable substructures in the transverse energy distribution. The fractional vortices occur in diverse Abelian or non-Abelian generalizations of the Higgs model. The global and local features characterizing thes… ▽ More

Multi-vortices are Wall Vortices: A Numerical Proof
Abstract: We study the Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen multi-vortices. Using a numerical code we are able to solve the vortex equations with winding number up to n=25,000. We can thus check the wall vortex conjecture previously made in hep-th/0507273 and hep-th/0507286. The numerical results show a remarkable agreement with the theoretical predictions.
